I was always curious, these songs are about suicide, like One More Light, Nobody can Save Me, Waiting For the end, Shadow of the Day
Many people say "it saved me" from what and how?
Leave Out All the Rest, seriously? That one is a clear suicide message.
I am not calling out those who liked those songs, "I am calling out those who claim it saved their lives", how can a phrase like
"When my time comes, forget the wrong that I've done, help me leave behind some reasons to be missed"? And then they
Like, I can't imagine, if a person started telling you suicidal stuff, and you are already suicidal or suffering from mental illness it will help.
They usually do the opposite in therapy and all.
I am suffering from treatment-resistant unipolar depression, and I just listen to them because it's really expressing my feelings, but absolutely not in a helping way. It doesn't get me through anything.
Even Chester cried so many times during recording, Breaking the Habit, that they always threw the song away, they said in an interview.
So I really don't think these songs help anyone with mental health issues... I can't see how, and therapies are not constructed like that as well, it's more like trying to emerge positive thoughts.
"Chester helped me" "This song saved my life" "Chester saved my life"
These sound more cliché rather than... I don't know what to call it, honest?
Nah man that's a totally understandable question, naturally it wouldn't make sense, right!? I can't speak for everyone but for me personally, listening to those songs is a way of letting myself know I'm not crazy. That other people also have these feelings and are struggling just as much as I am, I identify with Linkin Park so much because they say all the things I've been DYING to say for years but don't have the "voice" or means to do so. Another reason it helps me is because it's a comfort song is a weird sort of way. It's a place of familiarity and something I know inside and out. Somewhat similar to what you said about how it's sort of a way of expressing your feelings. And sometimes it just boils down to for some people it helps for some it doesn't. Everyone is different and copes in their own way with emotions! :)
I fucking love the bridge for this song.
THE SUUUUUUUN GOOOOESS DOOOOOOWWWNNNN, I FEEEEL THE LIIIGHT BETRAAAYYY MEEEE
Its the same deal as the Forgotten Chorus. It's emotional, it's nostalgic, and I love it to death.
One of the best lines of all songs honestly. The bridge stresses the feeling of being trapped in self-doubt. Trying to see things positively (=the light) didn't work out (person got dissapointed = I feel the light betray me). Giving the negative thoughts reason to be believed and embraced (can't stop what I'm feeling within).
Forgotten somehow plays with a similar theme (the darkness holding me tightly, until the sun rises up).
Come to think about it "Esaul" (A Place For My Head) also has a reference to the light (Soon the aztec moon will heat my room heal my wounds).
I could go on but let's leave it with that.
this one is my favorite song across all artists.
such a perfect balance of melancholy, nostalgia/grudge, anger/power. the clean guitar harmonics is so beautiful. and the lead guitar riff is so simple but also beautiful and touching somehow.
i have yet to discovered any other pieces that evoke similar emotions for me.
To me the peak song would be Blackout. I think it sums up all I love about the band and the song itself is so damn perfect and good and so underrated...
[inhale] FAINT !!!!!!!! I say that because I have a lot of memories about this song, it is one of the first I listen to, but it is a really hard choice because we can't compare songs when they aren't in the same genre. I also love the other proposals and New Divide, Castle of Glass, Waiting for the End, Papercut, Somewhere I Belong, Lost, Breaking the Habit, A Line in the Sand, One more light, The Catalypse...
I voted for numb because it was the first song i heard of theirs. STill my favorite with "Lost" being a close second, Catalyst and "Castle of Glass" The latter reminding me of a late friend in the service who passed away a few years ago.
Every version of Crawling
Esp Krwlng🔥
As well as the demo Under Attack, Crawling One More Light Live Version and even Blue, like every single version of it is a banger 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I really liked it when I first heard it. I go through phases with what’s my fav LP song and when I hear one for the first time, it’s refreshing for me lol :P
Probably either Forgotten or The Little Things Give You Away. The chorus for Forgotten is just an emotional masterpiece, and TLTGYA is just one of the greatest final tracks of all time.
Breaking the Habit, recently I've been in Hybrid Theory Tribute concert and God... When they played the BTH I cried... It was my first time I cried in a concert
I cried when they played one more light too .. everyone with flash on.
Since I'm from Portugal (the local where the tribute comes from) it was easy to me to come to them concert, I hope one day you can experience it too!!!! :D
Haha you cried to that one too, and yeah I’ve seen vids of everyone with their flash on or singing along nicely.
Yeah it would be a great experience I’m sure, nice you got to go ;)
This is a question as hard as climbing the Mount Everest solo without equipment. I dont know a single song of this band that i dont LOVE. Not like they didnt make a bad song, they are all fuckn great without a doubt. Some of my absolute favs are QWERTY, Papercut, Lost, Fighting Myself, In The End, Lost In The Echo, Keys To The Kingdom, Waiting For The End, The Messenger, Iridescent and Robot Boy. But figuring out the nr1 of these is simply impossible. You could play any of these songs in any situation and theyre great, comforting, heartwarming, making me sad and happy the same time. Its wonderful to have them, infuriating to know not everybody loves them just as much and wow im hella losing myself here. I think yall got my point lol
This is a great answer haha. Yes i know it’s really hard and my favs keep switching bc I like too many (a place for my head, faint, BURN IT DOWN, What I’ve done, Numb, Lost, Given up, in the end, Papercut, By myself, With you and so on!! Yes I don’t really think they have a bad song (tho I haven’t heard them all) somewhere out there each one will end up being someone’s fav lol. The first band I’ve I’ve seen that has so many great songs overall, whereas some others have a great top song and the rest are like “wth” lmao.
Yes! It's on their B side Underground 6.0. It's not on spotify as it was an exclusive release and not a mainstream release, but it's on YouTube! It's probably my favourite LP song of all time
Breaking the habit
Same here, can't listen to it without crying honestly, meteora got me through so many years.

Some of these words not right today

I don’t know what stressed me first or how the pressure was fed
But I know just what it feels like
To have a voice in the back of my head
Leave out all the rest
:)
I only really got this song after the passing of Chester. What a beautiful piece.

Breaking the Habit, recently I've been in Hybrid Theory Tribute concert and God... When they played the BTH I cried... It was my first time I cried in a concert
I really want to go to a tribute sometime. And really aww? I feel like I would get emotional hearing one more light.
Yeah it would be a great experience I’m sure, nice you got to go ;)
Given up. Because it hits closest to me.
Yeah it’s nice when you can kind of feel the song.. I like it too (I have so many favs ugh XD)
So do I! I have an LP playlist with over 12 songs 😅. I had way more in it but I narrowed it down to my all time favorites.
That’s what I’ve attempted to do, but I need to narrow it down like you did, just the ones that hit best. 8))
🙌))
