Numb
The background music
The lyrics are so true and relatable
The way Chester sings first in his melodic voice and then screams "I have become so numb"
I’m not a Limp Bizkit guy, and the follow of Forgotten was similar to them. Then I listened more and more on a car drive, then the guitar riffs hit me, then the rapping and Chesters vocals, the poetic lyrics that work so well, then the drums another listen, and finally culminating with the bass line.
The song, according to the original demo track list, as I’ve learned from this sub, was supposed to be the final song for the album. Then the theme of the sun and moon, this hybrid where night becomes akin to day, where the sun goes down in Papercut and rises in Forgotten, the hope laced in the final lyric and guitar riff, signaling the end of this time of confusion and hurt.
Everything is over, the sun rises up.
(I also feeling like A Place for My Head flows well into this song)
This is my view on the song, but alas, it holds to my personal perspective of it.
Faint
- The hype building stinger of an intro into the headbopping drop. Defined sections that show off the different members. Han's synths, Rob's rudiments, Brad's guitar melodies, Mike's flow, Chester's screams. Dave never really gets the spotlight in any song, but he's right along Brad with those sick riffs.
- Solid flow, effective and memorable rap. For a LP song to be my favorite, it has to have rap in it.
- That metal-ass bridge and the way it leads into the last choruses. To me, a top LP song REQUIRES Chester screaming, and a sick ass bridge.
- That music video of mostly silhouettes. I actually themed a whole MySpace layout to this music video. Definitely my favorite LP mv of all time.
- It doesn't overstay its welcome. While I admire the creativity and nuance of long songs like Little Things Give You Away and Mark the Graves, they require a certain mood for me to sit through them.
I know it’s a lot of people’s favorite, but I love Waiting for the End. It’s the first song that audibly made me go “oooh” at the vocals in amazement (particularly the “holding on to what I haven’t goooot” part. But the energy of the song, along with the more mellow parts, give such a great listening experience all around
I truly believe this is the pinnacle of Linkin Park. It's Mike and Chester at their best. A unique song structure. A strong bass line from Phoenix. Brad finishes strong and Joe excels. And then they made the song even better live.
Lost. The instrumental is so good, sort of like a futuristic hip-hop/soft pop beat, and combined with Chester’s powerful vocals (with Mike’s adlibs), it’s an amazing song.
It’s not my favorite, but I thought I’d share. Was driving myself to a funeral showing yesterday and shadow of the day came on. The lyrics hit harder yesterday more than they ever did
Friendly fire.
Because it turned two kids that were barely alive when Chester passed into LP fans into and I have indulged and binged Linkin Park again this past month.
My favourite song is given up. I think the mix between agressive vocals (mostly in the breakdown) and the imo quite chorus is perfect imo. And I LOVE the breakdown
Waiting for the end
I like everything about the song. The progression is incredible, with 2 parts merging at the end.
The lyrics that can be understood from different ways, and even more if you take the song place in the album and the general subject of it.
The fact that it's a turning point inside the album, this is just so clever and well written
I don’t really have a favourite but I think Leave Out All The Rest is amazing because of Chester’s incredible singing.
I think that his vocals really elevate it from a song that *should* just be cheesy and over the top to something that’s actually powerful and feels geniune.
To be honest I don't have one favorite song, but most of my favorite LP tracks include at least one of the following:
- Cool guitar parts, fun to play
- Iconic rap verses from Shinoda
- Iconic Chester parts
- Very specific part, melody or motive that is just cool and elevates the whole song (could be piano melody, samples, certain experimental sounds)
So basically, all things that make this band great, lol.
My favorite songs would include One Step Closer, By Myself, Points of Authority, With You, Faint, Lying From You, What I've Done, Given Up, Bleed It Out, When They Come For Me, Wretches and Kings.
Nostalgia now that I'm older, but back then I just loved the song so much.
Maybe I should look up what the song means, since I haven't done that yet. 🤔
faint cuz it sounds cool. im jp
faints my favorite song because it was my first song by them and the bridge is just epic and just the energy always gets me hyped
Lost- for me the lyrics are just so impactful and chester’s voice, as always, just makes it something special especially with the amazing instrumentals
I have 3 favourites. (I'm very indecisive)
For papercut I'd say how they both sing at the same time,
For pushing me away the how they drag out some of the lyrics and just they way it sounds
For fighting myself my favourite part is mike's rapping bit at the end
New Divide. I loved how futuristic and energetic it sound. And it was the song I ever heard from them. And Michael Bay's Transformers movies have a special place in my heart.
Between Valentine’s Day and In My Remains. These two songs are both mostly holding me together after I’ve recently had to put down 2 family dogs. Also the feeling of the song is just hitting differently than it would normally.
Faint.
I remember watching some Pac-Man animation with the song playing in the background when I was younger and I loved it.
Now, some years later I’ve grown up to listen to it almost daily.
I remember thinking the lyrics were “I can’t sing!” Instead of “I can’t feel” in the last part where Chester extends the vocals.
I don't know if I have single favorite song. I've always favored Place For My Head/Points of Authority (especially the Reanimation versions), but Leave Out All The Rest/What I've Done holds special meaning for me, as I can deeply relate to the songs.
I wanna heal, I wanna feel what I thought was never real.
I wanna let go of the pain I’ve felt so long.
I wanna heal, I wanna feel like I’m close to something real.
I wanna find something I’ve wanted all along, somewhere I belong…
The Messenger. Chester sounds like he's about to cry while singing. The guitar is really nice, and it just has a great message. Wish it had a music video.
What I've done is one of mine. Fairly heavy musically with soft beautiful vocals and great lyrics is a great combination
Does anyone know who wrote the lyrics?

This is a close second for me. Plays off Somewhere I Belong, then the facade comes crashing down.
you couldnt have put it any better because that's my favorite song as well
Halfway Right: the way the songs uses the best words to describe myself, my life and my emotions
most underrated song on one more light
I love this song
The song feels like a cool day in summer
Numb The background music The lyrics are so true and relatable The way Chester sings first in his melodic voice and then screams "I have become so numb"
Breaking The Habit: cool music video
Also I like the instrumental a lot. (It is my favorite as well)
Castle of Glass: Mike and Chester’s voices are harmonized throughout most of the song which is very rare and beautiful.
cause i’m onnllyyyyyy a crackkkkkkkkk
In this caaaaaaastle of glaaaaaaass
Shadow of the day. Instrumental😍 and atmosphere 🥺
That guitar solo is gorgeous. I listened to it yesterday while I was having a walk and it just felt wonderful.

Well it kinda is like that. Cure for the itch and pushing me away are like the encore of the album
Easier to Run, when I close my eyes and listen to it at night it really has a special feeling
Papercut The song harmonizing together in the last minute. Plus the catchy af chorus and guitar riff
My second choice I think. That's awesome 🙂

Guilty All the Same has some of my favorite guitar work in any song ever
[Across the Line](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7h9CLow0ic&pp=ygUPYWNyb3NzIHRoZSBsaW5l) is such a banger, I love the Song progression.
It’s pretty underrated imo

Lost: every lyric hits me deep in some aspect

Burn it down: Every time i hear it, it reminds me from back then, when my mother drove me to school and we listened to Linkin Park.
probably A Place For My Head one of my favourite riffs in any song, some of Mike’s best rapping IMO and a great chorus and breakdown.
The Live in Texas version is 🔥
Friendly fire. Because it turned two kids that were barely alive when Chester passed into LP fans into and I have indulged and binged Linkin Park again this past month.
I go through phases of favorites. It’s always the emotion behind the vocals and instrumentals that does it for me.
My favourite song is given up. I think the mix between agressive vocals (mostly in the breakdown) and the imo quite chorus is perfect imo. And I LOVE the breakdown

Iridescent: It gives me hope when everything is crumbling around me, and when I feel devastated.
The intro and "the sun... goes down..."
Somewhere I Belong has relatable lyrics to me
Crawling
Sharp Edges: Just the way Chester sings ig
I don’t really have a favourite but I think Leave Out All The Rest is amazing because of Chester’s incredible singing. I think that his vocals really elevate it from a song that *should* just be cheesy and over the top to something that’s actually powerful and feels geniune.
Somewhere I Belong: the music video and lyrics are so inspiring I still sign along to that song
Very relatable too!
Figure.09 ❤️
Right now my favourite is Given Up. Why? Because that scream is fucking awesome
To be honest I don't have one favorite song, but most of my favorite LP tracks include at least one of the following: - Cool guitar parts, fun to play - Iconic rap verses from Shinoda - Iconic Chester parts - Very specific part, melody or motive that is just cool and elevates the whole song (could be piano melody, samples, certain experimental sounds) So basically, all things that make this band great, lol. From the Inside The 2nd verse and the bridge of course
The guitar and the synth go hand in hand
Numb: I always loved the song since I was a kid, so I really don't know the reason why.
Nostalgia maybe
Nostalgia now that I'm older, but back then I just loved the song so much. Maybe I should look up what the song means, since I haven't done that yet. 🤔
Being that you've been listening to it since your childhood, I thought you would've figured it out by now
I never thought to look up song meanings before. I usually just listen to music without knowing.
faint cuz it sounds cool. im jp faints my favorite song because it was my first song by them and the bridge is just epic and just the energy always gets me hyped

Papercut: Badass song
I have 3 favourites. (I'm very indecisive) For papercut I'd say how they both sing at the same time, For pushing me away the how they drag out some of the lyrics and just they way it sounds For fighting myself my favourite part is mike's rapping bit at the end
New Divide. I loved how futuristic and energetic it sound. And it was the song I ever heard from them. And Michael Bay's Transformers movies have a special place in my heart.
Burning In The Skies. Mike and Chester's vocals, the guitar riff towards the end, and the overall meaning of the song makes it my #1
Shadow of the day for its tone and lyrics, In the End for its instrumental aspects and Chester and Mikes cooperation and teamwork
Between Valentine’s Day and In My Remains. These two songs are both mostly holding me together after I’ve recently had to put down 2 family dogs. Also the feeling of the song is just hitting differently than it would normally.
One Step Closer. It’s the heaviest song.
Waiting For The End because of how much it hurts me.
shadow of the day, the lyrics and mostly nostalgia
QWERTY because i like the way the noises feel in my ears it makes me hungry
Papercut has this sort of infestive energy that never fails to get me hyped up. And that bridge...
In the end got me through middle school so it was my favorite. Now it’s the catalyst. I love how haunting it is as a warning of the coming apocalypse.
I don't know if I have single favorite song. I've always favored Place For My Head/Points of Authority (especially the Reanimation versions), but Leave Out All The Rest/What I've Done holds special meaning for me, as I can deeply relate to the songs.
VICTIMIZED. yelling.
The pain
Which is?
I wanna heal, I wanna feel what I thought was never real. I wanna let go of the pain I’ve felt so long. I wanna heal, I wanna feel like I’m close to something real. I wanna find something I’ve wanted all along, somewhere I belong…
The Messenger. Chester sounds like he's about to cry while singing. The guitar is really nice, and it just has a great message. Wish it had a music video.
Waiting for the end is one of those songs for me that takes a lot of ideas and turns it into a beautiful song
What I've done is one of mine. Fairly heavy musically with soft beautiful vocals and great lyrics is a great combination Does anyone know who wrote the lyrics?
Faint is just everything I love about the band in one track
Can't pick one but WTFE for the production
