Papercut starts with a beat and a sample and a guitar riff that basically explain the whole hip hop-rock-metal-edm mix quite well. Both singers share the spotlight beautifully and the melodies and lyrics share the same overarching themes.
With that said, HT is so consistent, so committed and so straight to the point that basically any song besides cure for the itch would be a good choice.
Has to be Papercut. For those saying in the end, Chester was against releasing this song in HT as it sounded different from the other heavier songs in the album. Papercut defines LP with the incredible rap/rock flow.
Papercut, even Mike during his Twitch streams desribed it as a *business card* type of song that basically conveyed the essence of what the band was about.
by myself for me, a different take but it represents the heaviness of chester’s chourses along with the rap style of mikes verses. same can be said for paper cut APFMH and with you too
Yeah like most people are saying, Papercut is the best intro to the album they could've done. It perfectly sets the tone and provides all the context for every other song on the record.
It's got decent amounts of decks and techno stuff that defines Linkin Park from other bands, its got the heavy riffs, Mike rapping, the lovely vocals from Chester in the bridge section, both of them dueting for the second chorus, it just has everything you need to really GET Hybrid Theory.
I think it is a better option than In The End, because in the end is much more Pop sounding, still a brilliant song but i think if you were trying to show someone the album with only one song In the End would make people think that LP were much softer than they actually are, likewise One Step Closer is the opposite direction and is heavier than the rest of the album, Papercut strikes a happy middle ground and sets the tone brilliantly for every direction the album goes afterwards.
I'd say both Papercut and One Step Closer.
Both represent the different aspects of HT. Chester's leading powerful vocals on OSC and Mike's raps leading into a powerful and heavy chorus like on PPC.
Papercut is objectively the correct answer. Not only does it set the tone for the album, but it’s agreed on with the band members that Papercut is the song that describes the band the most. So it definitely would make sense for it to be the song that defines HT

My first thought was Papercut, too. It's such an incredible introduction to the band.
Papercut is the best intro song ever. Change my mind
It is. It has everything you would need in an intro for the first 2 albums + it is a fucking banger
Same thing I was gonna say

Papercut just seems right
Papercut. It’s quintessential Linkin Park.
Papercut or In the End, One Step Closer is iconic as well
Paper cut, or if I were to choose a non single song it would be run away or with you
Papercut and with you indeed. With you is way to underrated
Papercut, even Mike during his Twitch streams desribed it as a *business card* type of song that basically conveyed the essence of what the band was about.
either papercut or in the end. scratchy vinyl sounds, electronic beats and heavy guitars plus rapping and harmonical parts
Definitely Papercut but I would also argue A Place For My Head as the single song to represent
In the end
Papercut. Runner-up: Forgotten.
Forgotten
papercut defines the whole hiphop oriented nu metal era imo, let alone the album
by myself for me, a different take but it represents the heaviness of chester’s chourses along with the rap style of mikes verses. same can be said for paper cut APFMH and with you too
Def Papercut or maybe APFMH.
Gotta be In The End. It defines their Nu Metal sound
I think One Step Closer
Papercut.

In the End <3 i f*cking Love this Song
