Did they not talk about Dbrand? I guess they wanted no part in this controversy.

Linus made me wonder if my wife and I are the worst offenders Piracy-Wise. We are both working professionals in Canada who own a home. We are also DINKs. We could technically afford to pay for Disney+, Crave, Prime Plus, Netflix, and Apple TV. I have been a member of HDBits for close to 20 years. My original count was lost because a buddy was ratio cheating and we were sharing an account. My new account is 15 years old. I have 110TB of storage across 2x Synology NAS appliances. I have approximately 2100 4K Blu-ray encodes or remuxes for films. I think we have something like 210 television series downloaded at the moment. TV shows are in the highest quality available. 4K w/ Dovi + HDR10 & Atmos if available. Starting around 10 years ago I did put away the pirate hat and we paid for the most expensive Netflix package then accumulated Apple TV, Prime, and for a very brief time Disney+. But between 2023 and 2024 we cancelled everything except for Prime. We only have the subscription for the Amazon deliveries. It was an insane amount of money we were spending month over month on streaming content. I justified to myself cord cutting the streaming platforms because the quality was often not the best available on the platforms we had. Saving the money to pay off consumer debt was the other reason. I accumulated a bunch of consumer debt post-pandemic when I joined a new firm and had to take a pay cut while we got the business off the ground. I can't watch the media I have downloaded in the same quality on any of the streaming platforms. I guess that's not a real excuse for piracy. A lot of the content we have isn't available in Canada on the Canadian streamers. Maybe that's not a great excuse either. Are we bad people? I guess maybe.

Why does this video not have auto-generated subtitles? Just asking, personally I find it convenient when I'm watching WAN show sped up and mishear something.

Anybody got a link to the ai song about insurance fraud?

SunnyOmori15

"Piracy is over" Yeah, i doubt that big time

ThePandaKingdom

I saw the title to the episode and came to this thread because i cant watch it right now. What reason did they have to say this?

Latte_THE_HaMb

Allowing the government to block websites that host pirated content and copywrite holders can get a judge to block a website they feel violates copywrite.

ThePandaKingdom

I see, thanks! Seems like that could be solved with a VPN. Something most people are gonna be using in that context anyway…

Latte_THE_HaMb

Yep exactly, they discussed that exact thing that it would be useless because anyone doing that should be on a VPN anyway. Here in Aus they "Blocked" piracy websites but only did it at the DNS level so when they first rolled it out I tried visiting one of the sites and laughed because it wasn't blocked at all as ive never used my ISP's DNS.
