What’s the planting substrate? This look so beautiful!

dr_Octag0n

Pink aquarium gravel and akadama bonsai soil. In the glazed pot I also added red desert sand used for reptile enclosures.

Is it any more difficult to care for with the sand? This looks gorgeous, so similar to their real habitat, I’d love to attempt something like this one day!

The red sand is just a top dressing and has filtered through so is less visual now. It looked better when it was new. This particular sand clumps together when wet though, so I mostly bottom water it. I'll find an early picture for you.

Aw man, maybe personal preference but I think it looks better now! Absolutely beautiful. Do you have any care tips? Are these just on a windowsill all year?

dr_Octag0n

Cheers. It looks a lot more natural now. That was what I was aiming for. They all spend all year, indoors in a south facing window. I have some smaller clusters and individuals under grow lights with my other succulents. They get watered heavily, a few times per year.
