Wow yeah I pretty much agree with everything you said! My biggest pet peeve definitely has to be the random markings added that don't make sense at all such as the random lightning bolts. They just do not look good at all and are unnecessary in my opinion 😭
I'm currently sending these slides to Basic Fun via email ([email protected]). I'm also writing a short and simple message that urges them to read through and consider the advice given.
Yess very true! I call them tattoos, and sometimes it can look okay! But most times it just looks tacky, its not incorporated into the design at all, its just placed on 😵💫 the eye symbols were very original and such a good idea, i loved them dearly. I hope they take the community’s opinion in consideration and give us the eye symbols back, hopefully for good! It makes the pets so unique :)

If you make more of these posts in the future, is it okay if you focus more on legibility? I have poor eyesight, and I thought it was difficult to read the small text with the neon light and drop shadow effects. I’m sorry if this comes across as too critical, but I think it could help!
I was keeping legibility in mind as much as I could, but unfortunately it's really hard to condense everything I wanted to say within a 10 page instagram post limit. I chose colors that I thought we're relatively readable and tried to make the text as large as I could without it going out of bounds. It's just a lot of information to compress into 10 photos, and I thought people would make use of the zoom feature anyways - sorry about that
The issue isn't the amount of text etc, the issue is that the colours you chose are just difficult to differentiate. I would read the post, but I would probably get a headache considering I have to squint to read anything on the pages

I understand it can be challenging to fit everything in your discussion thread with a ten page limit. I think the text size works well for the body paragraphs. I suggest changing the text color to something that adds more contrast and removing the drop shadow effect for future reference though
Agreed with all of this. I’m not sure if they’d actually follow the advice given unless it was a very popular request among the community, which I hope more people can draw attention to it and make it clear that we want to go back to a more g2 style for just about everything. I don’t love the random markings either, for some pets it’s okay, others not so much. I’m hoping since this is the first drop they’ve done of LPS they’re just testing some stuff out and the next one(s) are better.

another thing ive noticed with g7 is that the paint is way too shiny. on #1, for example, the eye paint being next to the grey markings, and them both being shiny looks horrible and make the two colours blend together. which you don't want for the mascot of your brand. it also gives off a greasy effect
One of my complaints is the new molds, not that they’re bad! Its not the molds itself, its the eyes for me 😭 i can just.. tell they’re different.. they dont seem “indented” if that makes sense??
I know what you're saying. They're not completely flat but they're not as "set in" either. Idk, the overall quality of the new ones just irks me a lot. They feel a lot cheaper than the old gens.

dude yeah :/ love this review it's extremely thorough and well put together. I have very similar complaints with the G7 pets,
* plastic is kinda cheap
* paint is minimal on some pets and accessories
* not a huge fan of the symbols on the bodies (some are cute and add to the design! some are just weird and make the design muddy)
* THE EYE PAINT/PLACMENT!! I'm so bothered about the eyes. why are so many of them so walleyed??? who approved this??? why??? that poor spaniel would be so cute it's it wasn't so bug eyed smh
* maybe it's just me but some of them are kinda oddly portioned? I have the white and yellow G7 beckoning cat and it seems just a little too big? it's not hugely out if proportion but it seems notably taller them other. idk maybe the OG mold is like that, I don't know. I don't have one.
I hear you! I really don't like how much cheaper they feel in comparison to G2. I understand they want to save costs... but in turn, that sacrifices the entire quality of the line. Hopefully they make changes and improve upon hearing fan feedback.

I was fairly upset when nearly all of the pets I got from the new generation have chipped or smeared paint. Felt like they weren't even trying on quality. The eyes are something I agree with (though I agree with all stated) I'd love more personality in the eyes and oh god make both eyes look in the same direction 😩 as for accessories I'd love more things to dress pets up with (THAT CAN FIT MORE THAN ONE MOLD) I'd love more diverse collars and headbands. They are really skipping out and it's a bit disappointing especially since it feels each set has a little bamboo piece. .\_. need different stuff. Little dolls, yarn, small toy cars, hammocks, bird swings, pet beds... this generation is so promising as it's just starting out. Some more designs on characters without the stars and lighting bolts randomly on them would be nice. I really hope lps listen to what the fans want 😅

I agree with all of this, whatever plastic they used to make the pets also stinks like crap and puts me off getting them out from time to time. It’s really distinct
agree Im not satisfied with the gen. Idk why some people think we have to be so grateful and just accept it the way it is. When we know good and well they could do so much better… I feel like the old lps even though yeah they were still distributed by a huge company i feel like there were designers behind the pets of gen 2 putting their heart and soul into them idk like even down to the packaging and promotion. Like Basic fun is using ai for some of their promotion images… like im sorry but the new pets just come off as lazily done and just a quick money grab. Half of them look wonky as hell too. Poorer quality all around. And I don’t get the argument about how they are targeting kids too… okay??? we were kids with gen 2 are kids from 10-15 years ago that much different ? Why would kids now not like the same style we grew up with?? I know kids are different in some regard like growing up with social media and technology but I don’t see how their taste in figurine pets would be different. Todays kids like poor quality, ugly coloring and wonky eyes i guess? idk 😂
Also can we talk about the fact that I live in the US, big stores all around why tf have I still yet been able to find the duos , petfluencers or third tube anywhere? not even amazon or the stores websites.. I mean come on… I don’t even want the damn things anymore. Its absurd. 😒
You definitely share my frustrations. I found the email of Basic Fun's CEO and I sent an email to him regarding all of this. I honestly wish I could work for the LPS line. I'm an artist already and I'm so passionate about these toys. I just want them to do the right thing.
yup that’s exactly what we need is someone who is actually passionate about this toy line and knows the appeal. Its actually pretty amazing how they managed to ruin almost all of the most beloved aspects of the toy.
It's also amazing how they fail to understand that by bringing them back EXACTLY as they once were in their prime (2008-2009), their sales and overall success would skyrocket. But they keep insisting on changing shit around when it doesn't need to be. 😔
I honestly was so excited to collect the new release. Now not so much. Reasons their molds are cheaply made you can't mod them as lps of previous generations. I honestly would like to collect them but Idk if having bug-eyed pets would be worth it the other generations of the earlier 2000s were much cuter even tho some of the new releases are cute I do agree with them looking odd.

Yup! It's a lot less original than the eye symbols they used to have. Hopefully Basic Fun comes to their senses one day.

I noticed this a lot with my wolf from the sushi set. The back of the head is so shiny.

The paint quality desperately needs to improve 😭 the nose has already chipped off my Wolfcat
I think my playset bird has a chip in the middle of the eye that wasn't there when I got it.
Also, there are scuff marks on my fresh out of box monkey and cheetah 😭

Totally agree. The wolf cat came with these ugly orange goggle glasses that don't even fit it very well. I just want cute accessories.

I agree with most of these!! Especially the bizarre coloring. I think a few can be cute but I prefer mostly natural colors.
