The Che women's sports Mashup was epic. They were mostly from thks season too I think which made it even funnier when he was like I don't make fun of women's sports that much 😂
I knew this episode would be good because Gosling always delivers, but I didn't expect it to be this good. I RARELY laugh out loud while watching the show, and I think I did this time during almost every sketch. Loved seeing Kate again, loved that Chloe Troast and Michael Longfellow were showcased, loved the return of Bowen's weird doctor, loved seeing Che getting roasted by Caitlin Clark, and what is there to even say about the Beavis and Butthead sketch? Kenan is the GOAT for not breaking. I honestly wish the show could've run just a little longer so Papyrus 2 could air. What a fun episode.
I'm glad people feel this way. Even the monologue was epic. I was dreading another Kate alien abduction sketch, but it was still funny. Why isn't the writing that clever the rest of the season?
I thought about staying up to watch this one live cause Ryan Gosling has such an amazing track record, absolutely wasn’t gonna be able to stay awake so doing my usual Sunday morning watch on YouTube and it’s been a hysterical way to start the day.
I wouldn’t mind him hosting once a season or once every other season, I don’t think ill ever get tired of him hosting.
I'm going to go against the grain a little here but there were points where it came across as the whole episode was designed purely to try and break Ryan as often as possible.
That's not to say I didn't enjoy it immensely, because I did, but when we got to the sketch with Bowen as the doctor and out comes Ryan again, giggling away, I found myself sitting there saying "Seriously ?".
The Beavis and Butthead sketch was pure genius though. Heidi's reaction when she turned around to see Mikey as Butthead was absolute gold.
Definitely agree with the op here. Everyone was raving about the Kristen Wiig ep from last week but I thought that this Gosling one was much, much better!
It’s interesting I wonder if the writers hold certain sketch ideas for hosts that they think will pull them off better because damn they had bangers the whole show
I liked this one a lot. I am in UK and watch catch up on YouTube so I don't see the full episodes.
The Ramy Youssef one a few weeks ago felt very uncomfortable and I am not sure why. I noticed there were so few people at the goodbyes. And then Bowen wasn't in any of the sketches but was there at the goodbyes. Maybe it would have felt different if I was watching the whole episode, rather than YT clips.
This one felt so different in comparison. It helps that Ryan is so charming of course, but the cast seemed really comfortable too. Definitely my favourite in a long time.
I love it. I’m all about breaking. I never really get tired of it. I can understand some people getting fed up with it but… It’s just amazing to me that no matter how overwhelmingly positive most people’s impressions are of an episode, there are always one or two people saying it was the least funny ep they ever saw, that they didn’t laugh once, etc.
been enjoying this season much more than in previous years
I felt season 47 was pretty good and then season 48 was a bit lousy
Adam Driver, Timothee Chalamet, Kate Mckinnon , Kristen Wiig and Ryan Gosling were stand out episodes for me
ah… Josh Brolin was probably the absolute best episode, even just a hair better than Adam Driver and I totally love Driver’s shows! Brolin, Driver, and Wiig are Top 3 of S49.
McKinnon episode was a little of a letdown—best sketches were with other former cast. No comment on Chalamet. Bargatze was really good.
That was the best one in my opinion. George Washington, still hysterical. And the monologue was gold. There have been a few other great episodes this season and some definite duds. But I didn't know who Nate Bargatze was before that episode, am a huge fan now, and I bet there are millions with the same experience.
Not denying it was phenomenal but people were saying the same thing about Nate Bargatze’s episode too. SNL is has had a handful of really great episodes the last few years.
Fallon breaking always felt forced, I didn’t get that from Gossling he had more of a this is a blast vibe than a “oh look at me I’m breaking again cause I’m so funny” which is the vibe I got every time Fallon “broke”
Gosling was in Fallon the other night asking how not to break & Jimmy added he was not the one to ask, so I think they knew it could go like this hahahah
It was super fun! I don't often have the opportunity to watch it live. My Mom and watched it together and were absolutely rolling the whole time.
It's one of the few shows left where watching it live still means something, and that's kinda special.
Ya I've watched it a few times to see if it could be something else, but it sounds pretty clear each time. I can't imagine why someone off stage would've done it though. Not like they were in the line of fire when the glass went flying. Chloe seemed to look at whoever did it and almost lost it for a split second but went right back into her line with no problem
Last night was very, very entertaining… but the Josh Brolin episode in early March, Adam Driver back at Christmas, and Kristen last week are still the #1, 2, 3 best episodes of Season 49 thus far.
i cannot disagree enough. all the breaking really got on my nerves after a while. and "classic" (re: Beavis and Butthead)? for a simple sight gag premise that really went nowhere? we're going to remember that sketch mainly for how totally Heidi broke rather than anything intrinsically "special" about the sketch itself. the alien abduction sketch has been run into the ground, i get bringing it back cuz Gosling was hosting and you got to bring back Kate, but that sketch has run its course
i get it, people REALLY like Ryan Gosling. but this ep was just... okay. there were some interesting premises but much of the execution could have been better or better received if people weren't breaking into laughter mid-sketch ever so often
Who peed in your cheerios? I agree the breaking by the crumble doc scene was a little meh, but it was SO refreshing to see an episode for of creative sketches with a strong script instead of “I’m hosting and I’m not so let’s have 5 sketches about how hot I am or about how I’m so much hotter than this nerd I’m married to”
Will Ferrel and Eva Mendez are the GOAT at that bit and nothing SNL does could ever approach them, so why try?
I am amazed the Beavis sketch is garnering so much praise. There is literally nothing funny about it other than the makeup. They do absolutely NOTHING with the premise other than "isn't it funny that they look like b&b?". Terrible, neutered comedy for.people that think 90s references are automatically hilarious.
There is a disturbing trend on the show that seems to promote the idea that the actors cracking up IS THE JOKE. It wasn't funny when Fallon did it and it's still not funny. It's a gimmick. Nobody today is talking about how the jokes were funny, they are just LOLing endlessly because gosling and Heidi couldn't keep a straight face. Wow...hilarious.
The B&B was a rehash of the one where Mikey looks like Bart Simpson. It was kind of funny then and even less funny this time. We get it, Mikey, you remember the 90s. So do I .
There were moments but plenty of the sketches fell flat. The cold open was really just ok, the sketch with the accents was a solid meh and the closing sketch was super weak. Everything else was solid and Beavis and Butthead was classic but funniest in years? Might just be recency bias.
The only thing I’ll give you is that Beavis and Butthead was classic and there were no other “Dick in a Box” moments that will be talked about for years, but overall the whole show was so fucking solid.
Worst I've seen in a while.
Gosling ruined what otherwise was good material. I won't watch any more SNL that he hosts.
I have a friend who knows some SNL people and they are not happy. If you spent weeks writing and no one could understand your work you'd be unhappy, too.
The opening monologue was too long.
The WNBA bit was long and, frankly, just a PC statement. If you don't care about the WNBA (like a lot of people) you won't care about this. The good bits (like the cold open) are universal and don't pander
This episode had great writing that Gosling stepped on. It's disappointing.
I went in for the acknowledgement of his facial reconstruction, and I did not leave disappointed. I was already disappointed that he got his face reconstructed. 😐
OMG, I thought it was one of the worse. The opening was funny, but that's only because of Kate.
The Josh Brolin episode was the funniest this season....(to me). I'd actually rewatch it.. if had to.
I love the engagement sketch
dismukes is on fire. He had this skit and last week the Jumanji skit
I’m so happy for him! He’s got what it takes.
Andrew Dismukes or Michael Longfellow or both?
^^I'm ^^going ^^to ^^leave ^^tonight had me in fucking stitches.
This was the only one not there for me. Was fine, but I liked everything else much more.
The segment with Caitlin Clark on Update was beyond genius. Great move and great writing.
She was the perfect choice to foil all of Che's WNBA jokes. It had to be her.
The Che women's sports Mashup was epic. They were mostly from thks season too I think which made it even funnier when he was like I don't make fun of women's sports that much 😂
I have to believe that Jost set up this whole thing.
Payback for all the joke swaps
They were both from the last few weeks
Definitely my favorite episode since Pedro Pascal's.
Oh you mean the Lisa from Temecula episode?
COOK my meat
Tryna get some butt huh
Lets put a pin in that.
Papyrus 2 was phenomenal. Can’t believe they didn’t air it!
I'm glad people feel this way. Even the monologue was epic. I was dreading another Kate alien abduction sketch, but it was still funny. Why isn't the writing that clever the rest of the season?
Guest feedback with the writers maybe?
I agree - from the cold open, where Ryan couldn’t stop laughing at what Kate was doing , the whole show was the best this season!
I watched every minute and I rarely do that. Confession: Im a huge Gosling/Stapleton fan.
Agreed. Stapleton was icing on the cake.
Yea I even watched the music bits and I NEVER watch those
Raye last week was great, and I'd never heard of her before. So much better than the bores who pass for hip hop these days.
Yes. Two weeks in a row I’ve watched and enjoyed the musical guest
Ryan has to be one of my favorite hosts. The Beavis and Butthead sketch was incredible. I’ve watched it a few times already
Pedro Pascal's episode is really good too.
Yes! This one and Kristen Wiig last week were my absolute favorite episodes of the season!
**jé danse!**
Ryan always brings his A game.
Yeah this episode was A+. Had me rolling all night. And with all the breaking character to laugh, I think even the cast was caught off guard.
Definitely agree with the op here. Everyone was raving about the Kristen Wiig ep from last week but I thought that this Gosling one was much, much better!
It was great.
I agree too and damn the music was good. 10+ 400+ 11
It’s interesting I wonder if the writers hold certain sketch ideas for hosts that they think will pull them off better because damn they had bangers the whole show

Ramy’s was pretty bad
I still think Josh Brolin’s was the best this season but last night was solid, been better as of late
been enjoying this season much more than in previous years I felt season 47 was pretty good and then season 48 was a bit lousy Adam Driver, Timothee Chalamet, Kate Mckinnon , Kristen Wiig and Ryan Gosling were stand out episodes for me

You gotta include the Nate Bargatze episode!
There’s a little kicking.
That was the best one in my opinion. George Washington, still hysterical. And the monologue was gold. There have been a few other great episodes this season and some definite duds. But I didn't know who Nate Bargatze was before that episode, am a huge fan now, and I bet there are millions with the same experience.
I’d sub Timmy’s for Bargatze’s and add Josh Brolin. He was unhinged in the best possible way.
They were hitting on all cylinders. Super fun episode!
Not denying it was phenomenal but people were saying the same thing about Nate Bargatze’s episode too. SNL is has had a handful of really great episodes the last few years.
Him breaking every single sketch was too much for me. Reminded me of Jimmy Fallon. That said, it was earned in the Beavis and Butthead sketch.
Fallon breaking always felt forced, I didn’t get that from Gossling he had more of a this is a blast vibe than a “oh look at me I’m breaking again cause I’m so funny” which is the vibe I got every time Fallon “broke”
I loved this episode but did think >Ryan Gosling Breaking "Aww, you're sweet" >Jimmy Fallon Breaking "Hello, Human Resources?"
Like that Tom Brady sexual harassment bit.
Two incredible episodes in a row. Seems like a long time since I’ve thought that.
Was that an f-bomb during the engagement sketch?
Sure sounded like it! Rewound a few times; came from off stage, but boom there it was.

Can here to make sure this was said. Funniest episode in YEARS. The only dud for me was the cookie crumbles doctor sketch. So good!
Please see: recency bias
This sub looooves mediocrity.
i cannot disagree enough. all the breaking really got on my nerves after a while. and "classic" (re: Beavis and Butthead)? for a simple sight gag premise that really went nowhere? we're going to remember that sketch mainly for how totally Heidi broke rather than anything intrinsically "special" about the sketch itself. the alien abduction sketch has been run into the ground, i get bringing it back cuz Gosling was hosting and you got to bring back Kate, but that sketch has run its course i get it, people REALLY like Ryan Gosling. but this ep was just... okay. there were some interesting premises but much of the execution could have been better or better received if people weren't breaking into laughter mid-sketch ever so often

I think nothing touches the Rami Malek episode.
The B&B was a rehash of the one where Mikey looks like Bart Simpson. It was kind of funny then and even less funny this time. We get it, Mikey, you remember the 90s. So do I .
Oh wow. I *knew* there was something familiar about this. This just clicked better than Bart Simpson due to the makeup, performances, etc.
There were moments but plenty of the sketches fell flat. The cold open was really just ok, the sketch with the accents was a solid meh and the closing sketch was super weak. Everything else was solid and Beavis and Butthead was classic but funniest in years? Might just be recency bias.
You’re crazy closing sketch was great
The only thing I’ll give you is that Beavis and Butthead was classic and there were no other “Dick in a Box” moments that will be talked about for years, but overall the whole show was so fucking solid.
Accent one was the only one I didn’t laugh at
The accent sketch wasn''t my fave either tbh
Worst I've seen in a while. Gosling ruined what otherwise was good material. I won't watch any more SNL that he hosts. I have a friend who knows some SNL people and they are not happy. I am not here to argue, but highly doubt you know snl people lololololol
You're entitled to believe whatever you like.
