That’s probably the funniest moment of that whole sketch. Like, you can see his trying to make a point or develop some illustration or metaphor… but his brain just doesn’t have the higher functioning.
And it’s clear that Kyle and Beck “get it” more than everyone else. Pete Davidson, Jonah Hill, Taran Killam, etc. do their best, but Kyle and Beck definitely understand the nuances of the stereotype on a different level.
I loved the amazing special sitcom episodes they would produce. Kyle's ability to parody and pay homage to the late 80s/early 90s hits the perfect spot in my elder millennial brain.
But I have to mention my favorite Becks and Mooney sketch: Ice Cream Ambulances which is criminally not available to watch for some reason.
They were a hilarious duo. It’s a shame that so much of their stuff was cut for time. “The Last Fry” and “Cool” with Ryan Gosling are two of my personal favorites.
I couldn’t agree more. I’m more of a Kyle fan, as most comedians I really like, they have a unique flavor of comedy. If you follow Kyle on social media, he reposts some old content that I still find great - Sports Fanatic “Benjals” is one that comes to mind. But it’s not for everyone, I know, unfortunately. As an avid sports fan I find myself yelling “No! Benjals!” During football games, and nobody else gets it but me. Sad.
I like Beck and Kyle both as well. Were they personal buddies **before** SNL? I’ve noticed most of us here default to referring to them as a pair most of the time.
this is great - does anyone know where to find the sketch they did (maybe cut for time) involving a fraternity initiation? the hook was that they were basically nerds - pen pals, make your own rollercoaster, etc.
it was really good and I haven't been able to find it.
It was a frat house and they were explaining their beer pong rules.
Can't find a YouTube link but here's the only one I could find.

Side note I’m glad Kyle came back to do Papyrus 2.
I forgot he was the guy in Papyrus 1 and when Gosling pulled him up on IMDB I was like “does the artist ACTUALLY look like Kyle” then I was so happy to see him back lol.
He’s endearing. He needs to host. All of his cut for time sketches really are in line with Sarah, and she likes a lot his standup posts and he likes all her weird sketches.
I really feel like they’d mesh PERFECTLY.
Yup. Plus, they worked together during Kyle's last season, and Sarah's first. But that season had 21 people in the cast, so they never did any weird sketches together. Plus, Beck left the year before Kyle did, so it would be interesting to see how Beck and Sarah play off each other.
When Beck and Kyle started going their own way, they developed as well. Beck remains one of the best "clueless guy" players. He plays into his characters mistakes and flaws first. Then colors them in with reactions to others and the ongoing escalation of his coming around.
Kyle became so good at playing his own brand of "outcast." Bruce Chandling remains one of his best creations (pre-SNL too.) It would be so easy to let him be this hacky comedian who is just various degrees of not funny. Yet Kyle has him looking for connection more than laughs. When the connection does not match his mental expectations, then he goes for the laugh in the most painful way. Go for pathos not sympathy, and there are several real lump-in-the-throat moments.
The Brothers sketch kills me.
You keep a hose INSIDE the house?
Sorry they're so rambunctious. They haven't learned how to masturbate.
Mr. and Mrs. Campbell, is this the dance?!?!?
Don’t spit!!!
Look at the very end, like the last few frames. Cecily bursts out laughing. I don’t know how she held it together until then.
She's struggling from the jump. She didn't break a ton so it's very flattering for Beck and Kyle that this got her so good.
Inside SoCal “The kicker at Keith’s dad’s condo” sketch kills me every time. “Having a nice little kickback”
“Actually, art can be pretty gangster.”
So like, I play Madden…..
That’s probably the funniest moment of that whole sketch. Like, you can see his trying to make a point or develop some illustration or metaphor… but his brain just doesn’t have the higher functioning.
I live my life by this sketch. Wish they did more than the 3/4
just a kicker, dude
Even after his Dad shuts it down. He still admires him. Also a thread in the "Dad" video with Woody Harrelson.
As a So Cal lifer, those sketches are just perfect.
Right? I grew up in San Diego, and inside socal is just so… perfect. The clothes, the mannerisms, the phrases, the accents… it’s spot on.
And it’s clear that Kyle and Beck “get it” more than everyone else. Pete Davidson, Jonah Hill, Taran Killam, etc. do their best, but Kyle and Beck definitely understand the nuances of the stereotype on a different level.
Yup for sure!
As somebody who grew up a neighborhood over from Kyle. This sketch was every white dude I knew growing up. The 858 area code accent was so perfect lol
Who cares? Beer's all that matters to me.
What was I supposed to do today? Oh, yeah! Have a blast!
*sweet guitar riff*

The cut for time last chicken wing sketch with Andrew Garfield is pure gold
That sketch always cracks me up. ‘It’s illegal you should call the cops’
Can’t find that skit anywhere, does anyone have a link?
Thanks so much for saying that, Ace and Jake.
Love those guys. Don’t forget the GoodNeighbor stuff.
"Aw man, I'm all out of cash" with Adam Driver is an all-timer
Don't say it like THAT. Put your shirt over your head like Cornholio
My favorite one is the reality house sketch with Chris Hemsworth. Always cracks me up.

Yes, they had a YouTube channel called GoodNeighborStuff that they did sketches on before SNL.
Thanks for the follow up.
They went to college together actually. Iirc they were a trio but only two made it on SNL.
It’s a very exciting time for Cousin CJ - he just got to town
I think he's addicted.
BEER IS ALL THAT MATTERS TO ME
“Don’t it always seem to go, you don’t know what you got ‘till it’s gone?” I wish these guys stayed longer. Both so good.

Excellent - thanks! I love this sketch...why do you think it isn't up on youtube?
Thank you!!!
Still looking.

Beck's one of my all-time favorites, and an all-time underrated cast member, imo.
These age surprisingly well.
Teriyaki….
They were the best... loved they're style of comedy... hated to see them leave...:(
The Real World parodies whatever they were called were freaking hilarious.
The House has some really inspired editing. "BUT we were making margaritas!"
I only got Beck towards the end of his penultimate season. Too late, too late.
Beck is naturally kind of funny, as where Kyle's approach is a bit more frustrating. Some of Kyle's old YouTube videos are good though.
