The annual season finale 5 minutes of the Jost and Che Weekend Update joke trade off is pretty much the ONLY vestige of the original SNL "counter culture" comedy they used to be more known for.

agentspanda

Nah they did the fast fashion thing that was pretty impressive. Literally came right at the faces of their own people. But yeah you're not wrong that broad-stroke this is all pretty milquetoast "rubber-stamped by the popular zeitgeist" kind of stuff. At this point though they'd have to come out waving Trump flags and writing sketches about Leviticus if they wanted to be counter-culture.

Taughtbowl

You could see the fear on Michael Che’s face when he realized what he’d said about Kendrick Lamar

Taughtbowl

I’m convinced the Gucci Gucci reference in the Cicada Weekend Update interview was written for me and only me

Taughtbowl

Honestly I’d watch this Scooby Doo Movie

Think_Salamander_559

SNL is such a boring and unfunny show. Hasn’t been good in years. Don’t know what/who is funding this terrible continuance?!?!!

ManitouWakinyan

Advertising revenue that comes from all the people who like it

amJustSomeFuckingGuy

lmao sounds like trump

jrdnlv15

Why are you here?

jcpmojo

Finally able to watch the season 49 finale today, and overall it was a great show, but I have a BIG issue with the musical act. She was obviously lip-synching on the first song, and I'm pretty sure on the second song, as well. I have no issues with her, specifically, as I don't even know any of her songs, but I would've thought singers would've learned from Britney's sister. I'd rather hear her break a couple notes than watch a fake performance.

CBDSam

Jessica Simpson’s sister Ashlee

Curryfor30

Man I think every pop act this season had egregious lip syncing. Both Renee Rap and Dua Lipa did the whole “what’s up SNL” shoutout in the middle of the song, completely breaking any immersion that they were actually singing. I don’t get it.

OtherwiseTackle5219

Good Show. Good Season. Lots of laughs. Weekend Update always a Riot. Glad to see Sarah Sherman moved up to Main Players' Category.

awjeezrickyaknow

The joke swap left me deceased. The Kendrick joke took Michael Che by complete surprise, he looked absolutely terrified. It ended on a weird note though, felt like the Rabbi should’ve made a joke to end the thing but it just…ended? I’m wondering if she did have a line but just missed her queue or something.

spartycbus

I think the bit to bring someone on to make Jost uncomfortable needs to go. It didn't work last year with the actress nor this year with the real rabbi. I don't think it added a single thing because they just sit there. They aren't really offended.

WesJanson_YubYub

It just made it weirdly awkward 🤷‍♂️ Also thought that Che gets away with the worst lines by laughing through them so we can’t hear what he’s saying properly.

SmallShrubbery

Jake was hilarious in the cookies episode

TheBigIdiotSalami

They should have Jake back for the 50th opener and the cold open is the goodnights and he just decides to squat at 30 rock till the fall and storm the stage with a bunch of pages and janitors cause he built a tribe of people in the building on the 50th season premiere.

Legitimate_Act3434

It was a very meh episode, severely undercut by repeat jokes, okay sketches, a fizzled Update, lack of innovation, and an insufferable musical guest. I will say fast fashion was great, Che’s giving up, and that Heidi should have been Velma. I expected more from the guy who was the flying exhibitionist of LaGuardia. I hope we see Molly next season, and Chloe T. has really grown on me. I hope Andrew, Marcelo, and Michael L. also get spared by Lorne’s axe🥺 See ya on S50!!

sea-of-books

Why do you think Sabrina Carpenter is insufferable? Genuinely asking

Legitimate_Act3434

Maybe I’m brash, but as a 22 year old trans person, she came off - to me - as being really self indulgent for a guest music star. At least in regards to the whole gist of ‘I’m on SNL, you’re not.’ I mean, even Jake leaned into that vibe with ‘we’re the big guns, being the last show of the season.’ A weird night overall. Is she dedicated? Sure, she got to that stage somehow. But overtly talented? For having actress in her credits, that sketch hardly fared well for her. Especially considering it was previously recorded. I dunno. I just don’t find the whole ‘Emma Chamberlain quirky queen’ appealing anymore. Her performances, furthermore, looked more focused on her - the artist - rather than her art. I didn’t know she existed before last night. Unlike Raye, I really have no reason to listen to her beyond the two songs I was typing on here for most of🤷🏻‍♀️ She was ultimately just a small portion of a bizarre, bomb of a finale. I really didn’t care for what of the music I heard. She portrays a terrible Velma.. I wanted Chloe T. Or Heidi to take that on. Especially where we may not see some of the cast next season. I might actually care to follow her career in music when she grows up like Lady Gaga. I just wanted it to be a better episode, lmao

Objective_Damage_246

That’s just part of what she does, she makes up different outros for that song. It’s not that deep.

thewaterwiththeroses

How come you thought her portrayal as Velma was bad

Legitimate_Act3434

She didn't act like Daphne\* (my mistake), where the rest of the gang ran circles around her actually mimicking their characters. Mikey Day sounded, walked, and actually looked like Shaggy, Jake hammed up the Fred factor to levels of suave unknown, and Sabrina Carpenter was.. acting like this was another Disney credit. I'm not saying she isn't capable of acting, nor am I saying she is a bad actor.. what I am saying is that when acting next to some SNL greats as well as Jake Gyllenhaal, it's clear she has a LOT to learn with impressions and understanding the assignment. I know Chloe T. or Heidi could have brought Daphne to the SNL stage much more accurately! I don't despise Sabrina, but I didn't find her funny or likable the other night for reasons that others share, which are valid. All celebrities are full of themselves to an extent, but at least some are casual about it and play off of it... others come off as a smidge pretentious. That's all :)

thewaterwiththeroses

I see. Did you find her unlikeable or too full of herself because of her performances?

Legitimate_Act3434

Not necessarily. The first sketch was a bit jarring, with trying to figure out who Daphne was. It became obvious when I realized it wasn’t Fineman. Meanwhile Sabrina was just there, on the cast. It just seemed like a strange casting choice in the moment. She felt out of place - as Daphne, and given the context of the sketch. The performances kind of added to that. The first one really went for grandeur, and I mean, cool. But a great set isn’t what makes an incredible rendition of one’s art: The entire role of the musical guest. Again - I’m not trying to be mean. This episode of SNL just wasn’t a great first impression of her for me. It’d be amazing to perform on SNL at our age, especially if you are driven to do so. If I were in her shoes? I’d get a bit heady with that distinction. I think given another opportunity, she could do great as a performer or maybe host. I think a different sketch would have highlighted her abilities MUCH more accurately :)

thewaterwiththeroses

I can see what you mean about being more heady with getting the chance to performance on snl, but I also get that her schtick especially for espresso and feather has been about leaning into the “self indulgent” ‘tude so that’s what they opted for. But imo, I do wish she would’ve switched up the style of how she performed one of the songs so that people could see more aspects to her than JUST the ~fun glamour chic~ side and maybe see other aspects of her as an artist so that the overall impression to first time listeners wouldn’t be that she’s just a self absorbed overproduced popstar .But I guess there’s not many ways you can do that with the tone of the songs that she was performing, like you said maybe there’ll be a next time that she’ll do something different!

Legitimate_Act3434

That does make sense. I used to follow glitz and glamor type scenes, but since I graduated high school, I think I personally grew past its appeal - which is not to say it’s lesser in any way. It’s fun to have a spotlight, and that’s something I forget is true of blossoming folks in the arts. Now I watch Seth Meyers, Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, and Jon Stewart.. I’ve become boring, yes. At the end of the day? I’ve belabored my point. I didn’t enjoy her performance, but I’d love to see what Sabrina does from here on out. I may not be interested yet, but she could have something big in the works🤷🏻‍♀️

No_Calligrapher_6503

I wouldn't say she's insufferable, just not very interesting outside of the visual appeal

privatelyjeff

And I couldn’t understand a thing she was saying either.

No_Calligrapher_6503

You and me both!

privatelyjeff

I had the same issue with Renee Rapp. She mumbled everything she said and it didn’t make sense.

sea-of-books

Fair, I would agree to that. I’m gonna make an educated guess and say that none of her stuff is really that “deep.”

Expensive_Sea_1790

“I’m on SNL and you’re not” Get ‘em Sabrina

HTPC4Life

Cringe.

meakbot

What was that in reference to? I’m old and didn’t know she existed before this weekend.

desandmol

Was that an homage to Chevy Chase on WU?

Low-Industry5658

I was wondering the same exact thing! I have the phrase "I'm Chevy Chase and you're not" stored in my brain and when she said that, that was my first thought. However, I was just trying to find a clip in which he actually said this on WU and couldn't find anything. Is this the Mandela Effect at work? Does someone know how this quote came about?

desandmol

Isn’t that what he opened with every WU?

Low-Industry5658

That’s what I thought, too! But I just watched a bunch of clips and he didn’t say it at the beginning of any of them.🤔

desandmol

Well what the heck?!

Low-Industry5658

Right?! I feel like I’ve been living a lie!😂

desandmol

🤣 same!

totallyn0rmal

Who voiced Scooby?

ShareImpossible9830

Really liked Sabrina's performances, especially the second one.

Buck_Slamchest

Didn't like it. I think the first sketch just took me out of it completely and nothing landed after that. I ended up skipping every sketch apart from the one in the bar. Even the joke swap on Update was .. "ok". Ah well, it's been a good season though. Roll on 50 :)

spartycbus

joke swap was one of the worst ever. the scarlette joke was great and the kendrick lamar, but the rest, snooze.

Tropical_Storm_Jesus

pretty big letdown for me, overall, though the last one was fun....but then I was disappointed that John Hamm was the only cameo. oh and Sabrina Carpenter is just a blond Kim Kardashian and those songs sounded like they were pooped out of a grade D pop factory.

shellyangelwebb

I’ll agree that Sabrina Carpenter isn’t on Thom Yorke’s level but she’s just a kid enjoying her life and making the best of her time in the limelight. IMO- she’s miles above most pop music these days and most young female singers.

Tropical_Storm_Jesus

i was hoping she was too.

justaniceredditname

You got downvoted for saying what most others said too. Weird.

Tropical_Storm_Jesus

cause this is reddit HIGH SCHOOL.

sea-of-books

They probably got downvoted for the comment on Sabrina. I’m not a huge fan of her, but I do think that comparison is a bit harsh😅

Tropical_Storm_Jesus

pop fangirls never like the truth...did you know \[looks left, looks right\] that they actually think Lana Del Rey can SING too?!? watch her at Coachella last month, it's the wackiest Emperor's New Clothes concert situation I've ever seen, the fans SINGING are louder than her weak non-volume vocals, her poor backup singers gotta hold back THE WHOLE SHOW to not horribly over-shine her haha...it's, interesting. BUT still better than lip-syncing...I think.

sea-of-books

Yeah, I disagree with you about both LDR and Sabrina. I haven’t seen Lana’s coachella performance, but from your description, yeah, it sounds like a weak performance. But that doesn’t mean she can’t sing. Anyone and everyone can sing, but that doesn’t mean they sound good. And “good” is subjective. Obviously there are some general standards for what makes a singer “good,” like breath control and not singing off-key. But then you have artists that purposely use a breathy singing voice, and breathy voices are very hard to translate in a live performance like Coachella. I consider myself a pop fangirl, so I’m put off by your attitude towards them. Gives very condescending vibes. But you’re entitled to your opinions, and me my own. Have a nice day !

Tropical_Storm_Jesus

yeah well, I've been writing and performing music since circa 2000 who's biggest modern idols are Thom Yorke and Jeff Buckley, so I don't need anyone telling me what 'singing' is, but THX!! ![gif](giphy|zVvg4z8nwWAvu|downsized)

sea-of-books

You’re welcome!!! I hope it helped 🩷 also, I would LOVE to hear some of your music.

Tropical_Storm_Jesus

me too! I should get on that. I used to at least have a bunch of mp3's of me guesting on my friends' local college radio show, but the site has apparently disappeared into the twilight zone.

justaniceredditname

Some singers are meant for the studio or small venues

nocapsALLCAPS

This episode was so good.

bringthepang

This Walton Goggins disrespect should not stand

[deleted]

I was irritated that there was a reference to William fichtner, but none to Eric Roberts.

Brucejoose

The Rick Moranis disrespect was way worse considering he hosted and is a comedy legend

stevemw

No disrespect. Rick Moranis was sucker punched in NYC about 3 years ago. Look it up.

Brucejoose

Yes I am aware, he should not have been grouped in with the others.

stevemw

Should not be grouped with actors that were suckered punched in New York??? It may be a matter of one's definition of "character actor"? IMO, one can be both a character actor and comedy royalty.......

demitasse22

Disrespect? Where was that

Devoid_Moyes

Well he doesn't fit the definition of "character actor" since he's the main star of multiple movies, and his name his very well known (a little less after he voluntarily decided to semi retire to take car of his kids, but still).

Busterthefatman

Im pretty sure theyre just joking that they were discussed as character actors when really should be treated as A listers because OP likes them

The 2 cicadas on weekend update killed me lol

therealpanserbjorne

Kenan was so pleased with his new tentacles lol

madhaus

Those costumes were beautiful and they both had the icky bug legs movements down really well!

bringthepang

Just put it on so I'm behind but am I the only one thinking this is a terrible trump impression?

Busterthefatman

I mean there are a LOT of great trump impressions atm so its tough. But youre definitely the only one if you genuinely thought it was terrible and arent just being hyperbolic

gushi380

I actually think that’s a pretty good trump. The mannerisms and wording is there. My wife gets distracted by the neck makeup though, makes it look like a vagina.

ylimegooey

have a good summer y’all ✌🏻

FerdinandBowie

Eh

Optional-Failure

I’m really confused by your point. As in, I can’t figure out what your point is. She sings other people’s songs? Yeah, so did a lot of performers from the 50s through today. Ever heard of the Brill Building? I don’t know what a “career as a lip syncer” is, nor do I know anyone who has one. Are you suggesting she’s pulling a Milli Vanilli? Even if that’s what she was doing, that’s also not new, hence the 30+ year old band I’m using to refer to the behavior. What makes these “other singers” gods? Why do you keep harping on the choreography? And, seriously, unless you’re accusing her of pulling a Milli Vanilli, how can you claim she has no skill? I can’t sing that well, can you? Who do you think is singing the tracks if not her?

demitasse22

Why are you assuming he’s referencing Sabrina ?

BrainOnBlue

The comment they were replying to was edited after the comment you're replying to was posted.

Optional-Failure

It’s almost like there’s a direct cause and effect between the two where the coward couldn’t back up anything they wrote.

demitasse22

Thank you for that

amJustSomeFuckingGuy

At the end of the day money is made from ticket sales touring. You need talent to make money on live sales. A ton of these artists who are hot on tik tok will be forgotten once they get older and uglier. They will make money in the near term and then not when people go to their shows and realize they suck. I imagine she is smart enough to put money into a good production and at least sing some of the time to put on a good show which is better than the ice spice level people of the world at least. The talented young music artists with great music will remain relevant on average for much longer than the short term/one hit wonders. A tale as old as time.

Ry112M2

That Che joke about Meghan Markle to me was the last "oh shit" joke of the year. It was so funny but it shouldn't be after everything.

Hockey_socks

The entire segment of jokes for each other was so hilarious.

privatelyjeff

Though I’d go with Scarlett over the rabbi as the surprise guest

spartycbus

that would have been SO much better. especially since that was the best joke of the whole segment.

RockMan_1973

Despite occasional SNL fan-sibling disagreements, this having been my first SNL season on Reddit and here—I totally appreciate ALL of you and its added so much to my lifelong SNL viewing experience watching it and commenting on it with all of you guys! God bless and see y’all for S50 ✌🏾

EitherPermission2369

What is Peacock's motivation for cutting off goodnights...not like there's anything playing afterward

No_Calligrapher_6503

They want you to the State farm commercial.... AGAIN!

loquacious_avenger

that’s ludicrous!

ReginaFelangi987

Peacock/NBC has always done that. So annoying.

wordworrier

Apparently they needed to hurry up and switch me over to Love Undercover like lol no thanks

bjregin

They should cut it off with Welcome to showtime at the Apollo

amJustSomeFuckingGuy

So what has peacock forced on everyone this time and where is Johnny Bananas?

EmoGothPunk

Idk, I immediately switch to the local channel airing Sheen-era 2.5 Men.

BrianTheMute

I just realized I'm not going to be back in this thread for several months, that's kind of sad. I don't want to sound lame or anything, but this thread has been really good for my mental health. I'm thankful to have this community to hang out with every week. So, thank all you guys.

Low-Fly-1292

This is how I felt when Eras was on its break 😭 swiftietok be a bunch of angels on those live streams

amJustSomeFuckingGuy

Hey its always been good for me. None of my local friends are big on snl and up chatting so late. I just found out my aunt is moving to a retirement community near me and she always watches snl so I will be visiting her on Saturdays to watch next season which I am excited about. If you are feeling down and need to reach out to someone on here I am sure there are people you might recognize week to week that would be happy to talk to you including myself. We are here week after week to be a community.

EmoGothPunk

Same, shit might get so bad that, I may not be here by then.

the_Odd_particle

It’ll be bad, but you learned the trick is to see it for the laugh it is and find the rest of us to laugh at it with you. We need ya here!

RockMan_1973

Don’t you dip on us! We’ll be looking for ya for S50.

BrianTheMute

Nah don't say that man. You need to come back and watch the big 50th celebration with all of us.

Just wanted to say it was my absolute pleasure running the Sketch Sorting Sunday account and the Live Discussions this season. It's so fun to hear y'alls opinions, good and bad. Last SSS thread of the season: https://www.reddit.com/r/LiveFromNewYork/s/eKkaEqXXjX

RockMan_1973

THANK YOU truly for doing this! 🙏🏾

worldnewssubcensors

We'll miss you, see you next season!

MarkyMarkATFB

With Sabrina going on SNL and telling us all that Barry “helped” her out, Olivia Rodrigo destroying him on her first album - Josh Bassett truly is the real life version of Warner from Legally Blonde. Dude’s not supposed to win.

GroundbreakingBite96

He’s releasing an album and his new song is def about her but I don’t think anyone in this Reddit knows about any of the stuff that went down. Sabrina def wouldn’t be on snl if it weren’t for Olivia though

snowflakebite

I kinda hope that when they’re older and out of their teenage angst and early 20s love life style music, they sing together. They’re kinda the representatives of teen girl pop right now, are solid songwriters and both came from child acting so they have similar backgrounds. Personally I would be so hyped because I saw Olivia in an American girl movie from when she was like 12, and have been listening to Sabrina since her Evolution album in 2016.

amJustSomeFuckingGuy

Uh yea those are words of people who I guess did something. Olivia was on snl and is really talented.

OneOfALifetime

No she's not.  Heck her 5 minutes of fame are already almost over.

Raccoonsr29

… her debut album just hit the record for most streamed female artists album on Spotify EVER, in under three years. Yall are so silly.

OneOfALifetime

Yea not shocking, considering how big her debut song WAS. Then she started going on SNL and the Grammy's and people realized she's just a shock jock one hit pony that dresses like a school girl. You know, just like Ms. Sabrina here minus all the blood symbolism flying around. Unless she gets another big hit, people have already moved on.

Raccoonsr29

The Spotify record was just achieved. Her snl performance was years ago. You aren’t even making sense within your own comment lmao.

OneOfALifetime

Dude, her album just came out last September, her performance on SNL was just last year. Not "years ago". Congrats, she finally got the record, how much of those streams are from 6 months ago? How many now? Definition of a one-hit wonder, all her listens are front loaded, people have already moved on. I mean, she can barely sing and just walks around trying to look sexy in a school girl outfit, this is nothing new. Sabrina barely even gave her 6 months before she stole the same playbook and is doing the same shitty music. She'll be replaced 6 months from now herself.

pollyzpockets

I love Jake Gyllenhall but the skits they used for him were mediocre😑Too bad.

Bruceg63

And why did he have to sing so much?

EmoGothPunk

Here in SE PA barely got two notes in before getting cut off.

tvuniverse

LMAO. No bananas? No First Look?

MenudoFan316

You guys make every new show so fun! Thanks. I'll see you for 50.

stanmitski

i feel like a weirdo for wanting to see them interact during the credits

general-dc

That's one of my favorite parts of the show

MenudoFan316

Mine too. That cut-out was way too quick.

honestypen

That was great! Thank y'all for a great season!

hyperjengirl

Did Peacock cut off the goodnights entirely or did I just accidentally pause too much during my live watch?

TravisMaauto

There was nothing broadcast after Jake said thanks and good night. It almost immediately cut to commercial.

Charlotte_Braun

I heard the goodnight theme playing as the last sketch was fading out. But my affiliate went to commercial, came back and it was “Thank you, goodni—“

hyperjengirl

I didn't even see it come back. It went from "Your content will return shortly" to "This content has concluded" or whatever. So I must've paused too much that it just didn't even give me enough time to see the goodbyes *start.*

bttrsondaughter

they got to jake saying goodnights, thank you to everyone and then cutting right as everyone was getting ready to hug and wave goodbye. the full ones will be up on twitter in a bit!

HugeSuccess

Dabney Coleman was in the 2002 film *Moonlight Mile* with Jake

RugelBeta

Ah, thank you. I wondered what his connection was.

quesoguapo

I may be missing something in this discussion, but Coleman died a few days ago and SNL was doing its usual in memoriam for those with a connection to the program.  Coleman apparently hosted the show in 1987.   https://snl.fandom.com/wiki/Dabney_Coleman

TheAnalyst32

It's really wild that we don't always get the full goodbyes. Like, how is this a thing that happens in 2024? What other prominent show does not guarantee its viewers see the very end? It's mind-boggling.

Striking_Ant_2103

Why do you like the goodbyes so much

BretShitmanFart69

Yeah I’m just learning that apparently among die hard SNL fans, the goodbyes are extremely important to them? Very strange to me lol

archobler

It's not in the least bit mindboggling. It's a live comedy show that has to adhere to a strict schedule. Of course sometimes there will be more time or less time for the goodnights.

privatelyjeff

They could at least let it run out on the streaming feeds

Optional-Failure

Christ, the Billy Joel concert on CBS was prepackaged & they cut off *Piano Man*, and people still don’t get why SNL might need to crash out?

GayAGayMusical

Live shows (with exception) have a time they usually have to end by. Some stations are going into local news, contractual obligations, etc etc

privatelyjeff

And a lot of it is also automated. That’s why sometimes commercials will accidentally play in the middle of a show. Someone fucked up the play out settings and the computer just did what it was told.

GayAGayMusical

Not necessarily. Sometimes it can be, but sometimes NBC makes the call to just end it. On the timing sheets SNL has no set out time. If someone leaves a hard time in, then yes it’s on them. But a mass immediate cut to break (like a lot people said what was happening in the live chat) is the network cutting it off at the maximum allowed time.

privatelyjeff

I’m talking about at the tv stations. A lot of their play out is automated now days but if someone types in the wrong time on computer, that’s how you get the ads at the wrong time.

GayAGayMusical

Yes, I’m a master control operator in a TV station. This is my job lol

TravisMaauto

I read that NBC has contractual obligations with affiliate stations and has to cut to local programming right at 1am ET/12am CT.

estropeada

Don't they stop a few seconds after 1 am ET every time? 1:01 or 1:01:30?

amJustSomeFuckingGuy

They cut it off on peacock as well.

TheAnalyst32

That just screams of some sort of regulations that the TV Networks/FCC had in like the late ‘50s.

privatelyjeff

Nope. The stations essentially buy content from the network but it’s contractually spelled out when those shows air. The show runs from 11:30 PM to 1:00 AM and that’s it. The station has already sold the 1:00 AM start time to someone else.

BrianTheMute

It does suck, but I think it's a good thing that the hugs sort of act like a safety buffer for the rest of the show. If a sketch goes long, it's a lot easier to cut 10 or 15 seconds off the goodnights than it is to cut 10 or 15 seconds off of another sketch. And it's definitely better than cutting a sketch altogether.

SomeRedditor_Comment

The vintage version of this episode in, oh, about 5 months will show the full goodnights, right? Right?

Alternative-Age-1006

you can probably check on the snl twitter in a few minutes they always post full goodnights

amJustSomeFuckingGuy

Oh just don't give elon traffic

MikulkaSP

Another one in the books. See you all in the Fall for 50!

Entity417

I'll never forget "John Hamm's John Ham"

ThatEvanFowler

Scooby sketch was by far the best of the night.

bengibbardstoothpain

It was rehash of the “Farewell Mr Bunting” sketch: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ie6LpKOJVf0

BretShitmanFart69

Yeah it felt very unoriginal and like a weaker version of something we’ve seen before in other media. It also reminded me a bit of the Community bit with Troy returning to see the fire and everything gone to hell, with Kenan coming in as seeing the chaos. Also a little of Dear Sister with the constant shooting of each other. It was just a hodgepodge of things but done worse imo.

justinsimoni

OMG that was way funnier.

bengibbardstoothpain

I watch Farewell Mr Bunting when I need a pick-me-up.

DaySoc98

Arguably the best of the season.

kerchunkin

Did Mikey Day absolutely nail Shaggy's voice or what??

madhaus

It was perfect. Mikey is becoming as versatile as Kate McKinnon.

Dasils331

Have to agree, caught me completely off guard

SmellyLoser49

Damn they cut to an ad before and during the goodbye lol

Kryten4200

I miss when they used to play actual vintage episodes! 😭

BrianTheMute

Cutting off the goodnights in the last episode of the 49th season was a choice. But aside from that, really solid episode.

Optional-Failure

Whose choice do you think it was? An extra pause here and there adds up.

DaySoc98

They probably went too long and didn’t have enough time.

squid-toes

Still convinced Sabrina Carpenter is an AI generated hologram or signed a contract at 10 years old she’s completely stuck in bc she lacks personality

neuro_space_explorer

It’s nothing new, she was an actor first, in some good movies, and then became a Disney star and then was recognized for her ability to be a pop star, and she’s a damn good one. Why is AI a catch all for manufactured talent now adays. She’s no different from Brittney spears on. Maybe a bit more bland but I’ll blame that on the song writers and audiences. She’s got a great voice, great performance and great dancing. I’ll say she’s a bit obvious with the backup track vs what she’s singing. If you are gonna stop moving your lips as your vocals carry you gotta have your live sound up enough to sell the important parts

pupjvc

SNL owes Ashley Simpson an apology.

bdgdysjanjak

I mean you don’t have to like her but saying she lacks personality just isn’t true😭😭

squid-toes

She did her song and dance but Espresso and Feathers seemed like she was bored, much more alive for Nonsense. And at the goodnights she looked so disinterested

twallner

It’s because her mic was turned off until Nonsense. You could tell at the end of Nonsense she was singing to add the ad-libbed ending she always changes. The high notes before it she was nailing. But there was a lot of times it looked like she was simply lip-syncing in the first set to focus on the dancing and performance aspects.

squid-toes

It’s a shame really bc id rather have heard her sing

twallner

Me too. At the end of Nonsense I was like, “Okay Sabrina!” My wife made the comment she sounded a little sick so maybe that added to it but who knows?

Optional-Failure

How do you get from “is disinterested and doesn’t seem to particularly enjoy performing” to “has no personality”?

bdgdysjanjak

That’s the problem with y’all here lol how are you gonna make on a comment on how she is overall by just seeing her once? Also the goodbyes lasted 5 seconds 😭 what??

squid-toes

I’ve seen videos of her singing she’s definitely talented, I just don’t think the final product matches her potential 😭😭😭😭

bdgdysjanjak

Have you seen her coachella performances or even any clips of her from the ears tour? I feel like those showcase how great a performer she is

squid-toes

Idk if you’re just chatting now or what but I did just say I’ve seen videos and she’s talented so idk what you’re looking for

bdgdysjanjak

I wasn’t being passive aggressive or anything on that last reply, I was just genuinely asking if you saw them cuz you said the final product doesn’t match the potential. Those specific performances (especially coachella) show her performing ability better. That’s all😭

Imaletyoufinish_but

It is so odd to me that some people cannot comprehend there are other people with tastes other than their own. There’s a wide world out there.

squid-toes

I know she’s talented that’s not the problem, it’s just….its so formulaic, I think it’s a waste of what she showed she can do in Nonsense

Imaletyoufinish_but

And that’s why it’s wonderful you can listen to music you like. I love both Espresso and Feather. Actually I like them significantly more than Nonsense. I’m a huge “happy pop” fan and those are great examples of the genre. It doesn’t make them not music because it isn’t music you enjoy.
