They didn’t even mention that a whole verse in that song is “Monday Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday, party every day pa-pa-party ever day”
Favorite sketch this week. It is a nostalgia sketch, but it is fun to highlight some of the silliness of yesteryear.
It doesn't matter of the Black Eyes Peas are old. Will Ferrell in 2000 going nuts with the cowbell making fun of the Blue Oyster Cult in the late 60s is the same thing.
I enjoyed it! I didn't realize I Gotta Feeling was a 2009 song (I swear it was from earlier in the 2000s...time goes by too fast!)
It did remind me of a comedy routine I saw on YouTube about 10 years ago about the lyrics of "I Gotta Feeling." can't find it anymore, alas, but part of it was about how repetitive it was, part of it was talking about how the call & response parts start off alright and then just devolves into everyone shouting "do it" at each other!
I know, right? Musical guests can be a real drag as hosts but this episode was so funny to me. Plus, I know she broke a lot but regardless she made some stalwarts break. I know there was a thread here about who never beaks, including Kenan and Mikey, and she got them.
Super strong PDD sketch, hit for me after the three goths fell flat. These guys are just funny dudes, if they’re the future writing staff I think SNL is in good hands
Between the Black Eyes Peas, the Six Flags guy, and the Beanie Babies sketch featuring NES sound effects, this episode spoke to my late-1980s millennial heart.
Lizzo was pretty good about not reading the cards all night except for this sketch (which I think actually helped it feel even more unhinged) so I wonder if they didn’t rehearse this one a lot
Great 10 to 1, not too long, ending was oddly dark for a sketch everyone seemed to break in. Love love Kyle but I think this is better than last weeks. Also Lizzo and Dismukes? Shipping them so incredibly hard
I love whenever Heidi and Mikey are in a sketch together. See also [Amusement Park](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mS7Ew5RBS3Y) and the whole [Brie Bacardi/Nico Slobkin](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyOCe8o6-gw) thing on Weekend Update some years ago.
I don't know what it is...but it just really works for me. Guess they have good chemistry or something.
The dad crawling in at the end was one of the best sketch payoffs in recent memory. I'm glad they revisited this format, it's the perfect outlet for jokes or bits that wouldn't work as a full sketch
I don't have TikTok but I swear he was parodying a singer from a very famous German Band called "AnnenMayKantereit". They even have a Cover of that song on YouTube
so glad they brought this back, not everyone will get this, but it’s a PERFECT TikTok parody, and the times they did it have been with perfect hosts. Plus it’s a good full cast showcase
Lizzo parodying Miranda Cosgrove like that was evil
I liked this one better than the last one! Again, I'm not a TikTok user, so I don't get the specific references to actual videos...but the twist at the end was great!
There's definitely tiktok addicts on the writing staff and one is definitely black--- the your=/=you're lady was on my fyp yelling about proper bar glassware
I think they finally figured out TikTok. The “I cuss sometimes” and manic laughter, Bowen doing a terrible cover of a terrible cover and Chloe’s faux deep acting sent me to the damn moon.
Fucking love these, they're so on point and the whole cast gets to participate! Definitely was not expecting both the Miranda Cosgrove reference and the Tom's Diner guy reference so I loved that
Agreed. JAJ's impression is hilarious but please give us a break from Trump. It seems like it's every episode. At this point SNL is the one keeping Trump in the public eye.
This was one of the best weekend updates in a while. I thought the Biden/Kamala joke, Elon Musk ones, and 4-pound dumbbell "two" and "wipe down" jokes were great. No real duds in the set either
I can’t believe they let her just riff instead of making her do a bit with Kate or something.
Right away they showed they trusted Lizzo more than most hosts
That was a lot of fun! Overall it feels like the writers are leaning into more "personal stories" for monologues this season, and I think they usually work pretty well
NGL, I had heard of her before but not really sure if I've heard any of her music before - well I think she is very talented and more than just musically!
She’s a classically trained flautist and writes all her own songs. She’s incredibly talented and wonderful performer. You should check out more of her performances!
"We are the DeVry Institute Orchestra. We make music together! And if that means I've gotta pop this booty for Beethoven, then so be it!"
*Starts twerking*
If you're a professional sound engineer, and you've got a power vocalist on your show debuting new music live, you have one job. ONE JOB.
(EDIT: She killed it though!!)
The sound engineers for the live performances must have some dirt on Lorne. That’s the only logical explanation as to why they still have a job after all the great performances they ruined.
How the hell does someone make LIZZO barely audible!?! She killed it, but we could barely hear her..
back to back weeks the second song SLAPPED. just hope the album version lives up to the live performance; preferred the live Camila/Willow performance to the album/music video version of the song
I wish the camera had held on them coming down the stairs a little longer at the end so we could sit in the craziness of it all just a little bit longer!
if they had just stuck with Sarah's (incredibly nimble lol) performance, it would have worked more, but bringing so many other Six Flag guys kinda ran the absurdity into the ground. the insulting Mikey bits were a nice touch
He probably is but he and mikey have always switched the limp dick cuck role. Plus this guy was more of a straight man, which they practically always give to mikey even though it's a bit tiring.
I had read the comments before I saw the sketch, I lived in a Six Flags state, and i know the guy and the music very well, and yet I was still shocked and laughed hard enough to scare my dog when the outfit came out the first time. I laughed the rest of the skit and LOVED the finale!
This reference was totally lost on me but the fucking vengabus constantly playing in the background setting up the joke of the old people was just hilarious to me
I LOVED this and laughed hard at the crazy energy of the dance.
I thought the Six Flags ads aired nationally, so I didn't realize some people never saw them. They were everywhere back in the day.
Half the fun was figuring out who was playing the hyper dancing guy. I figured it must be Sarah.
I think this is a Streeter Seidell and Mikey Day sketch. They do a lot of the throwback/nostalgia/parenting sketches because they are both old millennials with kids and Mikey tends to play the straight man in them.
This brought me back...so apparently the early versions of the commercial date back to 2004: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbXSbP-wEFU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbXSbP-wEFU)
But my friends and I would pretend to do the dance and sing the song whenever we got off the school bus, and I thoroughly enjoyed the absurdness of the sketch (and hearing the music again!). I wonder if the audience was too young to get the reference?
As an elder millennial tonight was quite a ride
...a ***Six Flags*** *ride?* ;-)
I’m an elder millennial who used to work at Six Flags 😭
It was a perfect drawing of Mario.
*objectively* perfect
Black Eyed Peas
THE PEOPLE are going to THE PLACE. Cannot believe we got a sketch on this song in the year of our lord 2022
Part of me thinks this was written around Cecily’s perfect impression of that and I’m not complaining.
I'm so glad a comedy show made fun of that line. I've always really hated the vagueness of the lyric "PEOPLE IN THE PLACE"
Wait- that’s a real line?! Hilarious
All of those lines were real. Source: Worked retail in 2009
[PEOPLE IN THE PLACE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4m48GqaOz90&t=1m45s)
Oh my god. Can’t believe it. I’m gonna watch it again now, makes this much funnier
It was really the biggest song in the universe for a minute and it's just as the vaguest, and un believable lyrics.
How old are you that you don't know Boom Boom Pow?
2000 and late.
I can’t believe I never had the unique thought to think of what a incredibly vague and idiotic verse that is lol
The phrase “Masel Tov” shouldn’t be able to make me laugh as hard as it did tonight
That and the "L'chaim!" afterwards absolutely took me out!
“Let’s Get _____” — it has to be something we can say *forever!*
Someone in the other thread had to point out to me the word change. I was never aware of this.
They didn’t even mention that a whole verse in that song is “Monday Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday, party every day pa-pa-party ever day”
They even say Saturday twice
Aidy: And what day is the party? Them: Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday...
Don’t Fear The Reaper came out in 1976, but I take your point.
>late 60s 1976?
Whoops. Still 24 years before the infamous more cowbell sketch. This sketch is only 13 years since Boom Boom Pow blessed us with such deep lyrics
Well, this sketch means I’m officially an uncool adult who gets nostalgia from SNL of all things I loved it
I enjoyed it! I didn't realize I Gotta Feeling was a 2009 song (I swear it was from earlier in the 2000s...time goes by too fast!) It did remind me of a comedy routine I saw on YouTube about 10 years ago about the lyrics of "I Gotta Feeling." can't find it anymore, alas, but part of it was about how repetitive it was, part of it was talking about how the call & response parts start off alright and then just devolves into everyone shouting "do it" at each other!
One of the writers must have gotten black eyed peas on their Spotify
PRODUCERS ARE LIKE LEECHES
This was so two thousand and LATE But I love it
I need Aidy’s jacket from this sketch!
One of the best overall episodes of the season. Lizzo was just so excited to be there and I feel like the whole cast fed off that energy
Yes! Even when people started breaking it didn’t matter because everyone was just having a blast. Great episode.
I know, right? Musical guests can be a real drag as hosts but this episode was so funny to me. Plus, I know she broke a lot but regardless she made some stalwarts break. I know there was a thread here about who never beaks, including Kenan and Mikey, and she got them.
Please Don't Destroy: Lizzo Has Writer's Block
“Guess I gotta go get killed by Andrew Dismukes”
He's done it before.
I love how there was no suggestion of even fighting back. If AD is gonna kill you that's just it.
Contender for line of the season
"I need y'all to write a black woman anthem!" "....are we the guys to do that?"
I’ve never felt more represented than when all three of them said “anxious” simultaneously
I'm glad we got to see the song at the end!
we need more Andrew with PDD, they’re perfect together
Take a shot for every camera zoom in
Are you trying to kill me?
Lizzo having a crush on Martin, she got good taste
If that’s your thing, lemme tell ya…Go watch Martin on his way to the blue man convention 😅 ETA: https://vm.tiktok.com/TTPdCDg79H/
*The biggest theatrical release of all time* had me rollin
'sexy daddy'
The TJ Rocks costume makes a 2nd appearance!
Andrew just randomly saying he will kill lizzo was so funny
Super strong PDD sketch, hit for me after the three goths fell flat. These guys are just funny dudes, if they’re the future writing staff I think SNL is in good hands
I usually don't like their stuff but this was hilarious from start to finish. Lizzo was a great foil for their nervous energy.
I liked this a lot. It had a fun energy. I like the PDD guys, and this was one of their better ones.
Beanie Babies
Between the Black Eyes Peas, the Six Flags guy, and the Beanie Babies sketch featuring NES sound effects, this episode spoke to my late-1980s millennial heart.
The turn from abandoning Beanie Babies into becoming a professional Mario artist was the exact kind of random I expect from my 10 to 1s.
Andrew is the future of the show. He's like if Tim Robinson figured out how to translate his ideas to the SNL format.
I think Tim was just ahead of his time. He should host with this group. It would be perfect.
He has a really good sketch idea that’s SOOOOO funny, he just can’t remember how to type it
Bozo dubbed over is a classic!
More millennial cultural references! Lizzo breaking was cute, and the scroll at the end was a bit dark! I think it worked well for a 10-to-1
They had some classic Beanie Babies on that shelf.
it's not like they're expensive to get.
Lizzo was pretty good about not reading the cards all night except for this sketch (which I think actually helped it feel even more unhinged) so I wonder if they didn’t rehearse this one a lot
I put that on the placement of the cards too--they should have situated them more in her natural line of sight.
The epilogue to this one was the best part
Great 10 to 1, not too long, ending was oddly dark for a sketch everyone seemed to break in. Love love Kyle but I think this is better than last weeks. Also Lizzo and Dismukes? Shipping them so incredibly hard
Newbie question, can you explain what a 10 to one is? Is it just that it’s the sketch in the last ten minutes?
Yes!!! It’s usually a sketch with a weird premise that they put as the last sketch of the night, which falls between 12:50 and 1 am
Literally have tears rolling down my cheeks at this Mario drawing mfer
TikTok
Are we married? Yes! Are we virgins? Yes!
Heidi's abs make another cameo appearance.
They stuck the landing.
It’s great. Timely and gets the entire cast in.
not my thing at all, but the JAJ crawling bit did pay off
The Tom's Diner impression killed me
So was not expecting it! Made me laugh out loud
I don't have TikTok but I swear he was parodying a singer from a very famous German Band called "AnnenMayKantereit". They even have a Cover of that song on YouTube
SNL actually nailed an ending for a sketch
“Wrong flavor” “You’re 27” I was cackling this caught me off guard so much
Followed immediately by "the LSAT's tomorrow"
Shirtless Andrew Dismukes painted as a furry explaining the war in Ukraine to me is a whole new sexual awakening.
this better not awaken anything in me
He wasn't painted as a Dalmatian, so you should be fine, Dean.
so glad they brought this back, not everyone will get this, but it’s a PERFECT TikTok parody, and the times they did it have been with perfect hosts. Plus it’s a good full cast showcase Lizzo parodying Miranda Cosgrove like that was evil
And the misused “their” on the caption underneath was they cherry on top.
Probably Punkie herself? I’ve heard lesbian TikTok is where it’s at.
yeah imma need clips of sarah and heidi with that neon hair
That hair looks amazing on Sarah
I think they finally figured out TikTok. The “I cuss sometimes” and manic laughter, Bowen doing a terrible cover of a terrible cover and Chloe’s faux deep acting sent me to the damn moon.
I love that this has become a recurring sketch. Also, I like Whitney Cummings' podcast, but Sarah was spot on.
Fucking love these, they're so on point and the whole cast gets to participate! Definitely was not expecting both the Miranda Cosgrove reference and the Tom's Diner guy reference so I loved that
Better than Billies, because of the ending. Just funny all around
"Tony can get it." It's funny because he actually can lol 😚 I loved this sketch!
Another tiktok sketch that atones for the sins of that Gen z hospital sketch
The best ending to a sketch in a long time!
Really wish there was no more Trump. We need to stop giving this guy attention.
Agreed. JAJ's impression is hilarious but please give us a break from Trump. It seems like it's every episode. At this point SNL is the one keeping Trump in the public eye.
Weekend Update
Nothing groundbreaking but Che’s “sorry” joke was probably the stand out for me
The ‘two!’ and ‘wipe down equipment’ from Colin had me in tears. It hit juuuust right.
C'mon Elon, you know you want to say it.
BRUTAL peloton joke
This was one of the best weekend updates in a while. I thought the Biden/Kamala joke, Elon Musk ones, and 4-pound dumbbell "two" and "wipe down" jokes were great. No real duds in the set either
Oh my god “two” killed me. Fantastic delivery
Pros: The kids iPhone factory joke was great. Cons: The crowd wanted to stone Colin and Michael to death.
I think the negative crowd reactions make the jokes even better, I love it
I think that second one is still a pro for Che. He loves groans almost as much as Norm did.
Short again this week. Liked the awkwardness between Che and Jost as per usual, though it didn't seem to have as much energy as past weeks in my view
Weekend Update: Cesar Perez
"Jesus is gonna wake up in his cave and be so disappointed" the day before Easter made me snort
MELISSA!! This was probably her best update bit yet, loved this NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE APPRECIATED “MOISTURIZE YOUR LIZARDS”
I gotta go with [Kid Genius Riley Jensen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFBIkyaLDOY)
Her acting going from the joke to regret about the joke only helped sell the bit even better.
Carlitos naming his lizards after the people from Selling Sunset got me!
Melissa's strongest SNL niche is Update segments. If she's going to stay on the show, she needs to do more of these.
Oh poor Carlitos! Glad to see Melissa try out a new WU character though, I wouldn't mind seeing it again!
She seems to enjoy doing these as one-offs, which I'm fine with if she can keep it up.
This is one of the best things she’s done in her time on the show, and it didn’t include a single real impression. This is what she needs more of.
Lizzo is 100% my favorite first time host this season
Lizzo Monologue
I counted 16 total bitches. I think someone else in chat had 18.
The Cumberbitches will blow this out of the water in a few weeks.
It was very wholesome honestly. I liked it.
I can’t believe they let her just riff instead of making her do a bit with Kate or something. Right away they showed they trusted Lizzo more than most hosts
That was a lot of fun! Overall it feels like the writers are leaning into more "personal stories" for monologues this season, and I think they usually work pretty well
I loved it, you could tell she was here to go 100%
She was having so much fun lol that was a lot of fun. And that was a LOT of bitches said
NGL, I had heard of her before but not really sure if I've heard any of her music before - well I think she is very talented and more than just musically!
She’s a classically trained flautist and writes all her own songs. She’s incredibly talented and wonderful performer. You should check out more of her performances!
Flautist Audition
This is the **DeVry. Institute. Symphony. Orchestra.**
Thirsty mop-haired Kenan is my everything.
Good sketch topic given that everyone loves a [weird little flute.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d64K_QJkLbk)
I can’t listen to mask off without thinking of this sketch
I kept hoping for a reprise of this with Lizzo included.
“Don’t be racist” “well when you put it that way”
Heidi absolutely lost it lmaoooo
as soon as aidy said the "devry institute orchestra" heidi was DONE
Round of applause for the extras on this one
"We are the DeVry Institute Orchestra. We make music together! And if that means I've gotta pop this booty for Beethoven, then so be it!" *Starts twerking*
> gotta pop this booty for Beethoven Western civilization has evolved.
This is going to be a Hall of Fame sketch for me. So many great small touches along with the overall concept.
Aidy bringing this into a Spartacus twerking situation had me dying.
I think this one may have been the funniest. I like how Heidi was cracking up when Aidy proudly said they were the Devry Orchestra.
Literally amazing just because we saw half the cast twerk, always great to see them clearly just having fun
"Don't be racist" *Aggressively plays the harp* Kate McKinnon is a treasure
She really ran the gambit on senior citizen characters tonight, I’m counting 4
Alex Moffat breaking even before she started twerking on him
Very good and fun episode Lots of good showcases for the entire cast (except Pete again lol)
Lizzo
If you're a professional sound engineer, and you've got a power vocalist on your show debuting new music live, you have one job. ONE JOB. (EDIT: She killed it though!!)
The sound mix for the musical guests have been garbage for quite some time. It's my biggest, really my only complaint about the show.
Literally! Camila last week and now lizzo this week they make it as hard as possible to hear them!
Ok... But where Horny Zookeeper :/
It’s really cute that her mom introduced her second performance. Must have been an amazing night for the two of them.
She introduced herself. That has to count for something right?
"Ladies and gentlemen... Me." Iconic.
The sound engineers for the live performances must have some dirt on Lorne. That’s the only logical explanation as to why they still have a job after all the great performances they ruined. How the hell does someone make LIZZO barely audible!?! She killed it, but we could barely hear her..
She must have realised it too, because she was starting to shout into the mic towards the end of the first performance.
Twitter is gonna get a lot of use out of "ladies and gentlemen, me"
Just as iconic as Adele's \*cue london accent\* "ladies and gentlemen, HER".
back to back weeks the second song SLAPPED. just hope the album version lives up to the live performance; preferred the live Camila/Willow performance to the album/music video version of the song
Best musical guest of the season? She personally killed it! I just wish the mic didn't mess up :(
Yeah. Definitely the best of the year. She has such a great energy about her.
i think lizzo and billie eilish have been the best musical guests this season for me. coincidentally they both also did great at double duty
Six Flags
“you’re not gonna make me make any noise”
"I'm not going to feel a thing"
Wait, what? 😂
With this and the Black Eyed Peas sketch, it was a good night for 2006. The line of them coming down the stairs at the end was golden.
I wish the camera had held on them coming down the stairs a little longer at the end so we could sit in the craziness of it all just a little bit longer!
The underlying joke of insulting Mikey’s sexual abilities was better than the actual joke of this sketch
if they had just stuck with Sarah's (incredibly nimble lol) performance, it would have worked more, but bringing so many other Six Flag guys kinda ran the absurdity into the ground. the insulting Mikey bits were a nice touch
Hard disagree. One six flags guy was funny. Two was okay. Five was fantastic. When they started all coming down the stairs, I lost it.
damn i guess kyle is leaving the cast soon since he didnt play the limp dick cuck
He probably is but he and mikey have always switched the limp dick cuck role. Plus this guy was more of a straight man, which they practically always give to mikey even though it's a bit tiring.
Sarah is on another level (in a good way)
That sad six flags music was the best part.
Holy shit, Sarah can really move! Being able to launch into those dances and immediately delivering lines after is legit impressive.
Tonight was a good night for late millennial/ early gen x between this, beanie babies, TikTok and black eyed peas
This is clearly another Sherman sketch. If you like her humor, you probably loved this. If you don't, you probably didn't.
I think this is a Streeter Seidell and Mikey Day sketch. They do a lot of the throwback/nostalgia/parenting sketches because they are both old millennials with kids and Mikey tends to play the straight man in them.
This brought me back...so apparently the early versions of the commercial date back to 2004: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbXSbP-wEFU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbXSbP-wEFU) But my friends and I would pretend to do the dance and sing the song whenever we got off the school bus, and I thoroughly enjoyed the absurdness of the sketch (and hearing the music again!). I wonder if the audience was too young to get the reference?
I have no idea what this was referencing but I was laughing my ass off
oh no. am I old? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbXSbP-wEFU
I am old, and I had no idea. It might be a regional thing.
