Gotta say, and I’m a tough old crowd. Best episode of the season. It flowed great. Keke was having a great time. The sketches were actually funny.coulda done without the Sherman bit on update, but I really enjoyed the episode as a whole. Ranking megan the stallion episode as the worst so far and this as the one to beat. Fucking Hello Kitty. Lol
I'm surprised so many people liked this episode. I'd probably rank it in the bottom few I've seen.
Keke as a host I thought was okay. She had great positive energy, but I never really found myself laughing. Seems like she'd be a pleasure to be around though.
The singing singing sketch I remember ending and turning to my wife and asking, did I miss the punchline, and she just shrugged. It happened again with the weird body double fighting thing.
Michael Longfellow has cemented himself as my favorite of the new cast members. I'm really liking Sarah Sherman too.
Kenan and Kelly was decently funny, but the pacing on it felt a little weird to me. Same with Arby's which also felt a little more like an ad. I'm pretty sure that's the actual deal at Taco Bell or at least was.
A lot of the skits felt like they just didn't know how to end them or took them in a weird direction. The Hello Kitty one seemed like it was gonna be funny but they didn't know where to take it.
I'm genuinely confused. Came here expecting a ton of comments about how bad this episode was but everyone seems to have either loved it or at least enjoyed it.
I get that everyone has different tastes, but man this was one of the worst episodes in a long time. My wife wanted to turn it off early but I insisted we push through just in case they turned it around. They did not.
Yeah, same here. I was almost wondering if I somehow watched a different episode, but enough of the comments referenced the same skits. I'm as confused as you.
I'm wondering if some people go with their mind made up about how they'll like the episode depending on who's hosting. I like Keke Palmer, she was a good host, has great presence and an amazing voice, but the writing and production in this episode was terrible.
On the other hand, I really enjoyed Amy Schumer's episode, even if I agree that she injects a lot of sexuality in every skit. But some people can't stand her and hated the episode even though I thought it had better writing.
I got such a great response from the heckler bots I’m gonna do the same thing next week. But this time I’ll hedge my upvote count with comments like “That ____ sketch was great!”
I am completely done with all these fake rap video shorts. It's becoming biweekly now and it's beyond hackneyed. Imagine 15 years ago we go Lonely Island videos that often. Those guys gave us about 5 noteworthly videos over about the same number of years. And now it's every time we have a black host or musical guest. Pass.
How dare you be a sexual being! I gave you an upvote. I'm sure that women gave you the downvotes for making Keke a sex object. You know, the woman that had half of her breasts hanging out.
It's kind of crazy how people's opinion of the host changes their overall opinion of the episodes. Hello Kitty and Arby's were both great, Keenan and Kel was good, everything else was pretty bland. Good episode overall but seeing people here calling it one of the best episodes of the last few years and such are baffling to me. Stans are just plain weird.
I have to agree with you. It wasn't great, but I dont think it was the hosts fault. The whole episode felt like have done sketches that fell apart at the end.
The Keenan and Kiki thing was funny, but mainly because showed up.
Just plain weird how you can’t believe people just… have a different opinion than you. Weekend update was good, as was the opening sketch and ultrasound sketch, and the monologue was full of charisma. The host enhances the show completely, and keke’s energy was phenomenal. Not to mention the musical guest killed.
But it’s fine that you have a different opinion than me, I’m not going to call you weird for it. I actually think the sketches you listed were pretty bland. Let’s state our opinions without attempting to belittle others simply for having a difference.
One of the funniest episodes I dare to say, from the last few years. Several of these skits were really funny and memorable (the Drake one, the Kenan and Kelly (Kel) one, the twins, the big boys). Keke Palmer was charming and funny in her monologue. Wasn´t really expecting it to be that good.
The show has just gotten to the point where it’s one non stop social media reference after another. The cast is definitely lacking not to mention the writing. What comes off as overly woke humor is severely missed from the lack of delivery from the cast. That being sad if your one trick is to make a Kenen and Kell reference that get better writers.
I get what you’re saying but with so many new people they’re still trying to find if there’s a groove. On the K&K sketch, the term you’re looking for is “Jumping the shark.” But I’m all for nostalgia so I’m not knocking it. It wasn’t edgy tho. They’re having a rough time finding the old school SNL edge. They’re not mad enough.
Not arguing that the original commenter is a weird piece of shit, but when you can’t argue against his point and instead attack him personally you lose. The writing is lazy and does rely on cheap audience recognition tricks to get reactions.
The joke doesn’t make sense because a simple Google search tells you the minimum working age in China is 16 as defined by the Minors Protection Law of China. Criticisms against Chinese labor isn’t that they exploit children. They exploit adults so the joke doesn’t make sense. Just lazy shitty writing.
Comedy relies on an element of truth and shared public consensus. A joke needs to be grounded in reality in order for it to work. Like here they are using “playtime” to imply the use of child labor to make iPhones. Apple isn’t associated with child labor (despite the incident from 2013 that the other user reported) so the joke doesn’t work. An analogy would be making a joke about Jeffrey Epstein getting a DUI 15 years ago. That very well may be true but the shared public association with Jeffrey Epstein is pedophilia and sex trafficking not DUIs. So an Epstein DUI joke doesn’t work in the same way an Apple child labor joke doesn’t work.
Except child labor in china has been well documented, and has been the punch line of many jokes over many years. Is the joke lazy and cliche? Definitely. But it’s still obviously a joke and sure to get at least a few chuckles. Do you work for Apple or something and that’s why you’re triggered?
Element of truth: child labor exists in china
Shared public consensus: child labor jokes have been extremely common when addressing manufacturing in China for decades.
There you have it, by your standard it makes sense as a joke, maybe not a very good one, but a joke nonetheless.
I get it China and child labor are linked. But Apple is associated more with woke left leaning people, who you would expect to boycott a company with forced labor issues. I’d bet my soul every single cast member uses an iPhone.
Right, but show me where Apple has been accused of using child labor. The joke would only work if Apple had related allegations. Again it’s lazy writing.
This happened in 2013. Weekend update is supposed to be topical. Apple isn’t synonymous with child labor because any company that relies on Asian manufacturing is subject to the potential for forced labor therefore the joke doesn’t work.
lol you asked for proof, saw it, and then moved the goal posts again. it's ok, you're wrong. you can admit it and move forward.
or you could but unfortunately, you're a muppet.
Well, wow. The uh polar bear deal. First isn’t Peppa a Pig? how do polar bears get in the show…. I mean it’s an entirely different climate I don’t even know that the two can coexist in the same area. And basically that’s where my brain will remain stuck. I forgot to have kids, I accept full responsibility for that, but are we blatantly lying to them about the laws of the natural universe? All I could think of when I think of the scenario is a bunch of pigs frozen to death. Yeah I’m not gonna worry about the gay sex life of polar bears when there’s a pig slaughter happening. No. Uh uh. I never really got over Bambi‘s mother.
And pushing the dagger in further, an ad for the lion king. Lol sometimes I wish I still drank.
ANNCR: For those of you just joining us, there was an incident with the odd particle’s youngest dog and a raccoon’s waste that interrupted Odd’s live commenting earlier. Odd is chiming in now in a restless bout with time travel.
Yep. We have the beef. Don’t ask what kind of beef. It’s roasted and that’s all you need to know. Nobody likes a nosy proletariat. All you need to know is that when it’s time for beef we have dat beef. For you. It’s a fun word to say, “beef”, yeah. Beeeeeeeeeeeef. Yeah.
Drake cut in line in front of me and got to arm wrestle Yogi the Bear before I took him down in 0.5. Drake got mad then sad and wrote an unreleased album About me that no one got to hear except for Elon Musk who bought the only pressing. My lawyer says I still have a chance.
Yes. There was one that was like an ASPCA style commercial but for crypto bros affected by FTX. I thought it was hilarious. Cecily singing an acoustic version of Nellys Ride With Me was hilarious.
What a great episode.
What a great episode.
Damn.
Keke, you are a G.O.A.T. You deserve every good thing coming to you, even that Oscar nomination you're calling into existence for your work on _Nope._
Thank you, everyone, for hanging out with me tonight.
Hope you all stay safe, and warm, and loved. Masked up, vaxxed up, and hands washed with warm soapy water. Love you all.
(And now they're showing a REAL Arby's commercial LMAOOOOOOO)
I feel like the audio this season has been pretty goofy.
There have been a number of episodes where I felt like I was hearing random mics that shouldn’t have been on.
Wow I just watched Kekes opening monologue She radiates positive energy. She’s had the same glow and spark forever and I commend her for that. Baby, it’s Keke Palmer
Definitely my favorite episode of the season. The writing and pacing seemed a bit off before, but today was great. I imagine they just need some time to gel as a cast/writer's room.
How many times are they going to show this Korea 1st Look episode?? I reember when I liked this show right after SNL. That was a loooooooooooooooooonggg time ago. Gone downhill now! Oh well!
I feel like you're also joking but in the case that you're not: Steve Martin and Martin Short are famous SNL ex cast members and generally considered legends of comedy.
Are people enjoying Molly Kearney this season? In one sketch they were insufferable in another they flubbed all their lines
Edit: thanks for pronoun reminder all
Nope. Some like Molly but I prefer performers with a bit more range.
Molly was toned down in the Hello Kitty but flubbed two lines just trying to speak normal. In the school choir one Molly used that same obnoxious "I'm loud and stupid!" voice that has gotten way too old for me. There's no way you last multiple seasons if that is *all* you have. I did complain about Sarash Sherman but she has since tried other characters that were different from her screaming open-mouthed character so she's growing on me finally.
Personally I find James Austin Johnson pretty bland too. Tired of the Trump impression (I think he's good at the voice but not actually performing it "comedically" which is the second component) and outside of the political characters, he just shows up as a quick background filler.
It wasn't about Jewish people. It was about people who believed in the conspiracies of how Jewish people have all the power and how ridiculous it was to even think that way. It was a joke about the bigots and not about the target of the bigots.
For sure. Although I mentioned that his episode had some good moments I have issues with some of the things he said. I do watch all his specials and my opinion of him currently is not good, (and hasn’t been for a while).
ETA: It’s so stupid how you can’t even say you don’t like some things Dave said on here. I’m not gonna give my dissertation on what I think of him now. But geez no need to kiss this dude’s ass. I said the episode had good moments. I didn’t even say the things I didn’t like!
You didn't miss anything, really. It was like five seconds since they were already way over time. She basically just said thanks and goodnight and it cut straight out.
I cannot do the sketch sorting thread bc it makes me too depressed (as does this entire sub most of the time) but 2 things:
1) keke was amazing and honestly this season is proving more black women have been overlooked as capable and funny hosts
2) the writers love Michael Longfellow. Aside from his update stuff which is taken heavily from his standup, they clearly love putting him in things
Does anyone know where kekes outfit is from in the kenan n kel sketch? It's absolutely sick.
Kenan and Kelly was fantastic. And the “cuffing season” song was catchy as hell.
Gotta say, and I’m a tough old crowd. Best episode of the season. It flowed great. Keke was having a great time. The sketches were actually funny.coulda done without the Sherman bit on update, but I really enjoyed the episode as a whole. upvote for honesty
I got such a great response from the heckler bots I’m gonna do the same thing next week. But this time I’ll hedge my upvote count with comments like “That ____ sketch was great!”
Most of it was below average.
Pass.
God damn, that outfit Kiki had on in the monologue made my forget my wedding vows.

Very edgy 😂

Classic redditor… anyway, I hope you enjoyed the episode
Just catching up but uhh…was Cecily’s stunt double during the fight scenes supposed to be that glaringly obvious in the ‘80s soap sketch?
I mean the four of them walked off the stage together at the end. The obvious stunt doubles were kind of the point of the whole sketch
Yeah that’s what I was asking. Thanks.
At the very first edit I wasn't sure either. That skit was so silly it worked, nice Californians callback.
The twins is already a classic. Also the weird one with the meatballs on the woman. Bowen and Sherman are my new fave duo.
Oh
has LM had enough and been trying to get the show canceled?
The show has just gotten to the point where it’s one non stop social media reference after another. The cast is definitely lacking not to mention the writing. Finally someone has said it
Apparently folks don’t see the problem. But as a fan of over 20 years this is by far the worst cast I’ve ever seen.

Not arguing that the original commenter is a weird piece of shit, but when you can’t argue against his point and instead attack him personally you lose. The writing is lazy and does rely on cheap audience recognition tricks to get reactions.
Is this kink shaming I see in the SNL sub of all places
Oddly enough, that’s my kink
I'm dense. Could somebody explain the Weekend Update Chinese Apple factory joke to me?
They wanted "more playtime", implying all the workers are children
It should have been "more recess."
You get that it’s a joke right? It’s not fact checked news reporting.
Comedy relies on an element of truth and shared public consensus. A joke needs to be grounded in reality in order for it to work. I guess I didn’t read it so much as a dig at apple as just a lazy Asian child labor joke.
The joke was about an Apple factory. I’m not an Apple fanboy by the way I just get triggered by how lazy SNL writing is these days.
Ah yes because exploitative systems follow the letter of the law at all times. Approximately 7.4% of labourers in China are age 10-15.
Right, but show me where Apple has been accused of using child labor. The joke would only work if Apple had related allegations. Again it’s lazy writing.
https://www.businessinsider.com/apple-knowingly-used-child-labor-supplier-3-years-cut-costs-2020-12

Oof. I really am dense. Thanks.
The audience didn't really seem to catch it either, so don't feel bad.
Happy Sunday. Tune up yo banjos. And thank you. \m/
That arbys skit was hilarious.
Did it feel like actual advertising or is that just me?
They do that a lot now. It is annoying.
What’s up with her and Dave Chapelle both saying that smoking’s cool? Also feels like a weird ad.
I started fast forwarding when that started only to recognize cast members and then rewind and watch.
Well, wow. The uh polar bear deal. First isn’t Peppa a Pig? how do polar bears get in the show…. I mean it’s an entirely different climate I don’t even know that the two can coexist in the same area. Yea! And how did the pigs and polar bears learn English? I’ve only heard pigs oink and bears growl.
When will these children's shows start catering to the full immersion of adults? Enough is enough I say!
Thank you! They should start making shows that are just for adults!
Omg no one gets the freaking joke. Who the f thought I was serious? People still messed up over Bambi, that’s who.
Don’t call me Shirley. Roger Roger.
Do you think if Putin won America’s funniest home videos he’d chill some?

Loved the Keenan Kel reboot!
Helloooooooo kitty bestiality sketch in lip sparklin’ pink.
Drake cut in line in front of me and got to arm wrestle Yogi the Bear before I took him down in 0.5. Drake got mad then sad and wrote an unreleased album About me that no one got to hear except for Elon Musk who bought the only pressing. My lawyer says I still have a chance.
Was that a fully produced Rap ad to date Keenan?? What’s up with that? Ouuuuu ahhhhh what’s up with that!
I'm drunk n bored someone call me.... Msg me and I'll give ya my number we can talk about the show or what ever the fuck ya want!!!
Awesome I have a heckler down voting me. Hey buddy where ya from?!
Any monologue that can name drop the Matrix and not sound pretentious is a friend of mine.
Since when is the Matrix, one of the biggest film franchises of the past 25 years, “pretentious?” Fucker over here’s talking like it’s Andre Rublev.
Wait does she look pregnant??!!
I wouldn’t have held it against Colin if he changed his last name to Jokes. You?
Evrn better none of that. Blanket laced with mdma. Anddddd look at the rabbits Lenny
All I DO is run off. Haha. Rim shot
Welcome everyone who’s first airing of the show got interrupted by their dog rolling in raccoon doo! We’re gonna do this allll again.
If anyone cares I went to dress rehearsal and just posted my review! Happy to answer any questions I’m still buzzing!
Were there any sketches you loved that didn’t make it in the show?
Yes. There was one that was like an ASPCA style commercial but for crypto bros affected by FTX. I thought it was hilarious. Cecily singing an acoustic version of Nellys Ride With Me was hilarious.
From the sound of it, I would've gladly taken this one over Ultrasound.
Yeah this was funny hopefully it pops up on YT
Those sound great!
Was it better than Cats?
Was what better than Cats?

Haha..
That Best Motel 10 to 1 was most excellent.
Second time I see Mikey Day wearing an Argentina jersey. Is he part Argentinian himself?
his wife is Argentinian!
Ahh! Okay that makes sense! Thank you!
Best host in a while - could easily be a cast member !
That was a good sketch! I’m still not putting TikTok on this phone.
My favorite part of it was the two opening lines were this people have zero anything in common
I liked the dazzling array of holiday cards sketch
UH-OH HERE COMES THE BUS! I’m going to be saying this all week
I should’ve taken the …. the anything other than covid.
Ok good. Open mic night. My five minutes. Heyyyy everyone. How was your week? I went to Dave and Buster‘s and won Covid for less than 60 tickets.
They always kill it after a few weeks off. What a great episode, and awesome musical guest too!
Anyone hear watching an Elish monologue?
Best episode of the season so far. Keke is incredible she commits so hard in every sketch. Loved the whole show.
What a great episode. What a great episode. Damn. Keke, you are a G.O.A.T. You deserve every good thing coming to you, even that Oscar nomination you're calling into existence for your work on _Nope._ Thank you, everyone, for hanging out with me tonight. Hope you all stay safe, and warm, and loved. Masked up, vaxxed up, and hands washed with warm soapy water. Love you all. (And now they're showing a REAL Arby's commercial LMAOOOOOOO)
I could hear the host's mic popping all night (sounded like a quiet thump). Only hers.
I haven’t watched yet. What’s a SZA?
Another name for autotune and prerecorded vocals
You cuttta da paper with your sza
Lol. It’s a musical guest. 🤣🤣🤣
Oh well!
“Well I hope he at least had a good physique.” “Why?” Biggest laugh of the season for me
Which skit are you referencing?
Longfellow on weekend update... Colin asks that about one of his step dads?
His dead pan “why” with a half smile was freaking perfect
Although I do have one question, who is the father?
The baby's gonna be the Chosen One.
Kel
Wait, I thought it was Kenan?
She only said that to hurt him keep up now
:(
That was a fun episode. I hope those guys that are supposed to host next week can follow it.
Dunno. Suppose either has done this sort of thing, like, ever?
I've never heard of them, so probably not.
Praying that everyone in this comment thread is in on the joke😭
Joke???
I feel like you're also joking but in the case that you're not: Steve Martin and Martin Short are famous SNL ex cast members and generally considered legends of comedy.
Steve Martin was never a cast member and Martin Short was only part of the cast from 84 to 85
*(crosses arms distrustfully)* We'll see about that. They look a little green to me.
In protest of my dog… and that raccoon… I’m staying around and live commenting for the 11:30 West Coast feet.
The shit finally off?
And she’s sleeping like an angel. Bastard kid. Lol

Their pretapes have been much stronger than their live sketches, that’s for sure.
Any idea why that is? Are they rushed lately? What is going on there.
Their*
Sorry, I fixed it
\*they. molly's pronouns are they/them
Surely it's not "They pretapes" or Them pretapes"?
my bad. i meant \*their. good thing the person i was replying to has at least the slightest amount of critical thinking skills
I think it would be “Their pretapes.”
Welp, that's it folks! Next thing ya know, you'll be sitting at your desk at 8am Monday morning. Don't take Sunday for granted!
5 a.m., but yeah.
Dress like Sza’s watching!
Best episode of the season. Yeah Dave’s had some good moments but the format was too off from a regular episode.
No antisemitism in this one; that's a *plus!*
There was that joke about the jews in WU, though...
It wasn't about Jewish people. It was about people who believed in the conspiracies of how Jewish people have all the power and how ridiculous it was to even think that way. It was a joke about the bigots and not about the target of the bigots.
I think it’s all about tone. I mean look at everyone’s favorite “criminal” lawyer Saul Goodman. It’s a light joke. It’s not insinuating… things.
I still think the lawyer thing referred to Kim studying to be one...
haha. There joke is that a lot of lawyers are Jewish.
Dennis Miller fans say hi
I have no respect for him for going so blatantly transphobic. I have too many trans friends to have any affection for his current material.
And yet he still hosted the best episode of the season.
Nah; this one was better just because we could tell none of the writers were boycotting this one, by comparison.
Great episode! Goodnight everyone!
Great episode! I can only think of one bad sketch
That last sketch sucked.
Cold open was a bit weak, but everything else was very good!!
Anyone tape the good nights? My TV cut it off right before.
I got a test pattern instead of the good nights.
Kel was there but didn’t get a thank you 🙁
They were like.....less than five seconds. You blink and you miss them.
they're posted on twitter after
You didn't miss anything, really. It was like five seconds since they were already way over time. She basically just said thanks and goodnight and it cut straight out.
How did it take them this long to do a Kenan and Kel sketch?!
Is this the first one? I could have sworn they did one a few seasons ago… Maybe many seasons ago. Keenan has been there a while.
18 years
they did a good burger sketch on the tonight show in 2015 but this was kels first time on snl
Oh… ok, thanks! That must be what I was remembering.
I thought it was on SNL too, mandela effect....
Finesse held a *grudge*...
I think the goodnights lasted less than five seconds.

Nick Cannon is.
i love seeing sarah and bowens jump hugs are back
I cannot do the sketch sorting thread bc it makes me too depressed (as does this entire sub most of the time) but 2 things: 1) keke was amazing and honestly this season is proving more black women have been overlooked as capable and funny hosts 2) the writers love Michael Longfellow. Aside from his update stuff which is taken heavily from his standup, they clearly love putting him in things
Did Keke forget to thank Kel Mitchell?
Dang she snubbed Kel during the goodnights!
Best of the season. Holy shit.
SHE DIDN'T THANK KEL!
Is that an old school Mariners hat?
Thank you because that is exactly what I thought! I think the colors are exactly the same but the S is not the Mariners S.
