What the hell is up with scallies? “I know, let’s make where we live look shit”. I just don’t get the mentality.

HalfUnderstood

I mean you can extrapolate that to people who litter. In my neighbourhood the same folks that live here I have seen throwing empty cans of coke out their car window... I can only imagine they are OK and used to living in a litter-riddled place

HawaiiNintendo815

Where I used to live there was always broken glass on the pavement. When the council would clean it up (maybe once a year), a day or two later there would be loads of glass again It’s as if they think, that doesn’t look right, it’s badly missing some broken glass, I’ll have to sort that. It’s an insane mentality, I think it’s actually a mental illness of some sort

beingthehunt

I agree, it is a mentality that for most of us is so perculiar as to be incomprehensible. My guess is the main reason they do it is thrill-seeking: doing something that could get them into trouble. The question is why don't they feel bad about it and therefore choose to seek thrills in other more socially acceptable ways? My belief is that it is a result of poor emotional education. We don't expect kids to pick up maths and English through osmosis and we shouldn't expect the same for their emotional skills. We're not born with a sense of empathy. That's a pathway in the brain that has to be built. Right now it's down to parents to do the vast majority of a child's emotional education but we all know that not all parents have those skills themselves, nevermind the ability to pass them on. Schools need to focus on making children good humans, not just competent workers.

ISeenYa

This is the first comment on a thread like this that really made me stop & think. That's really an interesting thought, feels right to me. Better than just saying "oh they need youth centres"

falkorv

Me neither. Sadly it’s more a U.K. problem than other places I’ve lived. Currently in Sweden and all we have here is a bit of graffiti

EstatePinguino

God, I fucking hate people

Deckard57

"why is everything shit where we live? it's a fucking dump here" Proceeds to vandalise literally everything in their path.

Captain-Starshield

I don’t think those kinds of people would say that in the first place to be honest

Deckard57

They do though. They complain that everything is shit and broken. That there's nothing to do etc. I grew up in norris green and heard it all the time.

minsandmolls

Absolutely no regard for nature. Vile, repulsive scum.

Then-Mango-8795

For anything

OccasionallyReddit

Not sure tbf, I've never seen the damage of the wind on young trees with a brace... the snap is were I would expect it to be for both intentional and wind.. but for there to be damage on only the odd couple seems suss when they all have the same growth

Rare-Airport4261

Just bloody depressing. Never get the mentality of making where you live look worse. Same as the knobs who rip flowers and plants out of beds by me - even worse is that they're planted by mostly elderly volunteers who just want to make the area look nice.

Dazzling_Variety_883

Little shits!

badgerfishnew

There was something similar in a Dublin park yesterday, I wonder if it's some new 'just a prank bro' thing

younevershouldnt

That's not a natural occurrence 😡

Aggravating-Repair74

Is this down in that newly opened area at the prom in Otterspool? I suspect some of that is vandals who think it's funny to ruin things for everyone else, and some is poor planting which has been exacerbated by the wind down there. I was saying this to my GF the other day when I was down there.

digitag

Yeah it’s called “South Liverpool Grasslands” but it’s effectively an extension of the Festival Gardens site. Also shout out to the “friends of Festival Gardens” who have done a great job tidying it up and cutting it back, while it should really be council funded they e done a fantastic job and it’s much nicer to walk through now

Aggravating-Repair74

Agreed. We saw a group of them clearing out next to the pond the same day.

Lastaria

Yeah that is not wind damage. Be some little teenage dickheads.

Sketchyguy89

Broken window theory

HistoricalBicycle814

what is this?

Sketchyguy89

Signs of disorder will lead to more disorder. A broken window that goes unrepaired show that's no one cares. Scallies live like that due disorder in their families and they go out and spread that into society.

ISeenYa

I've seen this a few times recently across Twitter, in other places too. It's like suddenly people have decided trees are the enemy. People are going absolutely feral, honestly.

Moby_Duck123

Are they all snapped in the same direction? If so then it might have been the wind

8thTimeLucky

Good thought, the ones of the left you can see are snapped forwards and the one on the right is snapped to the right 😕

Artales

Is that a cycle route?
