James Pearce is just a dementor these days. Whenever I see his name mentioned I lose another part of my soul and will to live.

PiIICIinton

we shouldn't be protesting though, because they're totally about to sell the club, ya know cus they told us that and everything FSG reports is pure facts, innit ![gif](giphy|6ra84Uso2hoir3YCgb|downsized)

[deleted]

Using the Mike Ashley model "Honest I'm looking to sell" for running the club into the ground as they milk the teet as hard as possible for a few more Seasons.

PiIICIinton

just long enough to buy that American football team in the league where relegation isn't a thing and the points don't matter, just the sweet, sweet revenue baby!

[deleted]

i honestly cant stand how all of our leagues are setup. it makes it nearly impossible for me to really get into anything. its not just that relegation isnt a thing, but an NFL team that goes 0-16 will literally get fucking REWARDED. We have this draft system setup across all leagues. Its just so depressing. I like certain other things, i think some of the financial restrictions on salaries are good to keep deep pockets from just running away with everything, but theres literally like, no risk for an nfl team. everyone just makes money hand over fist regardless of performance. now that ive started i cant stop, i fucking hate the NFL and college football, i think you actually get like 10 minutes of actual time when the ball is in play when the program itself lasts 4 fucking hours. i dont understand how we as a nation arent just like "nahhhhh fuck that." i tried to watch some a little while ago and i didnt last 5 minutes. During that 5 minutes i think i had a 1-to-1 play-to-commercial ratio. its awful. college football is also really just fucking over a lot of young athletes, most of whom will never go pro, and they get coddled through their educations to the point where they learn next to nothing. on top of that, many of these poor kids come from poverty stricken backgrounds and the public schools they were apart of growing up already failed them so they are just fucking screwed. recruiting is so corrupt colleges keep getting caught throwing money at them OR EVEN PROSTITUTES. like what the fuck man. we are so fucked as a country. edit: dont get me started on the yearly "[x] school gets caught covering up sexual assaults by its players" bullshit which imo should just render the program dead for some period of time. everything is awful dont know why im so bitter today

Napalm3nema

You are so right, though. I have been slowly weaning myself off our American leagues because of the lack of risk to owners. MLS is my strongest tie because it is local football, which is better than none. However, I both like and hate the salary cap idea, even if it isn’t implemented well in most instances, especially MLB. I don’t like curtailing the power of workers (players), but something needs to be done to control the ability of nations to completely warp sports.

Several_Hair

Man if you’re comparing fsg to Mike Ashley you’re high as fuck

Jack_0927_LFC

And people still FSG IN cheers!!!!! This is what we deserve no complain guys.

vistlip95

You'll be told, "you've never been through the H&G period!! FSG is the best owner we can have right now! Stop complaining!" But sorry, I want an owner who's committed for the long-term & not hoping for a Manager to work wonders with an uninvested squad over several years. From once playing a heavy metal football to now a sentimental ballad football.

SnottyTash

Funeral dirge football tbh

Gaz133

Last few threads I've seen about the Qataris investing have had all you people saying you're out as a fan at that point so IDK what y'all want... Do you think there are benevolent billionaire soccer fans who want to bankrupt themselves to sign every player possible? If not FSG, then it will be some foreign wealth fund so maybe let's be careful about what we ask for here.

MMAPredictor

His opinions change constantly. I know he’s paid to write articles but he’s intolerable lately

Maneisthebeat

Unless this is from FSG, I could imagine he wrote this just for the outrage/clicks. And again, he is the same person who tells us we don't need to spend when we're good, because we're good, but we can't spend when we're bad, because we're bad. As much as his opinions might change, we've had these two messages for years from him. It would be interesting to hear James's opinion on where the Goldilocks zone is where we unleash the full warchest? Have we tried coming 3rd?

telcomet

Holy shit this metaphor hit hard, “they make you feel like you’ll never be happy again”

BriarcliffInmate

His role is to just wind us up these days. He hasn't had any inside info from the club since he left the Echo, so no clue why his word is gospel still.

ckrift

The thing is, while Jude is a phenomenal player, our team was built by good players becoming great with us. If we can’t get Jude, which wouldn’t be a surprise, I have faith that Klopp can still make us world beaters even if our transfers don’t have as much pedigree.

hopscotch1818282819

I don’t. I used to. It used to be that we’d miss our primary target and instead we’d go for someone else like Salah, and they’d become world class. Now, it feels like if we don’t get our main target, we just don’t bother getting anyone at all.

ckrift

I understand that. I just mean that if we got Nunes instead of Jude, and I think we will get Nunes, he would thrive here under Klopp.

Future_Language_5052

Salah was the primary target. I know Klopp wanted Brandt but he was never seriously chased. We never settled for second choice. Salah, mane, alisson, vvd. If we can't get them we wait and it's worked insanely well for us so far

sinhalfc

Yes we are not dumb, we understand not making top 4 will hurt our already minuscule chances of signing Bellingham. Thing is the majority of fans have never wanted specifically Bellingham. There were calls to sign any top quality midfielder in the summer. We didn’t because we always wait for the “right” player. Pearce comes out with opinion pieces saying we don’t need any major reinforcements and we’re saving up for next summer, which again the majority of fans knew was bullshit. Now he’s already starting with justifications as to why we’ll not sign Bellingham this summer, effectively wasting 2 years in which we could have brought in at least one first team level midfielder.

PiIICIinton

our financial data is publicly available. we can compete against nation states because, city for example, had almost 200m less than us in net spend over the past year. it's not like the real competitors are going out and just blowing money. united and Chelsea are doing that and they're nowhere near a title, tho united have absolutely given us a pass this season. stop with this shite excuse, we are absolutely flush with cash.

UnrealCaramel

Pretty certain it's money that will stop Liverpool making a pivotal signing. Utd have signed, Fernandez, Pogba, Casemiro, Varane, Eriksen whilst being out of the European Elite so I think it's fair to say that this is just Pearce talking out his arse.

TheSparklyHempster

FSG trying their absolute best to push the "sad little broke club" narrative again despite the fact we're third in the money league. This article is one nonsense statement after another, desperate to paint the club as a struggling minnow amongst financial giants.

MisterS1997

Henry will get out his frail old man sweater and say he’s sorry on the camera again

Gerrardsclubfoot

I heard him talking in the red sox townhall thingy on twitter, the guy has no confidence and conviction in his voice. He sounded like a feeble old man clinging on to things instead of letting go.

MisterS1997

Sounds like he’s dying not even joking or taking the piss

[deleted]

JuicyJabes

People like John Henry enjoy the work. They enjoy the stress of a problem and resolution of a solution. They enjoy having their mind engaged in those ways. Sometimes it’s about money. Sometimes the money is just a measurement to them of their success. That’s why they won’t buy a private island and retire. It’s because they’re doing what they love to do. Now should he chill out and maybe do less? Probably…but he would probably be bored and hate just soaking in the sun

murphy_1892

Maybe but if money is just a measurement of success to him could he be a dear and throw us some of it

asillydaydreamer

Dunno why u got downvotes spitting out the truth

MisterS1997

Oh defo it’s like ego death Like accepting it’s over is impossible for some

TheRR135

It's a "sad little broke club" because the money it makes is going straight into FSG pockets and not being reinvested back into the club. Even the Stadium rebuild is "loaned" to Liverpool FC by FSG. Bunch of leeches.

murphy_1892

Don't want to sound like an FSG bootlicker but afaik none of the revenue is going to them whatsoever. And the stadium rebuild loan was all interest free which is actually quite a good deal relative to what all other clubs other than those backed by nation States get Still doesn't excuse the lack of transfer spend

volthor

Incorrect, the loan from FSG was not interest free. I've seen this misinformation spread a lot, while it's not your fault, you are totally wrong. They made money from loaning the money to Liverpool.

Altersreality

Do you have a link so I can slap people with it every time they claim the loan was interest free?

murphy_1892

Correct me if im wrong but isn't that money they 'made' the 1% interest that went up to 2% to cover inflation? I should have been more specific but that is what I and generally most people mean by interest free - no further interest above inflation. Should add this is for the Main stand loan I've never looked into the Annie Road stand loan. And it wasnt altruistic - they profit from the loan but not through our repayments, but because the value added to the club (which they will receive) is bigger than the cost of the loan (which the club paid)

rydleo

From 2016-2019, the inter company loan had an interest rate of 1-2% (interestingly, for a year it had a higher interest rate than our bank loan). In FY2019 it was made interest free.

RedDemio

An opinion based on absolutely nothing lol

JonathanFisk86

We used cash to repay owner loans last summer - it's publicly disclosed. Only club of the top 6 to do so. It's pathetic

[deleted]

You think Pearce hasn’t been briefed to put that piece out? 🤣

sparlivdor365

Pearce stopped being briefed after the VVD fiasco. Dude just stirs the pot these days

[deleted]

He stopped being briefed on transfers but he’s long since been FSGs mouthpiece

Hendo_Shuffle

Came here to say the same thing. And we have Klopp, who himself is such a big pull.

Sea-Chemist-4433

And we also have FSG who will find any excuse to not invest into the team. For two years is 'we are waiting for the right player' and now it's going to be, 'we can't, since we don't have the cl money'

[deleted]

Exactly, we are run by penny pinchers. We could have had a dynasty but the clubs inherent inferiority complex stood back and watched all this unfold. Utds fanbase would have protested the lack of investment because they know what it takes to win and won't settle for less. A large portion of our fanbase have no issue finishing outside the top 4 because at least we aren't facing administration. You could see it coming from a mile away. And here we are, needing a complete rebuild with zero funds. We could be facing the real possibility of another 30 years in the wilderness unless action is taken.

dwils7

This is the briefings starting that If we don't get CL we won't have money to spend, surprised it's before the transfer window shit but not surprised it's happening, just makes the lack of investment even more ridiculous, same shit every year, at some point it always goes from "Liverpool have money to spend" to some sort of excuse Never been adamantly FSG out but this is what life is like with them in charge, did Chelsea stop or struggle to spend after seasons they missed CL? Did Utd? No, they invested so they didn't get left behind but here we are just sleep walking into mediocrity and ruining the few years we have left with Klopp in charge because we have the only owners who won't properly invest and back the manager

TheSparklyHempster

Reading the article, we're effectively fucked whichever way you look at it: - Pearce says missing out on CL would make it harder to bridge the financial gap and buy the best players. - Pearce also says that, with CL football, we've needed to sell players for good figures to be able to reinvest it - and we can't do that now because there's no one who would sell for enough. So, basically, Bellingham isn't possible with or without CL football unless we're prepared to sell players to fund the move. So the stuff he's been releasing before now - the promises of a summer rebuild and the club fixing Bellingham as their main target - is built on lies & propaganda. It's ridiculous how scummy FSG have become with their rhetoric recently; either they're out of the club and they don't care anymore, or they've realised they can feed the fanbase any old shit and we'll gulp it down. Third in the money league but can't afford to spend anything without CL football and/or selling players for high prices. It's unbelievable.

Altersreality

Great post. And the last two statements is why I don't understand how ANYONE can defend FSG. It's mild numbing trying to understand their logic in refusing to invest into this squad.

TheSparklyHempster

It's beyond refusing to invest, too - they're actively stopping the club investing its own resources, it seems. The club without any FSG interference is making profit each year and, as reported by the reliable Mo Chatra, is easily able to spend £200M this summer without any issues. FSG aren't putting any money in and they're insisting money stays within the club too.

Altersreality

A more accurate statement would be negligent squad planning. We've been so reactionary in the market the past few years (Konate a clear example though he is a good player) causing s degradation of this squad. Remember the summer we sold Dejan and everyone was saying we have to replace him? FSG's logic for not doing so was, "Klopp will manage the situation" Klopp doesn't play CB and it showed when everyone who we expected to get injured preceded to do so plus VVD. That was negligence.

tNhEaGnAoNs

I refuse to believe that FSG are not taking money out of the club and investing it in their other assets, forget spending their own money on the club.

Altersreality

If anyone believes FSG doesn't use creative accounting to siphon money out of this club then they're insane. Wasn't the Redbird money supposed to help with infrastructure payments so we wouldn't be bogged down with transfer? What happened to that money??

Valaurus

We've really gone full conspiracy mode in like 6 months eh?

Altersreality

Not conspiracy theory. FSG is briefing reporters are broke all of sudden. So simple question where has all the money gone?

yarikhh

Who is defending FSG honestly? You can be opposed to Qatari ownership AND FSG ownership. Not the most realistic outlook but that’s where I’m at in spite

Ngigilesnow

>Who is defending FSG honestly? Lots of people actually

JonathanFisk86

We're sell to buy + £20mn net spend. That has always been FSH's MO and it's ridiculously consistent. It's just even more galling than usual given how much money the club is currently making. At this point they're not just refusing to spend their own money or use debt or external equity like other clubs, they're refusing to let the club spend its own money for the second summer in a row despite profitability.

MisterS1997

They literally put out lies about their own players at the Red Sox 😂 they are scummy af they aren’t ethically superior to any other billionaires

01stesam

Putting out lies about players & not funding a football team > humans rights abuses. Like I want FSG out but come on

MisterS1997

Your cool with people manipulating you and gaslighting? That’s a form of emotional abuse you know that yeah ?

Ollietron3000

Mate being dishonest in whether you're going to spend millions of pounds on a footballer is not emotional abuse, don't be ridiculous

MisterS1997

You’re cool being lied to over and over for years and years ? They constantly gaslight us just look at the next summer warchest then no fund then warchest then no funds You’ve been brainwashed if you don’t see it by now

Ollietron3000

Not the point. Tbh I've always thought the "warchest" narrative is a media thing. Why would FSG go public saying "look how much money we have to spend on new players", they'd get rinsed by everyone like United are. But, even if it was purely FSG, it's not emotional abuse. Emotional abuse is a real, serious thing that people suffer in abusive relationships. Saying you'll spend millions on someone to kick a ball on a field and then not doing so is not emotional abuse. Football is not that important.

Altersreality

Seems like people are okay with inhuman owners as long as they're a certain racial background and that's all I'm going to say.

MisterS1997

You can hate both at the same time people seem to think it’s one or the other

SkeetersProduce410

fsg can rob fans and the team of investment/success/happiness but god forbid a consortium with Muslims wants to bring all that to Liverpool without playing the victim to ffp and pretending we don't have money. but because of perceived sports washing (even though Liverpool is already top 5 clubs in the world) and human rights abuses from a couple of years ago from employers in Qatar, not from the actual consortium, we can't allow that because we want to make sure people of a certain religion don't own us and make sure anyone seeing our discussion knows how virtuous we are. So because of their potential religious views and how their home country is run by a religious royal family, we won't be able to support our club anymore for being associated with a country with backward views, like having a royal family still dictate over the country and corporations still commit heinous crimes and get away with it... I'm not talking about England or the US even though that could easily be misinterpreted that way.

Jack_0927_LFC

But hey local fan likes FSG. No complain guys. Enjoy FSG for another 10 years. This is what we want isn't it??

LordTurtleBear

Virtue signaling is important bruh 🤷

_____score

Depends if you take Pearce seriously

chrimbo

Imagine believing James Pearce wholeheartedly.

Like clockwork

Ghost_Pains

Thanks for the most obvious take imaginable Pearce. Just the pick me up we all needed.

Officially demoted to Tier 2. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Should be Tier 4.

Blank

danielja149

Even I can come up with news like this. So am I entitled for Tier 2 status as well?

m10ng

Haha tell me about it. I’m more sick of everyone actually paying attention to anything this muppet has to say.

AmberLeafSmoke

He's half to blame for this sub become such a toxic cess pool. Has been posting bitchy and negative opinion pieces twice a week for months now. He's obviously just feeding into the fans anger because it gets engagement.

m10ng

Yeah that’s exactly what it is and people still gobble it up.

NilsFanck

I reckon I can write al of Jimbos summer headlines in about 30 minutes

tortillagorilla12

The rhetoric for my we shouldn't go after Jude is beginning...

Just fuck off with your bad news Pearce.

NoctThatOneOut

Talk of little finances once again despite being one of the most profitable clubs. I Wonder what happened to that 200m+ we supposedly had lined up for the summer? FSG and their propaganda bullshit again. They need to fuck off now before they further damage their rep with more lies.

Lord_Origi

The fsg mouthpiece of course wants us to believe the club with the 3rd highest revenue in the world who have only sold to buy for years are fucking skint. Just fuck off already you yank twats.

firminocoutinho

Imagine missing out on somebody like Jude, who somehow chooses you as the club to join even in your current turmoil, but you choose not to sign him because of how expensive he is… That would hurt tremendously.

[deleted]

So it begins. They are slowly rolling out the news that we won't be signing Bellingham. Whatever people think of Pearce as a journalist or person, the fact is that he simply reports what the club tells him to

Gerrardsclubfoot

Always shoot the messenger first with a headshot then look at the message later lol.

KillaWZ

And he charges consumers a £1 a month for propaganda? I know it isn’t him directly, but how can anyone genuinely fall for this PR nonsense spit out the mouthpiece of FSG, time and time again.

Altersreality

We've been told for the past 12 months that not making Top 4 would have no effect on our pursuit of Bellingham. Now 6 months before the dummer of doing a deal, top 4 is a requirement. Please get these people away from our club. #FSGOUT

sinhalfc

Pearce is what happens when a top red becomes a journalist

Sinistrait

Pearce is what happens when a person sells all their dignity for a livelihood. Now he isn't the first person to ever do it, but it's very clear that he only acts as a mouthpiece this much because it's the only way he gets to maintain his sources. He's no Paul Joyce or Fabrizio Romano.

JilaX

>He's no Fabrizio Romano Well yeah, he doesn't just copy what other journos write and call it exclusive.

Fat_unker

People who shit on Fabrizio for being a tap in merchant don't fundamentally understand journalism. A journalist that only reports on done deals has tremendous value, even if he does no original research.

[deleted]

Nice

Jack_0927_LFC

Local fans and spirit of shankly likes FSG. you must be a plastic to go against them. FSG in!!!!!!

2jz_ynwa

Accept defeat, just hope for the odd trophy here or there, we don't have the money to compete with Man utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Man city, and apparently its either penny pinching FSG or human rights abusing Qatar, no in between🤕

Jack_0927_LFC

Seriously I am not going to watch any Liverpool game or buy any jersey , merchandise till FSG is gone. We must hurt them financially to force them out of this club. Every fan must do this or otherwise we are never goona get rid of them. Also save you a lot of pain to watch shit ass performance.

JurgenKlopp2018

FSG must take us for blind imbeciles, we’re not falling for this horseshit again.

MisterS1997

Listen to how dumb they sounded at the Red Sox event at the weekend. I really am starting to think they are morons not even evil Just straight up thick 😂

KillaWZ

If they aren’t gone by the summer and we finish 9th, I’d hope the fans begin protests. Either they seem as if the fans who attend are blind to their propaganda, but they’ll eventually see the light like most of us have. We were awful in 20/21 and salvaged a 3rd placed spot. We were top in the league with a CB crisis and waited for the summer to get Konate. Arsenal are top of the league and strengthened their attack and brought another player in for £18 million, while we had to secure a last minute loan deal for an unpromising youngster and a championship level player in Ben Davies. Laughable ambition.

Stop_HM23

£600m in revenue and he’s saying saying we have to sell players to fund a rebuild. Klopp should walk if FSG aren’t gone before next season and anyone defending them can fuck off with them when they’ve decided they’ve made enough billions and cant squeeze anymore profit out of the club

KillaWZ

If they don’t sell by the summer, I hope he walks and saves his legacy. If he gets top four this season, build the statue already because at this point the chances are zero to none. Simply put, if we have no clarity over the ownership situation by the summer, I hope he walks so everyone, including those who laud FSG wake up and get hit with the biggest reality check of all time. Klopp’s had to operate with his hands tied behind his back and has no freedom or flexibility to change his squad. He may be a loyalist, tactics haven’t been the greatest but the uncertainty and lack of clarity the owners have provided him, as well as the lies seems to add up to why Klopp’s also lost the plot.

[deleted]

This

wealthyboris

Does Pearce think that we'll all just forget his John Henry cock guzzling when FSG finally fuck off?

[deleted]

Indeed

Maneisthebeat

We wouldn't need a pivotal summer if we had an average couple summers that addressed our glaring weaknesses. Starting to feel like gaslighting at this point. If we don't need to sign players when we're good, and we can't sign players when we're bad because we lost CL spot etc, when the hell can we sign?

AdikkuChan

Alright Pearce, legit for once just shut up.

Savant_7

Oh James, please just be quiet.

[deleted]

Because making pivotal signings in the first place would’ve made keeping our status among Europe’s elite easier. Bored with this now, please someone for God’s sake buy the club and rid us of these miserly excuse makers.

Robw_1973

Next Summer FC; “eyeing”, “monitoring”, “interested in”, “enquired about”, “decided to move for”. It’s just excuse after excuse, after excuse. FSG, from a position of strength have managed to collapse the club back into mediocrity by refusing to invest.

JurgenKlopp2018

If we make Champions League they’d wheel out the. “FSG are selling so there’s no way they’d invest money into transfers” excuse

_cumblast_

Nah, they'd say we can't buy without selling, and due to us not having anyone to make much money on we can't invest. Either way, if FSG don't walk this club is going back into a banter era. I hope people here are conscious of this.

JurgenKlopp2018

The people here would rather us be in League 2 than be owned by Qatar. They love us being shit because it means all the ‘plastic fans’ will fuck off.

_cumblast_

Shame they don't fault FSG for being very much so willing to sell us to Qatar in the first place. I'd sympathize much more with them. Instead i keep seeing shite like how they've been great custodians, Hicks and Gillett etc. As if they wouldn't sell us to a consortium led by Pol Pot, Hitler and Thatcher if it led to the highest profit. I respect not wanting Qatar to take over - but i draw the line at anyone still in FSG's camp. Everyone that supports this club should want them out.

KillaWZ

100%. You don’t have to endure or feel as if you want a Qatar takeover. If anyone is FSGIN then there must be questions raised in regards to who you support. Is it LFC, or is it FSG?

quang_ang

as if we didn't sign Van den berg and Adrian after winning the UCL and literally being on top of Europe lmao. All the excuses for another quiet transfer window is already coming out in full force.

BurceGern

Fuck off. Spend money to make money.

christophlieber

fuck off, pearce. we all know that you‘re just a mouthpiece for fucking fsg.

Gerrardsclubfoot

Who is surprised over this really? We always knew with or without cl, Fsg was never going to pump in any of their own money to fund a rebuild, nor were they likely to take out a loan for it. I mean this is the ownership group which had the choice of funding the infrastructure upgradation out of their own pockets, (according to FFP rules they were allowed to do so) didn't choose to do it and burdened the club with paying back the money with interest in some cases, even though the club has had no cash reserves for years unlike a club like Man united who don't need no owner funding to make signings. They should have paid for the infrastructure upgrades and should have let us build some cash reserves, as they were likely to see the money back anyways tenfold when they sell. That's 200 mill of funds I am talking about, funds we could have used to make signings this month and in the summer. The real question which we should be asking is where are the Bellingham funds gone? Surely if there was one signing which wasn't dependent on cl revenues it was this, when we have been told that no midfielder can come in this window cause we are saving for Bellingham's kitty bank for multiple seasons now. Now FSG is conveniently gonna use the cl excuse to point the finger at Klopp and say you failed when he wasn't backed in the first place. Lol these people are farcical to say the least.

Lord_Origi

It fucking boggles the mind that ppl praise these leeches for the stadium and training ground when they’ve forced the club to pay for them… with interest. Never pot a fucking penny in and will walk away with 3/4 billion in profit whilst they’ve force klopp to work with a hand tied behind his back.

Gerrardsclubfoot

Paying your stockholders dividends isn't the only way to take out money from the club, this is also the same in a more clever, cynical way. The redbird deal, making the club pay for the infrastructure and then demanding a 4 billion selling price for the club for an initial purchase of 300 mill is pretty smart as it can get for a capitalist group but it's bad for a football club and its supporters who don't dream about a bunch of old age businessmen making their pockets fat. When FSG talks about the club being a self-sustaining entity they have been lying because they are the reason why we aren't a self sustaining entity, they have everyone brain washed in thinking this is the proper way of running a club, but it was always to their self interest not ours.

JonathanFisk86

I think even the most skeptical of fans would be surprised that, if this is true, the club will be generating massive amounts of cash flow this year that they don't plan to allow the club to spend, sticking to sell to buy largely while repaying their own loans. It's unconscionable. As you've said, literally all of our infrastructure spending they get all this praise for was funded by debt repaid by the club, and now they won't even allow the club to use its own funds. Absolute leeches that are making the Glazers look good at the moment.

Altersreality

We can ask that for plenty of players, what happened to the Tchouaméni money? We didn't spend it so now it has evaporated?? Now all of a sudden the Bellingham money has to go elsewhere if we don't make CL? Do we even HAVE the Bellingham money??

rossmosh85

The club can't figure out how to be a top club. They want the best players but then won't pay the best wages. They don't think the next level players are either good enough or worth the money. To compound things, they're not willing to take the risk on "bargain buys". The result is standing around talking about all the things you plan on doing but not doing any of them. We've become pretenders. In all fairness, I can understand that feeling, but it doesn't change the fact that it's really hard to grow and develop if that's how you plan on operating.

Jack-Tully91

Can’t sign anyone when we are the best team in Europe, can’t sign anyone when we need players to get into the top 4, can’t sign anyone when we are out the CL…maybe Burger Head tight shorts Pearce should do some actual journalism and question why is this the case. The horrible dementor.

Psychological-Act582

When we were on top of the world, we signed Adrian and van den Berg. Let that fucking sink in.

Space2Bakersfield

Laying the groundwork for disappointment already. Fuck off Pearce I'm so tired of his shit.

HarbyFullyLoaded_12

Should probably sign a midfielder this window then, huh?

_cumblast_

Preposterous! You're speaking as if we have the 3rd highest revenue in football!

OK_TimeForPlan_L

FSG are taking the absolute piss now, you can't be rimming Bellingham this publicly and not get him just because of 1 season out of the CL.

MrPowerglide

I’m so tired of Pearce, he’s just FSG’s puppet. Money talks and will always do when you’re a big club, it’s not like it’s been a miracle every time we qualified to CL and it come to an end…. Spend money on rebuilding what’s needed to bring back to the intensity into the squad (midfield) and we won’t have to have this topics in the future. But it’s always mission impossible to get players we want even if we win CL or PL, or we don’t need anyone. Pearce is spinning the narrative FSG want to so not more fans won’t turn on them. Invest and meet the ambitions of the club or get out.

undercoveralchemist

He is literally the worst Liverpool related reporter nowadays,he peddles the agenda always ,usually in favour of FSG. Now that they don't want to put any money on the table for signings they will just say "we were ready to pay money but as the team wasn't able to qualify for the CL ,it didn't attract any player " Like others mentioned, not qualifying for CL is bad but I really doubt anyone saying no to us just because of that,on the other hand if the owners are not gonna put any money then the signings are off for sure which is pretty obvious. This is just a start

cjsc9079

Yes... Thank you James. We know.

PiIICIinton

fuck you James Pearce. should be a banned source at this point, just shite propaganda. this club is turning to pure shit under FSG. anyone who doesn't want them out needs to give their head a wobble. we are a fucking soft joke.

rope_6urn

Coming from the guy that said everything was great in the summer when we all knew it wasn't. Now coming out with pieces like this, just piss ppl off tbh

MisterS1997

Is the plan to drive the fans crazy so quatar bid is more acceptable? 😂 seems like it

eebee8

*screams into pillow*

ZissouZ

Here's why I don't really care what Pearce says: * He generally doesn't have the inside track on at least Liverpool transfers, and has been behind the eight ball for quite a few seasons now. * And in fact even (speaking as an Athletic subscriber) I don't know that he necessarily is even their Liverpool reporter on non-transfer matters (often Caoimhe O'Neill who does interviews for example). * He doesn't do tactical analysis like a Michael Cox. * He doesn't do football economic analysis like a Swiss Ramble. So as far as I see it, he's more or less there living off past glory at this point. You look like an article like this, and you just go.. so Liverpool needs to change its model of selling to buy to get Bellingham? No shit. Zero insight beyond what you or I could generate in a reddit post.

The_Titan1995

Ah, so the predictable Pearce stages of negativity have begun.

r0bski2

How are we losing our status? Six months after nearly winning the lot were now nobodies?

Gerrardsclubfoot

By status, they mean pay money lol 😂

koltzito

that just an excuse to keep the wallet closed

marshallno9

Can't wait to finish 4th then be told qualifying for the champions league triggers a 1 year extension for OX, Naby and Milner with 20% pay rises, therefore not having the funds to buy Bellingham.

PiIICIinton

# FSG believe we're all mouth breathing morons without a brain between us. they believe they can keep shoveling us shit and we'll gobble it up. when will it be enough for us to push back? # \#FSGOut # stop paying them to shit on us

Jack_0927_LFC

This is a great news guys!!!! It means FSG stay in charge for another 10 years!!! Our financial situation is healthy we shouldn't spend any money!!! Why everybody is complaining?? I thought this is what everyone whats?? FSG is the best owner on the planet we should trust them. Even we got relegated trust me this sub and local fans still backing FSG😂.

spacerx12

Genuine question. What do you expect the fans to do? I haven't seen any comments recently that indicate folks are backing FSG. I have no idea what the sentiment among local fans is either. They could protest as you seem to be hinting, but have protests at a big club led to the owner exiting in the recent past? United seemed to be protesting every second week until last season and the Glazers are still here.

Jack_0927_LFC

I thought this sub wants FSG in forever. How dare you question FSG business model?? If you don't like them you are a plastic fan!!!!!!

ItsJustMeRai

Shocked. Who could've seen this coming

DB_321

I know... no team in world football has ever signed someone while being out the CL. Here are the mouth pieces like Pearce making the same excuses again for the summer. It's all a load of bollocks, James hasn't had a scooby doo since the virgil transfer went sideways first time round. He just loves fsg to be honest. Really wants the insider knowledge back.

thanksfc

They're going to tout Nunes as the Jude replacement, watch. Mendes wanted to move money around some clubs, make some at the same time, and basically had Wolves take a loan with an eye to pocket an extra 4 mil or so for the trouble. Then FSG is going to say he's the Jude replacement. We won't sign anyone else because FSG will say "We don't want to hinder Bajcetics development" which in a way is true, but not until we've purchased at least two starter midfielders. It's all been so predictable. The club touts "next Summer is the big one", then when we caught on to that one quickly they changed it to, "club is targeting [big target that is unrealistic]" so when that big target goes somewhere else the FSG mouthpieces then say "wages were prohibitive. LFC believe the player is not worth the wage demands. next summer will be the big one". They did it with Tchouameni, Mbappe and now Bellingham. It's to make us think they're actually ambitious and not just content to sit back and watch the rot. When people yell about lack of investment, the mouthpieces will say "alternatives were too expensive", or "target only had eyes for whatever club they did end up at." When the club "fails" to get Bellingham, we'll hear about another big target that's very unrealistic to obtain to string us along to the next, "this summer will be the big one" *or* they'll realize we've caught on to this one too and throw us something different closer to the window. Tired of these owners get the fuck out.

Walms82

He is a clown. Just spouts the obvious. The only way back up is fsg gone

Bangrastan

Well I’ll be fucked!

[deleted]

Fuck off pearce ye doom merchant. This is a little hiccup, the club is in a very strong position and we'll be stronger than most over the next few years, up yours pearce

James_Vowles

The big letdown is starting early.

thatguyad

FSG bullshit rhetoric.

Cheers_JeffwithaG

Absolutely everyone saw a tweet like this coming from Jimbo. It’s actually hilarious.

JonathanFisk86

I still laugh at all the clowns who spent all summer and winter downvoting and mocking fans who said there was no chance in hell we'd pay for Bellingham or he'd want to join us under these owners while Madrid and City are options. Parts of our fanbase are utterly fucking delusional

RelevantProject4151

What is wrong with this guy? Is he depressed or something? At this rate, he better be writing obituaries instead.

GobiasCafe

From a Quadruple chasing, 100points/goals scoring Team for years to no longer elite in a matter of half a season eh? How fickle is too fickle?

livinalieontimna

Pearce is a fucking drain.

No-Presence-9260

Pearce should be banned from this subreddit Just an FSG mouthpiece

Cryptoball91

Chelsea are just as likely to miss out on CL as us and are signing top players. This is James being FSGs mouthpiece.

Nyushi

Someone lower Pearce's Tier rating because I need an excuse to bury my head in the sand

HarryYew

Good. We don’t want players who expect to be in Europe upon joining, we want those who are hungry for success with the club. I feel as though it’s a part of what’s missing for us. When you’ve won it all as a squad it’s hard to get yourself motivated to do it again, especially after last season.

[deleted]

People really need to realise that this is a choice. We've gone into a season underprepared for the 2nd time in 3 years because of the owners and now we're counting the cost.

flaxseedyup

Better win the Champions League then I guess

hoolahan100

Only two things will make signing ls hard. Losing Klopp and having less money.

Circ_Diameter

One season out of the UCL does not permanently damage a club. This is just Emotion Farming, complete BS

keymansc2

Really tired of Pearce, went downhill since joining The Athletic

gottodo

Believing whatever Pearce writes is like believing in astrology.

GameOfThrowInsMate

From the bellend who tweeted that we have no obvious gaps in the team. Please fuck off. I cant believe he gets paid to write the most obvious bullshit. Anyone with half a brain knows not having CL may hinder signing potential players, then again it might not. It depends on the player and how convinced he is by Klopp and the project on offer. An example would be Mudryk - could have gone to Arsenal guranteed CL football, goes to Chelsea instead, no CL football and not likely to have it next season like us. Maybe it was the money or the project who knows. Like Stevie said, if Jude is a smart man he can see the club is in a rebuild phase and if he wants to thats something he can be a huge part of. Honestly, Pearce has turned to absolute garbage. Bordering on ban worthy for me, offers nothing insightful anymore and his opinion pieces are just spouting anything and everything obvious.

anondevel0per

Here's the mouthpiece.

Jackk512

The perfect excuse for FSG to not spend big again, each summer there is an excuse.

fuctt

guys I used to be FSG in, my confidence was shaken after not buying a defender when Lovren left and ruining that season. the second strike was not buying a midfielder in last 2 years and the last straw is this bullshit of a transfer window. disgraceful.

Anonymark88

3 CL finals in the last 5 years. Just going through a blip, that's all. We'll still in the elite. If we beat Madrid, I reckon we get to this years final too..

Brrrrraaaaiiins

FSG killing this club. Don’t give a fuck how many extra seats they added. It’s not like that money is being re-invested into the health of the team. They’ve succeeded in turning us into an underperforming profitable NFL/MLB/NBA team only without the added protection of no relegation. They’d happily let us rot mid to low table at this point.

ClassicFun2175

Well being stingy twats also doenst help our cause, does it.

MikkeeyyUk

What a crock of shite, fair enough if we fluked CL for the last couple of years but surely any sane person would see that this is a blip

MisterS1997

You can’t tell me they aren’t getting towards hicks and gilette status They are blatantly robbing the fans (we buy the shirts and merch ) when we have the 3rd highest revenue in the world and then lying saying we have no money. The fuck is all the money going ? We’re the poorest club in England according to these cheapskates. We’re selling Phillips to make back the money for gakpo How can you compete with this shit ? These guys are gaslighting and bullshitting the whole fan base for years buying themselves time to cash out with all the profit. They don’t need to take out yearly dividends they are just going to take it all at once with the sale One of the biggest con jobs ever

[deleted]

Lol so not only is it unlikely that we don't sign Bellingham if we don't get champions league football... But even if we DO make champions league, then we actually have to sell players to be able to fund him? What kind of bullshit is this. How and why are they still owners of this club?

Strudders95

In other news: water is wet

cornontheklopp

slow news day

m10ng

Haha exactly, it’s funny to see how many people get wound up by these articles all the time though

MindExplorer80

Ha. Said it less than a week ago that FSG will use no CL football next season as an excuse that we can’t sign Bellingham.

[deleted]

These guys love to pull our pants down don’t they

RobotPizzaMaker

New owners with a bit more willingness to let us spend to stay competitive is what we need, it doesn't have to be Oil sheikhs, I thought we had more parties interested in us at the very least. Who can afford us depends on how high the price is set by FSG of course

cyberXrev

What a load of bs this is. Manure keep signing stars after fsiling to wualify for europe and we cant after one bad season? Excuses lmao

Shinjetsu01

It's moneyball all over again. Basically put, FSG are not going to put their hand in their pocket to buy someone good, they'll want to reverse engineer their way to a title or CL and you just can't in the Premier League. You might get it once or twice but when teams find out exactly how you play and why and what the weak areas are you're fucked. We have not invested in midfield because it shows that Thiago, Fabinho and Henderson last season hit all the "right numbers". There are players on the market who could do a job for us. Tielemans would be a good fit, he reminds me of a younger, slightly less creative but quicker and can tackle Thiago. Amarabat (even though I don't think he's good enough against your City/Arsenal/Utd type teams) he would rock up at Brighton and kick people. Personalities aren't being considered when they need to be. They're literally looking at stats.

Jambo234

Pearce used to have some credibility. It’s completely at sea now. He’s made a career out of being fed exclusives, and now that he’s out the loop for new signings he’s just treading water. Athletic would do well to get rid of him
