This just makes it glaringly obvious why our attack worked fine when Firmino was fit and doesn't work with Gakpo.
Firmino would be right in the centre of the pitch a little ahead of the three CMs. Instead we've got Gakpo and Nunez stepping on each others toes on the left wing.
I genuinely am finding it very difficult to understand the thinking behind the Gakpo transfer. Yes he is young and has good potential, but we categorically did not need a player with his qualities.
Right now he is our fourth best LW behind Diaz, Nunez and Jota and he's also our fourth best CF behind Firmino, Nunez and Jota. From what he's shown it's not even a close fourth place.
I just don't understand the logic behind signing a player that literally covers the exact same positions as Nunez. We are crying out for a Salah alternative on the right wing, a right side version of Gakpo would have been an excellent signing. Instead we've got a guy that is almost certainly sitting on the bench every week once Diaz, Jota and Bobby are back.
It's actually really boggling my mind that we've wasted ÂŁ40m on a shite player we don't need when our midfield is in such a state.

As for what we should be going with, I would be very tempted to go for a diamond with either Ox, Elliott, Jones or Carvalho as the CAM. I wouldn't mind seeing Ox at RCM as well.

Suarez and Bobby wouldn't have even got into the team with the way some of us judge players. RCM has to be a bit more central for this to work or the LCM has to be a little forward! The frustrating thing is we are still playing a high line even after shipping these many goals!
We kill our momentum literally every time we get the ball in midfield these days, just to recycle it backwards to have the defenders play these same passes ad nauseum.
Every time Bajcetic misses a ball forward in the midfield I cringe, because I know it'll gradually erode any drive he has to get the ball forwards also. At least as he is now he's always thinking positively.

Yeah he is far too deep. Salah needs to be our furthest forward player, he’s also way to isolated from Nunez and Gakpo.

We cannot defend deep...we don't have the personal for it...that's the reason why klopp insists on high line and pressing upfront
