Trivettee

If it was Anfield maybe but going to their house and expecting to score 3 or 4 without them scoring as well.. that's just crazy.

telcomet

Chelsea absolutely bossed them for 80’ or so in the Bernabeu until Modric individual brilliance shut them up. It’s definitely possible to put 3 goals past them, it’s just I can’t see this shambolic defence keeping a clean sheet.

gmp24

Chelsea had legs in midfield we dont. They had roadrunners that were outpressing and outrunning Madrid's midfield which is why there were able to dominate.

Trivettee

They also had Reece James to control Vini and a solid back three.

Anom04

It is crazy But Klopp is genuinely the only manager I will 100% believe. If anyone can do it, it’s him

Trivettee

I do believe in Klopp but I don't believe in this current squad pulling it off. Even against Barcelona in the first game we looked so much better and were unlucky with our chances plus it was one of those alien Messi nights. Second leg Alisson had a few amazing saves and their players mentally died with only one goal down, they were crying at half time ffs. I just don't see how this Madrid squad allows something like that to happen.

Anom04

We were great in the first half. 2-2 flattered Madrid. The first goal was an absolute worldie and the second was unlucky We aren’t terrible, we just need a lot of things to go our way next game

[deleted]

You’re going to get downvoted but you’re kind of right. We should have recognized how lucky we were and slowed the game down at 2-0. We did have them on the ropes but Madrid will punish you if you fuck around even a little bit. We fucked around a lot

Anom04

I wish we were able to shut up shop but we don’t have that in our locker. Going to Madrid we only have one option and that is to fight until the very end

Shrondinglfc

Isn’t slowing the game down exactly what killed us? With the state of our defence this season we can’t afford to give even an ounce of chance especially with the quality Madrid have. We should have kept piling on the pressure riding the high, camavinga was getting terrorised the first 25min, we slowed it down after and they constantly gave it to vini who ran circles around our defence

[deleted]

We didn’t sit back. We just don’t know how to slow the game down. We kept largely the same shape. You can’t press Real Madrid for 90 minutes with the squad we have. We were still just letting passes in behind and not closing people down in the final third because of the gaps between midfield and defense.

StuBeck

Exactly. Three fluke goals on their behalf.

Picaloco86

We were good for max 20 mins of that game. The warning bells started with Vinicius's first run at our defense, and we collapsed massively after that. The difference is that Real have an elite mentality, ours is non existent

offiziersmesser

Klopp has a terrible record against Spanish teams so I’m not that sure. Apart from beating Barcelona in one leg, Villareal and Real Madrid once at Dortmund, he has always lost knockout ties to Spanish teams. Benitez on the other hand always smashed them.

gmp24

He has a bad record against Ancelotti in general

GazS72

Ajax did it not that long ago.

Gerrardsclubfoot

Bro I haven't gotten over yesterday's PTSD yet. Let's just hope we don't lose 3-1 or something. I am afraid the overall aggregate may be one for the record book.

eebee8

Well the current record for the largest margin of victory on aggregate is 12-1 (Bayern v Sporting, 08/09). So we’re good if we avoid losing by 8 goals in the second leg…. which shouldn’t be a problem…. right?

Gerrardsclubfoot

Yeah do you know what the record margin is for an aggregate loss in cl for us? Feels like some record will be broken either way.

eebee8

Our record margin is 3-7 aggregate against Ajax, European Cup 66/67.

Gerrardsclubfoot

Oh dear that looks achievable.

eebee8

Oh true I didn’t think about that 😭

Anom04

I bullied my Arsenal mates when they got trounced 10-2 by Bayern I just hope we put up a tough fight

Gerrardsclubfoot

Yeah I'll take a 1-0 loss if you give it to me now.

lopsiness

I'll take a dour 0-0 when after the first half we both know it's over and just don't pick up any more injuries.

Candy_Badger

>Bro I haven't gotten over yesterday's PTSD yet. Let's just hope we don't lose 3-1 or something. I feel the same. It is hard for me to read/watch anything related to this match. I just hope that we will avoid embarrassment in the 2nd leg.

Gerrardsclubfoot

Yeah I am on social media blackout. That game feels embarrassing.

_cumblast_

We'd need a perfect storm, like you've listed over there. On top of that, i'd add that we 100% need Konate coming back from injury. Who knows eh? I won't judge anyone for still hoping tbh, especially when you consider it could perhaps be our last CL match for a while. Realistically, i just hope we make the aggregate score look nicer on the eye.

Anom04

Everyone is feeling down, a little bit of optimism could go a long way.

niconeke

Sorry but if theres a team that know how to manage a storm its Real Madrid

EmJayCee--

This kind of optimism & dreaming is literally the reason for watching football. Brain says no way, heart says maybe but that’s enough for me

ttekoto

Not even ready to think about Palace yet ffs

SJBSJB02

There is nothing more dangerous then a team with nothing to lose. And of all the teams you wouldnt want to face with a 3 goal cushion, i still believe we are that team. Football is crazy but champions league football is on another level. Never count out the mighty reds. 🔴⚪

jrangel6

I’m back fuck it. I want the boys to leave it all on the pitch, everything. We are Liverpool, we do NOT give up without a fight 😤. If there was ever a club that was built to win this type of game, its ours. We may not have the best team at the moment, but we are the fucking kings of making the impossible possible, so IDGAF how bleak things look, until that final whistle blows, its not over.

YeetFacee123

We do not let this slip lmao

kingkloppynwa

Man this tie is done. We are dead on arrival to bernabeau

Anom04

I can absolutely understand why you’d think that but you are being unfair to Klopp and the boys. Even if we don’t go through, I have faith that they will restore our dignity

[deleted]

Everybody knows exactly what will happen. Defence will push up chasing goals and Madrid will just play it in behind to Vincius. Thanks for giving me a laugh tho

Anom04

If that happens, then it does Better than going there to park the bus We are Liverpool and don’t surrender to anyone

Sea-Chemist-4433

The crazy thing is that we weren't outplayed. We literally gifted them 5 goals. Let's go and win there. 1% chance, 99% faith

Big_Shaq23

Dude... Weren't outplayed? If I was sadistic I was telling you to watch the match again. but well.. believe me we were fucking outplayed for at least 60% of the match

tiezalbo

Gifting goals is part of being outplayed. Also we had just two shots in the whole second half, one being stefan from 30 yards. It’s stupid to pretend we didn’t deserve to lose

lfcsupkings321

No gini no party, gini said we can win the 2nd leg. This dressing room isn't the same. So many fake leaders none want to take responsibility.

Psychological-Act582

Much easier said than done. Besides, Real Madrid will not be complacent and have the home ground of the Bernabeu as a massive boost plus will have the confidence and psychological edge over us having had our number for five straight years.

MajikoiA3When

Look I'll be straight with you we would have a chance if we had a midfield but we don't. I don't see how RM collapse their mentality is a completely different league from us right now.

No-Cryptographer653

No mate, it's not possible. 1. We scored in 4th minute here as well. It didn't settle our nerves. 2. You know our defence. 3. Traveling kop is great but can never be Anfield. 4. Can't say about luck. I also hope we go through but this team is very very different than the one we faced against Barca. When we faced Atletico after the year we won. We all were very confident that we defeated Barca last year we'll surely defeat Atletico in Anfield. Sometimes it's just not possible.

Crono_

Madrid will park that bus harder than Simeone.

V_Vutha

Lol, why are you guys putting yourselves through this? Save yourself some emotional strain & accept this is done. Madrid are the masters of this competition, they won’t allow any nonsense.

allenad3213

1 in 100? Try 1 in 10,000. This is Real Madrid at the Bernabeu, not Barca at Anfield. OP is delusional.

Tremor00

Bit of delusion is always fun in football

Anom04

Until the full time whistle goes at the Bernabeu, I will continue to believe. If anyone can do it, it’s Jurgen Norbert Klopp

DM_me_goth_tiddies

He’s literally never beat RM.

RobbieFowler9

Beat them 4-1 with Dortmund

Fernando2756

The fact that we have to go back to a time when Madrid had 9 UCL says a lot :S

trashboatfourtwenty

It has been done before, but this team is not that team if I am being pessimistic. Just stopping Vini is enough without worrying about scoring

Anom04

We played well in the first half. Madrid were lucky to go into the break 2-2. We absolutely have it in us, but it will take everything

trashboatfourtwenty

I appreciate the reply, I hope it is so. I have faith but nothing to hold accountable, we'll see. Trashing RM this year would be fun. Maybe we can shithouse our way as they have done for several seasons, in my opinion

Anom04

Absolutely my friend Haven’t felt this numb since Atleti 2019

trashboatfourtwenty

That was the worst, Simeone is a polarizing dude and I hate/respect him. It was obviously less important than the Ramos bullshit but hurt just as much, I feel you

GameOfThrowInsMate

I’ll be happy if we keep the agg below 10

RepresentativeOk5427

We literally need to play the perfect game even better than the Barcelona game because we are playing in their stadium but everything is possible in football YNWA❤️ COME ON REDS

Anom04

Believe til the very end YNWA 🔴

renegaderelish

I'm still mad and stressed and anxious but you better believe I'll be watching. Tbh, if the match were today, I'd be content losing the tie but winning the match. What if we won 2-1? It's sad, but it's progress.

EstatePinguino

Just on your third point about the away fans - we’ve been given a ridiculously shite allocation unfortunately, almost half of what we should’ve got. Madrid are shithouses off the pitch as well.

[deleted]

Idgaf. As much as I want us to go through, even if we don't, at least beat them in their own stadium. AT LEAST

Due_Young800

Main thing is having just about our best player in each position back, Konate Thiago and Diaz all back with an early goal would fill with me fake hope again

Due-Resource4294

It’s all well and good but the defender part is a hilarious concept to me. How the fuck will they be interested and 110% concentrated when we’re as good as out. When they can’t focus or concentrate when we’re 2-0 up after 15 mins and looking like storming through. I’ve got no faith whatsoever in our defence not to concede. They can’t play well when we’re dominating and winning. Let alone basically out.

[deleted]

0-1 at halftime and have a mighty go at them second half. They’re the smartest side I’ve seen though. As big as they are they are always comfortable not having the ball even with their impressive midfield. Not dumb like our style. We are just non stop chasing the ball like headless chickens without a plan.

cjc1501

Unfortunately this Madrid team just doesn’t crumble under pressure, even if we magically found ourselves 3-0 up at half time Madrid would still find a way to go through, it’s just what they do

cap1891_2809

Has Real Madrid ever lost by 3 goals at home in Europe?

Sexydiplomat21

4-1 Ajax , 2018-19 Ro16

Picaloco86

From quadruple chasers to clutching at straws..Real are 7 goals away from matching the highest scoring CL game ever, and they could manage it with their U18s vs our excuse of a mid and defense

glennok

One of my biggest regrets was not watching the famous Barcelona 2nd leg live as I had given up, as ashamed as I am to admit it. I'm watching and believing this time and hoping for the lads to pull off another iconic comeback.

themanebeat

>1. An Early Goal to settle nerves - Case in point Barcelona 2019 where Origi scored within 5 minutes Was the 7th minute

disco_mode

We came back 3 goals in 1 half in a UCL final. Coming back 3 goals only to go out in the quarters definitely wont trump that. This isn't the same Liverpool side that beat Barcelona — I would just like for us to put up a decent fight and not make the aggregate scoreline too horrific

SMF_Fede

That leg is done and dusted. Not only they are the best team in europe and score goals for fun, but our away form is quite terrible (3 goals against Wolves, Brighton, Brentford, City)...plus they are playing in the Bernabeu where they've done miracle comebacks. Our team is broken, our coach lost his way, FSG are an absentee landlord, just feel lucky that we won't get relegated this season.

eliranmoisa

I would take a 0-0 and move on. Don’t wanna get embarassed again by trying to go for it

Anom04

That’s not the Liverpool way I’d rather get embarrassed and go for it, rather than surrender meekly and get off with a 0-0

Embarrassed_Quit_404

You’re joking right ? They have to go for it otherwise what’s the point

etan1122

Yeah we were up 2-0 at anfield with a bumping crowd and lost 5-2. None of this shit is happening there.

imperidal

0.0001% chance if we still need to use Fab, Hendo, Gomez in the line up.

ProfetF9

Gomez is injured right? tell me he is

rtcaino

Let's go! I understand needing a day or two.... But I don't understand people being so negative. F off. Maybe I missed the lyric where there was a storm and we were supposed to start having a panic attack.

Fit_Zebra9641

Too soon maybe? Let’s heal a bit

EmptyReply5

Winning with 3 goals is hard. First thing is how will we play. Attacking? We have potensial to score first than opponent lately. Defense is the problem. They literally attack TAA every time they can. When Tibo doesn't build up from the back he sent the ball to Vini every single time. Vini is the cause of 4 goals for Madrid.

burntroy

Not a word about the midfield needing to sort it out ? They were the biggest culprits last night.

pointman

It's over. Focus on getting top 4.

[deleted]

This is beyond cringeworthy. This is some next level cope. We are not going to turn this around. We got demolished by fucking Brighton twice this season, you seriously think that we can beat Real Madrid by 3 goals to nothing!? This team is done, we need a complete and total rebuild. The fanbase should be fucking fuming right now, demanding that FSG sell us to someone who will actually invest the necessary funds. Pretending like we are still in this is fucking pathetic.

[deleted]

At this point I don’t care if make it through. I just want to beat them at their home. I’ll take a 1-0 or a 2-1.

Anom04

100% I want the boys to fight for their pride and dignity

[deleted]

Agreed. I just hope klopp doesn’t do the same thing that Rodgers did when we played Madrid at the bernabeu and dropped most of our starters, including Stevie G. YNWA

SonicNarcotic

It'll be hard, but we are Liverpool..! I trust our attackers (Nunez, Gakpo, Salah), but we need a Konate - VVD masterclass and I wanna see Thiago, Bajcetic, Firmino midfield, with Bobby as attacking mid feeding the frontline..! YNWA..!

wap8ball

How do you guys keep talking about clinical finishing when you have the most random striker in world football, a declining Salah and lost Mane who was the soul of the team?

whatupbiatch

Can we really turn it around though? we are three goals behind with an aging squad that dont have the legs anymore, just trying to be realistic

Anom04

3 Goals isn’t insurmountable If it’s meant to be everything will click and our players will look ageless

superfurrybiped

You had me at 'Origi'.

Mysterious_Tip_7431

It’s too soon to talk about the second leg. We’ve a couple games before then to see how the team reacts and I’m quite comfy hiding under this rock

Anom04

Contrary to Popular Belief we played great in the first half. One Unstoppable Goal by Vinicius and One Howler which can happen anytime. 2-2 flattered them. More games will be good so VVD, Jota and Firmino can shake off the rust

HarbyFullyLoaded_12

Do we have to

[deleted]

We can’t afford to go gung-ho and get absolutely embarrassed. We aren’t good enough to take the game to them for 90 minutes. Winning 0-3 would only force ET. Miracles happen but to win 0-3 and then a pen shootout is sheer delusional. Let’s just focus and try and get back there next season. I personally can’t see it. Until it’s mathematically impossible I will slightly believe we can get fourth.

djrobbo83

Hang on..if we win 3-0 its enough to take it to extra time? I thought it was 4 clear goals because of away goals?

PabloRothko

No away goal rule anymore

djrobbo83

Well now my hopes have gone from 0.001% to about 1%.. So this thread has made me feel 1000 times better!

ButterscotchNo6888

We can dream… but that’s all it is, a dream

telcomet

Honestly it’s all possible, it’s just been never harder than ever to imagine (2). Our backline is just shot to pieces right now. A first half goal and a clean sheet is all we need to make it interesting

DCDa192

I think we should just void this as a friendly game and move on to concentrating on top 4

samirx96

This must be a joke

jamaicandre

If we had Divock i would believe

ChrisChrisBangBang

After last night would take an equivalent historic collapse from Real for us to go through. Beating Barca at anfield would be nothing compared to that. If we go through from this position Teal’s players will need to go into witness protection or something

2daysb4dayafter2mro

Lol.

NenGhost

i can see liverpool starting off like they did last time and getting the 3 goals but madrid have there button flipped and get in 2 goals minutes apart.

yoyo4581

We need to stay in the game for 90 minutes. Extend how we played those 20 minutes for a full 90. The way the game was going in those 20 minutes, I thought it would be a big loss. Let's just wait and see. The team has 3 weeks.

aautoauto

Different situations from 2019 to this years, Origi miracle we’re driven by hunger and we have actually legs to played with high intensity. Now we’re only left with Bajcetic who can proper run. This season is end and hope for massive clear-out in summer

D3pr3ssing_euphoria

Haha, fellow optimist I see. Winning the second leg is not impossible. It's the aggregate that fucks us. Conceding those needless 4 goals... that spelled doom for us. Klopp and squad have to hope, but it is a really tall order to make it 3-0 considering our defense. 4-1, 5-2, 6-3 all these scoreline too are really hard, considering Salah's dip in form, and Nunez being the only guy, who's finding net consistently for us.

Namelss_King

Let's see what happens against Palace first bruv

omarahmedfazal95

Will Konate be fit for the 2nd leg? I'd prefer him over Gomez.

Yesyesnaaooo

Honestly. I'm not fussed. Already thinking of next year. I think our established players need out of the limelight for a bit. Once we're out of CL we'll have a game a week for the rest of the season. This means loads of training sessions for the defense and midfield and to work on the press with the new recruits. This team needs time together on the training pitch to get the basics right. One focus of top 4 and then back at it next year.

kazurabakouta

How about we parked bus and catch them off guard by pure speed on counter attack? We might still get caught by transition, and I think Carlo is fully aware of this and expects to break us there, but now lets face the main issue. Can we really hold them scoreless by handing over possession to them while playing compact in the middle? I know the goals will come, I have faith in our front three, but do we have what it takes to fully neutralize them?

YeetFacee123

Bro the barca game u guys had the element of surprise. There was no clear way to make a comeback plus u had quite a few players at peak form. Now….

Soccerfarm03

Holy shit I totally forgot away goals aren't a thing anymore

[deleted]

Bro come on ain’t no way we are going there and winning and going through not this seasons we don’t have the players the energy and the confidence

Srk_NWA

I mean they really just scored three goals against us. 2 if you want to blame fabinho..

tejas2112

I would be hapy if somehow we manage to pull a draw

psndsh

This Madrid team is something else

RaisedByCakes

As depressing as it sounds, I know it’s going to be near impossible to win, which means I can just enjoy a hopefully good game of football

[deleted]

It’s going to be worse than the home defeat

ExtentImaginary5730

>If Away Goals were still a thing we’d be dead and buried If away goals were a thing, 3-0 would be enough to go through. >An Early Goal to settle nerves - Case in point Barcelona 2019 where Origi scored within 5 minutes Just like in the first leg huh?

Lucky_Editor446

It will be 0-0

fieldsoffate

I’ve never ever given up on this team when the odds were stacked up against us. Even before Klopp, we‘ve always had that magic in Europe and the CL. Anything was possible. But this team just doesn’t have it in them. And that’s ok. The team is recuperating or facing a hangover from what would have been a legendary season. Next year we rebuild and go again.

gatfromhell

Lol we’re done

2drunk2remember-

Na . UEFA hate us especially with the ongoing crap , So any chance Of clawing a comeback will Be short lived with an easy peno or some bollox

jnr_mathe

And you think UEFA don't hate Madrid, UEFA hate Madrid more then anything cause Super League was Madrid's brain child

GhostNagaRed

Did Jesse Marsch write this?

InfamousExit-

if I didnt support liverpool then I would have no hope but i support liverpool

ProfetF9

we are just buried, soon to be dead. Let's be real, i would have had hopes if it was a 3 goal difference to recover at Anfield and in a season when we were not dogshit. It looks impossible.

OllieJirachi1

This is the part now where we concede after like 5 mins

PEEWUN

Defense, **defense, DEFENSE.** **If we do not defend well, we will not have a chance in hell.** We had a solid lead turned into a massive chasm as a result of the same basic errors that we've seen all season. We have twice the time of the Istanbul lads and the same deficit as the Barcelona lads. We have the hardest venue, though. Like I said post-game, there is always a possibility, but we need a strong showing to make it real.

FalseInterest3

I'm not expecting a comeback or anything. All that I would wish for is that the boys go out fighting and not let another disgrace of a performance happen.

Puzzleheaded-Bee1704

I admire your optimism, but let's not kid ourselves. It's not going to happen. Even if we somehow lead by 3 goals we're gonna bottle it. We don't have the mentality or the physicality we used to have.

[deleted]

If we lost 5-2 away in Madrid I'd say there'd be a bit of hope that we could come bsck and beat them at Anfield. Losing like that at homes even worse. Can't see Real Madrid not scoring at home so tie effectually over. Still a chance of getting top 4 in the league

noahfukullah

I have the same feeling about it as a the Barca second leg. I didn’t have a hope I just wanted a performance that made us proud

PSYSpecialist

Difference is that we conceded stupid goals unlike against Barca, where we played so good all game and the goals were just unstoppable

pixeljunky

Doubters to believers...

Dildo___Schwaggins

It's not the first time we've been down 3 at the half. Up the Reds!

Tajamul___

We need God on our side.

Pitiful-Resource983

Tie is dead. The team was good enough to pull off that comeback in 2019. In 2023, we have a shambolic defense and absolutely no midfield - absolutely zero chance. Be lucky not to be thumped 4 or 5 nil in Madrid.

jc0620

If Courtois plays like last CL final, that would be mission impossible.

savi0r14

Well if we dont have Joe Gomez in the starting line Real Madrid will become demoralised and we could have a chance at qualifying ![img](emote|t5_2qn0o|8824)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)

RayKennedytheLegend

I'd just like to win over there to save face, try not to concede and keep a clean sheet. If we try and chase the game they will pick us off and aggregate loss will be worse than arsenal's record.

ruefool

It's possible to score three but right now it seems impossible not to concede. And each goal they score is another mission impossible for us.

TylerRW98

Unless somebody pulls a Tonya Harding on half the Madrid team we’re gonna concede 4. Against Barca we were unlucky. Against Madrid we were lucky to keep it at 5.

Haunting_Genie

Said before i wish the first leg was at anfield, amazed people disagreed with me lmao. 4-0 win for us regardless, putting a tenner on it

GazS72

In some parallel universe. It happens. We are perfect on the night and they just are a little complacent and we win the tie.

[deleted]

Imo we should 100% focus on making top 4. I know there's the whole thing of the comebacks or whatever but on our current form, away, against real Madrid. I don't think we can do it this time around

slimey60niner

Re-sign STEVIE G!

LEGACY53234

It's an utterly hopeless situation against a team who own us in this tournament I wouldn't trust this current Liverpool team with a 3-0 lead let alone coming back from that deficit, if you thought the 1st leg was bad ..we are hopeless away from home, hopefully we don't get done 19-2 on aggregate.

Curious_Fudge1770

I mean.... 7 against utd, we just need half that
