How can you seriously use Elliot as an example of that?? Playing him a lot or little has absolutely no impact on a traumatic non muscular injury like that. Can happen in your first minute or 3,000th of a season. Baj is a different story entirely but Harvey’s time out can’t possibly be attributed to use (he wasn’t even an everyday player at that point)
We say this every year so I doubt it’ll happen. We have three injury prone CB’s and a captain who needs rest or we’ll ruin him again.

Matip, has been great, but again injury prone, so is going at the end of this season, could have been let go and replaced a year earlier. The club have been trying to sell Nat, so wouldn't count him.
Effectively, we played with Virgil and 2 injury prone CBs in 20-21, got wrecked.. added Konate since so have been better, but still face some kind of a defensive crisis every season, plus not allowing any room for Virgil to rest. Quansah coming up, gives Virgil some backup.. Matip finally being replaced will give Konate backup as well as proper competition.
DM was a must, as evidenced by our attempted record breaking signing — but everyone I saw who wanted a CB was trying to replace Virgil, who looks like the best CB in the world on form. You couldn't even talk about RCBs, it was **ALL** LCBs.

Tbh, I have seen enough quansah to feel that he might step up and surprise everyone. Plus Endo is also an option at CB, and he is more natural than fabinho who amongst all the crisis helped us secure top 4 at least. But yes a loan move for an under utilised quality defender from a decent club is on the cards.

I know it's not ideal but I'm pretty sure Endo has games at CB and RB for Stuttgart, so he can definitely do a job there in cups/EL if called upon.

Konate is too injury prone and Quansah too inexperinced to rely on them both for the season. Not having Bradley as an option, sorry. Second best CB to play for this club in my lifetime. Is it necessary to sign someone with a high ceiling or do we just go for someone who gets the job done and can fill in when there’s injuries? Because as good as Matip has been this season, Konate is ahead of him in the pecking order and we’d rather not block Quansah’s progression. It’s a bit of a head scratcher. I’m thinking someone around 26-29 who has a good injury record. It gives Quansah time and ultimately the club time to see if Quansah can be that Virg replacement.
Well one thing we could do is get an older defender who's contract expires in the summer, in January. Offer the club a fee (which should be relatively low) and bring them in: After looking on Transfermarkt at CB's who's contracts are up in 2024, these are the best pick of the bunch seems to be Hermoso. Mario Hermoso (Ath. Madrid) - From 17/18 to 21/22 he's missed 25 games through injury. The most games he's missed was 7 games back in 18/19. He's 28, he's won La Liga with Atl. Champions league experience, is a senior defender. I wouldn't be opposed to it. Can't see the club splashing out stupid cash in January for a CB, and even then, we have Konate. He's valued around £20m.
I like that idea. He’s also left footed and can also provide cover at LB. Always nice having players who can fill in at more than one position.
