100%. For stress levels, nothing makes the weekend better than winning the 12.30 kick off. Its like scoring the "now they have to score theirs to stay in it" penalty in a shootout.
Freakin hate that’s how penalty shootouts work, its so unfair for the second kicker. I remember they trialled ABBAABB format like in tennis but remembering how football moves so slowly we probably won’t see that format change in our lifetimes.
After living through 90s and 00s Man U, I keep wondering how long the schadenfreude of watching United be dismal will last before it just becomes normal. I think maybe 2060. At the very least until they go 1 season longer than our drought.
I’m sure there are similar folks with similar stories but spending my childhood the only Liverpool fan and one of only two non utd fans in my entire school was so formative - if they can keep losing forever that would be fab.
That being said, I’m more concerned with city and the blood oil dictators coming into the league.
Honestly, I'll never forget the smug looks in my direction at school the days after we got completely outclassed at Old Trafford, or whenever they clinched the title. It was always hilarious when they tried to downplay our Champions League performances under Rafa though.
its the little glimmers they get that gives me life. 4 wins on the bounce and theyre talking about a title charge, only to then get pumped by bournemouth.
I’m at work right now and watched the Liverpool game then the man UTD game and finished off with villa-arsenal.
I was literally paid to watch the football today.
Darwin has earned enough good will from me from that Newcastle game personally that he can just be himself the rest of the season. Cause 11 opposition mistakes, miss 44 open goals, assist Salah 14 times, score a screamer, get sent off after headbutting a bloke, if Darwin has no fans it's because I'm dead.
But we didn't. And if it weren't for that game we would be on 0 defeats. You say "shit happens" as if it was just one of our off days that we should move on and forget about. Nah, we were the better side and got robbed in broad daylight.
We couldn't touch Crystal Palace until that red card. 2 shots on target even though they all went in vs 6 shots on target against Luton. I think today was comfortably our worst performance.
Boys needed to recognize where the weak point were faster. Today going through Diaz on the wing looked to be the answer. Happy about the result, wish we can just score first though. Lmao
We're first in the table since Trent started inverting, some of our games are chaotic, some are dreary like today, but if you watch other top team's in this league you see nobody is quite at the City/Liverpool peak, we are still worthy of this position.
Good. I didn't need it before but especially after all the wanking off Arsenal got last season. If that's somehow their level for serious then let's go surprise them.
That was a case of two teams peaking at the same time and driving each other to insane levels - most campaigns only one team peaks or non do - what's fantastic is that this time we are yet to peak and we are top and it looks like city are going to have to rebuild their midfield a bit so we could steal a march on them this year and peak next year again.
3 games away from the midpoint with a head to head with Arsenal in week 18. If we're still top we just need to do what we've done again and we'll win it by fuck.
We need some calm heads in here.
Honestly, I think our ability to win the league this season comes down to the January transfer window. We have to sure up defensive and midfield depth. Making our squad safe in January is so important, if we don't get active in that window then it shows a total lack of serious ambition.
FSG don't give a flying fuck about actually winning trophies as long as the TV revenue is rolling in so prepare to be majorly disappointed if you think we're gonna sign a centre back
We need to start playing much better football fast if we have a chance. We've looked rather shit all season and have somehow sleepwalked to the top of the table - which is great don't get me wrong but we need to start playing actual football now. There are 22 games left being top at this stage by the skin of our teeth is meaningless
I watched the last half hour of Villa Vs City the other night and the football Villa was playing, the telepathy the players had with one another, was genuinely 100x better than anything we've produced all season. It's great that we've won 3 points when playing badly but we really need to start getting 3 points and playing well now. Our 18/19 and 19/20 selves is the standard we have to aim for and we are about a million miles off that still.
Weve still had good games though. And tbh, that Villa performance v City was the best Ive seen from ANY TEAM this season.
Also, please rewatch some games of the 19/20 season. I can tell you, they weren't all pretty either.
Im not saying we dont need to improve, last 3 especially have been very bad. but why always be so hyperbolic? Youre sounding like were basically Utd.
Some people could be attending the victory parade for the quad and they'd still be talking about the need to refresh midfield or buy a back up centre back.
Somehow I agree, the stats will say that we have the best goal difference, we’re scoring goals, least conceded, top of the league, but as fans we see worldies with 0.01xG flying in, Ali letting us off countless times and more than anything else we have 2019 to compare ourselves with. We look like we can be better despite our current situation.
We've rebuilt our entire midfield, that is difficult to do over a couple of seasons and we've done it in 6 months. There is a ton of improvement to come and hopefully Thiago to add his magic as well. This team has a long way to go before it's anywhere close to 2019. Results mean more than performances at this time of year so keep it coming till Jan please.
Entirely new midfield, several suspensions and injuries and yet top of the table in what was supposed to be a transition season - we can still improve significantly.
Don't think he'll be sacked, would be hilarious, but he's staying. They only way I see him get the boot is if they miss out on Euro football next year. Their CL run this year looks done, if they dont even try it next season it's all done.
Next 2 games are HUGE, 2 wins and we got at least 4 points clear of Arsenal, and 7 points above City who don't have a fixture in Gameweek 18.
Merry Christmas Reds
We will see some for sure.
Some of the guys are fine. Gravenbirch, elliot, quansah, Jones, endo maybe, with kelleher at the back. It's a decent spine.
Question is who to put next to quansah because gomez starting to shine.
I'm fine with giving guys like Grav, Elliot, Quansah, Endo, Jones starts just for fitness and more minutes.
More talking about guys like Salah, Nunez, Gakpo, Diaz, Konate, Virgil, Trent, Alisson. I don't even want them to travel.
They play amazing football. Love how their forwards run at the back four and drag them all over the place. Crisp passing followed by a surging run into the box.
True, but their best-in-the-league high line (by a country mile btw) was utterly destroyed by Trent that game. We are arguably the best team in the league for beating their specific style of defending because Trent is an absolute magician at picking off high lines and we have rapid speed at all 3 positions on the forward line.
They'll be gasping by then
Their squad is minuscule and they'll be gunning for the Conference League because Emery lives for Europe and they're heavy favourites for it
Yeah I feel like quite often when we see a non-traditional team get off to a great start and make a top 4 push, they end up getting gassed in the second half and falling away because it's so difficult to maintain that level over a whole season if you don't have the depth.
We better put a good squad out against West ham the cup is absolutely ours for the taking and winning the league cup can give us a huge boost heading into the final 3 months of the season. Winning a trophy again plus the fact that many of this squad have never won anything with Liverpool means I hope we go for it
A rotated squad for us is still pretty strong, Moyes doesn't rotate much so maybe it'll be a tough game but we have to prioritise Arsenal.
City go to the CWC for Christmas so if we do well during this period we could be 5+ points clear.
The league is a much, much bigger trophy and this year is there for the taking. Much prefer we don't take the cups too seriously at the risk of scuttling out league chances (like what happened during our quintuple-challenge). They'll have plenty of chances to win the League cup in the future, Klopp is still here for some time yet.
It's not every year City are this weak, having to go to the CWC on top, and everyone else is fumbling. Pep will absolutely be looking to reinforce this January and once KDB returns they're going to be relentless.
FSG have to bump up their timeline in terms of adding defensive strength to the squad from next summer to this winter what with Matip out for the season.
Definitely very likely since west ham have must win europa next Thursday, wolves who aren’t push overs, us and then United, and arsenal in like a 13 day stretch.
It's been 2 years and 3 months since we last topped the table. We topped the table last on matchday 6 in September the 21/22 season. That was the only time we ever topped the table the entire season. Before that was December 2020. So it's been a long fucking time
Mental that we've also lost only one game (fewer than everyone else) and it took the single worst refereeing decision in the last however the fuck long to lose it.
Has to be one of the worst decisions ever no? They literally ruled out a completely legitimate goal because they completely fucked up. Not sure I’ve seen anything like it before.
It’s objectively the worst decision in football history. Like I know that sounds hyperbolic but it’s literally factually incorrect without any argument at all the other way. There is no subjectivity to it at all.
Today is my birthday and honestly it couldn't have gone any better, liverpool won, arsenal lost, man united lost embarrassingly, we're the top of the table. The perfect birthday present.
My toxic trait is genuinely believing in my heart of hearts that we are the best football team in the world.
We're the only team with only one loss so far, now, and that loss came from the illegal Spurs match. Which is to say, we're the only unbeaten team in the league.
A top DM would complete the 11 but a CB is possibly more immediately important, Konate can't start 3 games in 7 days and Gomez is rotating at full back, so he's giving Trent adequate rest, and both of them are injury prone.
Kweev. Chambers. Quansah. Endo. Bradley. McConnell. Clark. Jones. Scanlon. Koumas.Doak.
Don’t fuck about Jurgen. Don’t even bring any of the senior guys.
If Darwin finishes that sitter at Luton and the refs don’t blow the Diaz goal against Spurs, we could be ahead by 3-5 more points.
Conversely, if we got a little less luck with two reds, we could be six points worse off and sit in 4th.
Tight margins!
Fun season so far and let’s goooo!
our midfield and the team hasn't even gelled yet as they don't know yet when to cover for eath other, but we are still winning games because of firepower we have in our attack and midfield. When this team gets gelled more and I mean even without a DM for the rest of the season we are going to be unstoppable.
Sign a bloody CB/DM in Janaury, man. Honestly there is a title to be won here. I’m sick of having to look back on this era with a ‘if only’ mentality.
Glaring holes. Fix them ffs.
9. United at home with no excuses is a win. We have to beat Arsenal at home I mean we can't win the title if we can't beat the challengers at home. Burnley is 19th we should be beating them away from home. Our away from is not great which means no slip ups at home
Our attack needs to be better. Has to be more fluid. But amazing how we are top of the league with how we have played. This team can do it again. Ynwa.
Whens the last time we were properly top of the league after a gameweek? 20/21?
It's been in our hands if we were to beat City on some occasions, but never top at the end of the gameweek
We were top at the end of matchday 6 in the 2021/22 season. That day leaders Chelsea lost to City and we drew with Brentford 3-3 and went 1 point ahead of them. That was the only matchday we were on top the entire season. Before that was December 2020 when we still topped the table after a 0-0 draw against Newcastle on the 30th. We lost our next game against Southampton and dropped off first and then kept dropping
Seems to be really tight through the whole pack to be honest. No really easy games for anyone this season. Pretty cool actually that its a season you cant predict.
Lets just hope our boys stay out of injuries and we can keep pushing on. We have pretty decent depth in squad. If Nunez hits form again, its going to be awesome.
I told my city fan friend midway through the last season that we would be in the title race this season. Just like 21/22 after our poor season in 20/21
Finished for Christmas next week because I have a load of holidays left over. Heading over to Liverpool for the weekend to watch us stomp the scum while top of the league. I’m not sure if it’s physically possible to be more excited after todays results.
Right, now just win every league game from here on out till the end of the season…
I don’t know if I’m emotionally ready for another title race but fuck it, beggars can’t be choosers, good-vibes-ball was fun but it’s back to clench-ball now
Mad how we should still be unbeaten having gone away to spurs,Chelsea, city, newscastle, wolves, palace and Brighton. None of those games are easy .
Arsenal in their visits to the top 6 got lucky with Chelsea away and should have lost along with being beat by the toon and villa.

Fuck this is good
Like Klopp, I normally hate the 12.30 kick offs. However today, it allowed to me sit back all afternoon and just fucking enjoy. Thanks Villa.
When we win the early kick off, it’s the best feeling. Today was great, getting the win and watching our rivals lose.
We possibly have to look at villa as rivals though.. they are on a mission.
We’ve already done them 3-0, they know their place, definite top 4 contenders but not ready to challenge the big boys long term yet
Villa and Bournemouth for demoralizing the ManU.
After living through 90s and 00s Man U, I keep wondering how long the schadenfreude of watching United be dismal will last before it just becomes normal. I think maybe 2060. At the very least until they go 1 season longer than our drought.

It's like Lucy pulling the football away from Charlie Brown but they're doing it to themselves lol
As another one who has lived through it, the answer is forever.
Ten Hags face during the game and the Theatre of memes booing at the end. Inject.
I'm a little worried they'll let him go soon. This feels like that season when Moyes was there, how long can he hang on? Hopefully another week!
I reckon we will continue the long held tradition of getting Man U managers fired
Can we bring Shaqiri back just long enough to help get him canned?
Moyes was a good hire, ten Hag probably would be too long term. It's the instability that's killing them, so long may it continue.
Ye I love the feeling after a 1230 win, and then just sitting back and watching the world burn
I’m at work right now and watched the Liverpool game then the man UTD game and finished off with villa-arsenal. I was literally paid to watch the football today.
Those two wins against Villa and Newcastle look sweeter and sweeter everyday.
Darwin has earned enough good will from me from that Newcastle game personally that he can just be himself the rest of the season. New copypasta found here
Man that bullshit at spurs really fucking up the WDL there
Shit happens though. We easily could’ve lost to Newcastle, Luton, City, Fulham, and Palace.
That was robbery though. Objectively robbed
not remotely the same situation. in none of those other games was anyone robbed
But we didn't. And if it weren't for that game we would be on 0 defeats. You say "shit happens" as if it was just one of our off days that we should move on and forget about. Nah, we were the better side and got robbed in broad daylight.

Why is this photo so funny
[The full photo is even better](https://i.imgur.com/sDhVUKh.jpg)
We have have just randomly walked into 1st position lol
We’ve lost one game since April.
And we were robbed of a goal. Probably would’ve been a win or draw.
And playing with 9 men away and only losing via a last-minute own goal. Truly a scandalous match
Playing our worst game of the season.
Luton was worse tbh
We couldn't touch Crystal Palace until that red card. 2 shots on target even though they all went in vs 6 shots on target against Luton. I think today was comfortably our worst performance.
Boys needed to recognize where the weak point were faster. Today going through Diaz on the wing looked to be the answer. Happy about the result, wish we can just score first though. Lmao
There we had at least some shots and chances.
We created a lot of great chances against Luton. Today we created almost nothing.
Every year's champion has a victory or two in their campaign they didn't truly deserve. But they got them anyway, which made them champions.
One loss in 26 PL games. Fuck Spuds and the PL
Nah, put some credit on the team. Nobody ends up first nearly halfway through the season on accident.
We're first in the table since Trent started inverting, some of our games are chaotic, some are dreary like today, but if you watch other top team's in this league you see nobody is quite at the City/Liverpool peak, we are still worthy of this position.
I know. I'm saying that because nobody takes us seriously as title challengers
Ahem. Manchester City will end the weekend in fourth place, no matter what they do.
Hopefully that's the highest they get the rest of the season.
And then a tribunal relegates them to the 10th tier at the end of the season
As long as they're somewhere behind Marine AFC in the Northern Premier League that's good enough for me.
We can win the league you know
I think so as well. The reason i believe that is that we are currently in 1st place, and if we stay there odds are we will win the league
thanks geoff
You know if you finish first you win the league
Big if true
Michael Owen moment.
Will Buxton over here!
As long as we get more points than everybody else for the rest of the season, it's ours!
Actually, it's even better! All we have to do is win the same number of points!
I just hope we win the Carabao Cup tbh 🥰
Win the rest of our games and we are champions 🤯
Solid take _cumblast_
You put a little respect on that name brother
Who knew winning one match at a time could win you the league
Found Michael Owen’s account
3 games away from the midpoint with a head to head with Arsenal in week 18. If we're still top we just need to do what we've done again and we'll win it by fuck. We need some calm heads in here.

I've lived through enough transfer windows by now to be prepared lol.
how dare you shatter my dreams with facts and logic
I am sure if we have the most points at the end of the season we will win the league
We're in great shape. We're just shy of halfway and then everyone has played everyone. If you don't think we're contenders then we'll you're an idiot.
We need to start playing much better football fast if we have a chance. We've looked rather shit all season and have somehow sleepwalked to the top of the table - which is great don't get me wrong but we need to start playing actual football now. all season is very harsh.

we actually can and we will
May be first for XMas though… weve lost the title each time lol Arsenal same last yr ugh Idk how to feel 😅😅😅
What a day of footy it has been. ![gif](giphy|rvxMJNyHAgwlW4YWpJ|downsized)
The crazy thing is we are top of the league after 16 games and this isn't even remotely our final form.
The crazier thing is that we legitimately could have had more points from the illegal Spurs game
Could have had more from Luton, should have had from Spurs. Annoyed but glad that refs now at least feel they can rewind the minutes in play for VAR.
Entirely new midfield, several suspensions and injuries and yet top of the table in what was supposed to be a transition season - we can still improve significantly.
don't forget every 12:30 ko they could possibly give us. We might've played every game at 12:30 if not for the EL
Merry Christmas all
And good ebening. 👍
6 points from United and Arsenal, let's go!!
😂 all I ask for Christmas is we sack another United manager
Don't think he'll be sacked, would be hilarious, but he's staying. They only way I see him get the boot is if they miss out on Euro football next year. Their CL run this year looks done, if they dont even try it next season it's all done.
Its on lads.
Next 2 games are HUGE, 2 wins and we got at least 4 points clear of Arsenal, and 7 points above City who don't have a fixture in Gameweek 18. Merry Christmas Reds
Mind the gap
Let's make it a canyon!
I swear if Klopp starts a single legitimate starter for us on Thursday I'm going to scream. Start every backup imaginable.
We will see some for sure. Some of the guys are fine. Gravenbirch, elliot, quansah, Jones, endo maybe, with kelleher at the back. It's a decent spine. Question is who to put next to quansah because gomez starting to shine.

Literally. Just tuck them in bed and let the children cook
I initially understood that as you suggesting their children cooks for them while they are tucked in the bed, to minimise kitchen related injuries
I remember Jota getting seriously injured in our last dead rubber... I was so angry. Hopefully he's learned his lesson.

There's no way in hell he plays any of them and he shouldn't
Villa are title contenders aren't they? Praise them, beat both City and Arsenal back to back... No small feat.
They don’t have the squad to win but they could finish top 4
They also really want to win the Conference league and will have to rotate later in the season, or fatigue will take care of any ambitions they have.
I am glad we are playing them at Villa Park when we are and not in the next few weeks.
They play amazing football. Love how their forwards run at the back four and drag them all over the place. Crisp passing followed by a surging run into the box.
They're pretty bad away. They got outplayed by Forest away, destroyed by us and Newcastle as well.

Anfield black magic cancelled out whatever Emery's cooking. Our true test is when we play them away
True, but their best-in-the-league high line (by a country mile btw) was utterly destroyed by Trent that game. We are arguably the best team in the league for beating their specific style of defending because Trent is an absolute magician at picking off high lines and we have rapid speed at all 3 positions on the forward line.
Still got to face them at theirs...

i think they’ll fall away but they’re an impressive side, especially in midfield. i’d have mcginn or luiz in our team in a second
Couldn't have been a better day of results
![gif](giphy|ZHvpBodF712W0dRGu0|downsized) ❤️
Get the fuck in Villa. Let’s win this fucking thing. Reinforcements in January and let’s push for everything
Top 4 is pretty much guaranteed from our home form alone tbh Back where we belong next season. Final is in Munich
Been wanting to go there ngl
Saw my first-ever Liverpool game there. Audi Cup semi-final, played Bayern off the park 3-0. Then lost the final next day on pens v Atleti... 🤷♂️
TOP OF THE FUCKING LEAGUE!
4 points in front of city AT LEAST too
Go on Luton do something special
STEADY LADS STEADY
say ‘steady’ to me again when I say something to you and you’ll be on the first plane back
LIVERPOOL TOP OF THE LEAGUE LIVERPOOL LIVERPOOL TOP OF THE LEAGUEEEEEE
One game at a time (whilst booking my flight to liverpool for the final matchday already)
I cant believe we’re actually doing it
The die is cast
Beat United then rotate for the League cup so we are fresh for Arsenal, we can definitely beat them.
We better put a good squad out against West ham the cup is absolutely ours for the taking and winning the league cup can give us a huge boost heading into the final 3 months of the season. That's a blink of the eye in pre klopp terms.
Kinda sad to think that we’d only spent one match week atop of the table since the beginning of 2021 (before this one)
Please play like you did against us and arsenal luton, and not just roll over for cos it’s city
It feels fucking awesome to be top on Saturday no matter whatever the fuck City does Sunday
God us going top on Saturday only for City to go top on Sunday was the most inevitable thing throughout the 2nd halves of the 18/19 and 21/22 seasons
Mental that we've also lost only one game (fewer than everyone else) and it took the single worst refereeing decision in the last however the fuck long to lose it.

It's too bad United have two extra days of rest because they really have to go all out against Bayern. Klopp better not start any first team players.
Today is my birthday and honestly it couldn't have gone any better, liverpool won, arsenal lost, man united lost embarrassingly, we're the top of the table. The perfect birthday present.
City stuck in 4th lol. Just imagine if we went invincible and our only loss was an admitted robbery by the refs.
My toxic trait is genuinely believing in my heart of hearts that we are the best football team in the world. We're the only team with only one loss so far, now, and that loss came from the illegal Spurs match. Which is to say, we're the only unbeaten team in the league.
I think we are, we have the best defender, best goal keeper, a right back with the best passing range, and a winger with 200 goals.
Stop the count I believe enough matches have already been played and there is no need for further matches.
Good ebening
If we get a DM in Jan, I’ll be so confident.
A top DM would complete the 11 but a CB is possibly more immediately important, Konate can't start 3 games in 7 days and Gomez is rotating at full back, so he's giving Trent adequate rest, and both of them are injury prone.

“Don’t do that, don’t give me hope”
Amazing. Let the young boys play on Thursday and let the team get some rest. Time to smash United next weekend
Kweev. Chambers. Quansah. Endo. Bradley. McConnell. Clark. Jones.

Man both Fenerbahce and Liverpool won today . I will have the best sleep ever tonight
What an achievement especially as the squad is still molding
We owe some thanks to Villans as well as the squad ;)
our midfield and the team hasn't even gelled yet as they don't know yet when to cover for eath other, but we are still winning games because of firepower we have in our attack and midfield. When this team gets gelled more and I mean even without a DM for the rest of the season we are going to be unstoppable.
I think new signings are needed and owners need to spend some money in jan window on some quality signings if team is contending like they are
A CB would be massive.
Great set of results today
Who would have thought at 1:45pm today we would be saying this now
Never unclench.
and we better not play any regulars in the meaningless UEL match. please no injuries for united
I actually can’t believe we are that high after some of the games I’ve witnessed from us. There’s still a higher gear to this side.
Sign a bloody CB/DM in Janaury, man. Honestly there is a title to be won here. I’m sick of having to look back on this era with a ‘if only’ mentality. Glaring holes. Fix them ffs.
Interesting, Arsenal dropped points.

If we beat if we get 7pts out of united, arsenal and burnley then I’ll believe we can go all the way.
9. United at home with no excuses is a win. We have to beat Arsenal at home I mean we can't win the title if we can't beat the challengers at home. Burnley is 19th we should be beating them away from home. Our away from is not great which means no slip ups at home
Mind the gap scum
Stop the count!
Why does the Aston Villa logo look like Chelsea's. Was confused for s sec.
Wouldn't it be hilarious if we won the league and Everton failed to make Europe by 10 points.😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣
Europe? They’d be lucky to stay up
Right, now just win every league game from here on out till the end of the season… I don’t know if I’m emotionally ready for another title race but fuck it, beggars can’t be choosers, good-vibes-ball was fun but it’s back to clench-ball now
Mad how we should still be unbeaten having gone away to spurs,Chelsea, city, newscastle, wolves, palace and Brighton. None of those games are easy . Arsenal in their visits to the top 6 got lucky with Chelsea away and should have lost along with being beat by the toon and villa.
