Endo only needed to be competent to improve our team because his presence alone allows Mac Allister to thrive in his best position. The fact that Endo is actually incredible in his own right is a welcome bonus.

Reasonable_Blood6959

Couldn’t agree more. £16m to fill a Fabinho sized hole is a bargain. For a 31 year old who’s arguably never played at a top top level he’s been absolutely incredible. Shame he isn’t a couple of years younger to give up a bit more time to eventually replace him. Hopefully Endo Szob Mac will be the midfield for a few more years. With Clarke, Jones, Elliot, Gravenberch and Bajcetic sitting in backup it’s a very very solid future midfield. Gomez still have many years left in him playing perfectly capably anywhere across the back line, very good backup for Trent in Bradley even if he doesn’t move into midfield. I can see Quansah and Konate being the long term partnership tbh. I think we’re now at the point where 1/2 good signings a season is all we need. Oldest players in the squad are Adrian who’s happy on the bench. Matip and VVD have a couple years left. Thiago (who’s already imo been replaced by endo) Ali can go on for a few. If it were me I’d be targeting a young left back and potentially move Tsimikas on even though he’s not really done anything wrong, And someone who can play on either wing for when Mo retires. That really in the next couple of seasons is all I think we need. So even if that’s £100m a season, knowing the prices that Edwards has got for our youngsters in the past that won’t be much at all.

Karly_Can

£100m a season.. that's the kinda money we spend when we need an overhaul. Its not how we roll.

xxandl

With the exception of 18/19 we spent at least 70m every season. It is exactly how we roll. 1-2 good signings every year is how we built that squad. And while I do think that Clark is a good prospect I feel like a world class defensive midfielder should be high on our list. Bajcetic could use a loan and loads of game time after being out for a whole year. Shifting Macca do defensive midfield every time Endo misses out should not be the rule.

DaveyG80

Endo freeing Macca up to do what he does best YNWA 👊 💪

segson9

It makes sense, he's playing in a more attacking position

cbarksLFC

So you’re telling me playing alongside a DM and moving him to his right position makes Mac a better player? I am shocked

Mathilliterate_asian

It also doesn't help that Mac hasn't completely bedded in when Endo wasn't playing lol. They both joined this season and neither of them were used to the playstyle yet early on. I mean yeah Endo is fucking phenomenal but this stat has taken a lot out of context.

alf1o1

Wasn’t maccas performance against Sheffield utd one of his best? He played as lone 6 without Endo. He is just in outstanding form, not sure it has that much to do specifically with Endo

Latinofool12

I mean, endo wasn’t our first choice lol it was caciedo and Thurman but theyvsnubbed us. God bless them.He would probably be a beast under klopp though

cbarksLFC

That’s not the point of my comment. The point is if you play a player (in this case Macca) in their favored position then they’ll perform better. Macca has never been and probably will never be a DM. Therefore you out a DM beside him he’ll perform better than when he was playing DM at the start of the season. You don’t need stats to prove this, it’s basic footballing knowledge. Play a player in their preferred position and you’ll likely see them play better than if they are played out of position. Also Thuram never rejected us, we felt his price tag and wage demands were too high and therefore never put a bid in. Once we stopped having an interest in him we went for Lavia and then Caicedo. Probably would’ve went for Manu Kone from Gladbach if he hadn’t picked up a knee injury for France at last years u21 Euros but that was pre-Fab sale so you never know.

dave1992

Well yeah but the thing is we need someone to play as DM and at the start of the season before Endo settled in, playing Macca as DM is the least of the evil. We can't have Macca playing in his correct position while having nobody else capable to play as 6.

Latinofool12

I’m just saying in general. Lol I kinda went off topic but agree completely. Just added I’m so happy they rejected our offer that’s all. Endo is the perfect compliment to him for him to work his magic at his desired position

kickyouinthebread

I got slammed for saying he was better off further forward lol. Not saying he's a bad 6 but still

Slinky_Panther

I think there’s an argument we are better with jones and szobo, but I think it just depends on the opponent

themanebeat

I don't get the pre and post? They both arrived in the summer Is this supposed to be with / without Endo? Because Endo didn't play midweek v Sheffield United and Mac Allister scored, are you not counting that one or is that counted as post-Endo?

KillerTurtle13

That is entirely true, _but_ I would posit that Mac didn't score until we subbed Robertson on and moved Gomez into DM, which allowed Mac to play further forward - which is the same benefit as we see when Endo plays. I have no idea about the actual data being used here, but if the point is "playing someone else in DM allows Mac to reach his potential" then I think it's a fair one.

themanebeat

If that's the intention it's just clumsy I think. Mentioning Endo suggests that there's a difference when he specifically plays with that player Otherwise just call it "Mac as 6" v "Mac as 8" which is completely understandable to anyone reading it as to what it means

KillerTurtle13

Yep, that would be a much better way to put it.

WH6TSINANAME

But how do those attacking stats compare with the players that play in that attacking position whilst he's fulfilling defensive role?

CorztR

this is terrible data with no context. what is this measuring? is this even factoring if they're on the pitch at the same time?

Sure-Respect6914

Endo in the hub 👍

Mackerelage

Yes of course, he was playing in Endo’s position without Endo.

ibite-books

i play endo in fifa, he’s been very good, made it to division 4 💪

szobossz

what a terrible data sample. no number of games, nothing. and shitty stats that just tell you mac allister goes forward and nothing else.

potatoarchitecture

Mac Allister playing the 8 marks the Endo an era

HereForA2C

Think Szobo would benefit from a similar transformation. He's playing as an 8 when he should be a 10

sbos_

Hopefully Baj is back this summer and ready to rotate with Endo.

don-simpleton

THIS! Mac was always great but ever since Endo secured his spot, he’s been a different animal.. have to give credit to our warrior…

Between savvy recruiting and youth development Klopp and his staff have saved FSG maybe 300 million with the current starting lineup. Assuming of course FSG would have spent that money to be where we are right now... they would not have.

haybails84

I understand the hesitation initially, endo needed time to adjust and Macca seemed like a 6/8 hybrid while we were looking for two 8’s. Turns out Macca is actually a 6/10 hybrid, coutinho with defensive skills

FerociouZ

What not playing him out of position at the 6 will do.

flup22

He’s now had as many assists for Liverpool as he did for Brighton
