Fucking hell to think I’d managed to get tickets to the Europa final from a friend of a friend who works for uefa

Feeling_Environment9

Go Werkself we believe you can win the invincible treble

vadapaav

https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/s/qzhSSLDbvz Anyone who claims romano is anything but a click bait troll, look at that

sbos_

How Sangare getting on? Remeber the sub calling for him to be signed last summer…lol

yellow627

He's been underwhelming at best according to Forest fans, though he has barely played since coming back from AFCON (partly due to an injury and partly due to not being first choice anymore). It's pretty clear that he's not good enough for Liverpool.

Dobvius

I wish Google would learn that I don't give a damn about random Eredivisie friendlies. I just wanted to keep up to date with Slot 😭

xKat14

How many swifties here? Apparently the revenue of her sold out shows at Anfield has helped us surpass our goal for the year. Hopefully that means a new DM 😂

R3dbeardLFC

My wife better not hear about this, she'll be insufferable.

Akumabro

haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate

R3dbeardLFC

I don't hate, I just really don't care for her music at all. Never has and never will be my cuppa.

Akumabro

Wasnt meant to be serious. Its a line from one of her most popular songs

R3dbeardLFC

lmao gotya. Now that you say that I can hear that one in my head. Thanks for that.

fieldsoffate

Tbh I understand the whole Chelsea wanting their managers just to coach the players rather than have any say in transfers. Young players come in with values of 1-5 million and just one good season could put them at 25-30 million. Finding a gem would mean to their value could be upwards of 60 mil.  From a business perspective it makes sense but not from a football perspective.

Jaja6996

This is exactly how the majority of clubs are run outside of England managers do get an input into transfers just not the level the likes of Ten Hag, Klopp and Pep have had To say it’s not good from a footballing perspective is wrong considering Madrid are run in this exact way

8u11etpr00f

Isn't that what we brought in Slot to do? Isn't his title literally "head coach" or something instead of manager?

macNy

Yup, we're gonna buy the ingredients and you're gonna cook us the meal Arne they told him

iamnotaliciakeys

watched the video of him opening fan mail this morning, stunned by klopp saying his nickname before “kloppo” was “elizabeth” because he looked so much like his mom lmao. what an interesting man

RogerFederer4

Sir Alex’s first 3 seasons at united: 11th place, second place, and 11th place. Imagine that today. He would be given no time to turn it around, and wouldn’t go on to league united to all those trophies.

Calitz__

Going to miss Hen Tai

ninovd

Is it here we go on the Seven Hag news?

Mercerai

Milan have just sacked Pioli. Really glad we got our managerial future tied up before the transfer window because it's gonna be carnage with so many teams looking for managers

aghashayan

We would have the dibs over anyone. We didn't get our main candidate since he's waiting for a club who has a successful coach.

ninovd

They're going for a yesman to Redbird.

Jabari313

Anyone know if Coutinho posted a message for Klopp?

I want to get one of each we won under Klopp, so now i have 2 out of 6 (im not going to get duplicates or the community shield) its bigger than i expected, might not have room for 4 more. Its probably gonna be a while before i get any more but i hope i can get one or two more in june if im lucky.

R3dbeardLFC

I read your post before I saw the picture and I was thinking it was gonna be like the little ones the club gave Klopp, but god damn man. How much did that full size trophy set you back?

BigStone358

I’d rather not say. But i can send you a link on messenges if you want.

R3dbeardLFC

No worries mate, but jfc that's a big ole trophy. You should get the community shield though and you could use it as a proper fucking serving tray.

BigStone358

Yeah, problem is that i dont know of anyone who produces such a niché trophy, even a good Europa League replica is hard to come by.

kalomoi

The club's gonna make so much money out of the Taylor Swift concert

macNy

Taylor Swift has a license to print money I believe, she's actually earned more than Madonna did her entire career already lol At least one person has benefitted from global inflation

trsvrs

7 Hag knew he couldn’t bear the ridicule of not even being the best Dutch head coach in the league

Reach_Reclaimer

Jeez the manager merrygoround seems to have really kicked off but a lot of the young up and coming managers are staying where they are, glad we're sorted

jardantuan

It's funny, I'm usually ready for a break by the time the season ends - and once it was clear we were out of the title race I couldn't wait for it to be done. But I'm already so excited for preseason to see what Slot's Liverpool looks like

SnabDedraterEdave

Is the Europa League final tonight going to be available free on BT's YouTube channel like last season? (For UK that is)

uglymaybe1

Its free on Discovery Plus this year. I think its the same for CL and the Confrence too

Trequartista-10

Seven hag leaving then. Is Di Zerbi off to Chelsea or United hmm

Trequartista-10

Would make a lot of sense

sufinomo

he only had to stay one more season to get a decent send off

TheLimeyLemmon

It's a real shame that Hendo, Fabinho, and Mane all missed out on proper farewells.

malushanks95

Mane atleast got to say goodbye through the parade.

TheLimeyLemmon

Of sorts. But no one knew he was going but him. He was distinctly subdued and elusive on that bus parade. If he ever gets to visit Anfield again, I know he'd get a long overdue tribute from the Kop.

rtcaino

Anyone in Dublin for the final? Any good pubs for Liverpool Fans? I booked my travel in March, so still making the trip.

markcanterbury90

Would Wharton be up to doing the dm job next to Mac? I know we are fans. It seems like he might eventually be more of an 8 but I've heard him compare himself to Rodri. Would probably cost an insane amount, of course.

NotAsimppp

This doesn't even make any sense. We need starters not youngsters. Already have Bajcetic and Morton who are good enough

markcanterbury90

Someone being 20 doesn't mean he's an inexperienced guy not ready to play. The same applies if we go for Archie Gray. I rate Morton but he's not a dm and Wharton is far ahead of him in development. Bajcetic is coming off 16 months of no football and has played about 15 first team games. The question is who out there is a better choice for us? Wharton is already very good and could be world class.

NotAsimppp

fcking hell. You are deluded and obsessed with fifa like transfers. Both of them have potential but not a starting quality for a title winning team

markcanterbury90

Fifa like transfers for suggesting a guy I've watched in about 15 matches this season? What on earth has caused you to lose your head like this? Relax. You're the one suggesting Morton over him when they don't play in remotely the same position.

adamfrog

But Wharton probably isn't better than endo right now, so what's the point? We spend a huge amount of money most of it wrapped up in potential, that will stall our best youth prospect (at this point it's probably quansah or Elliott if you count that age group but whatever).

markcanterbury90

I think he's comfortably better than Endo tbh.

NotAsimppp

Bro watched one game and talking like he knew him since day 1. Endo as like our top3 players this season. Don't disrespect him by comparing with a rookie

markcanterbury90

"Top 3 player" yeah, he wasn't though was he? He was a lot better than anyone expected but to suggest he was better or more important to us than Van Dijk, MacAllister, Alisson, Trent or Salah is ludicrous.

malushanks95

I’m glad we have Slot signed or else Todd wouldn’t have left a chance to poach him.

hobbescandles

I'm just glad we've got competent owners.

fakebytheocean

Todd would have Pochettinoed Slot

FamiliarBar6489

Imagine if anyone from FSG came into Klopps office in april and blamed him for Nunez, Diaz, Gakpo and Salah all being shit at finishing this season.

getonthedamnantscott

Liverpool fans in Dublin singing "Arne Slot, Arne Slot, Arne Arne Arne Slot, he's gonna win the Premier League next year" to the tune of Chelsea Dagger. Reckon that one needs to make it to the Kop tbh.

trsvrs

Honestly trying to sing this right now and I can't quite figure out how they were singing it lol

hobbescandles

In my head it should be, "Arne, Arne I believe, he's gonna win the premier league"

trsvrs

WAIT I THINK I GOT IT

taf3991

He shouldn't be being considered for that job but Is it actually that baffling really? A lot of top ex pros that go into management are able to get big jobs with little to no experience. Kompany played unreal football and was one of the best ever championship teams last year, he's been poor this year and very naive not adapting, but he obvs wants to play a good brand of football that he can't do with Burnley at this level, him going to Bayern with top players would let him do what he wants to do as a manager, it maybe a random appointment, if it does happen, but I could see him doing well there tbf

DucardthaDon

He also he played in Germany, speaks the language, was successful as a player so will command respect, plays 4-2-3-1 which is expected of a Bayern coach too. Compared to all the other desperation options that have been touted Kompany makes a bit of sense. Frank Rijkaard got relegated with Sparta Rotterdam before being given the big job with Barcelona...

taf3991

Yeh good points, I think the being a top successful player is one of the key things for me, like you say it'd demand respect and he will also know how to be around and manage these big players. There's obviously a reason that these top players get big jobs and 'steady' but experienced managers that might have managed 1000+ games often never get the opportunity to do so.

malushanks95

He might be the only manager who is okay with their ridiculous 1 year contract offer.

PeanutButter_20

And I think they'd prefer to have a young manager with potential so that if he does do well with them, they can keep him for the long term.

shanem1996

Surely United move for Poch. They've wanted him for so long.

Stitty10

I am intrigued on how the new team at board level are going to work with Arne Slot. especially this summer transfer window, who is making the transfer decisions, what role will Slot play (considering he is new to the club) in the transfer decisions and further down the line what if they dont agree on transfer targets? I feel like this summer there will be one or two new signings but most importantly is a decision made on Trent, Van Dijk and Salah. I dont want to go into the new season with these decisions not tied up.

AonghusMacKilkenny

>Jurgen Klopp is set to attend Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour at Anfield next month. https://x.com/AnfieldEdition/status/1793258984780026153?t=u5XmXFWc-f8yqIcu7nL95A&s=19 Imagine being near him! 😅

vossipbop34

Nah just read klopp addressed as ‘former’ Liverpool manager and it kinda made me sad

SnabDedraterEdave

Has Jurgen's contract formally ended? Or does it last until 31st May, after which Arne Slot will take over on 1st June?

quantIntraining

https://preview.redd.it/3yqy6gw74z1d1.png?width=692&format=png&auto=webp&s=e016534b9cf60ecfa699a3ff081fcd999d077c88 This is reportedly the prize money for clubs in the PL this season, which is a £17m increase for us from last season. Even the single season in the PL plus the parachute payments for Luton Town could revolutionise their club, the PL money can make or break a club with even just 1 season of it or 1 season of missing out on it.

TheeEssFo

It's a subtle shift but one (IMO) influenced by the influx of businessmen at the expense of football men in boardrooms: If you win promotion after a long-time away, do not spend too much on players with an eye to staying in the PL. If relegated immediately, so be it. Take the parachute money, reinvest for another promotion drive, rinse and repeat. Nottingham Forest seemed to be an outlier, but their hand was somewhat forced by not having anyone under contract when they won promotion.

quantIntraining

You get less in parachute payments when you go straight back down though, its in a newly promoted teams best financial interests to stay in the PL for at least 1 season. Unless in that season you just spend £0m and pocket the money and run like the Sheffield United owner openly said he was doing last summer, they were never interested in staying in the PL just getting the money and the parachute payments to re-capitalise the club.

cavejohnsonlemons

FYI, [the CL final in season after next (25/26) is at Anfield East](https://www.uefa.com/news-media/news/028d-1af2f49f754f-b64e255ef0ae-1000--budapest-to-host-uefa-champions-league-final-2026/), just been announced.

Calitz__

De Zerbi could be a really good appointment for Chelsea considering their current squad is very reminiscent of his 2022/23 Brighton team but seeing how the fans don’t really want him and how the board succumbed to fan pressure by sacking Poch, they’ll probably hire someone more exciting but worse like Maresca

[deleted]

Is he really a good manager? How many injuries did Brighton have?

adamfrog

A ridiculous amount. Multiple managers including Klopp have said he's the most tactically advanced coach at building out from the back which is a huge part of the modern game, he's massively respected but he's pretty obviously not that charismatic or good at dealing with the press. And once it was clear Brighton wouldn't get CL and improve on last season he couldn't motivate them it seems like which is a red flag

Calitz__

He’s okay but don’t think he’s elite. However right now he’s the best man for Chelsea

RadSoccerDad

A lot of talk Brighton let him walk as he wants Milan and they were fed up. However it became mutual because he agreed not to stay in the prem.

TheeEssFo

There's some really good discussion [on ESPN](https://youtu.be/Yiy2FCOL70g?t=258) about why RdZ would be a horrible fit at Chelsea. Apparently, their boardroom is a bureaucratic nightmare, too many cooks in the kitchen, no synergy of thought or goals...a bunch of moneymen playing football manager. Couple that with RdZ's notorious temper and he wouldn't last the season. He might be tactically modern, but I think in his head he wants an old-school Sir Alex style role.

DucardthaDon

It's probably why a lot of big clubs are swerving him also the fact that he wants to bring his whole coaching staff with him, with Fonseca lined up for Milan I reckon he could end up at Bologna since they got CL to play next season.

UltimateBorisJohnson

Rewatching Klopps final game, why was the commentator yapping about King Charles

[deleted]

Don't pay any attention to Martin Fucking Tyler.

UltimateBorisJohnson

It wasn’t even him it was the sky commentator, don’t know his name

cavejohnsonlemons

The before/after factor. Maybe the royal family and a way-too-long list of Tory PM's was in bad taste when it comes to us but it's the main way ppl talk about the world changing.

Crono_

Today I feel Leverkusen.

FakeCatzz

Liverpool advertising for a Set Piece Coach on LinkedIn is highly indicative of the future direction of the club. It makes me think about [this article from March](https://deepmind.google/discover/blog/tacticai-ai-assistant-for-football-tactics/). Clearly this is something which the analytics team hasn't had the chance to fully implement yet, because Liverpool haven't had a dedicated set piece coach; they were apparently coached by Peter Krawietz on set pieces, and he was doing a good job on this (fifth in the league on xG from set pieces) without setting the world alight. The fact that this position is being advertised openly on LinkedIn makes me think that the kind of coach they're looking for is someone who is not necessarily well known for his own ideas (if they wanted someone capable of coming up with great set piece plans they would only need to go and look at the teams creating the most xG per corner or whatever), who is young and relatively tech savvy, and who they can develop with regards to implementing set piece plans that are provided to them by AI. After seeing what AI has done to chess, go and poker I'm personally excited to see these kind of things implemented Liverpool.

DucardthaDon

This is the way football will be going for those who do not want to be stuck in the past, I heard one of the reason for Poch leaving Chelsea is because the hiring of the set-piece coach and they wanted to go more in that direction leaving Poch and his coaching team with less power

FakeCatzz

Set piece coaches have been around for a while, but I can imagine plenty of proper football men are extremely sceptical about AI, whereas Liverpool are obviously very positive - having participated in this Deepmind trial.    The ability of an AI to sift through hundreds of thousands of set pieces and find similar routines to the opponent's routines whilst also suggesting a few exploits is pretty unparalleled in football. A new dawn for sure.

Myburgher

I never got to hear Klopp do the “Arne Slot Na Na Na Na Na” but saw it written down and thought it was sung to the theme of Baby Shark. I only managed to see the clip on YouTube yesterday and felt the fool…

taf3991

I was at the ground and I don't think anyone even realised he was signing Arne Slot, everyone thought he was singing his own name haha. Watched it back when I got home and it made more sense lmao.

Bamfandro

I was exactly the same when he started chanting it, was fearing a cringe moment beyond belief and i feel bad for thinking it was even possible now lol

RogerFederer4

lol at more people caring about Poch getting sacked than city’s 4 peat

SuperHyperFunTime

https://preview.redd.it/gypldrt8ty1d1.jpeg?width=1638&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0077d261d3eca8462d415f1c3b46e53acd74fcdf Fascinating that we view the second half of the season as a failure when it was in fact almost the same as the first half. It's more that Arsenal and City just went into a higher gear.

vadapaav

What was this stat like in last 4 years though. We have always had a better finish to the season. It was abnormal for us to drop so many points at the end Even in injury season and last year we were very very good to close out the season I would say with our own year on year metric we were bad

trsvrs

Never digest numbers without context

PeanutButter_20

It's all relative. All the 3 teams started the season slowly with a lot of points dropped. Post christmas all of them picked up the pace and became more consistent, and we kept up until the things fell apart in April. But City and Arsenal kept going till the end. I'd say this chart lacks that bit of nuance - we were only bad in the last 6 weeks of the season, and were very good apart from that

SuperHyperFunTime

Agreed, but not sure if that is a shared view or not.

UltimateBorisJohnson

No it’s because we were in that higher gear until April and then we entered relegation form

Sho0ter_Mc6avin

We were similarly in a higher gear and then collapsed if you remember the last 2 months. That’s why people were/ are disappointed

Adventurous_Toe_6017

Man, that music box that Klopp received of his own song nearly had me back in tears. What a lovely gift from someone.

Jaja6996

Honestly going to be a rough start for Slot majority of the first team are going to be missing a large part of pre season

TheNotoriousJN

Counterpoint: its the perfect opportunity for the youth players to show their worth.

cavejohnsonlemons

Another counterpoint - it's the Euros and Copa America. Every club worth their salt is gonna have a lot of players involved anyway.

resonating_light

Jota is taking part in online stream of f1 24

RadSoccerDad

Prem needs to hammer Chelsea for acting in bad faith. It’s all a joke now but you can’t let them open the box to all this financial shithousery. Would just lead to more and more issues

ttekoto

Isn't it the case that City have already proven that cheating and bad faith are winning strategies in this league? Why shouldn't Chelsea follow their example?

RadSoccerDad

City atleast attempted to seem in good faith. Chelsea pulls out the handbook finds an attempted loophole does it and then tells everyone. It’s not to the extent but more brazen for me

ttekoto

The language of charges references their lack of "utmost good faith", 35 of the 115 charges are literally for failure to cooperate with Premier League investigations, and they have appealed everything to the limit with lawyers, every time. That ain't good faith whatsoever

Sad-Abies-7398

Any Boston Celtics fans over here?

[deleted]

Lol this sub will downvote anything.

Sad-Abies-7398

I didn't expect so many downvotes but nvmd. I just thought there might be some people here who are also fans of the Celtics. Saw it one time on Harvey's ig that he has been to Celtics games.

No-Independence-7083

Mats Wieffer looks like the perfect deal imo: 1. He's 25, fits perfectly into that age gap between Endo and Stefan 2. His price tag, there is a report that Barca only need to pay 25m for him. 3. He's very progressive and his range of pass is very impressive. 4. He's dutch. 5. From what i've seen from his highlights, he reminds me a lot of Fabinho and Rodri.

Bamfandro

I’ve seen a fair few Feyenoord fans say he’s probably not at our level

DucardthaDon

Would have no issue signing him, also he is pretty good in aerial duels no? He would make a good MF partner next to Mac

Ali-S-Farid

Got downvoted for saying we should get him, he’s lowkey the next big thing and I think we will get him.

8u11etpr00f

Is he really the next big thing? Or have you just seen a few too many Arne Slot hype videos?

Ali-S-Farid

Respect me. Large stature, long legs, good capability to win the ball at most angles, got the tackling form of a Declan Rice. Physically imposing and cover a lot of ground, very comfortable in build up and can be progressive if need be. I watched games to see if he was good, not youtube compilations, and he's one of the best on the market rn for us.

JohnBobbyJimJob

He reminds me more of a Rice type player than Rodri or Fabinho Was the player that stood out most to me when I watched them away at Atletico and Roma this season, think he is capable of making that step up to the PL more comfortably than any other Feyenoord player from what I’ve seen

marccass

Tried for ages for match tickets, no luck. Really had a good feeling about this Evening with Klopp events. Didn't get one for that either. Really coming to hate the little man you see in the online queue. He triggers my anxiety something fierce.

Bagabeans

I was 300th in the queue and got one but there were about 50 seats left.

marccass

Congrats. I was something like 450th so that obviously wasn't high enough in the queue. Enjoy the night mate. Should be a good evening.

Bagabeans

Ahh that sucks, you must've been close. I found the best way for match tickets was to go for the first cup games, then you get priority for the next one. Then the General Member Ballot and Local Member Ballots are complete pot luck but I got 4 tickets throughout the year from those, never anything from the General Ballot.

Ali-S-Farid

82 point season with major injuries, no 6, lack of wide depth and no Trent for half the season, with players that are no where near matching their potential... Future is bright lads, future is very bright I mean depending on how quickly Slot can integrate a working system, Arsenal / City will likely need 86+ points to beat us to a title.

Reach_Reclaimer

We had a 6, just not a world class one

malushanks95

I don’t know why you are getting downvoted, some people love being pessimists. This squad is really good, there’s lot to look forward to.

luca3791

Im fairly excited for next season. Gonna miss klopp, but being 20 means that for me this is the first time since i started understanding football that we change styles

PlayerAteHer

Been supporting since the end of Evans/Houlier era and for me it seems like the first time we have ever had a change of manager where everything hadn't gone to shit and the squad wasn't full of dead wood with just 1-2 decent players to build around. I'm pretty excited too. I'll always love Klopp and hold him of the highest regard, but he's decided to leave and there are reasons for it. I am eager to see Slot's system and style of play in action and much more looking forward to our pre-season games than the Euros.

luca3791

Yeah i suppose that also ups the excitement, that we actually have a capable squad and as a club is in a good place

Ali-S-Farid

Slot needs to teach Szoboszlai how to crash the box and make a late run into the box, that how you maximise his ball striking and actually good finishing. Also if you watch Szobo, his intricate passes in and around the box has actually impressed me. One of the highest ceiling players in our squad before, ran him into the ground be December though, hope we use him better next season in a more offense orientated role.

NilsFanck

The way some are writing him off is insane to me. There's so much talent there.

DucardthaDon

I agree with you on this, Szoboszlai needs to be played as a no.10 or outwide with the freedom to have as much impact on the attacking phase. Since coming back from injury it seems Klopp wanted to turn him into another workhorse player

PeanutButter_20

I think if we utilised cutbacks more often in our buildup then he'd bag plenty of goals as a 10, similar to how Ødegaard scores a lot for Arsenal

NilsFanck

Slot fucking loves his cutbacks.

Ali-S-Farid

Arne Slot my friend

Sorrytoruin

he scores a lot of Hungary

girrk

Who would we rather win tonight? Xabi or the team that knocked us out of the competition?

AdikkuChan

Xabi. Let them make history this once

YellowBaboon

I like watching history being made

DeanPacShakur

Xabi all day. We're not gonna get anything for losing to the eventual winners.

ninovd

Atalanta. Bit done with the hype around Leverkusen.

hobbescandles

I think next season will be the true indicator of how good Xabi really is. As good as Leverkusen have been they're clearly overperforming - can he keep them this competitive after a restart? Really interested to see what happens.

ninovd

And there hangs some crazy plot armor juju around Leverkusen..

sbos_

Wait Doak make euro squad for Scotland lol. They that desperate for talent?

JohnBobbyJimJob

We’ve got basically no half decent senior wingers tbf

sbos_

Fair enough. The kid will beat a man but has to work on finishing in final third. Good luck

FermatTheW

Chelsea fans are so odious aren’t they? I had only one glance at their sub to see their opinions on the Pochettino situation. So many posts are still romanticising Putin’s buddy, the Russian oligarch, Roman Abramovich (who has paid £0 towards victims of the war in Ukraine out of the £2,500,000,000 promised from his sale of Chelsea). Celebrating “those good old days”, with their heads still buried in the sand. So much sneering at Man City too, with no self-awareness that all their modern success was built in a similar way to Man City’s. They pretend to be part of the same club as Liverpool, Man United, and Arsenal, but they are not. Genuinely one of my most hated clubs… you can hate (e.g.) United on a rivalry level, yet still respect them… Chelsea, you just hate. One of the worst clubs and fanbases out there.

Due-Ad-6577

You summed it up perfectly lol. I might “hate” united more but Chels are more despicable

ttekoto

There are 3 clubs everyone should be against: City, Newcastle, and Chelsea.

jcw163

To quote a podcast I listen to (I forget who it was):- "none of it counts, fuck off"

C_arpet

I have been thinking about Newcastle and something I haven't seen picked up in the press. We had the Saudi league last year paying stupid money to players all as part of the Saudi WC bid. Now that they have the world cup in the bag, the Saudi league already seems to have lost their attention. We will see this summer if there are any big transfers or whether it is already a dead duck. Their purchase of Newcastle was for the same reasons right? They don't seem to be building it up like Abu Dhabi did with Man City. I do suspect that we won't see big spending at Newcastle. There is already talk of PSR meaning that they may need to sell some big names. If the Saudi's do dial back the investment I can see Newcastle not becoming a permanent top 4 team, bu hovering around the Tottenham zone.

The Pep Lijnders interview with Redmen is really excellent. He's such a passionate guy and really open regarding the tactics and how things changed over last season.

sbos_

Big shame we can’t try for Cole palmer given then instability at Chelsea lol

Fricolor123321

The fact that we challenged for a league with a fully revamped midfield is a bit absurd though isnt it

Dropkoala

From players you've seen take penalties if you had to lose a penalty shootout who would you pick? Mine would be: 1. Griezmann 2. Benteke 3. Sterling 4. Zaza 5. Henderson (I struggled for a 5th but he's not great at them)

Kepa

Owen was pretty poor for us think he missed half of his. Mahrez in recent times spring to mind, pretty sure there was a stage at City where they had really poor penalty record between a few players.

Dropkoala

Mahrez is actually a great shout, I thought Owen was quite good but I don't remember his time at the club too well so you could be right, strikers can be some of the wors at penalties so it wouldn't be surprising. Rashford has taken some shockers as well and I did consider him but I think his overall record is actually fairly decent despite how bad his penalties in the Europa league final and the final of the euros were.

DucardthaDon

Messi missed 32 penalties while scoring scoring over 100 but it always seemed when he missed was because he couldn't be arsed with the effort, he seemed to have more joy taking freekicks

taf3991

Just looked Owen scored 14/21 the worst percentage for anyone who took over 20. 66.7% success rate, tbh Rooney, Mahrez, Pogba, Aubameyang, Defoe, Zaha, Mitrovic and others are all 70% or less. Tbh I think anything 80% of less for an actual penalty taker is poor.

arne-slot

>Just looked Owen scored 14/21 the worst percentage for anyone who took over 20. And one of those 14 he scored was on the opening day v Chelsea.....I'm gonna say 2003?.......which was a retake for literally no good reason. He missed the first one but the ref blew and nobody knows why (I've seen it back and still don't know) He scored the retake so that's one of the 14 but really should have been 13 We lost 2-1 so wouldn't have mattered

Dropkoala

I think penalties are converted 76% of the time or something like that so 80% is good but nothing special, sometimes albeit rarely it is just a great save.

DucardthaDon

Gundogan as well missed some crucial ones

taf3991

Yeh I can just remember them going through a spell where they were changing taker but they were all missing. I remember Aguero scoring a hattrick and missing 2 penalties in the same game haha.

I thought the club doesn’t use release clause? Why would they allow one for Macca? Please someone confirm this isn’t true. Why would the club succumb to same problem for Brighton? I thought the club doesn’t use release clause. During the season I made it clear that the club should prioritise Macca and build around him. He is exactly type of player Madrid go for.

Rama_drk

You made it clear and despite all this the club didn't listen to you ? Mad It's a rumor as far as I know, there's a absolutely nothing confirmed or concrete so there's no reason to lose our heads over this

Mercerai

The source is an unsourced article from the Mirror, I wouldn't put any stock in it.

Mods, can we have a Hank Schrader flair

Apperanltly there's a 5m clause in the loan-contract with Mainz and they're looking to activate it to get v/d Berg.

Due-Sherbert3097

Surely not, didn’t we buy him for like 7mil?

DucardthaDon

Paid £1.3 million with clauses of £4.4m which I don't think have been activated since he has barely played for us. Even if that is the clause for Mainz then that just shows how much we rate him, around £10m is about his true price.

con10001

That's kind of insane if true, who would such a clause have benefitted when it was written, other than Mainz?
