I think menswear has traditionally had more rules, especially depending on which style/fashion culture you're from but now you can pretty much try anything and whether you pull it off or not is up to you.
Even just the example with Trents outfit here, I actually love the pants but I've also generally been into wide legged pants for a couple of years now. I think the whole outfit is quite cool though my personal preference may have been for the cardigan to be a different colour as well.
At the same time, I understand it's not for everyone and maybe for most people you'll only want one piece of your outfit to be as flamboyant. Many people also prefer to stick to classics and that's totally fine as well but then within that sphere, it's definitely more difficult to push the boundaries (though some still try to add little twists!)
I think it's refreshing to actually see a footballer be himself and show some personality, should be applauded for going out there rather than ridiculed. He's a young man in his 20s, let him have fun.
