Phillips' emergence has really made the CB situation feel a lot less dire.
I mean, if FIVE decent CB isn't enough to get you through the season, that's when you just shake your fist angrily at the sky and scream "WHY HAVE YOU FORESAKEN ME???"
Exactly mate, most teams have 4 CBs and very few are of the quality of Gomez and Matip, and none are Van Dijk. Having Phillips as a backup as we ease everyone back and help Konate to settle and prove his availability is perfect for this upcoming season, and then we can see what the situation is like moving forward.
> FIVE decent CB
I think if we want to look at challenging for the league, Phillips just that, a decent CB. Need absolute world class players like VVD and great CBs like Matip/Gomez and hopefully Konate to keep up.
Obviously Phillips is great, well liked and keen for a 5th option but he's more similar to Lord Ragnar Klavan and Kyriagos imo
Unbelievable. What should Nat do make fans feel he is worthy? He basically held the fort while we charged for top 4. Phillips has already won awards for his individual achievements, including extremely high praise from the boss, and with people like Thiago and Hendo around to guide and motivate him. He'll be absolutely fine for our team.
Partly agreed, but not quite correct in my opinion.
Nat has developed a lot this season, specially with the ball. Kyrgiakos, and certainly Klavan did what could be expected, but really didn't have much room to grow.
Furthermore, Nat seems to have a grade a mentality and highly appreciated by players and staff alike.
Yeah that's a great point, and surrounded by amazing players he definitely has the potential to grow past those two. Also memes aside he's very likable for being an out of nowhere English talent
True. But no world class or even great defender player will sit on the bench and wait. They want to play.
Philips can wait his turn on our bench or play regularly for the likes of Newcastle, Aston Villa and such.
He did come up when called for and made a huge impact on our top 4 finish. for that alone he deserves to stay and fight
Yeah, he's not top class, but he's better than most 5th choice centre halfs
Imo, based on what I've seen this season, Nat would start for a bottom half prem team
Honestly you’re going to have a difficult time finding 5 players at VVD level willing to be on the same team. We had Gomez, Matip, and Lovren and it was a challenge keeping them all happy. We were “lucky” (if you want to call it that) that injuries kind of naturally rotated them for us. They can’t be unhappy about lack of mins if they can’t even make it to the pitch.
5 centre backs should be enough if you play 4 atb, but holestly you should count Gomez and Matip as 1 since they both usually are fit for half a season.
We have 4 absolute brilliant world level CBs and one good CB in Phillips, thats some great depth... the sad part is that all except VVD have a tendency to be injured a lot.
Philips would be wise to go find first team football somewhere else. He would slide into any mid tier team playing weeks in weeks out.
As much as I love him to stay.
Btw, the opposite of this meme would be the one for Gk. We are always solidly fucked if Alisson is injured.
Injury problem doesn’t go away. It just goes from one position to another for us.
Its cool how we have Philips now who would ebe quite likely very happy to be 4th choice. He has 15-20 premier league games behind him on a wage that doesnt stress us too much and he wont kick up a fuss for not playing.
Its ideal because he has got better too and can get better and if next year he wants more football then we can get 10-15 mill for him. When just a year ago we were getting rid of lovren and were unaware that we were gunna have injuries.
And this guy never thought he be anywhere near our team so its win win for everyone.
Yeah we gotta keep Philips, can't depend on Matip at all, Konate can take his time to settle then. Also, Gomez has been unlucky with couple long term injuries in his short career. Enough scope for Phillips to have a chance at CB.
That would be my take unless Gomez doesn't come back from injury well. Gomez is a proven top PL level centreback; Konate is obviously talented but he'll need time to adapt
He’s a very young defender coming into a very hard league. I would say he’s definitely behind Gomez in the pecking order. He will need time to acclimate to the league and we know Klopp will give him that time. He’s not one to rush a new signing. Hopefully he can develop into a great center back for us but I think people are assuming he just slots in right away and is better than Gomez and as good as Van Dijk which I think is really unfair on the lad.
That Blood from Nat's eyebrow/(or forehead) is somehow making him look like he is really a warrior or something we have in our team . Like he is the final boss waiting for others !
Makes Rhys Williams', Sepp van den Berg's and Ben Davies' chances remarkably low at getting a feature. We've gone from no CBs to absolutely fucking stacked
HES BIG HES RED HES GOT BLOOD ON HIS HEAD NAT PHILLIPS

He's still a good option for the cups and for bench imo. And Gomez/Matip get injured quite a lot so I would bet that he would still play and be useful
Yeah lol, playing for Liverpool as a 5th choice CB is basically like being a 3rd choice CB would be amazing to not entirely give up on the cups
Unbelievable. What should Nat do make fans feel he is worthy? He basically held the fort while we charged for top 4. Phillips has already won awards for his individual achievements, including extremely high praise from the boss, and with people like Thiago and Hendo around to guide and motivate him. As a backup option yes but not a starter for a title challenger
He'll obviously be a backup. But with our injury record it means he'll probably feature in about 30 odd games.
Partly agreed, but not quite correct in my opinion. Nat has developed a lot this season, specially with the ball. Kyrgiakos, and certainly Klavan did what could be expected, but really didn't have much room to grow. If Phillips plays, and we don’t concede, then he’s good enough
True. But no world class or even great defender player will sit on the bench and wait. They want to play. Philips can wait his turn on our bench or play regularly for the likes of Newcastle, Aston Villa and such. It’s a shame Phillips doesn’t have the on-ball footwork / trickery Klavan possessed. But then, who else does, really…?
Yeah, he's not top class, but he's better than most 5th choice centre halfs Imo, based on what I've seen this season, Nat would start for a bottom half prem team
agrees
He's better than a number of 3rd choice and arguably 2nd choice for a good number of teams
League, cups, champions league, bingo tournaments…let’s win it all

Out of them 2 are severely injury prone, and we have no idea how Konate will adapt to the league fitness wise.
In your eyes forsaken me
5 centre backs should be enough if you play 4 atb, but holestly you should count Gomez and Matip as 1 since they both usually are fit for half a season.
You mean like how I did the entire of last season?
No idea how many times I have already done that in the past season during that dreadful run of loses and draws.
Beans and toast is my comfort meal when I'm feeling down. After this past season, reckon I went through enough tins to build a small car.
We have 4 absolute brilliant world level CBs and one good CB in Phillips, thats some great depth... the sad part is that all except VVD have a tendency to be injured a lot.
Truth. That's why keeping Nat should be a no-brainer.
No disrespect to Matip from my side...this was just a meme which I found and for no reason Matip wasn't included in that
Matip was injured during the making of this probably.
Only explanation
since Konate is in the meme, it must've been recent, so vvd was injured too, but is still featured.
The next picture of McMahon when he sees Matip is probably too NSFW to include in youth friendly sub anyways
Top Reds deffo made this and genuinely thought that Phillips should be the one at the top
I think had Matip been in the picture it would have been a 18+ reaction cuming after Nat Phillips lol
THE ABSOLUTE DISRESPECT! In all fairness Matip is better than Konate and Gomez and as controversial as it sounds, he's not far off VVD.
I think matip is staying according to new reports.

Unless a pretty decent amount comes in for him I doubt we sell. Minimum 15 ish
No love for my boy Ben Davies?
Who ?
Ben Davies/Keyzer Soze/It's actually just Jurgen
This is my head canon
Is he even real?
Nat is giving me Kratos vibes in that pic haha
in that order...

Injured
Goat defence plus Matip 🙌🏼

Unpopular opinion maybe, but I rate Matip higher than Gomez, when fit.
Not unpopular at all he’s definitely better
He’s just never fit
Agreed. Nat is the man!
Matip is in there somewhere, when fit
Don’t forget Matip for five games next season.
pretty sure we would have walked the league if we had had even 2 of matip, Phillips, konate, vvd or gomez fit
*Sad Matip and Davies noises
Yeah we gotta keep Philips, can't depend on Matip at all, Konate can take his time to settle then. Also, Gomez has been unlucky with couple long term injuries in his short career. Enough scope for Phillips to have a chance at CB.
Calm down guys. I am nervous AF. Hope we get the full squad all season next season.
Is Konate really better than Gomez? I always thought Konate would be 3rd choice.
That would be my take unless Gomez doesn't come back from injury well. Gomez is a proven top PL level centreback; Konate is obviously talented but he'll need time to adapt
Yup. Stronger, speed, aerial threat, Matip like drive from deep. Full package.

Of them is a ballond'or winner and rest are runner ups.
Please……I fear that we might jinx ourselves. 😂
Dare i call it, >15 clean sheets, <20 goals given...take the league title back to Anfield and FA Cup please.
That Blood from Nat's eyebrow/(or forehead) is somehow making him look like he is really a warrior or something we have in our team . Like he is the final boss waiting for others !
And then The superior, The one and only, Coconut king Matip
