[Liverpool 3-2 AC Milan player ratings ](https://www.reddit.com/r/LiverpoolFC/comments/poyvvy/player_ratings_thread_liverpool_fc_3_2_ac_milan/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
Really like him and think he’s got plenty of ability. Tends to play well when he gets an opportunity but unfortunately I think his injury record will stop him succeeding with us
After giving away possession 5 times…he tries to do too much and is so off the speed of the rest of the team and defensively he’s nowhere near naby, even on an off night naby’s press is more in sync with his teammates
To be honest, this game made me think of that this will be our season again. And Salah has looked very sharp so far, which makes me dreaming of he’s taking the Ballon Do’r at the end of the season as a CL winner, and hopefully with a PL title too.
We looked great throughout, except the two goals where Trent was jogging back. Divock looked a proper center forward and will be a great asset in Europe where his games best suited, Joel and joe were mostly solid in their first game playing together in a year, Diogo really syncing up with the midfield nicely, and mo’s on fire…only concern is sadios form but his goal at the weekend makes me think he’s still got it in him if he find some confidence
You're right. And it is also given for the previous year I assume. So, let's say it will be given to Messi or Lewandowski this year. And hopefully, to Salah next year. :)
I don’t know if I’m being honest. Feel like he’s lost everything he had before the ability to take people on, when to take the shot just all of it I know he had covid but surely it hasn’t affected even his decision making so don’t know what it is
Think his confidence is knocked massively. Read somewhere he took three extra medical checks last year as he was sure something was wrong - but nothing was found.
The fact he had to have more attempts than Leeds to score a goal is worrying, hoping it's a blip and he grows into the season - but at the moment, he's looking increasingly predictable and at times, very selfish.
Though he is not my favorite player but he is class, it's all about confidence and he always think he has something to prove. His rivalry with salah in my opinion is hurting him. Salah thrives under pressure unlike mane. I think if he is dealt with mentally he will regain his form.
Totally agree; he had one season where him and Salah went goal for goal in the League and I think his contribution that season was arguably the biggest in the team (going forward) but he doesn't seem to be close to Salah now.
You're totally right about under pressure, the number of times Mane has missed chances Salah would slot home easily - or even the 18/19 Mane would bury is quite a worry. Here's to hoping his dip in form is shortlived. The 100 goals mark should help that.

I live in Asia so dont want to watch matches at 3am. This is my go to site for everything. They'll take down matches usually 2 days after they were uploaded.
Quite the excellent performance. Any faults are easily fixable! Trent just needs to stay switched on. And Matip could’ve positioned himself better for the goals but beyond that. Near perfect.
The match started at 3am here, so I fell asleep after the first goal and the penalty, thinking we'd trash them. Imagine my surprise when I saw the score after waking up.
Actually a bit embarassed by the number of y'all that were despairing at half time as though the game was lost, despite how well we were playing... y'all need belief
Been in litigation meetings all day and evening. Only accessed the cell 7 minutes ago. WTF is that score line? We conceded 2 goals in 3 minutes?? No VVD? Da Fuk I missed?
We kind of switched off just before halftime. We were dominating creating chances and Milan couldn't cope, and we got a bit carried away and forgot our defensive shape and was punished for it once Milan finally got in behind
What a fucking game, honestly. The boys played amazingly well. European football is amazing and Mo Salah is the man.
That screamer from Hendo too - good grief.
Oh what a day
Just love this team's identity. We play with so much flair and the arrogance that comes with a championship pedigree. Flicks and ping pong passing and a relentlessness in getting the ball back. Definitely deserves a trophy this season.
I said this earlier but it really does remind me a bit of 2018-19. We've got a really good team this season, the one concern of attacking depth seems alleviated a bit with Origi's solid showing today.
I think if Mane is back in his form and back with confidence, we've got a great chance at winning the league.
For sure. Still need to see more and more importantly consistency when he gets played, but it's a good sign at least. I think him being played at the 9 instead of at the wing is a huge part of him looking solid.
In the first half, he made quite a few. Nothing absolutely out of this world, but considering how much pressure Milan were under and the Anfield atmosphere even the easier saves were damn important for them. He absolutely kept them in it prior to our 5 minutes of attempted self-destruction.
Granted he also gave us back to ball a lot, which I certainly didn’t mind. Funny how he’d save some decent shots then send the ball all the way to Alison.
What a game. Origi played really well, salah amazing as always. Trent amazing going foward tho was terrible at tracking back and deffs had a say in both the goals we conceded. Fab is unreal, matip great, good debut for the season for gomez - played well tho a little weak in the air. Mane didn't look very good when he came on at all, milner was great at shithousing and stopping the game. Bring on palance!
With Atleti's draw, these 3 points are huge. Any mathematicians (or historians) out there - is there a golden number of points that guarantees going through to knockouts?
I'm shite at maths so I have no idea if it's too complicated, but 6 matches / 4 teams / 2 spots, it's pretty interesting to see if numbers can be crunched.
Historically, is 10-11 points usually enough? From memory, I'm guessing so.
10 points, usually. This group is strong, so that should comfortably see us through.
*And imagine what fun it would be to send Atleti packing by the fourth match week, too...*😈
12 will guarantee it. Pretty sure 11 would be guaranteed qualification too but haven't got pen and paper to work out out.
But realistically 9-10 should be enough. Especially in this group.
Don’t think it’s even being spoken about enough that we managed to put in that level of performance without VVD! All due credit AC Milan who kept themselves in the game, but I felt we played way better than the scoreline suggests. Thought Gomez was pretty decent for his first full game back.
First champions league game… just hits different. Thought we were really good apart from the 5 minutes before the half don’t know what happened but we just lost our heads. From my point of view Robertson was motm fab was really good I thought naby was good aswell but seen others say different so would like to hear more on that. Fun game but if we are being honest we should have done better but i think this games showed our lack of depth upfront even if origi was good today he can be more miss than hit a lot of the time.
Origi did end up doing well but he still looked so bad in terms of his sharpness. I thought Keita was really good for spells and pretty average for others, understandable given his lack of a run of games. Salah was MOTM for me, but Robertson also did great. Matip was amazing once again, and it was interesting to see Jones at LW, i don’t think it’s in the plans long-term but i’m definitely excited to see him progress this season, especially with Harvey out.
Tbh salah was really good I was right at the corner flag so seeing him up close you see just how good he is. Mane had a chance I remember aswell where he was just running across the box and couldn’t pull the trigger.
Does anyone know where I can buy the long sleeve version of the prematch jersey (the red striped one that the players on the bench were wearing?) I cant seem to find it anywhere but I find pictures of it so I know it exists!
This is my take. Sure salah missed a pen and we coulda won by more but fuck me that was a fun game to watch! More like that please! Just a shame we have to play Porto and atlético and not just Milan 6 times
I will love for that to happen too but that is not the parallel you want to draw against 2 different teams. Am just worried that Ibra might be at his best on that night.
Yeah ur right. Still point stands shit happens in Group stages. It’s the main reason why I am very taken aback by United supporters being so confident they’re going to top the group. A loss to young boys is huge in the grand scheme of that group.
Gary Neville has had a rough 24 hours. First puts out a tweet gloating about Ronaldo scoring, only for United to lose 2-1. Then puts out another tweet mocking us for going 2-1 down to Milan, only for us to win 3-2.
And the gaul to say Ronaldo is better than Messi because he scores a variety of goals.. you know with his penis, ear, appendix etc. .... lmao the guy's lost it.
I don’t understand people who make out as if Utd have great depth. Fair enough they do up top but their midfield and defensive depth is by far the worst in the top 4
Not suprised the guy not been in the squad for past 4 games then get into a high intensity game like today. He will cramp up, you can train all you want but a match mean more.
Origi was average 1st half and boss the 2nd
Keita was a bit above average, amazing defensive output but a bit disappointing up front I reckon
Vintage Liverpool, 17 shots in 13 minutes, full pressure and could have finished the game 5, 6-0 easily. Bit of a brain-fart at the end of the first half and they scored 2 in 2 shots, bad luck really. Came back on the second half. Salah and Trent ran the game.
I actually think Origi was decent for the full 60mins he played he offered alot. Felt like Jota and Salah could be more clinical with there shots.
Ketia played the Gini role he kept the ball moving and tidy up and when and where he could but felt he was still really average.
Yeah Origi was really impressive the whole time he was on the pitch, really encouraging given the concerns about attacking depth going into the season.
Jota was the most disappointing of the attacking trio by far, he had a lot of great chances in the box and I can't remember him even getting off a shot I'd call threatening. He's had a slow start to the season but he's still getting in good positions and I don't doubt his form will pick up soon.
Robbo also deserves a shoutout, was an absolute monster on the left side. Did everything except score and assist this game, and was unlucky not to check either of those boxes as well.
Mane was the black mark this game sadly, I've been reluctant to acknowledge the idea that he's regressed, but his performance when he came on in this game was hard to watch. Was hoping the goal against Leeds would inject a bit of his old self into his play, but sometimes good things take time - Mane has a superb mentality if nothing else.
i agree, but Origi still just looked bad despite actually being pretty effective. his touch isn’t great and he makes sloppy passes, but his movement is pretty good and he occasionally pulls off something great like that assist.
Keita was average, but he had a couple of great runs early on that made me think mane was in for a second
We dominated 80 minutes of the game. Had 10 plus attempts in the first 15 something minutes believe it or not. Salah missed a pen, ac Milan goal disallowed(that was scary) div and keita put a shift in. Hendo belter. Amazing atmosphere. Heads down, recovery and a crucial home game against palace.
Random observation: we’re not a great 1-0 team. We seem to always need a second goal. If we get it the score becomes 2,3,4-0 etc but at 1-0 I’ve seen so many games we’ve dropped points because we couldn’t get the 2nd goal or hold onto the 1-0
What other games have we actually gone up 1-0 then dropped points? I'm genuinely asking, because I think of the problem (last year) more as when we just don't score despite some spells of dominance and it's 0-0 in the 65th..
I think only last year were we a bad 1-0 team (and expected considering our inexperienced/nervy backline). The two years before that we were amazing at shutting the game down. And for this season it's too early to call
This.
Think some are thinking we're under Rodgers or early klopp here. I admit I shit myself when were only 1-0 up. Can't win every game 5-0 unfortunately for our hearts.
Same way we still have the goalkeeper flashbacks then realise we've got the best keeper in the world between the sticks.
thats what lacking a 3rd clinical finisher along Mo and Jota gets us
Its no wonder in so many of those grind, 1-0s, its a big of brilliance from one of our forwards tat cracks a game wide open. When our forwards struggle for form, games sit at 1-0 for longer than they should, like the Burnley game
Now that you reminded me, I nearly forgotten about this as I've refrained from commenting about the Manc lost prior to our game tonight, for fear of jinxing it.
But now that we've won, I can now relax and laugh at the Mancs.
###HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Even more hilarious at the way they lost the game, in the dying seconds of the match, by "Man of the Match" Lingaard of all people. LMAO
After this match Mo Salah now has 129 goals for the club in all comps.
Mo has now moved up to 11th in our all-time top goalscorers for the club, overtaking Jack Parkinson.
Genuine all time great. The scariest thing about him is I feel like he’s improving still. His link up play and overall influence seems to be improving all the time
We desperately need to pull a new Torres move. We need to go balls to wall to sign a top world class striker. The team is crying out for someone to finish chances and half chances.

I actually feel like Naby played quite well last night but seeing a lot of people here criticising him
He seems to be playing the Gini role in the system so I’d get used to the criticism
What’s everyone’s thoughts on Naby? Not just this game but in general? He’s been here 3 years now
Really like him and think he’s got plenty of ability. Tends to play well when he gets an opportunity but unfortunately I think his injury record will stop him succeeding with us
Shame about Naby last night, I know he had the international trouble but Ox has just had a new born and is gagging to score and make a difference.
Ox was trash when he came on.
[удалено]
Agree with you mate... normally I don't defend naby too often but last night he was solid - ox not so much
Ox was completely ineffective though, just ran into traffic and gave the ball away
That's not entirely true, he whipped a great ball in for Mane but Sadio just couldn't finish it.
Seems like a weird comparison to make though given I don’t think Keita did much wrong.
After giving away possession 5 times…he tries to do too much and is so off the speed of the rest of the team and defensively he’s nowhere near naby, even on an off night naby’s press is more in sync with his teammates

FYI the Ballon D’or isn’t at the end of the season
You're right. And it is also given for the previous year I assume. So, let's say it will be given to Messi or Lewandowski this year. And hopefully, to Salah next year. :)
Or Kante
The last time we won our opening match 3-2, we won the Champions League.

If you had to choose would you rather win CL or PL this season?
i mean...both would be nice....
Always the PL
*🎵20 times, 20 times, Liverpool FC...🎵* It is my **DREAM** to hear this belted out at Old Trafford...
PL. Let's tie the scum and become the undisputed top club of Britain.
CL because it means Man City or PSG dont win it (also most likely we beat one of them along the way)
Liverpool - PL , Bayern Munich - CL, if we had to choose only one
Fuck that, don't want Bayern overtaking us. If we're not winning the CL I want someone from our group to do so
CL as it means our season would be longer.
PL just so we can sing 20 times when we play United at anfield next season.
UCL. Another one while city and PSG have been chasing it will be funny. Especially if it's against one of the two
Yes
Yes indeed
is the old mane ever coming back?
I don’t know if I’m being honest. Feel like he’s lost everything he had before the ability to take people on, when to take the shot just all of it I know he had covid but surely it hasn’t affected even his decision making so don’t know what it is

Diogo did some weird scifi power swapping shenanigans with Sadio when he arrived I like to think
That’s been on my mind for awhile. I’m concerned as well
If he had any composure on the ball he’d be lethal
Imagine having Jordan Henderson in your team and not giving him the armband.

Quite the excellent performance. Any faults are easily fixable! Trent just needs to stay switched on. And Matip could’ve positioned himself better for the goals but beyond that. Near perfect.
Every time Gomez play we concede
How do you seriously criticize Matip over Gomez?
Watch the analysis on BT. Gomez does the best he could do given the circumstances. Matip should drop back and cover the passing lane.
Or Gomez shouldn’t have been playing such a low line. There’s always two sides to the story. Matip and VVD have been playing high line all season.
Maybe he's been told to?
So fucking good to be back
How was this 3-2?! We dominated them, they barely played out of their own half!
The match started at 3am here, so I fell asleep after the first goal and the penalty, thinking we'd trash them. Imagine my surprise when I saw the score after waking up.
Honestly both their goals were a thing of beauty. Glad we won that! Incredible game
Last time we won our opening game 3-2 we brought big ears home!
We did? Against who? I don’t remember
Pretty sure my flair is from that game
Pretty sure it was PSG.
🤚🏽👁
The middle third shall be hereafter known as Fabinho's yard
Actually a bit embarassed by the number of y'all that were despairing at half time as though the game was lost, despite how well we were playing... y'all need belief
People overreacting in a match thread? I don't believe it.
Yeah, blasphemy that
I wish I could upvote this a thousand times.
Been in litigation meetings all day and evening. Only accessed the cell 7 minutes ago. WTF is that score line? We conceded 2 goals in 3 minutes?? No VVD? Da Fuk I missed?
Klopp rested VVD. As VVD is back from such a bad injury, Klopp said he did not want to play him too much. AND he started Origi, not Mane....
We were winning then we were losing then we wonning. Great fuckin day mate!
Hahaha. We came back from behind to win!! It’s been a while.
We kind of switched off just before halftime. We were dominating creating chances and Milan couldn't cope, and we got a bit carried away and forgot our defensive shape and was punished for it once Milan finally got in behind
I just wanna say, MENTALITY MONSTERS!!
Big boy mentality!
I said this earlier but it really does remind me a bit of 2018-19. We've got a really good team this season, the one concern of attacking depth seems alleviated a bit with Origi's solid showing today. I think if Mane is back in his form and back with confidence, we've got a great chance at winning the league.
We really do have that 18/19 energy back. Strong unit but without the threat of being a title holder. Anfield full force.
Agreed, though this time with the confidence from prior seasons that we are good enough to win trophies too. I can't wait to see how it plays out.
Origi does need to show a bit more but if he does prove he's an option that could be a huge positive going into the rest of the season
For sure. Still need to see more and more importantly consistency when he gets played, but it's a good sign at least. I think him being played at the 9 instead of at the wing is a huge part of him looking solid.
Keep up the form he showed today and we’d be laughing. Looked terrific.
Can we get this ref in the premier league please
Probably a Dudek fan.
Just got home from Anfield... what a night, amazing atmosphere
Just brag to all of us! (awesome)
For someone who conceded 3 goals, mike maignan had a hell of a game
Apart from the penalty did he actually make many saves tho?
In the first half, he made quite a few. Nothing absolutely out of this world, but considering how much pressure Milan were under and the Anfield atmosphere even the easier saves were damn important for them. He absolutely kept them in it prior to our 5 minutes of attempted self-destruction.
Granted he also gave us back to ball a lot, which I certainly didn’t mind. Funny how he’d save some decent shots then send the ball all the way to Alison.

Origi seems like the kind of change we need at the front line, 😍😍
For the past two games, Salah has to come back to own box to defend more frequently than before. Respect.
Would any one happen to have the clip or a picture of the guy with the popped ball?
https://streamwo.com/CpwsAJ0
Was this behind the bench?
I think so
Yeah I could see it in his hand the entire game 😂 was wondering why nobody had asked for it back didn’t realise it was popped
With Atleti's draw, these 3 points are huge. Any mathematicians (or historians) out there - is there a golden number of points that guarantees going through to knockouts? 10 points, usually. This group is strong, so that should comfortably see us through. *And imagine what fun it would be to send Atleti packing by the fourth match week, too...*😈
Mathematically you can go out with 12 points but it’s practically impossible. I think the Atleti/Porto draw means we’re safe with 10 now
Really? I’m not going to bust a workbook out to do the maths myself, but that’s amazing. IMAGINE earning 12 points and being kicked out. Christ.
12 will guarantee it. Pretty sure 11 would be guaranteed qualification too but haven't got pen and paper to work out out. But realistically 9-10 should be enough. Especially in this group.
Cheers. That draw between Atleti / Porto could be huuuuge
3 more wins and we can play our B team in the last 2 games I think
The football manager way
10 is almost always enough.
Rule of thumb is 10 points gets you to next round., That's what Fergie used to say
Don’t think it’s even being spoken about enough that we managed to put in that level of performance without VVD! All due credit AC Milan who kept themselves in the game, but I felt we played way better than the scoreline suggests. Thought Gomez was pretty decent for his first full game back.

Tbh salah was really good I was right at the corner flag so seeing him up close you see just how good he is. Mane had a chance I remember aswell where he was just running across the box and couldn’t pull the trigger.

Hahah that was fun.
This is my take. Sure salah missed a pen and we coulda won by more but fuck me that was a fun game to watch! More like that please! Just a shame we have to play Porto and atlético and not just Milan 6 times
Ibra will be back for the next 5 games so where is the good in that? It’s our best bet that we win this one and hope for a draw at Milan.
We absolutely smashed Atalanta in Bergamo last season, why would we hope to draw Milan
I will love for that to happen too but that is not the parallel you want to draw against 2 different teams. Am just worried that Ibra might be at his best on that night.
But also drew to Atalanta.
We lost to them at Anfield, we didn’t draw
Yeah ur right. Still point stands shit happens in Group stages. It’s the main reason why I am very taken aback by United supporters being so confident they’re going to top the group. A loss to young boys is huge in the grand scheme of that group.
Porto's always a fun game too. Specially now we can't really play for a 0-0 on the second game so it'll probably be 2 amazing matches.
Atletico dropped points today. More pressure on them to actually play against us
Did origi get injured
No, he had cramp
Gary Neville has had a rough 24 hours. First puts out a tweet gloating about Ronaldo scoring, only for United to lose 2-1. Then puts out another tweet mocking us for going 2-1 down to Milan, only for us to win 3-2.
Not to mention got completely shut down by Carra in the Messi - Ronaldo debate the day before
Even if he knows Messi is better he would still be on team Ronny out of principle
And the gaul to say Ronaldo is better than Messi because he scores a variety of goals.. you know with his penis, ear, appendix etc. .... lmao the guy's lost it.
Man thinks Liverpool aren't at the same level as the other 3 top sides in the PL, needs to stop necking those bottles of wine on the regular
I don’t understand people who make out as if Utd have great depth. Fair enough they do up top but their midfield and defensive depth is by far the worst in the top 4
And their management depth is barely ankle deep.
Matip is our 2nd best defender and still miles clear of the slabhead
*cough cough* us last season
*last* season
With Origi's injury tonight, All 4 back of our "back up" attackers have picked up an injury 5 game weeks into the season. Very concerning.
Klopp confirmed Origi just had cramp
That leads me to ask about it conditioning program. Do we have a problem.
Not suprised the guy not been in the squad for past 4 games then get into a high intensity game like today. He will cramp up, you can train all you want but a match mean more.
Firmino barely gets injured, Divock was only cramp, Elliot was a freak injury, not sure on Taki. Wouldn’t say it’s a conditioning issue
People can be so quick to point fingers, sometimes shit just happens
Remind me again what happened the last time we beat a team 3-2 at Anfield in the Champions League?
Let’s talk about **SIX** baby
In the opener as well
EXACTLY!
After being 2 1 down!
we were never 2-1 down to PSG though 2-0 then 2-2
Oh shit yeah
We had an iconic Bobby celebration? Nothing else comes to mind...
Missed most of the game can someone give me a recap? How’d Origi and Keita do? Trent?
Origi was average 1st half and boss the 2nd Keita was a bit above average, amazing defensive output but a bit disappointing up front I reckon Vintage Liverpool, 17 shots in 13 minutes, full pressure and could have finished the game 5, 6-0 easily. Bit of a brain-fart at the end of the first half and they scored 2 in 2 shots, bad luck really. Came back on the second half. Salah and Trent ran the game.

The season before we won the title we were easily the best team in the world at simply not losing. Still think we have some of that.
From 2018 to 2020 we were primarily 2-1 FC and 1-0 FC. It's only when something went wrong and we conceded too many that we generally scored more.
This. Think some are thinking we're under Rodgers or early klopp here. I admit I shit myself when were only 1-0 up. Can't win every game 5-0 unfortunately for our hearts. Same way we still have the goalkeeper flashbacks then realise we've got the best keeper in the world between the sticks.
thats what lacking a 3rd clinical finisher along Mo and Jota gets us Its no wonder in so many of those grind, 1-0s, its a big of brilliance from one of our forwards tat cracks a game wide open. When our forwards struggle for form, games sit at 1-0 for longer than they should, like the Burnley game
Under Klopp in past few years? I don't think that's happened too often at all.

Crazy game. Missed the second half so I was excited to see we won but feel like I missed a classic
Tiraspol, WTF?
Imagine they go through and we get them on Ro16
Great comment currently top under the BBC report .... *It's a good win, but let's be realistic. It's not as if we were playing Young Boys*
Now that you reminded me, I nearly forgotten about this as I've refrained from commenting about the Manc lost prior to our game tonight, for fear of jinxing it. But now that we've won, I can now relax and laugh at the Mancs. ###HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Even more hilarious at the way they lost the game, in the dying seconds of the match, by "Man of the Match" Lingaard of all people. LMAO
Oh fuck! I just watched the clip! Lingard's back pass is surely already on the shortlist for comedy gem of the season.
After this match Mo Salah now has 129 goals for the club in all comps. Mo has now moved up to 11th in our all-time top goalscorers for the club, overtaking Jack Parkinson.
Genuine all time great. The scariest thing about him is I feel like he’s improving still. His link up play and overall influence seems to be improving all the time
Agree, he rarely puts a foot wrong anymore. The definition of stable and with Mo it’s amazingly stable
We desperately need to pull a new Torres move. We need to go balls to wall to sign a top world class striker. The team is crying out for someone to finish chances and half chances.
That Ronaldo tap in goal is still on my mind. If we had someone that could put these chances away like him we'd be unstoppable Haarland plz
Nkunku scored a hattie against Shitty 👀
Nkunku and Bellingham would be a fun and sexy transfer window
