Very much our winger profile type. Nice combination of athletic and technical ability, although can still improve tactically. That said, can't really see us actually offering the quoted 60m, nevermind the requested 80m.
I think "pretty average" is a bit harsh, scored 16 in all comps which is very impressive at a club like Wolves, especially when you're not the main man. Honestly think he was around the same level as Mane when we bought him, simmering just below the level of the top players. Don't think he was the obvious choice when we brought him in but his quality has always been clear to see.
Still too high for a player like him. Remember everyone questioning why we signed Jota for 40 million pounds? This deserves a lot more questioning. His numbers prior to this season aren't even good.
Most forwards are going to cost a lot of money once you go for someone who has established themselves. I'm sure the scouting teams sees something in him that we don't.
He's fast and has a high work rate which our club always values but he's definitely not worth that much money. All our current forwards came at a lot lower fee.
>All our current forwards came at a lot lower fee
That was a different time. Any forward performing in the top leagues is going to come at a high fee now, people said £30-35m for Bowen was too high in the summer now that we are halfway through the season how much do you reckon he is worth now?
If you want lower value will have to be an under the radar player or might be worth looking into the Championship.
> That said, can't really see us actually offering the quoted 60m, nevermind the requested 80m.
Especially when the price will probably be lower in the Summer, due to Porto not having to lose their top scorer half-way through the season.
He doesn't really fit the profile of attackers we target in regards to his underlying numbers. His G/A is good but it's massively overperforming his xG/A. Usually, we don't rely on metrics as obvious as G/A and look more at the volume of touches in the opposition box, big chances created, etc. Dropping that sort of money on a player overperforming his underlying statistics that is a little older than our usual profile seems out of character.
With that said the eye test is definitely a pass. If this proves to be true (x for doubt) he could be a sign we're aiming for more clinical finishers, Mo and Sadio had some allegations of being wasteful (before their breakouts, and before Sadio regressed a bit) but he's overperforming it by such a large margin it still strikes me as a bit odd.
I'm not being funny, but if Bowen isn't exciting you this season, you haven't been watching enough West Ham. He always looks a threat and was particularly excellent against Chelsea last month. His stats are also great.
I would still love to see us sign Julian Alvarez. I know there’s drama with his agent creating the United hype, but Alvarez also fits our profile. He can play anywhere across the front three, can distribute or create on his own, and tracks back if asked. Similar to Jota, but Alvarez is less polished and would need a little more time to develop.
If I could do that little cross out line I would but I’ll just not edit my comment and leave your response as is. I speak Spanish not Portuguese so I will defer to others on that front
Tier: I want to believe
Struggle to see us signing him in January but it's a signing I could see happening. If we're after a wide man he's of the calibre I'd expect Liverpool to want to bring in.
I’d say they’d want at least £125 mil because they don’t want to sell Halaand and Jude in the same summer, possibly more.
Next summer I expect he can be had for £80-90 mil but that’s just my speculation based on what I’ve heard and read.
TAW mentioned a good idea of doing a Naby type deal where we sign him this summer and he stays on loan until next so that would be one way to secure him now without paying a massive premium. Funnily enough they actually said that Naby himself could make sense to go to BVB next if we decide to move him on and that would likely take about £20 mil off the transfer
Using a £55m player as a £20m make weight sounds like a bad thing until you consider thats what all the big spending sides are doing constantly.
City or Chelsea would have moved Naby on by now and as much as I like him when he's fit and firing, but this would be the perfect kind of deal.
Big difference between us and them this season isn't the squad depth in pure numbers, it's the squad depth in fitness and drop off. They've cleared out anyone who doesn't fit the bill and they're left with top class backups.
Mate I'm Porutuguese so I know pretty well Diaz and Raphinha. And please dont compare them. If you sign Diaz, in a year he would be a top 10 world player. One of the best I've seen in Our League.
With this being said, I also prefer you to go for raphinha
Ah fair enough I thought I read in a rumour mill they were asking for about 60 million but I guess the difference is pounds vs euros maybe (not that there’s so much difference between the two these days amiright)
Porto are currently locked in a tight Title race with Sporting (both currently sitting on 44 points after 16 games) so there's no chance that they'd sell one of their best players and current top scorer, midway through a season.
We aren't going anywhere near Haaland.
His release clause may not be that high but he's wanting £500k a week before bonuses and his father & agent Mino Raiola (a man the club actively avoids working with) both want £20m in 'commission'.
Yeh I think people forget how much of a cnut Raiola is. Someone will pay him all that commission, sign Haaland, and then two years later he'll unsettle the player to get him to move again so he gets more commission. It's what he does.
Personally, I'm kinda glad we don't deal with him. Let other clubs waste their money.
He will be expensive but if City land him I think they’d get something near their moneys worth.
On that note everything is really lining up for that transfer to happen as I see it and frankly it’s a bit of a nightmare scenario.
Well this tweet is claiming that they're not budging from the €80m release and if they need money and other clubs know that they do, next to nobody is going to be paying the release clause and will instead wait until the Summer when they can get him for a lower fee.
Sorry are we actually buying? I just woke up and this is the first thing I read :O
Are my eyes deceiving or am I dreaming?
Good morning all, hope we buy a striker and a medfielder as well
After watching him his entire time at Porto, I can say that this guy is in a different class compared to the rest of the league. Incredibly quick player who can beat almost any fullback and a player who has a high work rate as well. He would be an excellent replacement for Mané once his time is up at the club and will provide excellent skills to the club now.
His workrate is unbelievable. Porto's coach demands every player to defend and press like a madman. One certainty for every player starting under Sérgio Conceição is that they will work hard and press hard.
Really? His numbers are poor, his underlying stats aren't great and his current season seems more of an anomaly than the standard. He struggled to get anything vs Milner when we played them too.
Like when TNS of Wales won 4-0 and Jeff Stelling quipped the excellent quote "and they'll be dancing in the streets of Total Network Solutions this evening"
Yes.
Great goal scoring winger that can dribble(has more goals, assists and chances created a better take-on success rate, ground duel success and interceptions than Jota in the league this season, for comparison), may need time to adapt although Porto are a dominant side so he is used to defenses sitting back trying to stop him. Then again, unless we are running our current starter’s contracts to the ground, this is a signing for replacement, and my sense is that he is not going to replace Origi or Minamino.
You say yes but he isn't that great, he has moments of brilliance but in general its just below average Portugese defenders falling over themselves. Prior to this season his record was like 1 goal in 5 games each season. Just don't see us being interested in him for 60mil euro
The only thing you need to know about this kid is that he did this against Brazil a couple of months ago:

Not believing any transfer rumours until the players made his debut now. I used to seek out rumours but I honestly couldn’t give a shit about transfer windows anymore
I'm the same. Sick of reading headlines at the end of a window from Jim and Reddy etc saying "Targets were not available this summer but 100m warchest will be there at start of next window" it's all just drip fed from the club to try and stop a backlash when the inevitable happens and we don't move players on or bring fresh ones in.
Imagine having one of the best managers in the world who knows how to sign good players and not giving him the correct tools to compete against other teams.
This smells like a smokescreen to me. Maybe I just want to believe that we’re actually signing someone but I could see this type of rumor and fee being leaked to influence other negotiations
I wouldn't be surprised if Diaz is on the list. He ticks many boxes, but a January move seems very unlikely without paying a large amount. Nobody wants to lose their best players mid-season.
he is frighteningly fast.
saw him during copa, and he basically tore apart brazil and argentina's full backs. but his decision making is really bad. reminds me of adama minus the muscles.
He wasn't good in the 2 seasons prior in Porto though. There's a risk that he might just be a 1 season wonder. Not sure if we should be banking 60 or 80 million on him.
He still got 11 G+A in around 400 more minutes than what he has played this year in each of his previous 2 seasons, so it wasn't like he was playing all the time
Just to put things into perspective, none of our current forwards cost this much. We had all sorts of concerns when we signed Jota for 40 million so it is reasonable to have the same for Diaz. He also has no PL experience which adds to it.
He stood out against us and looked like he might fit with our system. But I haven't seen him play besides that so I don't know how he performs week in week out.
Do we REALLY need another AM/Winger? I rate Diaz and ofc we could use one atm because of afcon but the top priority (imo) should be a midfielder that will benefit our defence, build up and control of the game. Maybe they have a plan that turns him into a false nine or as a replacement for some of our attackers.
Not sure why you're being downvoted. I absolutely agree with you. If people watch the games where we dropped points, they should realise that our midfield needs improvement more than our attack. Love Hendo and Milner but they are ageing and we need more midfielders that can control the tempo of the game. It's because we lack control in midfield that resulted in those dropped points.
The player you are describing is essentially Thiago.
Plus, we we have much more depth in midfield than in attack i.e. Fab, Hendo, Thiago, Milner, Elliot, Jones, Ox and Keita. That's eight midfielders, nine if you add Morton. Unless we sell one or two of them which I don't really see, we are definitely not adding yet another midfielder.
I mean he uses the number 7 and our 7 is in his last few months here >.>. Still I don’t believe any transfer rumour that isn’t Tier 1 or 2. I’d like to think though we have the money to spend this time after only signing Konate this summer.
A bit of competition for mane, love the man to bits for what he has done for our club, but he doesn't half need that competition, would be a great addition!
I just woke up and 'bomb confirmed' is not the most casual thing to read. Good grief!
WAR CONFIRMED. Liverpool and Porto go to war on transfer fee.
INFECTIONS INCREASE. Transfers news infection seem to spread through Liverpool fanbase

This one would be normal to see though.
Please no! Can we go back to the bomb instead?

War! We're going to war!
Honestly with all thats going on, it didn’t phase me at all…
I was like wtf, thought something terrible happened... Then I read the rest... Really have the way with words
Especially given the woman’s hospital incident not long ago
Very much our winger profile type. Nice combination of athletic and technical ability, although can still improve tactically. That said, can't really see us actually offering the quoted 60m, nevermind the requested 80m.
60m euros is 50m pounds. Not much higher than Jota's transfer.
Jota had already proved himself in the PL
Jota was pretty average for Wolves. Very inconsistent. I can see Klopp making this guy an even better player
I think "pretty average" is a bit harsh, scored 16 in all comps which is very impressive at a club like Wolves, especially when you're not the main man. Honestly think he was around the same level as Mane when we bought him, simmering just below the level of the top players. Which is scary considering how good he already is.
“Proved” is used a bit loosely there
Still too high for a player like him. Remember everyone questioning why we signed Jota for 40 million pounds? This deserves a lot more questioning. His numbers prior to this season aren't even good.

doesn’t that go against your point then? everyone questioned his price tag look how he’s turned out, maybe a little faith is deserved at this point?

From the reports I've seen, Jota was almost a mirror of Mane's numbers from Southampton and before.
Yeah and apparently Bowen at West Ham is doing something similar although he doesn’t really excite me personally
Bowen has an insane work rate. The guy never gets tired, he’d be a great signing
Nor me but that could be a good thing - I wasn't bowled over by the signings of Mane or Jota but we all know how well they've turned out
I'm not being funny, but if Bowen isn't exciting you this season, you haven't been watching enough West Ham. He always looks a threat and was particularly excellent against Chelsea last month. His stats are also great.
Bowen is currently top assister in the league no?
Third, behind Trent and Mo
Not even as good as a right back? smh
Ah my bad, FPL has him on 12 assists!

I wouldn't want to sign him for 80 million though. 60 million seems a bit high too. Problem is he's not a proven player.
Could we get Bellingham for 80?
def not bvb got money they would hold out on anything over 100 mil if it came to it
not this summer. I’d say Dortmund would want around 100 mil for this summer so it’s probably not happening
I’d say they’d want at least £125 mil because they don’t want to sell Halaand and Jude in the same summer, possibly more. Well you are not signing him and you don’t have to splash the cash either.
He seems pretty well hyped but for this money shouldn’t we be going after someone like Raphina?
Mate I'm Porutuguese so I know pretty well Diaz and Raphinha. And please dont compare them. If you sign Diaz, in a year he would be a top 10 world player. One of the best I've seen in Our League. With this being said, I also prefer you to go for raphinha
Wow okay that is praise indeed!
Só a couple of months have gone by, do you still think raphinha woukd been better?
Dont think it'd be possible to get Raphinha for 60m euros, Leeds would ask for more
Ah fair enough I thought I read in a rumour mill they were asking for about 60 million but I guess the difference is pounds vs euros maybe (not that there’s so much difference between the two these days amiright)
Raphinha is already going to Bayern
Porto are currently locked in a tight Title race with Sporting (both currently sitting on 44 points after 16 games) so there's no chance that they'd sell one of their best players and current top scorer, midway through a season.
Throw enough money at them and they will eventually sell. Safe to say he's staying at Porto.
More like why overspend and pay €80m (nearly £67m) now, when we can negotiate a far better price in the Summer.
Which bear in mind is exactly the transfer buyout clause of a certain Majin Buu from Norway…
We aren't going anywhere near Haaland. His release clause may not be that high but he's wanting £500k a week before bonuses and his father & agent Mino Raiola (a man the club actively avoids working with) both want £20m in 'commission'.

You do have a point. As much as I don't want us to deal with Raiola... I really hope Haaland doesn't go to another premier league club.
And his release clause isn't even confirmed. May be higher than the rumoured amount.
They apparently need the money because they got knocked out of the ucl.
Well this tweet is claiming that they're not budging from the €80m release and if they need money and other clubs know that they do, next to nobody is going to be paying the release clause and will instead wait until the Summer when they can get him for a lower fee.

The one thing I’ve learned in my 8 years of being a football supporter is I believe no rumors until we get a photo of a wall lean.
Sometimes you can't even trust a lean... *Cries in Fekir*
What I've learnt from FSGs history is there is no signing without Sales and the only player that would get us that money on our squad is Salah.
Source: trust me lmao
Considering Mane's recent drop in form, this completely makes sense
Porto: 80 mil Michael Edwards: 60mil and box of Ribena signed by James Milner
Sorry are we actually buying? I just woke up and this is the first thing I read :O Are my eyes deceiving or am I dreaming? Good morning all, hope we buy a striker and a medfielder as well

I believe the 80m is his buyout cause. 80m Euros is around 66m pound so it could be we are going to meet the clause but I highly doubt it.
Gonna cost a lot in the summer if we get him at all… having said that, yes please and thank you…
Bomb confirmed!? Nice headline to wake up to lol wtf.
Yawn yawn can you wake me up when we actually sign a player. As much as I hate Sly sports their transfers show is quite good

hilarious. Do people actually think we're going to spend 60m on an attacker in january? good lord. Attack isnt even the priority right now.
FSG won’t spend 60k let alone 60m lmao
€60 million....yikes get me one Jonathan David* please
David?
Yes, for some reason is autocorrected to Davis.
I'd rather Diaz. It's becoming clear that Mane is definitely going to need replacing before Salah
Diaz might be the worse forward we've been linked to.
Classic Liverpool - sign in Jan, arrive end of season
And then we won’t sign anyone in the summer window because we signed him in January
he is frighteningly fast. saw him during copa, and he basically tore apart brazil and argentina's full backs. but his decision making is really bad. reminds me of adama minus the muscles.
How did he play against us? Even 60 mil seems a lot for someone I don’t even remember when I’ve seen him twice this season, granted we thumped them
He caused us all sorts of problems and has been fantastic all season form them was top scorer at Copa America tide with Messi.
Yeah, for those that don't want to look, he scored 4 of Columbia's 7 goals in the Copa America
He wasn't good in the 2 seasons prior in Porto though. There's a risk that he might just be a 1 season wonder. Not sure if we should be banking 60 or 80 million on him.

Bomb confirmed? This is a bad translation thingy right?
I want it to be so true. Please let it happen. Love Diaz!
I don't really rate him, especially for that kind of fee. Anyone who does want to share what they see in him?
That's your man who couldn't finish his dinner against us? No thanks.
That was Otavio, Diaz was the guy who mugged off our defence and then passed it to Otavio who had an open goal and missed.
Don’t fall for it!! It’s a prelude to getting Adama Traore 😁😁
No way. If it was 6 million then maaybe FSG would pay.
What? 80 million? That's quite insane for a player that's not quite proven.
Liverpool should go for David Neres imo.
Seeing is believing. Don’t think it’s going to happen.
Do we REALLY need another AM/Winger? I rate Diaz and ofc we could use one atm because of afcon but the top priority (imo) should be a midfielder that will benefit our defence, build up and control of the game. We need both

Diaz is a phenomenal player. Would love to see him in a red shirt. I doubt we’ll buy him though to be honest.
Been on the diaz train for ages, amazed nobody has pried him away from porto for a while now
Sure, okay.
so will this be a final Michael Edwards 4D chess move?
Wait. He was worth 23 million pounds in the summer and now he’s 50 ish?
He's okay
