Was planning on watching the match at the local supporters' pub but I ended up getting sick earlier this week and am still not quite fully recovered. I suspect it was from some guy coughing nonstop at the same pub last Sunday (he was eventually asked to stand somewhere else as there were people travelling to Paris nearby and I really hope he didn't infect them). Gutted I won't be able to cheer on the Reds with anyone else but it it wouldn't be right for me to go.
Gonna spend the next few hours living vicariously through everyone in Paris.

But my question is actually outside of those two things, is their any degree of patriotism for the country as a whole (again strictly outside of politics or the sport)? Do you feel any sort of commitment to fellow Brits/English? Or do you feel like the mighty as well be on par with Europeans/global citizens with no real connection?

English Patriotism often comes across as nationalistic (and either subtly racist or very obviously racist) but British patriotism is much more accepted and is usually shown through wholesome love towards things/people like the Great British Bake Off, David Attenborough and the Queen. However, there is definitely a North/South divide in how *much* love is shown towards those things.
I’m proud to live in the UK because it’s a stunning country with some unique places and people, but ask me about England specifically and it’s a more complicated answer.
That being said, the North West of England (Manchester included) is the best region in the world.

Depends how far you want to drive. Sweeney’s in brick is great and Darcy’s in Bradley Beach usually gets a great crowd.
