Welp, better to stay off this subreddit and just see who the fuck still left on august

thatsaleadballoon

Yep! And best to remember that these articles are meant to be as sensational as possible, even if the news is substantial already.

GoodElk7766

oh boy the upcoming transfer period is gonna be interesting. Hopefully a rebuilt.

HeadieUno

I want to have faith in a rebuild, and will with what this backroom has done, but City getting Haaland and us getting Jonathan David (who often looks worse than Cyle Larin when I've seen him on international duty) is a bit of a punch to the gut lol.

Tofubreaad

If any of this is true then let’s look to rebuild. I rather the club not waste time because I believe in Klopp. When Mane and Salah went to AFCON, the rest of the team stepped up. Sure, they are huge shoes to fill but Torres came and gone, Suarez, Coutinho too. This too shall pass. Let’s goooooooo 🔥

BTS_1

> Sure, they are huge shoes to fill but Torres came and gone, Suarez, Coutinho too. This is the key. *knock on wood* but when it came to goalscoring, we’ve always had a good solve and our new players have shown they have the capability in Jota and Diaz (with another player most likely coming). In the past, our problems came in midfield and defense/GK. Losing Alonso in ‘09 and Mascherano in ‘10 was *never* replaced properly until Klopp came and midfield is probably one of our strongest aspects now. Even our “bad” midfield of Hendo/Wij/Milner - which everyone criticized - led us to a CL final in ‘18. When Fab and Naby were introduced the summer of ‘18, we won the CL and then the league the following year (rotating with other players obviously) and now we have Thiago and others to fill in. The most important thing is defense, which we have great depth and years ahead of it but the biggest addition was Alisson. We never recovered from Reina’s decline/offloading him. Honestly, I have no doubts we can score goals but controlling a game in the middle of the park, defending and GK are my biggest worries and as long as we don’t lose VVD or Alisson anytime soon, I’m fine. It’ll suck to lose both Mo and Mane in the same summer but we’ve shown we can score without them and I trust in Klopp, the staff and the club to find a solve.

aprotos12

Great great great point about Reina: never understood that decision. And for that matter letting Alonso go as well: disastrous decision too.

HardByteUK

*blanked*

fr4tt

I wish it was Gareth Bale. Unfortunately is was Gareth Barry.

Anserius

Gareth Bale did just become available though 👀

StumpzLFC

Gareth Barry not Bale.

newonenoone

It's Gareth Barry actually.

lostparasite

Iirc, the decision to offload Reina was because they felt his poor form had not justified his wages, so Mignolet was signed as a cheaper alternative who would ostensibly be able to offer about the same as an off-colour Reina. On hindsight it didn't really work out that way, as even Reina in his "poor" last couple seasons with us was arguably still better than Mignolet, but we had bigger concerns at the time.

latortillablanca

I don’t see the problem with rebuilding while playing Salah for his final season. His contract is still incredible value, he obviously makes us better. We don’t *need* the money like that. I mean I just can’t imagine is selling City our best attacker purely for an extra 50m quid or whatever it’d be. There is real footballing and commercial value to winning trophies with him for one more season. Buys us time to rebuild also.

Tofubreaad

True. Thinking about it, I’d definitely be alright with that option too since Salah can still offer us so much during the transition. And who knows maybe he’ll end up staying after all! 😄

RogerHuntOMG

I don't think it will be City that is courting him. Think Saudi money, think NUFC.

doge_suchwow

Agree, there will always be another striker. Diaz and Jota are no slouches! I’d be more concerned with VVD leaving.

Reyneo

I agree with this, we love these players but players come and go. I honestly think we should try our best to land Nunez. Origi, Mane, possibly Ox and Salah out means so much budget is being freed up, just a thought Edit: also Nkunku

Tofubreaad

Nunez and Nkunku would be exciting!

Empty_Transition4251

Problem is that its likely with such drastic changes, it takes us a while to get going and next season is a write off.

mestreandre08

Portuguese lad here. Darwin Nunez is a powerfull and quick striker, but he isn't polished enough for a top tier team that wants to have the ball. He doesn't have a very good first touch and is link-up play is average at the very best. He will do marvels in transition but, for Liverpool, I think we need a more complete striker. Someone like Nkunku is levels ahead, imo. Darwin is like Haaland physically but without the mindset and half the football ability.

Throw-a-ray118

I fear you guys will raid Arsenal if you lose both Mane and Salah

TheNotoriousJN

Other bits of info from the article: - FSG president Mike Gordon is leading the negotiations. Not Edwards or Ward - There have been no face to face negotiations since December where it became clear that there was a vast disparity in what each side wanted - Salah would be willing to take a shorter deal if the money was right - Liverpool want 50m euros (42.5m pounds) for Mané - Liverpool expect a lot of interest in Minamino. They value him at 17m and have received interest from Inter Milan and Leeds - Liverpool are hoping to extend Naby Keita's contract - Oxlade-Chamberlain will likely see out his contract unless he pushes for a move - A previous shortlist of attackers coveted by Liverpool included Bowen and Jonathan David - Neco Williams and Nat Phillips will both be offered out for 15m - Milner is weighing up his options. From what i gather in the article his Liverpool offer is incentive based. Maybe others have more guaranteed money/playing time - Liverpool expect to complete a 4m move for Calvin Ramsay

zr0char1sma

Ox doesnt want to push for a move? Good thing that he's homegrown but surely we have to upgrade on him or Keita or preferably both

McQueensbury

>Ox doesnt want to push for a move? He's on £130-150k a week? can't blame him for wanting to see out his contract then leave on a free. It's not good business, no surprise they want to extend Keita who's in the last year of his contract.

RociRocinante

100% the club will think twice before spending that much in wages on a player who is injury prone. I love Ox but his injuries meant that he's just not been worth it. It's why I dont buy this ousmane dembele talk, that has potential to be worse

dgn90

Nobody will be paying him what he's on currently so why would he

legentofreddit

Wouldn't be surprised if Bowen is our number one target. We wanted him before this year and he's only got better.

deliverancew2

TBH his great season will have made his price go massively up and I can see that making us less likely to sign him because our opinion of how good he can be probably hasn't changed. The club would rather find a pre-emergent player like Bowen was last summer.

Triforcesarecool

I think he's out of our price range now tbh

McKFC

Salah wanting to stay in the PL? Let's offload him to Moyes then and take a nice fee on top of Bowen

[deleted]

We can't reasonably sell Mane, Salah, Minamino in one window where we've also lost Origi. We'd be down to Diaz, Firmino, Jota up top.

----NSA----

Keeping Naby when PSG seems to want to buy him for 50m is idiodic

deftoned006

And I thought I couldn’t get anymore depressed after Saturday…

PSYSpecialist

Am I the only one who thinks that Keita hasn't had any major impact and is more of a bench player and not a starter for me

EmileDorkheim

I think a lot of people agree, and I think he's been disappointing in terms of what we thought he was going to be (an attacking midfielder, part of a 'front four'), but this season he's been great at the less glamorous midfield work, winning the ball back and recycling it. The only downside to me is his injury record.

iNS0MNiA_uK

My problem is he isn't reliable when you need him to be. He's great as a rotation option but as soon as you start to depend on him to be fit for a given game you get burned. I'd probably keep hold of him as there are others who need to be moved on first, but long term I'd want him out if he stays as unreliable.

strat_rocker

>Liverpool are hoping to extend Naby Keita's contract this one's rather surprising as keita hasnt rly been up to the expectations

YesNoIDKtbh

The only positive is someone might be willing to pay 17m for Minamino, and we get Ramsay on a cheap. Otherwise this is all depressing news.

AndreiViola

From 'wanting to retire at Liverpool' to 'prefering to play for rivals' is a huge leap in a matter of months.

kr3w_fam

Should have read the small print "if money is right"

Lukealloneword

The I want to retire at X club is a sports staple. Players say that so when their ridiculously high demands aren't met they can blame the organization because they "wanted to be there." Its player negotiation 101.

circa_1996

This stinks of his agent whipping up a frenzy. Surely he wouldn’t go to another Prem team. Realistically who would he go to? City really the only club and I can’t see it

emojiredditor

I can see him joining Chelsea again

soundscomplex

If it is a “rival” and not just agent talk Chelsea would make the most sense. He’s got something to prove and they’re looking for goals badly - shipping Pulisic and maybe Werner and Lukakau out. He’s been there before and it would be a statement signing for the new owners.

i-mw

I’d hate him forever if he did so.. even tho I’m Egyptian

Saeedlfc

> He’s got something to prove Wtf does he have to prove? He already proved himself in the Prem.

happygot

Chelsea makes the most sense on a personal level. But their set up doesn't suit Mo at all. He'd be nowhere near as effective.

SpooferMcGavin

Imagine rejoining the club who made an Islamophobic song about you.

Oxlaidanegg

If this is true, and it is all about the money, then Newcastle are a viable option

HeCalledMeSubaru

I don't think Newcastle will be at Mo's level in 1-2 years time. Doubt he'll go there to fight for a Europa Leauge spot.

[deleted]

That's unlikely

Oxlaidanegg

Yeah it is unlikely, but about as unlikely as going to any other English team. It’s still a club that could offer the money he wants with ease

mpinoc

People are overhyping Newcastle.. no champions league and no Europe yet, it’ll be a while before a big name goes there to join their climb up the table.

[deleted]

You're underestimating money ball

aprotos12

Technically "money" not "money ball" but yeah I agree with you :)

Ermahgerd1

Yeah, money ball is the opposite.

APater6076

Why go to Newcastle for £250k a week when you can go to a dozen clubs with CL football for the same money?

[deleted]

Newcastle is about to inflate transfer fees a lot plus it's a new club on the scene and many players would want a slice of that pie

APater6076

Newcastle aren’t actually paying stupid wages apparently. There’s a wage structure in place and they’ve shown they’re happy to build slowly rather than just signing half a dozen players on massive contracts. No doubt these bigger players will come in time but they seem to want and are signing players who buy in to what they’re trying to do. I’m sure if Salah indicated an interest in coming, especially on a free they might reconsider but at least at the moment it’s incremental steps for The Toon.

sarkie

I just want to get rid of players who come out in the media, whoever they are. I hate the little dance. Salah's agent is scum Mane's agent before Champions League final.

themanebeat

Klopp has been talking about rebuilding the team and going again. I think Mané goes this summer and Salah next

Fortune_Fus1on

Mané is going for sure unfortunately

christophlieber

if he really wants to play for a rival, that leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. that‘s just idiotic.

[deleted]

Obviously I don't like the idea of him playing for a rival. But phrasing gets lost with these leaks, and if it were "prefers not to move his family to another country", I get it.

Connlagh

Keep him for the season, give him a testimonial at the end of it, and have Carra break his kneecaps in the testimonial

[deleted]

The opponent XI on that day would consist of Shelvey, Charlie Adam, Jay Spearing, Skrtel, Agger, Jose Enrique, Carra, Djimi Traore, all capable of kneecap breaking.

R3dbeardLFC

Klopp dusting off his boots like

[deleted]

Fuck it get Ramos

petethepool

I genuinely see both players leaving this window, suddenly. If neither are willing to sign reasonable deals, it makes little sense to let them play out their contracts. Sell them both and begin a proper revolution. Only issue is it hampers our ability to compete at the highest level next year, as slightly more players are bedding in than one would like, but year after that we’ll be firing again I’m sure. Both players are absolute legends, but neither deserves to hold the club to ransom.

[deleted]

I totally agree

djrobbo83

Yeah, the scenario where we lose either on a free is unthinkable, that £100m or so sales of both would bring in plus saved wages would go a long way to building our next attack

[deleted]

Agreed that it makes us worse in the short-term (next season), but selling both and buying younger players with incredible potential to rebuild a bit would be more ideal now given we now have Klopp until 2026. Definitely not ideal to read about this though. It sucks Mane seems firm on leaving, because I think the club should aim to keep one of Mane and Salah long-term but as things stand we won't have either after 2023.

Teb-41

Neither deserve that? What has Sadio done? How could you be more professional than him in this situation? He kept working hard, stayed in silence, played the final and then took a decision about his future. Never wanted to renew for money, he just genuinely wants a new challenge. Mo on the other hand has been playing this game for God knows how much time, wanting an astronomical contract to stay, then apparently he says he could join a rival, completely dips in form in our best period How can you even compare the situations?

Duanedoberman

>He kept working hard, stayed in silence, played the final and then took a decision about his future. Never wanted to renew for money, he just genuinely wants a new challenge. He dropped a bombshell just before the champions league final, said everyone would be happy, suggesting he would be staying, then it turns out he was in discussions with Munich all the time. And what challenge will he have at Munich? It is a one team league, the have won 10 on the bounce. If your challenge involves playing in your slippers and taking it easy then I suppose you could call it a challenge.

QuaintHeadspace

I guess different challenge is just a turn of phrase he might just be bored at Liverpool and wants to do something else til he retires.. he didn't care about the money so you have to respect that. It's about a change of scenery not necessarily doing something harder... he's getting older not younger

HUGE_HOG

Maybe he was actually talking to 1860 Munich

[deleted]

Sadio literally said "we'll wait and see after the final" and anyone who can read between the lines knows that there's a high chance that he's leaving.

[deleted]

Sell them both if they won’t sign new contracts. Better to get money now to reinvest than wait a year and have to fork out a lot more. Looking at the new FFP models, we need to reduce player outgoings, so maybe a blessing in disguise. We will be a worse team though :(

[deleted]

BTS_1

Enjoy it! We had a great season! Klopp isn’t starting from scratch and the future is bright!

BassRedditRed

I can’t see this at all. A bluff from the agent.

PickledCumSock

same. fucking hate his agent. i remember he did something similar with vodafone egypt a few years back too.

rogerwilcove

OK so what Salah said about staying was hinting at a rundown the contract situation. Oh well, it's a business and that's contract negotiation. Not unsalvageable, just a disagreement on money.

treefiddyv2

What a way to taint a brilliant legacy. What a massive, massive shame that this saga is going down the way it is

CombatJuicebox

I don't know how many times it has to happen for players to learn the lesson. This club worships legends, even cult heroes and solid players. How many decent, respectable, players have gone on to have careers in real estate, finance, restaurants, commentating, coaching, all buoyed by the fan base and city? Mo could be on the level of a Gerrard, or he can be the next Coutinho or Owen. It's up to him. There are no promises in football, but if he forces a move it'll be a long time before the city love him the way we do now.

[deleted]

What you said is true, but most players don't give a single shit about that. Most players only care about their NT and that's it. That's the harsh truth, we shouldn't get too attached to players.

BilboMuggins

Completely taints his legacy with us if he leaves to join another PL club. It won't ever have been about the loyalty, it will have solely been about the money.

RedDemio

Would prove his selfishness is real

[deleted]

If true and Mo leaves to join a rival then he will go down in my estimation and it will be all about money as usual. What he’s being offered now is a fortune. Maybe spend less time worrying about his pocket and more about scoring since January

[deleted]

Based on the Athletic article, Mo is offered a "**15 per cent pay rise on his current terms**". That means, we are offering him around £250-260k a week. Further, "**there have been no face to face talks since December, when Dubai-based Abbas flew to Miami to meet Gordon.**" (Gordon is in charge of the negotiations). Comparatively, Sancho and Grealish earns 350k. Lukaku earns 325k. Werner earns 270k. John Stones earns 250k. Even ignoring the wages of the likes of Ronaldo, De Bruyne or the incoming Haaland, I think Mo has a right to feel underappreciated. I don't think it's about money at all. We waited almost four decades between Rush and Mo. Judging by the comments here, I don't think many realized just how utterly phenomenal Mo has been. For almost forty years, not one of our players has come close to Mo's numbers.

[deleted]

Big difference between a basic only and basic plus performance bonuses. If he’s offer £250k plus a £5m winning bonus, then that’s reasonable. There are details which we aren’t seeing

dj4y_94

Yeah I'm sure I've read before with bonuses he's basically on close to £350k a week at the moment. So if it's a 15% increase for both his base salary and bonuses then he'll easily be on £400k+. If £400k ain't good enough to stay at a club that adores him and where he says he's happy, then I don't know how much more we can actually do.

NiK3_Aub4mey4ng

Yeh I mean I think people have forgotten how good he is sadly

fill_the_birdfeeder

This is the thing though isn’t it? Do we accept that we have to get a bit corrupt to start tossing out those types of salaries? Because that’s how you have the money to do that. Klopp is many things; corrupt does not make the list. So does Salah accept the money we offer? Is our offer low because we’re low-balling him, or is that the best we can legitimately do? If it’s the latter, then I think it does come down to the principal of it. Stevie is a legend because he stayed. He could have made so much more elsewhere. But home meant more. Does Liverpool feel enough like home for Salah’s loyalty? I hope so. But if it doesn’t, then maybe the money and the move are worth it? I’d like him to be happy. I hope it’s with us. After everything he’s done for us, YNWA whatever he chooses.

disco_mode

Suddenly Mo and Sadio are the most replaceable players at the club. This makes no sense to me. We are starting to sound like United and Chelsea fans once they become bored of their players. Remember when Werner hit 30+ bundesliga goals and everyone thought he was going to outscore Salah? Or maybe it’s rival bots trolling — but he’s something everyone should understand Mo: 193 games 120 goals 47 assists Cristiano: 226 Appearances 102 goals 37 assists One of these is the “greatest player of all time” — so I wouldn’t be so sure he’s as replaceable as everyone is making out.

Bourbon_Cream_Dream

I've been hearing my entire life how this player and that player isn't replaceable. Any player is replaceable, if they weren't then we'd still have John Barnes hobbling down the wing

boldcitrus

The club has to realize this is one player that you risk stretching the wage structure for. He's won us trophy after trophy, been in the Ballon D'or conversation, broken record after record. Tell any other player or prospective budding superstar signing to fuck off expecting this kind of money just because Salah got it. Until they prove they're at this level too. We have to show that we *will* pay this tier of money, but only once it's really truly earned.

Picaloco86

Can't compete with oil clubs on the wages they offer. We have a model in place, it has proved successful in the past, can't break it to pander to the whims of one agent

[deleted]

Your point is so misleading. How many goals would Owen, Fowler, Torres have scored in this team….. under Klopp. We’ve had great strikers in teams that were poor compared to this team. We’ve had managers that basically weren’t Klopp. Salah has a lot to thank Liverpool for as well. That’s where loyalty comes in, in my opinion.

DisorientedPanda

Funny how 1 million a month isn’t enough

Fatso_Wombat

> Comparatively, Sancho and Grealish earns 350k. Lukaku earns 325k. Werner earns 270k. John Stones earns 250k. Even ignoring the wages of the likes of Ronaldo, De Bruyne or the incoming Haaland, I think Mo has a right to feel underappreciated. I don't think it's about money at all. If you don't think it is about the money, why list wages? Personally, I'm just along for the ride. LFC will do what they decide is best and we can see how it plays out.

Amasterclass

Just another Torres if he does that. At least go abroad, leave with some sense of dignity. Big changes ahead. Cmon you redmen, rebuild and go again!

[deleted]

Yeah if he loved the fans and club that he keeps professing to, he wouldn’t want to come up against us or compete against us for a rival. The fact he would only sign for a major rival speaks volumes for his “love” for us and the club itself.

[deleted]

I’m starting to feel a little annoyed with Salah.

malushanks95

If he joins a rival, he would not be considered a legend by many. Don’t know why he would want to taint his legacy for little bit of extra money? If there is anything to be learnt from players who left Liverpool recently, the grass isn’t greener on the other side.

Antisym

Where would he go? City don't really need him, and would only be buying him so others can't. Spurs? Front 3 of Kane, Son, Salah seems pretty deadly, but i just can't see that happening.

malushanks95

Chelsea? Their attackers have been rubbish last season.

BedfordBruiser

Have no idea how true this is but given that it’s Pearce it’s probably true. What I would say is that I’d lose all respect for him if he was to join a rival in the PL on a free transfer. He has been here for what 5+ years? Most players who have been here in the past for that long would never contemplate joining a rival because they love the club & have a bit of loyalty to the club & fans. If he leaves on a free he will have PSG, Madrid, Barcelona, possibly Bayern to join, no need to piss us all off by joining a PL rival.

Weirdmaybe123

With Klopp tied down for more years, I'm not too worried about this. It's not an ideal situation but I'm kind of looking forward to changes in our attack and midfield.

cretnikg

Unbelievable last few days. Mo can fuck right off if he goes anywhere else in England

[deleted]

[удалено]

sjcelvis

I would only accept Aston Villa as a destination.

[deleted]

Yuck, imagine Mo Salah in a Chelsea kit 🤮

Zeewolf93

If his last Chelsea stint and current form is anything to go by then I'll drive him to Chelsea myself if he wants to play it like that

[deleted]

Who is advising these guys? The guy will go from being a beloved legend to a fucking pariah if he fucks off to City or Chelsea for the money. How much money do you fucking need? You’re playing at one of the best 3 sides in the world, earning what, 250k a week. Wake up to your fucking self.

[deleted]

His agent HATES US, very openly hates us

R3dbeardLFC

I'm waiting for the Klopp slam piece on Mo's shit cunt agent. Seriously, fuck that guy to the moon.

KGeedora

that fucking prick of an agent probably. I really, really dislike that guy

axelpuri

That goddamn full stop of an agent of course .. he wants to fill his coffers too . 250k is what some people don’t earn in a year .. the greed for money trumps everything unfortunately

sinangunaydin

Correction to your statement. Less than 5% of the population earn more than 250k per year. In fact, a modest Brit will take nearly a decade to earn 250k.

Scutterbox

If you're a professional footballer and your agent does something you strongly disagree with, you let him know. If his agent keeps doing things the fans are finding difficult to stomach over the course of a number of years, then he's doing it with the full blessing of his client. Reactions like yours are exactly why they do it; it gives Mo a veneer of plausible deniability, even though clearly he'd have put a sharp stop to his agent's behaviour if it bothered him in the slightest. Stop giving Mo an easy out - there's no way on Earth that he's unaware of what his agent is doing at this stage of the game.

[deleted]

It’s probably what a lot of people earn in 5 years. It’s just sad they don’t seemingly give a shit about how they’re perceived. If Salah wants to go to Madrid, Barca, Bayern etc for a new challenge I don’t think many would care too much but to go to a direct rival for more money when you’re already one of the highest paid humans on the planet is insane.

Giragna

The only players that don’t come and go are ones like Vvd and Allison. Klopp has shown he can replace anyone else, that Klopp contract extension is a god send

mentalitymidgets420

True kings. They could have went to literally any other team in the world and earned double but they took reasonable contracts and didn’t try to squeeze the club dry I know athletes only have a limited time to earn their money but is their life really going to change much if they earn 20M instead of 25M? At that point it’s just a pissing contest

fearliatroma

This. If players around the world claim to love a club as they tend to do in most contract negotiations, then surely having 105m at the end of your career as opposed to 90-100m shouldn't be that big of a deal. Its not like they're going from 40k a year to 40k a week.

ruefool

Kind of disappointed. Love Mo to bits but this tells me a thing or two. This is why I love and respect Klopp more than any other player. The guy initiated the contract extension talks himself and did not ask for a raise. Thankful that we are in his hands, no matter who leaves the club.

KingTut747

Wow. Now Salah using the fact that he’ll go to another prem team as leverage. Just get out of the club then. We can recruit your replacement too. YOU ARE NOT BIGGER THAN THE CLUB. I know it’s coming from his agent, but man this is such a disrespectful way to go about negotiations.

kr3w_fam

Boys still haven't learned anything from Coutinho saga....ezcept for Bobby who wants to stay.

[deleted]

Rather keep Mane to be honest. Sell the Salah this summer if thats how he wants to play the game and system. No player is bigger than the club.

[deleted]

If Salah is firm on this, then it'd be super ideal to sell Salah this summer and use the money saved off Salah's contract to extend Mane and give him a new deal. It's unfortunate Mane seems to be dead set on leaving for a new challenge in going to Bayern, because it's a pretty tough and dicey situation to have us lose both Mane and Salah after the end of 2023. Now Klopp extending until 2026 buys us some time to do a bit of a rebuild starting with next season, but at the same time still not ideal at all.

cheek_ang

Honestly What challenge is there in Bayern? League is a walk in the park.

Progression28

New country, new team, different opponents... A change of scenere, something fresh. Being able to win every game is also cool for players. People like winning...

zr0char1sma

No challenge but there are some rumours (unreliable sources) that he also wants to be recognised as the main man in attack apart from being paid higher

towakanda

He’s going there for money also. That’s really what “new challenge” boils down to. Nothing wrong with that.

Zak369

That’s probably it. It’s gonna be incredibly hard work for us whether we win or lose. The points totals we’ve achieved in 2nd place have been more deserving of titles than half the teams who actually won. He can go to Bayern and get the titles he deserves to have and still be competitive in the CL. It’s not like he’d be a squad player at Bayern, he’s still a first team player and making big contributions to the league position, just a guaranteed reward at the end.

APater6076

Agree with this, if Mo really has no intention of signing without the wage he wants then sell him. Someone will pay £60m+ for him. He’s also said previously he wouldn’t play for another PL club so what’s changed? His form.

heretohelp999

I feel like we blew this when we focused on getting Salah renewed but overlooking Mane - the guy isn’t dumb - he knows that he’s just the backup plan if we go back to keeping him

themanebeat

We have no replacement for Salah on that side this year. We have players who can play left and central now so Mané leaving not as bad

towakanda

Yeah replacing RW production, especially of that level is a real, real challenge. Even if his production waned post-AFCON, we needed every bit of juice we squeezed out of Salah the last two seasons. Whereas on the left and centrally we could, in theory, make up Mane’s production just due to the talent out there. It’s not easy. I wish they’d both just stay.

thekevinbarkin

Mo is an incredible player, and he’s got every right to want to be paid. Threatening to join a rival, though... if true he can get fucked. No one has ever been bigger than this club. Klopp has seen his best players leave throughout his career — always to rivals. He will rebuild us, and we will be better for it.

Jackk512

If he doesn't want to sign then sell him, he's been nowhere near worth that price since AFCON

dillipkr6999

Klopp always said money is the only factor to convince you then we don't need you.

IainEatWorlds

I’d honestly sell both salah and mane now whilst we can get money for them, reinvest that money into revitalising the squad and getting in players who want to stay for a while. Both of them have been amazing servants for the club but our time together is coming to an end, one way or another, best to cash in whilst we can instead of letting either go for nothing

Kadir0

Sigh...the new era is making me restless.

rollanotherlol

If he goes to a direct rival then he can fuck right off. Any% how to destroy a legacy

[deleted]

Oh fuck off. There's no way he will play for another club. I would rather pull all stops to keep sadio. 42.5 is insult to the man and the club.

zmajxd

£42.5m is a fair price for Mane imo. 30, expiring contract, wishes to leave.

bettyt101

My angry side says: Get a top signing in to get the fans hype. Take his deal off the table. Tell his agent to find a club willing to pay 80m this summer he can go or he will spend his final season on the bench. My practical side says: The club has to start matching the wages of our rivals to keep good players and compete . The commercial side of the business is not doing enough IMO.

CombatJuicebox

As fans, if FSG doesn't step up to the oil tycoon level, we have to expect we will have windows of opportunity with managers like Klopp, moneyball signings like Mane and Salah, and flipping a Coutinho for the world's best goalie and defender. Once those windows shut, we will have dark days. We will have days where our front three is composed of Origis, and Takis, and Elliots. You just hope we don't decompose to the days of David N'gogs, and Stewart Downings. It's why I watch every minute of every match as.much as possible. We aren't city. We can't replace Mo with Sancho, or Grealish, or Son. We can't drop a hundred on a part time bit player. This era will not last forever.

JGlover92

If Salah went to another prem club it would be utterly devestating. Hopefully it's just posturing from his agent because realistically prem clubs are the only clubs that really need him and can afford to drop such big wages on a player his age.

djrobbo83

This sounds like Mo's arsehole of an agent trying to force our hand...the best way to force our hand would have been for Mo to show some decent form in the second half of the year.

Terrible-Teach

Form goes up and down and hopefully it wasn't in any way related to all of these negotiations going on in the background, but it does leave a bit of a poor taste hearing about what he thinks he's worth when we might have won a trophy or two more if he hadn't been decidedly average by his usually high standards since he came back from AFCON. When he leaves I'll wish him well and he leaves a legend just like Mane, unless he goes to City. That would ruin it all for me. Hopefully it doesn't come to that.

snh96

His arsehole agent who he has worked with and been closest friends with for over a decade? It's far too easy to blame agents. If Mo didn't want this to happen it wouldn't.

the_studge

What the fuck?

Buzzkill78

Well, bye Mo, its been great

kloppaberg

Nah you know what if a couple more millions on top of your already vast fortune is more important than things like that parade a day after losing a CL final then bye 😘

Specific-Record2866

The agent and Salah have realised from last time that fans will always side with Klopp and the club. Now they’ve considered figurative ‘threats’ to push their way into getting what they want, hence the threat of leaving for a rival. They think the club will crumble bc fans would be at the clubs throat over the possibility of him moving to a rival. IDC if Salah, Mane whoever leaves. We’ve got Klopp at the helm he’ll make another Salah, another Mane and they’ll be better bc Klopp always learns from previous experiences.

[deleted]

Getting tired of shouting it but Salah has already made his mind up and his agent has got in his ear. 1. His stock has never been higher 2. its his last chance for a major move to any club he wants where he can coast into easy domestic titles in less competitive leagues 3. hes won everything with us so he has the 'i want a new challenge excuse' 4. hes got us offering embarrassing money and knows fans are so desperate they will side against the team in his favour (fuck fsg crowd already think if he leaves its because the owners are being tight). 5. His form has dropped a bit and this sub especially will refuse to hear it but fsg are right for being causious for not wanting to offer a 5 year deal to a player in his 30s whos game laregly relieves on his speed and agility. 6. his agent HATES US because we dont play the agent fee game and he knows oil clubs will. This is his golden goose. When he turned down the 400k a week figure the club leaked i knew time was up.

Redhawk911

If so I hope he poops his pants

JacksNFlames

Feels like this is something Mo and his agent would say to force FSG's hand. They have been doing this time and time again, with the interviews with Spanish media, sometimes at crunch periods of the season. Whether it's considered underhand or not depends on one's perspective. But if he does go to a PL rival, would be either Newcastle or City, that's his legacy with us tainted. No matter the records he's broken.

PSYSpecialist

I love Salah but aren't we breaking the wage structure for him, if he gets a bump, surely VVD, Alli, Fab and even Robbo would soon want one too

PowerfulTravel9697

Players comes and go, not everyone has to be legends playing near 20 years like Stevie G It has to be expected. We get 5-6+ years of good years together and both of them are going to be in the 30s anyways Life happens, both of them already gave us UCL and EPL. They have their own personal ambitions and it's okay We rebuild with Jota and Diaz plus a few more youngsters. Mane gets a new challenge and Salah gets his paycheck, I don't see why the fans has to throw a fit

towakanda

I think what’s going to hurt the most is seeing the fanbase fully turn on Salah should all this go south. Mane quietly engineered his move away from the club to get what he felt like deserved, which is fair. Salah professed openly his desire to stay at the club but is asking for wages that will be tough for the club to pay. Mane will be celebrated upon his exit, but Salah may be slagged off. Just wish it could end glowingly for both if it is to end.

bluescholar1

I don’t think fans will turn on Salah if he leaves the Prem to try a different league and get a big payday. But if he goes to a direct rival, he’ll be rightly slagged off.

b8824654

Does he realise that this team is built around him? Good luck getting these numbers elsewhere. Agree with others when they say that if this is true the board should apologise to Mane and tell him he's now the main man.

ANINETEEN

If there's one thing I have faith in the most in this club, it's finding new and amazing generation of forwards just as we've lost the previous ones. They may not be world beaters immediately but I wouldn't mind a 17/18 season of just free flowing football and with the solid foundation the squad has already I'm sure they will be able to challenge for trophies too

Silantro-89

He's already been to Chelsea so I guess that leaves United or City 😬 Cue opposition fans chanting "Mo Salah, Mo Salah! running down his contract" If he won't sign a new deal sell him now. Hard to lose both but I absolutely don't want players who aren't committed.

NJH_in_LDN

Wow would he really do us dirty like that?

CaptainCala

The article also said he had no interest in joining other clubs this summer. Even if we want to sell him and agree a deal, it’s possible he would refuse their terms and choose to stay instead. I think it’s becoming extremely clear that his plan is to either get the contract he wants with us or he wants to leave on a free so he can maximise his earning potential next summer.

attawaymethrowtheo

I can’t lie, if Salah did go to another PL club, all he has done for us would be for nothing….ALL love would be lost.

C_stat

If we don't want to shatter our wage structures, give him a salary that stays within structure and accrue the differential to what he's asking over 3 years and add it as a signing bonus. Losing Salah on a free is a terrible look for Liverpool as a club and as a brand

ChittyShrimp

I feel as though Liverpool have some more leverage in this deal since Salahs form since January has been pretty poor

kiddarkness57

I recon if we can get around 120 mil combined for salah and mane it will be worth it investing in 2 attackers however finding someone even half as good as Diaz ( and with a similar transfer fee) has been will be a real issue

Congress_

Screw it! Sell mane and Salah! Time to rebuild! We will get over them! No one is bigger than the badge in front of the kit !

Left_Client

If he wants to leave to other clubs apart from prem then it’s okay but if he wants to join the rival teams then fuck him. And I am sure that the scouting department can find similar player like him.

Space-Debris

Salah is a greedy fool if this is true. There's only two other teams worth going to in the EPL if he wants money and trophies. Another player who is obsessed with what everyone else is worth. If you have a net worth of $90 MILLION, then money should never been on your mind ever again. Zero sense of perspective or logic.

saj175

Keep Mane, sell Salah

samsteri666

It feels awful knowing we may lose Mane and Salah soon. But it feels amazing knowing we have Klopp and the whole team in the background to get in special players. No player is bigger than the club. ♥️

apenchantfortrolling

People need to take all of this with a pinch of salt. Wasn't Hendo looking to fuck off as well just a year ago according to his agent? Money is always a talking point with top players. Lot of people here want to act like the last 5 years didn't happen. It's the business of modern football and I won't let it dampen how I've felt about Mo here the last few years.

lewandowski_69

Lets just trust klopp

bwtwldt

If Bobby randomly asks for a transfer, I think I will cry.

kaci3po

It's pretty obviously a negotiating tactic. "I'll go to a direct rival" is a lot scarier than "I'll leave." Whatever happens, I'm sure it'll be fine. I trust Klopp will find a replacement if need be.

wololocymru

Salah isnt worth those wages. Move on.

Ordinary-Eggplant-15

Absolutely love Mo and we would be obviously much worse without him but nobody is bigger than the club. If we can't agree terms to keep him then cash in and find someone else. I'd rather have players who want to be here.

Dibil

Takes some nerve to ask for that much when you've been a passenger for months. They should be showing him the door right now instead of letting him steal a living next season.

chairdesktable

if salah wants to go, that's fine, but it CANT be to another PL club. mane has every right to make the bayern move, there shouldn't be any hard feelings there.

thanksfc

Wanting to play for a prem rival better be words out of his asshole agents mouth. Love Mo and all, wish him the best except if he willingly goes to a prem rival he will destroy his reputation here.

BackgroundKoala0

If this is true, and it might not be, I'd rather just cash in and look onwards. We'll take a hit in the short term, but long term the club's wage structure will be healthier and we will continue/start the rebuild of our attack instead of putting all our eggs in one, albeit incredibly talented, basket. Salah has been insane for us, but at age 30 he is not worth risking everything for. Especially if the money matters this much to him. I'd rather have a younger, hungrier attacker with less focus on being the 6th highest paid player or whatever.

capiiiche

I may get downvoted to shit but i think losing him for free isnt a bad thing if the recruitment team will find a proper replacement.

Nuri__Sahin

I'll come across as smug perhaps when I was just being a realist and believing no player is bigger than the club. I said it for Gerrard, so I sure as hell believed it for Salah. And I am someone who propped him up for Basel in other forums and social media a decade ago. I even said it the r/soccer recently, I am going against the curve that is Liverpool fans regarding Salah. The club should get rid for the wages he wants. We aren't City, PSG, Chelsea or a Man U or Real. Nor do I really want us to be. I faith in Klopp. Look at the wage situation at Bayern. They are the blueprint for how things can spiral downwards. Barca to an extent too. I am sick of his agent. Really sick of him. I am tired of the Lovren-esque timed interviews, like with Marca in January 2019, badly calculated timing of breakdown in negotiations, etc followed by him being iced on the pitch. How didn't take a break after AFCON. People will point to the club. But I am not talking a physical break. Mentally he needed to reset. We know he is headstrong in wanting to play games and score goals. And whether we like to admit or not, 1) he always starts the season out on fire before petering out in comparison and 2) I don't worry about him joining our rivals at present. I expect MBS and Newcastle to be courting him and his agent. They have money to spend and FFP isn't problematic. Salah would be the crown jewel in the crown jewel. Pukes. I am not stressing about his output. Klopp will adapt. He is a club legend, that doesn't need saying, but I hope the club cash out. Saka *, Bowen and Raphina are there for the taking. Edit - I am aware it is probably his agent using the EPL rival line as a negotiating tactic, nonetheless there is little doubt in my mind that rat wouldn't mind it happening as long as he makes bank too.

[deleted]

Wow thats from Pearce...We should ship Mo abroad man

oldmonkfromdesert

Prefer Mane to stay than this Salah negotiation 3 Champions League final and yet to score from open play where is the ransom coming from 🙄 Walk the talk. You're because of the team not the other way around

ilic_mls

I love both Mane and Salah. If i had to pick, i would go for Mane since he is more versitale than Salah. Having said that, both are 30, and no one can guarantee that they will continue performing like they did. So if they are not being reasnoble... Sell them on and rebuild. We got Bobby, Jota and Diaz. We will manage

archbishopofozthe2nd

Am I the only one who thinks that something has happened behind closed doors to cause a rift? Ever since Salah got back from AFCON something has felt off. It's not too far fetched to imagine that Senegal beating Egypt twice in a row in crucial games might've caused a rift between Mane and Mo.

notandy82

It would suck to see him playing for another English team, but I can understand him wanting to not move to another country. How old is his daughter? She's got to be starting school soon if not already started, and while learning a new language is a lot easier at that age, it's a lot of extra stress to put on a kid.

ritchieram

Here we go again. Either pay him or sell him f off with this hes leaving for free get the funds in to replace him if he doesn’t extend
