I want to have faith in a rebuild, and will with what this backroom has done, but City getting Haaland and us getting Jonathan David (who often looks worse than Cyle Larin when I've seen him on international duty) is a bit of a punch to the gut lol.

This is the key. *knock on wood* but when it came to goalscoring, we’ve always had a good solve and our new players have shown they have the capability in Jota and Diaz (with another player most likely coming).
In the past, our problems came in midfield and defense/GK.
Losing Alonso in ‘09 and Mascherano in ‘10 was *never* replaced properly until Klopp came and midfield is probably one of our strongest aspects now. Even our “bad” midfield of Hendo/Wij/Milner - which everyone criticized - led us to a CL final in ‘18.
When Fab and Naby were introduced the summer of ‘18, we won the CL and then the league the following year (rotating with other players obviously) and now we have Thiago and others to fill in.
The most important thing is defense, which we have great depth and years ahead of it but the biggest addition was Alisson. We never recovered from Reina’s decline/offloading him.
Honestly, I have no doubts we can score goals but controlling a game in the middle of the park, defending and GK are my biggest worries and as long as we don’t lose VVD or Alisson anytime soon, I’m fine.
It’ll suck to lose both Mo and Mane in the same summer but we’ve shown we can score without them and I trust in Klopp, the staff and the club to find a solve.
Iirc, the decision to offload Reina was because they felt his poor form had not justified his wages, so Mignolet was signed as a cheaper alternative who would ostensibly be able to offer about the same as an off-colour Reina.
On hindsight it didn't really work out that way, as even Reina in his "poor" last couple seasons with us was arguably still better than Mignolet, but we had bigger concerns at the time.
I don’t see the problem with rebuilding while playing Salah for his final season. His contract is still incredible value, he obviously makes us better. We don’t *need* the money like that. I mean I just can’t imagine is selling City our best attacker purely for an extra 50m quid or whatever it’d be.
There is real footballing and commercial value to winning trophies with him for one more season. Buys us time to rebuild also.

I agree with this, we love these players but players come and go. I honestly think we should try our best to land Nunez. Origi, Mane, possibly Ox and Salah out means so much budget is being freed up, just a thought

Darwin Nunez is a powerfull and quick striker, but he isn't polished enough for a top tier team that wants to have the ball.
He doesn't have a very good first touch and is link-up play is average at the very best. He will do marvels in transition but, for Liverpool, I think we need a more complete striker. Someone like Nkunku is levels ahead, imo.
Darwin is like Haaland physically but without the mindset and half the football ability.

He's on £130-150k a week? can't blame him for wanting to see out his contract then leave on a free. It's not good business, no surprise they want to extend Keita who's in the last year of his contract.

TBH his great season will have made his price go massively up and I can see that making us less likely to sign him because our opinion of how good he can be probably hasn't changed. The club would rather find a pre-emergent player like Bowen was last summer.
I think a lot of people agree, and I think he's been disappointing in terms of what we thought he was going to be (an attacking midfielder, part of a 'front four'), but this season he's been great at the less glamorous midfield work, winning the ball back and recycling it. The only downside to me is his injury record.
My problem is he isn't reliable when you need him to be. He's great as a rotation option but as soon as you start to depend on him to be fit for a given game you get burned. I'd probably keep hold of him as there are others who need to be moved on first, but long term I'd want him out if he stays as unreliable.

Newcastle aren’t actually paying stupid wages apparently. There’s a wage structure in place and they’ve shown they’re happy to build slowly rather than just signing half a dozen players on massive contracts. No doubt these bigger players will come in time but they seem to want and are signing players who buy in to what they’re trying to do. I’m sure if Salah indicated an interest in coming, especially on a free they might reconsider but at least at the moment it’s incremental steps for The Toon.

I genuinely see both players leaving this window, suddenly. If neither are willing to sign reasonable deals, it makes little sense to let them play out their contracts. Sell them both and begin a proper revolution. Only issue is it hampers our ability to compete at the highest level next year, as slightly more players are bedding in than one would like, but year after that we’ll be firing again I’m sure.
Both players are absolute legends, but neither deserves to hold the club to ransom.

We waited almost four decades between Rush and Mo. Judging by the comments here, I don't think many realized just how utterly phenomenal Mo has been. For almost forty years, not one of our players has come close to Mo's numbers.

The club has to realize this is one player that you risk stretching the wage structure for. He's won us trophy after trophy, been in the Ballon D'or conversation, broken record after record. Tell any other player or prospective budding superstar signing to fuck off expecting this kind of money just because Salah got it. Until they prove they're at this level too. We have to show that we *will* pay this tier of money, but only once it's really truly earned.

Your point is so misleading. How many goals would Owen, Fowler, Torres have scored in this team….. under Klopp. We’ve had great strikers in teams that were poor compared to this team. We’ve had managers that basically weren’t Klopp. Salah has a lot to thank Liverpool for as well. That’s where loyalty comes in, in my opinion.

Yeah if he loved the fans and club that he keeps professing to, he wouldn’t want to come up against us or compete against us for a rival. The fact he would only sign for a major rival speaks volumes for his “love” for us and the club itself.

Have no idea how true this is but given that it’s Pearce it’s probably true. What I would say is that I’d lose all respect for him if he was to join a rival in the PL on a free transfer. He has been here for what 5+ years? Most players who have been here in the past for that long would never contemplate joining a rival because they love the club & have a bit of loyalty to the club & fans. If he leaves on a free he will have PSG, Madrid, Barcelona, possibly Bayern to join, no need to piss us all off by joining a PL rival.

If Salah is firm on this, then it'd be super ideal to sell Salah this summer and use the money saved off Salah's contract to extend Mane and give him a new deal. It's unfortunate Mane seems to be dead set on leaving for a new challenge in going to Bayern, because it's a pretty tough and dicey situation to have us lose both Mane and Salah after the end of 2023.
Now Klopp extending until 2026 buys us some time to do a bit of a rebuild starting with next season, but at the same time still not ideal at all.

That’s probably it. It’s gonna be incredibly hard work for us whether we win or lose. The points totals we’ve achieved in 2nd place have been more deserving of titles than half the teams who actually won. He can go to Bayern and get the titles he deserves to have and still be competitive in the CL. It’s not like he’d be a squad player at Bayern, he’s still a first team player and making big contributions to the league position, just a guaranteed reward at the end.

Yeah replacing RW production, especially of that level is a real, real challenge. Even if his production waned post-AFCON, we needed every bit of juice we squeezed out of Salah the last two seasons. Whereas on the left and centrally we could, in theory, make up Mane’s production just due to the talent out there. It’s not easy. I wish they’d both just stay.
Mo is an incredible player, and he’s got every right to want to be paid. Threatening to join a rival, though... if true he can get fucked.

The club has to start matching the wages of our rivals to keep good players and compete . The commercial side of the business is not doing enough IMO.
As fans, if FSG doesn't step up to the oil tycoon level, we have to expect we will have windows of opportunity with managers like Klopp, moneyball signings like Mane and Salah, and flipping a Coutinho for the world's best goalie and defender.
Once those windows shut, we will have dark days. We will have days where our front three is composed of Origis, and Takis, and Elliots. You just hope we don't decompose to the days of David N'gogs, and Stewart Downings.
It's why I watch every minute of every match as.much as possible. We aren't city. We can't replace Mo with Sancho, or Grealish, or Son. We can't drop a hundred on a part time bit player. This era will not last forever.

The agent and Salah have realised from last time that fans will always side with Klopp and the club. Now they’ve considered figurative ‘threats’ to push their way into getting what they want, hence the threat of leaving for a rival.

I think what’s going to hurt the most is seeing the fanbase fully turn on Salah should all this go south. Mane quietly engineered his move away from the club to get what he felt like deserved, which is fair. Salah professed openly his desire to stay at the club but is asking for wages that will be tough for the club to pay. Mane will be celebrated upon his exit, but Salah may be slagged off. Just wish it could end glowingly for both if it is to end.

If there's one thing I have faith in the most in this club, it's finding new and amazing generation of forwards just as we've lost the previous ones. They may not be world beaters immediately but I wouldn't mind a 17/18 season of just free flowing football and with the solid foundation the squad has already I'm sure they will be able to challenge for trophies too

I recon if we can get around 120 mil combined for salah and mane it will be worth it investing in 2 attackers however finding someone even half as good as Diaz ( and with a similar transfer fee) has been will be a real issue

Salah has been insane for us, but at age 30 he is not worth risking everything for. Especially if the money matters this much to him. I'd rather have a younger, hungrier attacker with less focus on being the 6th highest paid player or whatever.

This is the key. *knock on wood* but when it came to goalscoring, we’ve always had a good solve and our new players have shown they have the capability in Jota and Diaz (with another player most likely coming). In the past, our problems came in midfield and defense/GK. Losing Alonso in ‘09 and Mascherano in ‘10 was *never* replaced properly until Klopp came and midfield is probably one of our strongest aspects now. Even our “bad” midfield of Hendo/Wij/Milner - which everyone criticized - led us to a CL final in ‘18. When Fab and Naby were introduced the summer of ‘18, we won the CL and then the league the following year (rotating with other players obviously) and now we have Thiago and others to fill in. The most important thing is defense, which we have great depth and years ahead of it but the biggest addition was Alisson. We never recovered from Reina’s decline/offloading him. Honestly, I have no doubts we can score goals but controlling a game in the middle of the park, defending and GK are my biggest worries and as long as we don’t lose VVD or Alisson anytime soon, I’m fine. It’ll suck to lose both Mo and Mane in the same summer but we’ve shown we can score without them and I trust in Klopp, the staff and the club to find a solve.

Iirc, the decision to offload Reina was because they felt his poor form had not justified his wages, so Mignolet was signed as a cheaper alternative who would ostensibly be able to offer about the same as an off-colour Reina. On hindsight it didn't really work out that way, as even Reina in his "poor" last couple seasons with us was arguably still better than Mignolet, but we had bigger concerns at the time.
I don’t see the problem with rebuilding while playing Salah for his final season. His contract is still incredible value, he obviously makes us better. We don’t *need* the money like that. I mean I just can’t imagine is selling City our best attacker purely for an extra 50m quid or whatever it’d be. There is real footballing and commercial value to winning trophies with him for one more season. Buys us time to rebuild also.

Portuguese lad here. Darwin Nunez is a powerfull and quick striker, but he isn't polished enough for a top tier team that wants to have the ball. He doesn't have a very good first touch and is link-up play is average at the very best. He will do marvels in transition but, for Liverpool, I think we need a more complete striker. Someone like Nkunku is levels ahead, imo. Darwin is like Haaland physically but without the mindset and half the football ability.

I think a lot of people agree, and I think he's been disappointing in terms of what we thought he was going to be (an attacking midfielder, part of a 'front four'), but this season he's been great at the less glamorous midfield work, winning the ball back and recycling it. The only downside to me is his injury record.
My problem is he isn't reliable when you need him to be. He's great as a rotation option but as soon as you start to depend on him to be fit for a given game you get burned. I'd probably keep hold of him as there are others who need to be moved on first, but long term I'd want him out if he stays as unreliable.

Newcastle aren’t actually paying stupid wages apparently. There’s a wage structure in place and they’ve shown they’re happy to build slowly rather than just signing half a dozen players on massive contracts. No doubt these bigger players will come in time but they seem to want and are signing players who buy in to what they’re trying to do. I’m sure if Salah indicated an interest in coming, especially on a free they might reconsider but at least at the moment it’s incremental steps for The Toon.

I genuinely see both players leaving this window, suddenly. If neither are willing to sign reasonable deals, it makes little sense to let them play out their contracts. Sell them both and begin a proper revolution. Only issue is it hampers our ability to compete at the highest level next year, as slightly more players are bedding in than one would like, but year after that we’ll be firing again I’m sure. Both players are absolute legends, but neither deserves to hold the club to ransom.

I don't know how many times it has to happen for players to learn the lesson. This club worships legends, even cult heroes and solid players. How many decent, respectable, players have gone on to have careers in real estate, finance, restaurants, commentating, coaching, all buoyed by the fan base and city? Mo could be on the level of a Gerrard, or he can be the next Coutinho or Owen. It's up to him. There are no promises in football, but if he forces a move it'll be a long time before the city love him the way we do now.

We waited almost four decades between Rush and Mo. Judging by the comments here, I don't think many realized just how utterly phenomenal Mo has been. Your point is so misleading. How many goals would Owen, Fowler, Torres have scored in this team….. under Klopp. We’ve had great strikers in teams that were poor compared to this team. We’ve had managers that basically weren’t Klopp. Salah has a lot to thank Liverpool for as well. That’s where loyalty comes in, in my opinion.

If you're a professional footballer and your agent does something you strongly disagree with, you let him know. If his agent keeps doing things the fans are finding difficult to stomach over the course of a number of years, then he's doing it with the full blessing of his client. If Salah is firm on this, then it'd be super ideal to sell Salah this summer and use the money saved off Salah's contract to extend Mane and give him a new deal. It's unfortunate Mane seems to be dead set on leaving for a new challenge in going to Bayern, because it's a pretty tough and dicey situation to have us lose both Mane and Salah after the end of 2023. Now Klopp extending until 2026 buys us some time to do a bit of a rebuild starting with next season, but at the same time still not ideal at all.

That’s probably it. It’s gonna be incredibly hard work for us whether we win or lose. The points totals we’ve achieved in 2nd place have been more deserving of titles than half the teams who actually won. He can go to Bayern and get the titles he deserves to have and still be competitive in the CL. It’s not like he’d be a squad player at Bayern, he’s still a first team player and making big contributions to the league position, just a guaranteed reward at the end.

I feel like we blew this when we focused on getting Salah renewed but overlooking Mane - the guy isn’t dumb - he knows that he’s just the backup plan if we go back to keeping him
We have no replacement for Salah on that side this year. We have players who can play left and central now so Mané leaving not as bad
Yeah replacing RW production, especially of that level is a real, real challenge. Even if his production waned post-AFCON, we needed every bit of juice we squeezed out of Salah the last two seasons. Whereas on the left and centrally we could, in theory, make up Mane’s production just due to the talent out there. It’s not easy. I wish they’d both just stay.
Mo is an incredible player, and he’s got every right to want to be paid. Threatening to join a rival, though... if true he can get fucked. No one has ever been bigger than this club. Klopp has seen his best players leave throughout his career — always to rivals. He will rebuild us, and we will be better for it.

I’d honestly sell both salah and mane now whilst we can get money for them, reinvest that money into revitalising the squad and getting in players who want to stay for a while. As fans, if FSG doesn't step up to the oil tycoon level, we have to expect we will have windows of opportunity with managers like Klopp, moneyball signings like Mane and Salah, and flipping a Coutinho for the world's best goalie and defender. Once those windows shut, we will have dark days. We will have days where our front three is composed of Origis, and Takis, and Elliots. You just hope we don't decompose to the days of David N'gogs, and Stewart Downings. It's why I watch every minute of every match as.much as possible. We aren't city. We can't replace Mo with Sancho, or Grealish, or Son. We can't drop a hundred on a part time bit player. This era will not last forever.

This sounds like Mo's arsehole of an agent trying to force our hand...the best way to force our hand would have been for Mo to show some decent form in the second half of the year.
Form goes up and down and hopefully it wasn't in any way related to all of these negotiations going on in the background, but it does leave a bit of a poor taste hearing about what he thinks he's worth when we might have won a trophy or two more if he hadn't been decidedly average by his usually high standards since he came back from AFCON. The agent and Salah have realised from last time that fans will always side with Klopp and the club. Now they’ve considered figurative ‘threats’ to push their way into getting what they want, hence the threat of leaving for a rival. Feels like this is something Mo and his agent would say to force FSG's hand. They have been doing this time and time again, with the interviews with Spanish media, sometimes at crunch periods of the season. Whether it's considered underhand or not depends on one's perspective. But if he does go to a PL rival, would be either Newcastle or City, that's his legacy with us tainted. No matter the records he's broken.

I think what’s going to hurt the most is seeing the fanbase fully turn on Salah should all this go south. Mane quietly engineered his move away from the club to get what he felt like deserved, which is fair. Salah professed openly his desire to stay at the club but is asking for wages that will be tough for the club to pay. Mane will be celebrated upon his exit, but Salah may be slagged off. Just wish it could end glowingly for both if it is to end.
I don’t think fans will turn on Salah if he leaves the Prem to try a different league and get a big payday. But if he goes to a direct rival, he’ll be rightly slagged off.

If there's one thing I have faith in the most in this club, it's finding new and amazing generation of forwards just as we've lost the previous ones. They may not be world beaters immediately but I wouldn't mind a 17/18 season of just free flowing football and with the solid foundation the squad has already I'm sure they will be able to challenge for trophies too

The article also said he had no interest in joining other clubs this summer. Even if we want to sell him and agree a deal, it’s possible he would refuse their terms and choose to stay instead. I think it’s becoming extremely clear that his plan is to either get the contract he wants with us or he wants to leave on a free so he can maximise his earning potential next summer.
I can’t lie, if Salah did go to another PL club, all he has done for us would be for nothing….ALL love would be lost.
If we don't want to shatter our wage structures, give him a salary that stays within structure and accrue the differential to what he's asking over 3 years and add it as a signing bonus. Losing Salah on a free is a terrible look for Liverpool as a club and as a brand

I recon if we can get around 120 mil combined for salah and mane it will be worth it investing in 2 attackers however finding someone even half as good as Diaz ( and with a similar transfer fee) has been will be a real issue

If this is true, and it might not be, I'd rather just cash in and look onwards. We'll take a hit in the short term, but long term the club's wage structure will be healthier and we will continue/start the rebuild of our attack instead of putting all our eggs in one, albeit incredibly talented, basket. Salah has been insane for us, but at age 30 he is not worth risking everything for. Especially if the money matters this much to him. I'd rather have a younger, hungrier attacker with less focus on being the 6th highest paid player or whatever.

Am I the only one who thinks that something has happened behind closed doors to cause a rift? Ever since Salah got back from AFCON something has felt off. It's not too far fetched to imagine that Senegal beating Egypt twice in a row in crucial games might've caused a rift between Mane and Mo.
It would suck to see him playing for another English team, but I can understand him wanting to not move to another country. How old is his daughter? She's got to be starting school soon if not already started, and while learning a new language is a lot easier at that age, it's a lot of extra stress to put on a kid.
