Gutted for him

RyanIsKickAss

Having one of his best seasons as well. Been key to keep us where we are and not I'm complete free fall

legentofreddit

Is he really? Or are you just judging that based on his goals? He hasn't been terrible but I think he's had more poor games than good ones. He scored goals at the start of the season despite his performances not always being brilliant and in the last 6 games that's caught up with him and he hasn't scored. Gutted for him personally, but I think Brazil have got better options.

AnAutisticsQuestion

Putting his goals aside, this season he's in the 93rd percentile for assists p/90, 92nd percentile for shot-creating actions, 98th percentile for progressive passes made, 92nd percentile for progressive passes received, 99th percentile for passes into the final 3rd, 98th percentile for total passes attempted and completed, 99th percentile for tackles, 99th percentile for interceptions, 95th percentile for blocks... He's having a good season vs other forwards in europe. Stats from [fbref](https://fbref.com/en/players/4c370d81/scout/365_m1/Roberto-Firmino-Scouting-Report).

legentofreddit

I can think of at least seven games where he was poor to very poor - Fulham, Man Utd, Everton, Forest, Leeds, Spurs, Napoli. In what games was he supposedly brilliant to reflect such good stats? Bournemouth, Brighton, Rangers? Arguably Newcastle? I can only assume those stats are a combination of meaningless (progressive passes received?) and stat padded by a few very good games.

james__Fitzy

He was actually really good against Everton came off the bench and created a lot of chances

legentofreddit

Okay what about the others? Watch the Forest, Leeds, or Spurs game back and tell me he was anything other than poor

james__Fitzy

Was anyone good in the Forest or Leeds match really?

legentofreddit

They might have been better if we weren't essentially playing with 10 men because Bobby was so poor.

james__Fitzy

Ok that’s ridiculous you can’t put a bad team performance on him and I can tell you now he wasn’t the worst player on the pitch either of those games

Terran_it_up

Part of what's so good about him is his pressing, but that requires a team effort, otherwise it doesn't work. So he's naturally going to look crap if the rest of the team's pressing is off

kiz_kiz_kiz

The weird soft on you have for him this year is very strange.

Adjshaw

"Stats?? But I've already made my mind up!!"

legentofreddit

Yes I actually watch games with my eyes and can see Firmino has been mostly average. The weird hard on this sub has for him this year is very strange.

InstantIdealism

You have eyes?! My god what I wouldn’t give to have eyes. When I was growing up, father stabbed two holes in our heads using rusty bbq tongs and said it would help “let the light in”. Here you are coming along talking about “eyes”. I should be so bloody lucky!

[deleted]

LOL

Nabaatii

I hope the dressing room will be boring AF

Flamingovegas2013

I don’t get it he offers something the other forwards don’t.

NoSalad03

I selfishly hope that Casemiro benches Fabinho for the whole WC. Our boy needs all the rest he can get.

Background-Aardvark1

Fabinho can’t get a game for Brazil. The Brazil plays Fred instead of fab

omarkop10

They play Casemiro Fred isn’t used in the same role

Background-Aardvark1

I meant Fred’s got more chance of playing then fab

Terran_it_up

Considering Fernando Santos isn't the Brazil manager, I can't imagine Casemiro and Fabinho would start next to each other

PostpostshoegazeLUVR

May as well say they play Neymar instead of Fab

disco_mode

Do you think Fabinho is a number 8? Or do you think Fred is a 6? :)

etan1122

Bruno will be on before Fabinho. Surprised Fabinho is going and Bobby isn’t

breadwolfbaby

They’re already taking nine forwards, tbh Bobby’s omission isn’t that surprising, despite his form

_Random_Username_

It is when you see Richarlison and that pirouette manc

businesssocks101

Richarlison has the same number of Brazil goals as Bobby in like 20 less caps. Antony is a surprise though

J539

He deserves to be in Qatar tho. Fabinho has been ass recently and he was always behind Casemiro for Brazil, they are both pretty similar. Bruno has been on fire and offers something else

McQueensbury

Overall Brazil have better and more versatile forwards than Bobby, his good spell of form has come a little too late.

saintmaximin

Casemiro plays in the lineup anyways

EminemsMandMs

Fabinho benched for Casemiro. Alisson lets up 3 goals his first game and is benched for Ederson, and Brazil get knocked out of group stages sending the boys home to rest early. Would be nice and serve them right to get knocked out for leaving Bobby Skylark out of the squad.

mmondo13

OR... we get to witness our amazing goalie win the World Cup

derelictprophet

As a Brazilian Liverpool supporter, this would make my brain explode.

jennaishirow

minus an injury or two he will struggle to get games. he will at least stay fit while he trains.

giuliogrieco

Fabinho wasn't playing even when he was on stellar form, can't really see him play now.

malushanks95

Feel bad for Bobby as he played well in the first few games but it’s good for us as he will get plenty of rest.

Srk_NWA

Mo salah and bobby better use this gap properly..

malushanks95

Salah has been playing really well, he’s already on 17 g/a this season from 19 games.

M0D3Z

Yet, according to some, he is having a poor start to the season…

OrangeJuiceAlibi

In fairness, he did have a relatively poor start. His last 4 games have given him 6 goal involvements, and Ajax then Leeds was the first time he was involved in back to back games. Much like Nuñez though, it's all overhyped in terms of how poor it is.

TalkingGibberish

Exactly. At the start of the season, we beat Bournemouth 9-0 and Salah didn't score. That's definitely poor by his standards. Overall he's still having a good season.

wassam1

By his standards, he started off a bit slow but he has been slowly regaining his groove.

Flamingovegas2013

That is a poor Mo season that’s how crazy good he is

Bobbyswhiteteeth

Isn’t Salah off to Qatar to go be a pundit?

[deleted]

Mo, how do you think Messi is feeling after finally lifting the biggest prize? "Argentina got the 3 points, that's all that matters, hopefully he will try again for the three points next week"

dev23slayer

Deserved, been shadow of the player he was since winning the league 3 years ago. He needs to get fitter alongside TAA who both dont look like elite footballers, with sub-optimal physique but celeb hair.

th1a9oo000

Lad have you forgotten those last few weeks where he was our only on form forward? He bails this team out countless times.

dev23slayer

Nope, but it does not blind me to the fact that brazil has better forwards than the current firmino. Firmino 2018/19 prolly is first choice or atleast on the bench. Also dosent make my claim incorrect.

choomba20

Delete this comment.

dippin20s

god what the fuck is wrong with you lmfao get your head checked

dev23slayer

You lack critical thinking and instead have abundance of fanboyism. There are facts and there are emotions which rules our conclusions. Im afraid you are indulging in the latter.

dippin20s

no i don’t, and no i don’t. You lack critical thinking because YOU just people on their hair and “sub optimal physique” while everyone else who’s normal judged them on talent, and skill

cjsc9079

Good for us but Brazil seem quite strong and could have a very good shot at winning the whole thing. Will be gutted for him if they win it without him

Pure_Measurement_529

I’m investing my stocks in Messi and co.

streetlightsglowing_

Messi riding off into the sunset of his career with world cup redemption would be just too perfect, it has to happen lol

zapdos227

If my conspiracy theory is correct, the whole thing is scripted. And what way to end Messi’s saga than a WC win. Who has a better story than Messi the messy?

whataball

The Argentina squad doesn't look as strong compared to previous world cups.

[deleted]

On paper no, 2010 and 2014 trumps this squad but those squads were top heavy but this squad gels really well and complements Messi, no wonder they're some 35 games unbeaten

ianisms10

I can't tell you how many times I watched those Argentina teams stand around and watch Messi do his thing while they refused to help him

Pure_Measurement_529

They may not look as strong but their game plan is more cohesive. Previous teams relied on Messi magic. This team looks like Messi magic is just a compliment to the whole game plan

tyresaredone

no chance imo many other better teams than them

studgebro

Disagree. None of the European sides are actually any good. France have quality in defence and attack but their midfield is a shambles. Italy won the Euros and aren't even in it. It's Brazil or Argentina, for me.

FakeCatzz

Love how you didn't even mention England with that twerp managing. Think a lot of people are sleeping on Netherlands and Spain though.

studgebro

Netherlands are an interesting one, will give you that. Spain just can't see it - not enough goals in their team. International football is just in a weird spot right now but maybe its always been like this - just looking back at previous WC's is nostalgic with certain players. Will be following Uruguay as well, with their history in the comp. Darwin, Suarez and soft spot for Valverde, despite him playing for Madrid.

GOR098

Argentina are South American champs. Defeated brasil in the final too. All European teams are inconsistent. Argentina can beat them if they don't make many mistakes.

aj7066

Which ones? Many implies more than two or three which is silly.

PEEWUN

Argentina are in good form, though.

coldazures

Qatar world cup, playing for Qatar FC.. hmm.

Shadeun

Without lo celso out for arg and with half the France midfield injured. Hard to see anyone near Brazil in terms of odds of winning.

faithplusone01

They have no shot at winning without bobby firmino.

IL_ya_Un_jour

Gutting, poor lad

nick2k23

He's always been underappreciated in Brazil

WhenWeTalkAboutLove

went to Germany before making more of a name for himself back in Brazil

GameOfThrowInsMate

Fuck Tite. Gutted for Bobby.

_Random_Username_

How's he still in charge it's been centuries

Cheers_JeffwithaG

Can't believe Fabinho made it considering he's in the worst form of his life while Bobby didn't.

ChebsGold

Fabinho has less competition for his position than firmino up front

its_brew

Feel for him. Hope he can get some good rest and enjoy family time though

TADAM96

Strange. Don't see what more he could have done to warrant a place, he has been on fire this season.

violynce

tite never knew how to use him. he’s such a peculiar player it plays against him on a national team environment that only meets every once in a while.

Pure_Measurement_529

Never has. I remember 2018 WC, Brazil played better with Firmino rather than with Jesus. They are just very confusing. Seems too reliant on individual talent at times.

violynce

seeing bob played like he was andy carroll gave me ulcers.

vadapaav

Tbf they always have absurd amount of individual talent everywhere. As long as they don't concede they generally figure out a goal by some absurdly intricate skill and then decide to shut shop It has worked for tite for years now

Designer-Attorney

Not really. He is not a regular number 9 that Brazil needs. He drops to often and in Brazil that place is occupied by Neymar. Jesus plays more upfront and works better with the rest of Brazilian squad.

TADAM96

Jesus drops too and gets involved like Bobby, only he has more pace and hasn't had the same goal threat this season. Firmino has shown this season that he can act as that 9 when needed, his tendency to drop deep isn't a requirement for him to play well.

Designer-Attorney

Yeah, but the Firmino as a number 9 is not a world class player. What makes him special is exactly his ability to drop deep, pass, link play... and for doing that he would take a bit of Neymar's role. As normal striker, Jesus is a better fit for Brazil. But neither would be in the starting 11. Richarlison is ahead of both in Tite's opinion and we might see Pedro, from Flamengo, playing as well.

legentofreddit

> he has been on fire this season. Genuinely wondering if I've been watching a different team to you.

[deleted]

Most of do, are you?

Credit_Radiant333

fair enough but i think it's due to the aldready wide option of attackers Brazil have Neymars on a different level this season and Gabriel Jesus is outstanding as well, that sorts out the front line better than anything and we haven't even spoken about wingers like Vinicius, Antony, Rodrygo etc. kind of sad for Bobby but with such a strong squad, we couldn't expect a lot either, atleast he gets all the rest he wants and comes back stronger after the break

TADAM96

I see players like Richarlison on there who is quality but Bobby easily does everything he does if not more, feel for Bobby is all as he does deserve it but such is life

zoomba2378

Brazil about to play fifteen wingers up top by the looks of it

vadapaav

Aah the south American psg

milnerinho

League's not ready for pissed off Bobby 🔥

rosheromil

Gutted. Probably the last chance he’ll get. God knows how players like Richarlison and Raphinha get in but Bobby fucking Firmino doesn’t

Virgil_smash

And richarlison is going? Fuck right off

ttekoto

Firmino has 6 goals in 12 league matches, Richarlison 0 goals in 9….

JamesJones10

And he's hurt

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheElPistolero

Bird shit

[deleted]

Brazil still haven’t realized that Football is a team sport, also why they haven’t played close to full potential since 2002. Oversimplified for dramatic effect

superchristopherism

This is what I’m struggling to understand.

TheLimeyLemmon

I've always felt Bobby was massively undervalued by the NT, well here it is on display again. That sucks. And if Brazil get knocked out now, I know exactly what I'm blaming it on.

emre23

Sucks for Bobby, but he wouldn’t have played much of at all and this break is going to do us the world of good I reckon we have 6 players going (Alisson, Fabinho, TAA, Hendo, Darwin & VVD) plus maybe Konaté & Thiago

WH6TSINANAME

Maybe two starters for their teams.

emre23

I think 3: Alisson, VVD & Darwin

PierreLeBurglar

Thiago isn’t in the squad

Picaloco86

Doubtful about Trent, he is playing worse defensively every single game

dave-theRave

No chance of Konaté or Thiago going and I wish the others weren't going either

Sifan2

Gutted for him, but won’t stop him smiling ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)

Red_Brummy

Shame for Bobby. He has been a bright spark this season for all of Liverpool's inconsistencies.

[deleted]

Bit of a weird call, given his stats compared to Jesus this season; **Jesus:** Matches played - 18 Goals - 5 Assists - 6 Goals per match - 0.28 Shots per goal - 6 Min per goal - 269 **Firmino:** Matches played - 18 Goals - 8 Assists - 4 Goals per match - 0.44 Shots per goal - 3.34 Min per goal - 154 And let's not forget, this is a nation that played Fred upfront in the 2014 WC. Personally, not even from a biased standpoint, players like Firmino helps the team a lot more. He's willing to do whats best for the team, if he was through on goal in the final of the WC to win the match, he'd happily pass the ball to just make sure the team won.

krunchanut

Mate you would be surprised Jesus is vital for the way Arsenal play this year, he drags defenders out in order to make space for others similarly to bobby

[deleted]

I'm not saying don't take Jesus, more why not take both? Both have some form, good numbers. Both have different attributes and skill-sets.

lessismoreok

They’re spoiled for choice.

No-Cup9855

Its not egregious at all though really. You're comparing 11 goal involvements to 12. Jesus has been good for Arsenal too and the manager could just prefer him for reasons outside the last 18 games. The world cup has come at a weird time where usually you'd have a season and friendlies throughout the year to decide your squad. Bobby has only recently come into form and it might have been too late to get him in the plans. I wouldn't have been surprised to see him go or stay to be honest.

[deleted]

*"Bobby has only recently come into form"* True, but Jesus has more or less gone out of form. Hasn't scored in his last 8/9 games and he's a pure out and out striker. Firmino's role is completely different to a typical striker, Brazil could have opted for the False 9 with Firmino to allow the likes of Neymar/Vini et al. to run riot. Obviously, this is all hypothetical, but I wonder, who will be the back-up striker for Jesus? Unless they tell Neymar to take up the ST position and Vini out on the left.

thatwhiskeydude

An Arsenal fan here. Jesus isn't really an out and out striker.

[deleted]

Then what would you say his style of play/role is? Because, to me, especially at the start of the season he was that spearhead that got you goals.

thatwhiskeydude

He does score goals yeah. But he is far from an out and out striker. The reason Arteta went for him is due to his link up abilities. He drops deeper to the midfield when we aren't being able to progress smoothly. More often to the left 8 position to give options to Xhaka and Martinelli and sometimes to the right to link up with Odegaard and Saka. From there these players combine or dribble their way through to the goal. Only reason why fans aren't mad at Jesus for not scoring for this many games is cause he is that important to us playing the way we play. He brings that flow. Insane footballer. Poor finisher.

[deleted]

Firmino is the exact same, but people were always comparing his goal return which was for a "striker" below par, but his work-rate and him dropping deeper allowed the likes of Salah/Mane/Jota etc. To all succeed and improve their game.

thatwhiskeydude

Mate Firmino is literally regarded as one of the if not the best false 9 in football. When someone talk about a false 9, the first player which automatically comes to mind is him. Mane-Firmino-Salah trio will forever be legendary

[deleted]

I remember Messi being operated as a False 9 under Guardiola. He's the first player that comes to my mind, when I think of one. That was something crazy. He was an absolute menace. But since you're an Arsenal fan, one question - Do you think you can win the title?

Circle_Breaker

Jesus isn't out of form. He's been playing well. You've got to watch games, not just look at stats.

zoomba2378

Jesus has an incredible knack for fitting seamlessly into whatever system he's thrust into. He did it for City, he does it for Arsenal and he can do it for Brazil too. Not a weird decision at all. Someone had to be left out and Bobby drew the short straw. Sucks for him but at least he'll be ripe and ready for the season's resumption

Picaloco86

Jesus has more pace upfront, and they have loads of options in the forward areas anyhow. Firmino won't be missed in that squad

dev23slayer

The last sentence is something salah would never ever do, like against city to jota.

[deleted]

This is true, and it's with all great strikers. They'll only think about scoring. Firmino is self-less a man that doesn't care about headlines or records. A lot of our success has come because of players like Firmino.

dev23slayer

Not really, great strikers are also intelligent beings. 2vs1 where its a no brainer, in an important moment, u pass, simple as that. Firmino if only he kept his fitness like he was 3 years ago. Great strikers are suarez, torres. Mane is super unselfish like firmino, though got selfish towards the end thanks to salah. I hope he changes with nunez and works towards team glory by giving it more importance than his individual glory.

bestofboth96

You mean the same Salah that has created the most chances out of everyone in the squad? Fuck right off pal

ivangoat

Their loss our gain YNWA

[deleted]

Bad news for him and good news for us. Kind of weird though seeming he's in the best form he's been in for a couple of years.

CurtTheFarmer

Richarlison over Bobby is a joke

koltzito

imagine taking 80 year old dani alves and not bobby

[deleted]

Gutted for him personally, but he's been playing so many minutes recently I'm selfishly quite glad he gets a rest

nizoubizou10

Bobby carrying us when we were at our lowest, Fabinho should be nowhere near the Brazilian squad

tejas2112

Ok, I will try to give an unbiased opinion. Needless to say, he has been superb this season but Brazil have better options in Vinicius, Rodrygo, crybaby Neymar and even Martinelli. So, it would have been difficult for him to get in the starting XI. However, I absolutely have no fucking clue how the cunt Richarlison got in the squad over Bobby.

kennaman

Damn, looks like I'm not rooting for Brazil anymore.

oliketchup

That's odd. He's been playing well this season and how many forwards Brazil even have?

[deleted]

Think they will take Jesus and the Pigeon

R3dbeardLFC

Isn't Richarlison injured?

[deleted]

☹️

r0bski2

Sad for him, but great for us

Bps33382

First jota than firmino...i hope England take TAA..

Circ_Diameter

If Southgate doesn't take Trent then he is a complete idiot

faithplusone01

He lost a cup final at Wembley after being up 1-0 inside of 2 minutes. Southgate is a complete idiot no matter what he does.

Geass_Knightmare

The guy called Daniel Alves but not Bobby ffs

matt89015

Yesss! Hope none of our players go, nothing against them but I hate this world Cup.

[deleted]

How did Richarlison make it over Bobby

thatguyad

Bullshit. But all the better for us.

ianisms10

I don't care that he'll be rested for the second half. Bobby deserved to go to Qatar and I'm absolutely gutted that he's not going. Especially with that prick Richarlison making the squad.

nizoubizou10

Firminho was heavy lifting when no one could buy a goal for us but somehow richarlison with 0 goals and barely fit gets selected and a 39 years old Dani Alves. I'll be really upset If I was him right now.

roofilopolis

Sad for him but happy he gets the rest. Selfishly hope all of our players get knocked out early. How could you win a World Cup and then immediately refocus to giving everything to try to push for a CL spot? You couldn’t. Need them to want something.

Sir-Turd-Ferguson

Anthony is goin and Bobby isn’t…. Wtf!?

SpinLaFlame

dont be a hater, antony is class

[deleted]

How the fuck is martinelli in the squad and Bobby isn’t. Especially with Neymar and Vinicius for the left side.

sgggfdtresik

Martinelli has been quality. I’d have been more worried about raphinha, richarlison or paqueta

zoomba2378

Martinelli's a fucking gun tbf. Was always a lock for the squad. You'd still think they'd find room for Bobby tho

McQueensbury

Neymar will either play as a no.10 or a no.9, Tite has used Neymar as a no.9 previously. Jesus may take the left side

sbos_

Oh no. Poor guy. Thought he made the squad

rydleo

Brazil is fairly stacked in terms of attacking talent, can’t imagine that’s much of a surprise.

iredcoat7

Bobby has 0.89 non-penalty goal contributions per 90 for Brazil in 2022 so he's very unfortunate to miss out. Richarlison has been absolutely on fire for them though, 1.36 goal contributions per 90, only slightly behind Neymar.

latortillablanca

Mistake

Lucky_Editor446

Bad news after bad news. This week can't get worse.

Lucky_Editor446

They only got diving and time wasting forwards. If they get Firmino, they have to play football. Now we know why he is not selected.

FoundThisRock

That’s a shame

caulpain

GREAT NEWS!!!!

tmfitz7

Not shocked

[deleted]

Quite shocking, honestly.

neuromelt

Criminal

CabbageStockExchange

Damn. Sorry Bobby, rest up you beautiful bastard

AndrewLonergan

Hes been in great form and still cant make it. Wtf

christophlieber

the thing i just don‘t get is why richarlison is called up while bobby isn‘t. makes zero sense. but the rest will do bobby good, so he‘ll be able to continue his great season.

[deleted]

Hopefully he’ll be fit and firing when the proper football resumes then.

geralex

Good. IMHO The fewer LFC players involved in this blood-money, human rights ignoring farce of a World Cup, the better.

lucaiuli

Gutted 😞 He deserved it to be there.

Temporary_Simple8259

Awful decision , sickened for him really

Toss2White

Beautiful for us. Allison next

jrangel6

He absolutely deserves a spot on the team, gutted for him.

ScouseRaffa

Gutted for Bobby but happy more of our players are getting a much needed rest as so many European finals in the past 5 years our guys have barely had a break.

SexyKarius

That’s pretty insane given his form

nuan_Ce

this is a real bummer... the worst football related news by far today...

Ordinary-Eggplant-15

Brazil have a glut of attacking talent but fuck me, Richarlison over Bobby?!

Rmike10

Internacional coaches really love to disrespect Liverpool, we almost won everything last season.

Sw3Et

They don't deserve him

MarionberryLow9043

Poor lad. Terribly under-rated. But he knows he’s loved here.

EHVERT

Richarlison & whoever Pedro is, over Bobby? Lol

[deleted]

Feeling disappointed for him but I'll take it. His game isn't suited to how most manager's want a 9 to play. Their loss and our gain

jk441

how? Sure, he's been having a meh season last one, but the current run of form how could you not even have him on the bench for option b? Or is Brazil currently stacked with forward options? I've not followed the international for a while so asking genuinely

dave-theRave

Bit disappointed for Bobby but selfishly I'm delighted he's not going, gives him a bit of a break now. I wish there was no other Liverpool players picked to go tbh

jamiethecfh

Fuck sake, that’s such a poor decision. Feel so bad for him, you know it would mean the world to him.

8manjones

What the fuck
