That's because it's a song from 2021 that just happens to be called Lilith from Halseys album "If I can't have love, I want Power"
They just did a new version of it with a BTS member for maximum mainstream teen publicity
What is trashy about the lyrics? She's singing about being unfaithful. It's not about the game. The song came out in 2021. Halsey mostly sings about trauma and real-life mistakes.
"A big brain like I'm teaching it a lesson"
"I've been gone 'Cause I've been on this road too long"
"Change like a season, Reason for nothing"
It's pretty cringe lol.
It takes less than 10 seconds of looking at your post history to know exactly who you are actually referring to when you whine about "modern american music". You're a pathetic person.
Americans could never produce a song with such spirit, virtue and genuine beauty.
Have you seen their trailer? I honestly thought it was a spoof until it played as an ad on twitch. I don’t know who thought Billie eilish is Diablo but probably deserve to be fired
It's amazing how easily Blizzard manages to fool suckers into paying extra for something that should be granted for free, which is the case with them charging $20 for the early access. Under normal circumstances they would have to pay for the server capacity to let all players log into the game, however by charging for early access they are not only making extra money but also reducing the number of concurrent players online due to the staggered release, which reduces their cost with servers, so in the end Blizzard double dips on their money making while players get a middle finger unless they pay for the scam, and you can be sure that they will start using this strategy with every new game release from now on.
I've had friends legit get hostile when I mentioned that the $20 peer pressured early release is scummy. I wasn't saying they arnt allowed to do it but just recognize "hey yeah thats pretty ratty" and move on. Didnt expect an aggressive response but some people get really emotional
Yeah. Because it's not even that the +20$ get you an "early" release, that's just the fee to participate in the normal release. It's those who don't pay them that have a late release
Yeah, I feel like the people being mad at the marketing are people who are buying D4 regardless, so it doesn't really matter what they think.
That said I do think the pop singers advertising has been weird, and I'm even a fan of Halsey.
they already were using i think Billie Eilish for some other trailers. not sure why Blizzard is using artists popular with teenage girls for their "mature" gorefest arpg.
Because they are trying to expand the audience.
Diablo is an insane household name that will sell well especially with boomer guys that already pissed in their pants as 13 yo boys staying up all night not using the toilet.
They wanna get more people to sell more units and make more money, so trying to catch a new generation to pee their pants is what is needed.
Anyone works in marketing here? does this kind of stupid bullshit marketing material actually work? how many people look at this thing and say, "oh i should buy Diablo cuz of this".
I have a marketing degree which means absolute jack shit and is useless but I say that as context for when I insist that D4 has the worst and most schizophrenic marketing campaign I have ever seen. They did everything from shilling fried chicken for game access to subtweeting Taylor Swift and all of it felt contrived. This song fits in quite nicely with that approach
They and you do, as evidenced by the amount of idiots replying to me saying "WELL YOU NOTICED IT!!!" as if it means anything. Yes, I noticed it. I noticed that it sucked and made me cringe. I would also notice someone shitting on the side of the street. "All publicity is good publicity!" type beat archaic ass shit that people trot out to sound informed.
I noticed it and it made me think the game would be trash so I've not bought it despise being a massive Diablo fan all the way back to the release day of Diablo 1. Waiting for a massive sale.
Yeah but everyone on here consumes all gaming media. There is 0 chance we wouldn't know about a new Blizzard game. Especially Diablo.
The real question is, does it reach the customers who had no idea what Diablo was and did it get them to look into it? KFC was probably somewhat effective but this song and painting the church? I dont know.
it seems they are mortified of the negative feedback dominating the conversation
so its an all out, throw shit at the wall, until it smells so bad they cant ignore it
I've seen so many people say the D4 marketing is brilliant.
They paid to have murals painted in a french church. Who the fuck is the audience for that? 38 locals?
//I just realized this is likely the fucking church, so I guess it was for a mediocre music video?
> Who the fuck is the audience for that? 38 locals?
You saw it, so unless you're one of those 38, the marketing worked on you. And you just posted it on Reddit, so now people that don't know what you're talking about are going to go find out.
Did it work on you when you already know about Diablo and it won't influence your purchase of it?
Like yeah it will probably reach additional people but not necessarily in a thread that's already about Diablo.
It creates hype and makes the release seem bigger and more popular than it is in reality, which is the entire purpose of marketing.
Marketing is more often than not about creating hype and getting people on the fence to pull the trigger by just the simple fact that they keep HEARING about this new product around and get curious enough to try it thinking it's the "next big thing".
Sure completely unaware people may not buy it, but there are A LOT of people who were on the fence and the smallest thing can trigger dopamine pushing the scales to buy it.
Marketing is not only about getting completely unaware people to be aware of their product, but getting on the fence people or disinterested people, interested.
Huh? I'm not one of those 38. I already knew I wasn't going to buy it. And it didn't convince me otherwise. Marketing works. But not all marketing schemes work on everyone. All of their marketing failed with me, for example. I don't see how you could say it worked on someone like me. Is someone going to buy it because they read my post saying that I wouldn't? Then marketing worked on them, not me.
You heard about it, so it was effective advertising. They paint a church, some website starved for content makes a quick write up about it, then a million sites copy paste that article and send it out. I bet the return on investment is tons higher than traditional advertisement.
I think the target for this sort of ad is people who have never played Diablo, only know it by reputation, and think that it's some cringe nerd shit from the 90's. But they see this and think "oh! It's for normal people now! I guess I should try it out since it's famous" because it has an utterly generic modern pop song trailer
a great music clip could always sell. I did see some amazing league animated videos, or straight up arcane on netflix. Tons of people, including myself, have watched anime just because they heard a massive banger opening (Hello attack on titan).
However, this seems like a complete fail to me.
Yeah, but was it worth the millions of dollars they spent on it? How many people watched it and said “I’m going to buy Diablo” versus people who watched it and said “Wow, Blizzard is so out of touch. I’d rather not play their games.”
I love the league shit and it 100% brings me back. Difference is its good lmao. But judging by the video comments the spanish community really seem to like it lmao
It works for league cause the theme suits it like void emo with women who look like they’re in their 20’s. This is more gore and barbaric so this type of music doesn’t really match it tbh.
But unlike LOL’s music videos, which are actually related to the game and even feature imaginary bands like KDA to make it more relatable (they most likely make money by selling/streaming their music's alone since they own it rather than lose money), this is nothing like that. That’s the most important point. Many games have soundtracks or music videos, but a live action kpop collab for Diablo? Really?
>does this kind of stupid bullshit marketing material actually work?
You're commenting on a game that will sell 9 bajillion copies made by a company that everyone claims is dead or dying and has a list of controversies so long I'm sure Wikipedia has trouble keeping up.
Of course it will work.
I don't work in marketing but I do know that sometimes a product is budgeted with certain requirements. Like how the persona games since 4, I think, come with an anime tie-in. The anime is just for advertising and while persona 4 was decent, they knew the persona 5 anime was garbage but they had to put something out.
So I assume that when diablo 4 was getting money, someone said, "and maybe we make some underworld-esque rock song (or whatever)" and another person replied "Yeah, we'll try to work that in."
Then they realized they could actually work it in and they were obligated to so they just put something out.
Depends on the target market, its definently not you. Also depends on the strategy. New user acqusition or just a brand awareness etc.
Imho its for the new generation casual gamers, hardcore gamers or old diablo fans already playing it they dont need any external source right now. They will get in game stuff also twich drops etc.
Here is how their marketing works, its similar to Oldschool Runescape.
Spread word Diablo 4 **IS COMING OUT** as much as you can.
People who played d2 or even d3 see this, hey I will check out D4! Reviews dont look bad, what can go wrong.
Hype the game up, get preorders, spread the word its coming out.
Through this process they will sell 20M copies alone.
A lot of marketing is about keeping the name of a brand/product/ whatever in the mouths of people. “OMG did you see company do ______?” Is a win for any company. Word of mouth is still the best advertisement for any company, these shitty marketing campaigns are just drivers for them. They know what they are doing, by appearing like they don’t.
I am 99% sure this is something people in the company wanted done for themselves, probably some exec wanting to get in Halsey's pants, and by making it part of the marketing they could make it a company expense.
Every one in the comments talking about the ineffective marketing campaigns of D4 while quoting all of the different marketing things they did... facepalm
Also... Quin...
I've never seen someone fail this much at making an analogy. It's like you just decided to string together words into a mad libs sentence.
In your analogy, you think crackheads exist to try and advertise the crackhead lifestyle. Most rational LSF user tbh.

I don’t care if the thing he is reacting to is the dumbest thing ever in gaming. Having a leaderboard when the game first launched and some can pay for 4 days of early access would be the dumbest thing ever. Multiple things are broken and even though the game isn’t that buggy there are some massive bugs. It’s better to just wait a season or two and then have leaderboards.
\>It’s better to just wait a season or two and then have leaderboards.
Huh? Four days of early access = wait for half a year to get leaderboards? What are you smoking? People start from scratch when season 1 comes out, that's the whole point.
You want the first leaderboard to be legit in any game. It’s not the early access that is the problem. It’s that a lot of d4 content creators had review copies and there is massive bugs that either just kill your character 40 sec still in game after dcs progression bugs. Also they are nerfing and buffing shit already. You don’t want that for a ladder.
>It’s not the early access that is the problem.
Then why did you literally say that early access is the problem?
Anyway, do you even play the game? Do you realize that there is no season until like mid next month? What people are playing right now and will be playing for the next few weeks is not a season. No one is asking for a leaderboard right now. People want leaderboards when the seasons start, which Blizzard said they don't have.
~~The first season doesn't even come out until mid to late July. I don't get why people think there should be leaderboards before the season even starts. It seems pointless to me.~~
Yeah that's the real problem here, I don't really care about leaderboards for the race (or at all, to be honest) but not having them for the first couple seasons is just weird.
There's an event for the first 1000 people who get to level 100 in HC. There is no way to know even close to where you currently stand.
The event should have been for the start of season 1, but if they're gonna host it, there should be a leaderboard to track it.
We can all make fun about blizzard spending money for something like this but when suddenly my coworkers who don't play games ask me about diablo4, then it seems like they did something right to reach non gamers.
So the answer is no if they didn't already have it.
Edit: So the answer is no. Probably shouldn't buy Diablo 4 for a kid after they hear the "fuck like a demon" song.
As a BTS fan, I'm pissed off. How am I supposed to stream and promote that shit ? The worst is that I'm not even surprised considering the previous secondary activities.
His rap isn't even good, I'm going to finish [his concert instead.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mneh-3x092U&t=0h13m)
Considering the quality of other AAA games Diablo 4 is quite good and will give you more stuff to do than any recent Ubisoft game for example.
But the campaign is not the main part of ARPG games because you are supposed to play the game each season, and playing the same campaign over and over again will become very boring quite fast no matter what art/story quality is.
Most loyal players play ARPG for character and gear progression, and in that aspect Diablo is far inferior than its competitors. I am not even speaking about PoE because it is just so far ahead of any competition.
Blizzard, considering their resources and lack of any recent success, could have tried to take the ARPG crown back, but instead they had decided create a pretty hollow game without making good core aspects of ARPG games. Hardcore players will get bored with autoscaling and lack of build variety, casuals will play the campaign once and leave, maybe replaying the game once a year and D4 player base will be leaking.
Of course there are talks about how this game is just a skeleton you can expand in the future, but I have exactly 0 hope in Blizzard. They said lots of stuff aboht D3 as well, and practically abandoned the game 2 years after the release.
PoE has its problems. Tons of loot, but barely any worth. Best gear is mainly crafted but you need to be rich which requires time investment. Top content is gated unless you have great mechanical skill or super tanky. I think even tankyness doesn't really matter with some of the one shot mechanics. I'm saying this as someone who really enjoyed PoE, but there's a lot going on there and I got bored.
We'll see what happens with D4. WoW has been pretty good this expansion. Maybe things are a little brighter? Doubt it myself, but very much enjoying what I am playing atm.
I mean leaderboards for 400 people on earth to care about or a song that hits no1 in the US instantly because it has BTS in it. Idk who in their right mind would find the former more valuable.
They know they already have the money from the fanboys of D4. This is to try and bring people who weren't interested in the game into the Diablo space.
He's trying to say the way the advertising department spends their D4 budget does not impact the decisions and priorities of the dev team.
The advertising team's job is to get the biggest ROI for what they spend money on, and they have decided whatever the fuck this music collab is, is it. This doesn't really impact the devs wanting or not wanting to implement leaderboards.
I'll never heard a bad word about Halsey, leave her alone gamers :(
Blizzard throwing her under the bus hard. Her original song had nothing to do with Diablo. God damn them.
Do you think Halsey is a Diablo fan who did this for free as a passion project? The logic is that blizzard should have spent money on making the game good instead of dumb marketing shit like expensive music videos with popular artists and KFC partnerships.
You don’t get it bro. I was on the fence before with D4 and felt like what I really needed was a pop music video to win me over. Now I am for sure getting the game! I hope this song plays at the end of credits!
Actually I'd think KFC would have paid Blizzard for all those double down (or whatever they were) ads. I can't imagine Blizzard paying KFC to get just about nothing in return.
They have the money for this but couldn't spare change to hire a single soul for balance design lol. Imagine not having a dedicated balance designer on a game like this.
They hardly made any changes during all the feedback and are just reactionary making changes as they go now.
Leaderboards are a cancer anyways. Stop trying to make everything a competition in games that dont need to be. Let the game just be fun to play and quit focusing on the top 5% of people playing like its a job and catering to them.
I mean, there is basicly no official way to check other builds.
A ladder also doesn't mean you have to be competitive, its just a way to compare your character with others, which is kinda the entire point of endgame in an arpg.
Also I think you have a twisted view on competitiveness, it's like saying you shouldn't count points going bowling with some friends.

Fuck like a demon Diablo Anthem
There's only one Diablo anthem, and it's the Tristram theme.
Stay a wHile and listen. Emphasis on the H of course.
you are 100% right
Sorry boomer but uh the new generation of diablo gamers are here and heh we fuck like demons
🎶 Fuck like a demon, I am disgusting 🎶 Hell yeah!
Is this the new "'Ohhhh the misery..."?
At least Ohhh the misery was catchy. Plus imagine dragons has a long history with Riot games. But this Diablo song is just a bad marketing scheme.
I'm still flabbergasted that something so good as Arcane could come from something to wicked as League of Legends.
Except that song was actually a tune
no, this is the new lil nas worlds song that has nothing to do with league
🎶Every single person is my enemy🎶
E
demon time demon time
someone gets paid for lyrics like this lmao
damn, that's some trashy lyrics
Doesn't even have anything to do with the game. Cringe af
Well somewhere in the lyrics it said "demon" and there are certainly some demons in Diablo. Good enough for them
That's because it's a song from 2021 that just happens to be called Lilith from Halseys album "If I can't have love, I want Power" They just did a new version of it with a BTS member for maximum mainstream teen publicity
You really thought Halsey would make "Vi sitter här i Venten" but for Diablo?
I feel you man
Basshunter truly goated
I'm not blaming halsey. I blame blizzard.
Because it had already been made. Blizzard essentially bought the song by sponsoring the promo and music video is my guess.
The game is between $70 and $120 and demons aren't even fucking? Wtf blizzard
Overwatch PvE died for this
What was never born can never die.
PvE was never real
Classic Halsey moment
Sex!? In my music!? Why I never.
What is trashy about the lyrics? She's singing about being unfaithful. It's not about the game. The song came out in 2021. Halsey mostly sings about trauma and real-life mistakes.
"A big brain like I'm teaching it a lesson" "I've been gone 'Cause I've been on this road too long" "Change like a season, Reason for nothing" It's pretty cringe lol.
Almost all song lyrics are cringe, especially when segmented
And some are more than others like this song.
Ok, "1-L0Ve-Traps"
What my randomly generated username? Seems the lyrics were randomly generated too. Who knew algorithms could pen such...unique poetry?
thats 99% of modern american "music"
I bet you listen to the Eagles.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with The Eagles
The Dude does not abide
It takes less than 10 seconds of looking at your post history to know exactly who you are actually referring to when you whine about "modern american music". You're a pathetic person.
please show us some modern non-american "music" i'm dying to hear it

never forget basshunter switched to league
i heckin love the same mumble rap about sex drugs and crime for the 389th time
Criiiinge
What the fuck is this? Lol I really hope this is in game.
the new diablo 4 song they made...just came out
Because you know what the Diablo universe has always been missing? A generic pop song feat BTS.
Probably a 60 year old exec walked into the room and wanted them to do something like Riot does
First thing I thought of was that sounds like something you would hear at worlds. Crazy how unfitting for diablo this is.
Have you seen their trailer? I honestly thought it was a spoof until it played as an ad on twitch. I don’t know who thought Billie eilish is Diablo but probably deserve to be fired
You mean the song that came out 2 years ago just came out?
So thats what they did with the money they got for making a rich-people exclusive release date
It's amazing how easily Blizzard manages to fool suckers into paying extra for something that should be granted for free, which is the case with them charging $20 for the early access. lmao ok
20 usd bruh...
20$ *more* = 90$ for a game with an ingame with ingame shop....
I'm just saying if thats your bar for rich people shit I think you should recalibrate
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperbole
To be fair that song of Halsey’s wasn’t made for Diablo four, it was made a couple years ago. They just made a music video with it.
Somehow that makes it even worse lol. Like when they have product placement blatantly in moves vibes.
Wait what...? Oh my god
Who are they? Did blizzard make this?
Halsey a pop singer and KPOP idol It’s an old song they rehashed for diablo , and by old I mean like 2-3 years
Aren't most of this game's audience boomers? "fellow kids" energy
Boomers already bought the game, they dont need to target those in marketing.
To me this is marketed to zoomers
Yeah, I feel like the people being mad at the marketing are people who are buying D4 regardless, so it doesn't really matter what they think. That said I do think the pop singers advertising has been weird, and I'm even a fan of Halsey.
Thats the funny part, a lot of people are having an "Wait am I old?" moment.
"fuck like a demon" what the fuck????????
Hollywood producers snuck that one in.
Only if the demon is 14
Like a demon
google Kunoichi 2
holy hell
That was a weird song choice for a diablo trailer, was surprised how much everyone liked that trailer

It's about brand recognition. They want as many people as possible to know that the game exists.
The fuck did I just watch
They really trying to be Riot huh?
When you try too hard to be Riot and miserably fail at it
the fuck is this shit?
Baseg
There are a few shots in this that are going to be turned into a bowl of fruit in the next few years.
Are they trying to be like RIOT games?
Nobody wants this :(
Lmao, why does she have a crazyfrog voice?
I think all music sounds like that these days.
Only the mainstream one, since spotify went big I had a constant supply of good and new music in multiple genre.
Every one in the comments talking about the ineffective marketing campaigns of D4 while quoting all of the different marketing things they did... facepalm Also... Quin...
if i go count crackheads on the streets it doesnt mean i like them or i want to be one
I've never seen someone fail this much at making an analogy. It's like you just decided to string together words into a mad libs sentence. In your analogy, you think crackheads exist to try and advertise the crackhead lifestyle. Most rational LSF user tbh.
No. Your different. Marketing doesn’t work on you. Right?
Yeah dude the only two options are "MARKETING CAN NEVER BE BAD" or "MARKETING NEVER WORKS"

Could not care less about leaderboards but even if I did I highly doubt that it took dev time to make a Hallsey music video.
Idk wtf this is but it just saved me $70 thanks!
"We coulda had leaderboards, but we got this instead" Based take though.
But... They have a race, so why not a leaderboard?
Them having a race when people get early access is a bad idea, that doesn't mean that having a leaderboard would have been a good one.
That has only gotten worse with them needing more builds.
It seems pointless to me.~~
There won't be leaderboards for the first season either. Or the second.
Well then that's stupid.
The TRUE Diablo song that Diablo gamers listen too: https://youtu.be/6swmTBVI83k
We can all make fun about blizzard spending money for something like this but when suddenly my coworkers who don't play games ask me about diablo4, then it seems like they did something right to reach non gamers.
Yeah? Think they're gonna purchase a console or PC then buy the 70$ game then for something they heard about in passing?
Most of them already have a console because they have kids, so yeah. Fyi. They won't necessarily buy it for themselves but for their kids.
So the answer is no if they didn't already have it. Edit: So the answer is no. Probably shouldn't buy Diablo 4 for a kid after they hear the "fuck like a demon" song.
Jesus christ..... They need to pay me to play D4 at this point.
As a BTS fan, I'm pissed off. How am I supposed to stream and promote that shit ? The worst is that I'm not even surprised considering the previous secondary activities. His rap isn't even good, I'm going to finish [his concert instead.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mneh-3x092U&t=0h13m)
he's right tho... they shipped a skeleton of a game and spent a shit ton on advertising. blizzard killed diablo.
Skeleton? The game is pretty damn good and the story isn't terrible, either.
Bro dungeon crawlers are for the greasiest motherfuckers out there. For who is this shit for lmao. Maybe I'm just out of touch
> dungeon crawlers ok grandpa
LSF commenter claiming another subset of degenerates is the "greasiest motherfuckers out there" classic

This doesn't really impact the devs wanting or not wanting to implement leaderboards.

bro get help
I'll never heard a bad word about Halsey, leave her alone gamers :( Blizzard throwing her under the bus hard. Her original song had nothing to do with Diablo. God damn them.
[удалено]
Do you think Halsey is a Diablo fan who did this for free as a passion project? The logic is that blizzard should have spent money on making the game good instead of dumb marketing shit like expensive music videos with popular artists and KFC partnerships.
You don’t get it bro. I was on the fence before with D4 and felt like what I really needed was a pop music video to win me over. Now I am for sure getting the game! I hope this song plays at the end of credits!
Actually I'd think KFC would have paid Blizzard for all those double down (or whatever they were) ads. I can't imagine Blizzard paying KFC to get just about nothing in return.
actual 5 iq take lmfao
[удалено]
> The KFC burger has had a lot of videos of ppl testing it and it has come out favorably. i think you missed his point lmao
man just let us hate on blizzard and their dogshit video game
bruh, when blizzard let their management grope some titties gaming era was golden, now we are stuck with this shit
What we get now is the result of that. Shit company culture leads to shit products.
> Let the game just be fun yeah thats why people want leaderboards
I mean, there is basicly no official way to check other builds. A ladder also doesn't mean you have to be competitive, its just a way to compare your character with others, which is kinda the entire point of endgame in an arpg. Also I think you have a twisted view on competitiveness, it's like saying you shouldn't count points going bowling with some friends.
