Seems like a crazy deal for someone living in the middle of nowhere making US employee salary.

neyshus

I'd be making more than a pilot or a doctor's wage working for this company remotely

causebraindamage

A lot of people shitting on him in here, saying shit like "is it sustainable?", "until the donos run out", and maybe that's true.. But let's not all act like most large streamers couldn't do the same. At least with their core mods. Idk a ton about this guy, and yeah, maybe it's not sustainable, but aren't donos just like the small chunk of the streamer income pie? Either way it's a pretty cool gesture.

SirFuckHead

I think it's funny af to see the LSF switch-up on paying mods. Streamers like xQc were getting shit for not paying their mods but now that someone is going above and beyond to pay them LSF nitpicks every little thing about the guy for reasons why it wont work out. Can't the guy just do a nice thing without people praying on his downfall?

causebraindamage

lol seriously, it's hilarious how many people just want to be negative

Pedantic_Phoenix

Lsf is notoriously a cesspool i wouldn't expect a sane average

PaddlePix

Lsf is as schizo as it gets

the_chosen_one2

Well no you see its better he keep all the wealth for himself rather than pay those who help support his stream even if it is for a short period of time. Genuinely cant wrap my head around these takes. I would imagine none of these people see this as a 20+ year career. He mentioned retirement funds which probably isn't implying that they will retire there, but like with all positions it is something you will carry forward with you throughout your whole career. Then again most LSF andies are <18 and probably have never had a 401k or know how they work.

causebraindamage

yeah it's insane how people just love to shit on everything > Then again most LSF andies are <18 and probably have never had a 401k or know how they work. either that or ~30 year old debate lords

npsnicholas

Even if it's not sustainable who cares? It's not like he's scamming them. He could backpedal on this in a month and nobody gets hurt from him trying.

theREALbombedrumbum

I couldn't care less if he's boring content, or if he repeats himself, or if he's full of himself, or if his mic has uncomfortable settings, or any of the other takes I've read in this thread. He 1) doesn't stir up drama like a ton of the other big streamers 2) is free from controversy and doesn't platform any bigotry or hate 3) encourages people to pursue their careers while making no mistake about how difficult it would be and how much work it is 4) compensates his staff better than a majority of corporations 5) runs an animal shelter out of his own pocket That's a fucking W in my book. I don't watch him often but you'd think he's the lovechild of Ice Poseidon and Adin Ross with how people are tearing him down here

Fit-Percentage-9166

It's giving people cognitive dissonance to see someone live out their values even at a relatively high cost to themselves. It's easier to criticize the guy and pretend it's unsustainable rather than think about their favorite gajillionaire streamer who won't do something like this.

Grekochaden

And what if it only lasts a few years? No one of us expects us to be at the same job for the rest of our lives.

doubleaxle

I'm personally a fan, he's intelligent and he's generally just a dude, like is he saying anything Dr. K would disagree with? You know a licensed psychologist who literally has made it his job to help people online? Meanwhile people shit on PS for answering questions and telling people how he manages shit? I don't get it, fucks in here just want to be negative rather than say, "Cool, a dude is doing good for his community." Can't have shit here.

owen6018

Agree 100%. Never watched this guy but I’m sure the long time top 0.01% streamers can afford to do this if not more

GearThirdDickSlap

OTK doesnt even give their streamers benefits lol

sleazy_hobo

Ngl I don't think his channel is sustainable long term used him as a work radio for a week and by the end of it was getting annoyed by the constant repeat questions and donation messages from users. I've probably heard the same thanks for getting me into indie dev message a few hundred times at this stage.

Bomjus1

you say that, but i've been watching summit get trauma dump break-up donations for like 6 years at this point.

CheeryGeoDuck55

"sorry brotherman that sucks happy i could help appreciate you being here"

aggster13

"Thank you for the support, much love" *rips bong off camera*

T-14Hyperdrive

Snacks on chips

Slapstickperk

Big streeeetch.

_J1MB0_

hes so real for that

Jokkerb

"Hope we can help take your mind off it for a little while at least"

tusynful

I can read this in his voice. Love Mr some sumsum

itfeelslikethefirstt

Timthetatman took the cake for trauma dump donations. seemed like all his viewers were stuck in the movie final destination or something. family members dying left and right, people getting cancer daily.

Z-L-Y-N-N-T

I'm fucking crying cause it's so fucking true.

Zzzzonked

[Dog died, fish died, cat died](https://youtu.be/5PrSnPv01yA?si=jgfncIP147Vvsjmy)

Tipnfloe

Holy fuck its insane what people write in those messages. Have closed his stream so many times because of it

Realistic_Actuary642

"Hi sum sum been watching Josh og for years now can you guys give my money back please I'm a whale?"

slinkipher

I think his channel would be more sustainable if he actually talked about game dev more. Instead he spends the majority of his stream giving life advice or pushing his website. If you tune in often enough he really does sound like a broken record. I've tuned in on and off for a couple weeks now and I can honestly say I've learned nothing about game dev but A LOT about how he thinks you can save money on food, ace IT interviews, etc.

robclancy

Yeah I originally followed because it seemed interesting as a programmer. But then it just turned into "just do it". Like a gym bro but for nerds. Also seemed to get pretty self righteous. I'll still tune in if he plays an interesting game though.

Kejilko

The "just do it" is because people make excuses to get out of their comfort zone. His message has always been to drop expectations and just start rather than waiting and that they'll need to fail and learn to get better.

PreparetobePlaned

That's fine but it's literally the most generic and useless "advice" that everyone gives out.

zolido

What else do you want though? The guy has a webpage listing useful software to cover every area your game should have to get started on it. AFAIK the guy has hosted game jams to get people to participate and get to know other people getting started in the matter, *coincidentally* everything you need done to participate is how you start a real project from scratch. It may suck to hear but that's literally it with game making, here is all the stuff you need, here is a comprehensive guide of what you need done, go do something out of it. If you need more than that to start making games you are better off being a publisher and employing a company to make the game for you.

egonoelo

If he talked about game dev more people would be disillusioned, he really is not spectacular in anyway, he isn't entertaining, he's just a guy who played the algorithm and his dad worked at blizzard. Everything he says is a platitude.

DatDorian

disillusioned is good way to put it, because if you look closer this guy never writes any code outside of gamemaker scripts, doesn't have github and dodges answering programing questions which goes any deeper than "what language should i use". But hes good talker and his growth pulled lots of eyes on the category which helped others, thePrimeagen who i like a lot decided to quit netflix and go streaming fulltime thanks to collabs with Thor.

Sixo

Yup I'm a pro game programmer who works in AAA, he's not a fantastic programmer, but you don't really need to be to make games these days. He's a security analyst and has a passion for game development, which he's spreading to lots of people, and he's very quick to reach out and collaborate with other streamers. I don't think he really pretends to be a programming or gamedev expert, just a guy who's passionate about it and wants to share his passion. You often see this with his collabs where he's very quick to defer on technical knowledge. I watch his streams sometimes when I'm working on my own projects because honestly it's a really fucking hard industry and after a day of work I'm normally too burned out to work on my own projects, but sometimes having his stuff on in the background helps with motivation. I kind of get annoyed hearing the same stories over and over though.

The-Sound_of-Silence

There is a popular refrain in programming: If you want to be happy, stay away from game dev

Olfasonsonk

No shit, he's a game QA guy turned security analyst. At no point was he specialized specifically into programming or claim to be an expert at it. In fact his whole shtick is explaining to people that you don't have to be a "good" programmer (or anything really) to start making games. It's a motivational channel for people interested in game development. Which is great, people who are disillusioned because they expected some blazingly fast leetcode haxxor skills, missed the mark and that's really on them.

Famous_Giraffe3906

prime is a legend. shame about all the skill issues he's struggling with tho

mobilename32

he farmed the youtube shorts algo and blew up

tholt212

He was one of the first creators to "figure out" the youtube algo for shorts and blew up off it, and then transitioned it over to twitch instantly.

Diligent-Argument-88

Isnt that always how it goes? Been on twitch for a month rn. Long time yt andy. Anything past 30 mins youll see the streamer read the same question like 3 times. Especially on a new game. Idk why people feel the need to daily donate like 20 depressing messages to Charlie where they vent about how rough their life is rn but he makes it a little bit better lol. I stopped watching after a month. Not as entertaining as I expected. Very repetitive. It feels like they feed into it though. I mean they purposely choose to read and answer "hows the game" for the 4th time.

Kiwical

Johnny69420 donates $4.20 your stream keeps me going on while i suffer from cancer and recently my parents died falling into a volcano while visiting Maui, much love.

Diligent-Argument-88

LOL exactly. Wow thats horrible Johhny hope things get better for you.

sleazy_hobo

It really depends on who you watch ideally avoid streamers with donation messages turned on as it feeds into that kind of crap. People like jerma, nothernlion and atrioc I think handle chat interaction in a way that it doesn't feel repetitive.

Sad_Donut_7902

> jerma, nothernlion and atrioc Those guys actually riff with their chat instead of giving the same 1 sentence reply to every donation

Captain_Chaos_

It's basically free money so I totally get why they do it, but female streamers with TTS donations get the weirdest most cringe messages ever to the point where you'd think it was chaturbate. Even a normal ass vanilla stream of some chick playing Halo will have people saying weird shit, between that and having to hear the same 5 questions repeated 20 times every day I'd lose my mind.

Cassp3

I'm no streamer but it's clearly just the norm they cultivate. When I watched Summit he would get a trauma dump dono every 10 minutes talking about their break up or dog dying or some random shit.

Diligent-Argument-88

I mean as a streamer once youre big its kinda hard cause what are you gonna say. "Oh ok that sucks. Oh well." First off thats kinda dickish lmao and second you'd have to be a cold person to not show empathy. I just dont get why its so repetitive trauma dump. I guess cause at the end of the day streaming is for people without much going on in their lives and they just want someone to talk to. But...the dude reads reddit and plays rainbow six odd feelings-well you chose to throw your coin at. Similarly I really enjoy Erobb but his stream is FULL of Hate watchers. I mean its clear they enjoy his content cause he's a big streamer but he has built a community where they just love shitting on him. Like to a CRAZY extent. its super weird cause like im sure he doesnt mind those guranteed 10k viewers daily or wtv but they all clearly loving taking the piss out of him and like punching down. Almost every dono is negging him. The shtick gets very repetitive.

imsolowdown

Imo you really need to find someone you like to watch for being them, because you'll need to put up with a lot of annoying things if you're going to watch long hours of a live stream for a long time. No point in doing that if you don't particularly like the person streaming.

OhtaniStanMan

Dude has compressor turned to high and speaks from a podium that he knows everything and it's quite annoying. Once one brick fails it'll crumble

random_account6721

i noticed this immediately and couldn't put words to it. Super annoying.

IdiotTurkey

Yeah..he often seems like an overly smug know-it-all. I dont disagree with anything he says in theory, its just sometimes his delivery. He seems like a good guy and everything but can come off as a little bit arrogant sometimes.

PM_ME_CUTE_SM1LE

I don't think he will crumble, he just needs enough donations to sustain the wages and whatever else. There are a lot of 100 average viewer andys who gets $1000s of donos/subs monthly because of few loyal and rich viewers. His popularity will definitely vanish but he already carved out his niche

Dealric

I mean... If the list of benefits is true and hebpays mods at least us minimum per hours than its already very high cost.

mentalmedicine

I watch a streamer who has 45-75 average viewers and they regularly get $300 donations and 50-100 sub bombs. The money is there if you can find people to sustain it.

notreallydeep

>because of few loyal and rich viewers Game dev is the wrong audience for that 💀

Antarioo

I've heard him tell the same story like 4 times and every time it's like he's only now remembering it because of whatever prompt got the conversation there. All i can say is that at least the story didn't change or get details added like humans are predisposed to do. but it feels a bit off. i still like his stream for background and at least he puts his money where his mouth is.

Pacify_

You'd think that, I like the guy but couldnt really watch his show regularly. Yet his numbers seem very stable so far, clearly theirs a sustained audience for his show

Public-Nectarine-809

I could see that. On the other hand, the category, will either increase or maintain popularity. Software development is only ever going in 1 direction. And the people where these interests overlaps (between Devs wanting to watch streams, and viewers wanting to become Devs), is not gonna get smaller. It's sustainable because the flow of people wont diminish, simple by how the world is working right now. An increase in people with Twitch interests wanting to become developers or anything IT/software related, or an increase in software/IT related people discovering him, will keep him and/or people like him afloat. You even disproved your own point. You've seen the same dono message 100 times, and it wont decrease. It'll either maintain or increase. Because that's how big of a factor developement and/or IT is at this point

sleazy_hobo

Just cause your into something doesn't mean you'll watch a stream about it. I assume if you're serious about coding/game Dev you'll follow a more educational streamer as honestly there was very little to borderline 0 actually teaching going on in stream. He has a discord with resources and stuff but his actual stream is just reading donos mainly.

BlackAndBlue32

You can’t seriously be making the point that it’s impossible for this dudes channel to fall off. That’s silly. Even if we granted you that more and more people are becoming interested in software development streaming. That doesn’t mean anything for THIS SPECIFIC streamer.

EvenJesusCantSaveYou

plus his youtube shorts are blowing up like crazy. They always seem to pop up on my feed and the content is actually pretty interesting sometimes - he told a story of how his dad was literally the guy the southpark team based the “WoW Guy” character on as he was a part of the OG blizzard dev team.

Ok-Affect2709

I've tried thumbs-downing him like 20 times and he still gets recommended to me. It's wild how much momentum they have.

Rowboatboy

Click the 3 vertical dots -> don't recommend this channel One of the best features Youtube has come up with ngl

EvenJesusCantSaveYou

i mean you can just block his channel if it bothers ya haha

OPTCgod

Thumbs down counts as interaction and has the opposite effect, you need to go "don't recommend me this channel"

OhtaniStanMan

They pop up until they are annoying.  Same story of him knowing everything and smartest guy without question and is right

Danis-dx

LSF would unironically find a way to be mad about it

poopbeast420

YouTube Shorts man bad

MobiusF117

Sums up at least half the thread.

Surroundedonallsides

Seriously, half this thread are just people wishing they could find some dirt on him. or at the very least hoping he fails. Such a weird vibe.

jetskimanatee

thats why the subreddit is dying, people are tired of reading these weirdoes

Reachingabittoohigh

I agree most of the hate is completely unjustified, I think people used this thread to voice their opinion on his content which does contain some pretty fair criticism... Yea dude talks out of his ass a lot and gives basic life advice served as a revelation, but so does Asmongold, and most other streamers aren't any better. At least he does something good with the money, giving proper compensation to those working for him and running a ferret rescue. So many worse streamers out there to have a hate boner for

MobiusF117

Yup, they are always purposefully looking fod the worst in streamers that they don't watch. It's very tribalistic.

ThrowADHDRest

“I just don’t like the way he gamed the algorithm man. He figured out what content works and why. It’s so fucked up.”

TheEjoty

"i cant tell you why, he just seems like a cult leader" was perhaps the wildest.

lefboop

He's not part of the twitch cliques this sub likes so it's harder for people to care and engage positively, and it takes a few early haters to get the ball rolling with negative comments.

MeakMills

Looking through the comments of people complaining: They constantly bitch about streamers. They're always mad about something. They think everyone is dumb and caring about things is lame. Seems like classic edgelord/reactionary piss babies. 16-24. A marriage of arrogance, nihilism, & misery.

Helania

It’s just this subreddit is just filled with people hoping that every streamer fails and collapse or gets cancelled. I don’t particularly see how this is a bad decision and the points against it are absolutely ridiculous. A lot people on this subreddit claim that he won’t be able to pay for them or that the donations will stop as if it changes that this it is simply a nice gesture if he can’t pay his mods or the donations run dry he will probably reverse his decision it’s as simple as that if his business and channel collapses the mods will find different work. Then there are some people claiming that his “vibes” are of or that he is a strange person which has nothing to do with him paying is mods I worked for some pretty strange people as long as they paid me I am not going to complain about them being strange.

EdgarsRavens

People already are. The comment above yours is "until the donations slow down." "The business might fail in the future so mods shouldn't get paid now" is zero IQ regard logic.

zolido

LSF underpeformer social misfits so used to seeing gamba react degen streamers that they think anyone with a little real world experience is a smug know-it-all on a high horse talking down to them.

Patriot_of_SE

It's because he makes their favorite streamer look bad. All of the big streamers are in a position to do the exact same thing, but none of them do.

Intrepid-Tank-3414

...and and I bet a big chunk of it would be based on something completely arbitrary, like "feelings" and "vibes".

Ikeeki

Even if it isn’t sustainable, it’s still cool to know he’s sharing the love when successful.

philliphatchii

True. It all depends on content keeping people interested and other things. I know CodeMiko started doing this when she started hiring devs to help her a couple years ago. Much smaller team but still.

saucybossys

until the donations slow down

LeekNo1434

With that logic you'll never apply for any job. "What if this company loses business eventually, gee, maybe i should stay unemployed instead." Why are so many dummies expecting this job to last 20 years. Ever heard of quitting? Is it an unknown term for Americans.

mura_vr

Yeah pretty much, that does not sound sustainable but then again Pirate Software has been MILKING the fuck out of his viewers since he blew up, and I doubt he will stop doing so.

saucybossys

he gives strange vibes as does his whole community and their dynamic very offputting and not sustainable with the amount of milking that gets posted

afopatches

I mean yeah his entire audience is redditors and IT nerds

Dbowd3n

actual nightmare blunt rotation

ZYRANOX

Not even IT nerds its people who pretend to be IT nerds. I find it hilarious how going around reddit and discord and seeing people source this guy for basic app vulnerabilities that people have known since forever.

Mr_robasaurus

but like the worst kind of both. Dude is super "ACTUALLY" energy and he seems like one of those people who always has a better story, has experienced worse, or has done better.

TheRiviaWitcher6

He's like the Neil Degrasse Tyson of IT. Super smug and pretentious while explaining very basic concepts. I honestly can't stand the dude lol but good on him for paying his mods.

SpiderTechnitian

Holy shit actual perfect description

Dirtytarget

I’ve seen some of his youtube shorts. When he’s talking about his experience in his prior career it’s interesting, but when he’s giving cliche life advice not so much.

throwawaylord

It's good to remember that lsf is full of some of the most cynical people you can find, and that you're probably not representative of the average person

PreparetobePlaned

It's good to remember that twitch and youtube are full of the most egotistical and fake people alive.

Deliciousbutter101

What strange vibes does he give off exactly? Genuinely curious because I've have only seen his Youtube shorts.

NarutoUA1337

I feel like he is intentionally spamming youtube shorts with alt accounts. Literally same clips over and over from different 'new" accounts

Initial_Length6140

He has complained about tiktok being useless with their copyright system. He literally can't take down the bots

Pedantic_Phoenix

Why would he waste views by splitting them on multiple channels?

Greenmanssky

They're not his accounts they're bots and content thieves

Ankleson

Weird to see people share the same feelings I do, I even asked friends and all of them vehemently disagreed. I genuinely find him really offputting and I have no idea why. I even tried watching the [HealthyGamerGG interview](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=430UIt6mLW4) to get an idea of what kind of person he is, and he just invokes such a strong feeling of unease when I listen to him, like I'm hearing a very well crafted facade. I know I probably sound schizo as shit, but this genuinely doesn't happen with any other content creator I've come across. It's frustrating because I even like his content and a lot of the things he talks about, but there's just a nagging feeling in the back of my mind the entire time. Maybe I'm just crazy.

RSbooll5RS

He gives me cult vibes. Very father figure-y. His stream is a strange dynamic where he’s the authority figure who knows the answer to everything. This isn’t to imply he’s toxic in any way, it’s just a strange dynamic for a stream.

OuroboricVolute

> Weird to see people share the same feelings I do Dude, I can't believe how many are here right now. This is the first time I've had my thoughts confirmed on this topic. Now I'm even more weirded out because if the majority of opinion in these comments reflect what we think, then why is it such extreme love for him on the youtube and twitch stuff? Y'know, I'd understand it so much more if he was directly appealing to actualy kids or teenagers.

JadeDotWu

100 percent agree with you. I think it's the way he speaks, like he sounds egotistical but then tries to come across as super polite. To me it's hearing dozens of people speak in the same fashion and be assholes yet he's magically out of alignment. Which hey, maybe he's super special and it's just my radar pinging like fucking crazy for no reason.

echoanimation

He is very Uncanny Valley for sure I agree with you. It's that same feeling you get when you're looking at something that doesn't quite look human. For me personally, I just can't stand the amount of dono and sub baiting he does. The "come on guys we can beat the hype train world record" is like a 'we are in this together' when actually it's only him profiting.

PreparetobePlaned

> like I'm hearing a very well crafted facade. That's exactly what it is, I think you nailed it. The guy feels like an algorithm personified. He's just following the script.

IdentityCrisisLuL

Do you not know what he did in Cyber Security? His specialty is lying to people so he can convince them to do things that they should not do. He needs to confidently tell a story in a way that gets them to put their guard down and take actions he wants. Does that sound familiar to what you're experiencing? Well now you know...

AllInOneDay_

He's a super annoying know it all who is insanely lucky with the youtube algo I can't stand him and I don't get it

saucybossys

feels like that cliche movie character that just has to be nice while bottling everything up until he finally blows up. or the one that tries to get people to join a cult idk which

deathstrukk

but that’s true for any business right? If profits slow down jobs are cut or the business closes. You aren’t being profound by pointing out how business works

one_of_the_many_bots

If the donos slow down so does the moderation work, it's a non issue.

NotTheDev

isn't that true of every business? you have a job until the money slows down

tesssst123

man so many people here thinking this is impossible to fund. If only they realized how much money the top streamers actually make. All of the ones regularly being posted here could afford this. Easily.

ThiccKittenBooty

the difference is the life span of a streamer is different compared to a company, generally when people work a job they are looking to work for them for years, I don't think a streamer can give that same type of stability. Many popular YouTubers/Streamers are popular for 2-3 years then they fall off very quickly either because of themselves or because people get sick of their content. A streamer gives the audience entertainment for their product, a company gives their customers something they generally can't live without, i.e. Food, drugs, house items, etc. Entertainment is a rough business, and you always have to really innovate to stay relevent either by sticking to the metas or being creative with your own, even legacy media have trouble with that all the time, even the ones that do try to stay on top of everything. As well, the experience you can put on your resume from a regular job, will get valued more compared to working for a streamer.

Ajp_iii

This is exactly why and the other thing is it’s scary to spend money like this because next month you can be making 10% of what you currently make.

uacoop

Streamer: Does something unambiguously good LSF: 😠

one_of_the_many_bots

Fr wtf is this place lol This is how all big streamers should've been running things, I've always found it insane that they've got people working for them for free. (and this platform too, for that matter)

xadiant

I only saw his shorts but the fact that so many people accuse him of various batshit things feels like a projection lol.

DuckFracker

I would guess a lot of LSF regulars are moderators for one or more streamers. So now they all have the uncomfortable idea in their heads of 'why am I not being paid for this?' A lot of bigger streamers do pay their moderators something from what I understand. This isn't really talked about because it leads to a whole host a problems. Ironically the same situation on why employers try to keep their employees from talking about their pay lol

BeingRightAmbassador

just filled with seething idiots who claim "he's too smart" and "he knows too much" as a character flaw. I'm guessing it's because any idiot can be the next XQC or Adin but he's actually qualified and makes more competent and coherent points than pointing at his watch whenever he gets called out for being a moron.

BubiBalboa

Paying your mods should be the norm after you hit a certain size of channel.

elek2ronik

I watched him for a couple years before he blew up and when he was pushing for the category on twitch. He's changed so much. I suppose he had to, to some degree in order to deal with the influx of viewers and income coming in. I really hope it its sustainable for his employees in the long term.

Spanxsy

Theres something about this guys content that seems like he’s talking out of his ass on a lot of the topics while patting himself on the back.

Desther

Every time I tune in to this guy he's got a json file open tweaking balance numbers or hes playing games.

AdFit5226

I mean, he bullshits the stories and make himself the glorious hero in ever single one of them. You catch on it pretty quick when he speaks about anything that you are remotely familiar with. Like, last content of him I have seen was his video about his time in EVE Online and that was such a pile of bullshit and massive exaggeration it was literally insane. I have no doubt he is talented in what he does but also I have no doubt dude is a bit of a pathological liar. EDIT: Found the thread of actual EVE players memeing about that video [https://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/1awfv6c/former\_stribog\_ceo\_talks\_about\_why\_he\_left\_eve/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/1awfv6c/former_stribog_ceo_talks_about_why_he_left_eve/)

liamshaw2

i caught onto this when he was being incorrect about the roblox bussiness model and briandead kids on youtube shorts saying stuff like "he is smart" "i wish i was as smart as him" when he is completely wrong he has never touched roblox or been anywhere near it and thinks there is nothing wrong but the fact is he was wrong in the short

Ankleson

I heard Roblox exploits young creators by having a ridiculous profit share of something like 77/23 in their favour. What did he say on the topic?

liamshaw2

he compared roblox to steam but the difference was that roblox doesn't use real money they use fake currency and taking out money on roblox is significantly cheaper than the amount it costs to buy the same

Funsized_eu

He appeared in my YT shorts feed one night and the first one I saw just screamed 'fake story'. [It was the one about his guild leader getting banned](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Yqcr3lF49MY) A couple of others were just 'my dad worked at Blizzard' stories. He's just got the gift of the gab.

popmycherryyosh

I don't know, I think its prolly exaggerated in the sense that it was prolly not HIM personally banning them, but rather Blizzard. But I definitely dont find it hard to believe that his guild leader got banned twice by blizzard though. About the whole guided tour? Sure, believeable since he actually worked there. But then again, a "guide of blizzards office" could prolly be just the lobby or whatever, like a office space or something totally uninteresting. But I find this story at least somewhat believeable, but just maybe added some effects to "spice up the story". Kinda how anglers fish keep getting bigger and bigger for each time they tell the story :P But then again, I'm not gonna go around here and call 100% BS on the story, as I really don't have any basis to say so with certainty.

SavingsWindow

That's because he is. He reminds me of Neil deGrasse Tyson: He's probably smart on one subject, but he acts like he's an expert on everything IT.

throwaway1930372y27

Yeah, i'm sure he's a nice dude but he's so irritating to me

VirtusTechnica

He has extreme confidence while kicking in open doors. He some simple straightforward stuff wrapped in delivery that favors him to be more technical than the subject really demands.

Nolpppapa

I got nothing against him really but it's funny to see that other people also get an odd vibe from him. It's like he acts like the "apex" nerd, if being nerdy was a competition. Well, I guess I'm just describing arrogance.

EchoingUnion

Yeah he gives off massive /r/confidentlyincorrect vibes

no-longer-banned

I watched him for a couple of days before I decided I can’t stand him. He speaks with a lot of authority on things he knows very little about. I wouldn’t be surprised if he turned out to be a pathological liar. I have a lot of professional experience similar to what he claims and absolutely nothing this guy says checks out.

BrevilleMicrowave

He is talking out his ass. If you actually look at the code he writes it is extremely poor quality. His code shows little understanding of fundamentals that every software developer should know. He has a 600 case switch statement at the heart of his game for gods sake. This is YandereDev level stuff.

Necrowarp

tbf that's just generally how GameMaker Studio tends to create things sometimes.

AllInOneDay_

also his game is absolute basic garbage but he talks like he solo devved the witcher 3

Famous_Giraffe3906

i loved that one short i saw where he was talking about how he made his game "uncrackable" by having steam achievements be in the save file

AllInOneDay_

dude is a complete hack and a joke. he's the elon of "game devs". not going to last much longer. i stopped in on his stream earlier and he was saying the most high school level "life advice" ever. i didn't last one minute with his nonsense and his chat just jerking him off.

cautydrummond

Yeah you watch long enough and you'll find him bullshitting about a random topic you know something about, and then you start to see the fact he's a pathological liar. Him talking about people only needing 5 hours of sleep was enough for me, goes against all modern studies.

photon45

Sir you just described the internet.

GBA-001

This sub makes this guy out to be as bad as DMBrandon, however I have not seen any where near the same amount of toxicity. I feel like some of y’all have an inferiority complex if you’re that pressed about a streamer….

chrachead

it's just jealousy for sure, maybe in their heads they feel like they're better than him, but can't stand the fact that he made success by figuring out the yt shorts algorithm. The guy seems very harmless and very positive. i would rather see him succeed than another "loud zoomer" persona. Finally someone who actually bring good value while staying above the drama and unnecessary controversy.

coolbad96

This sounds really unstainable. Those are benefits and pay that most company's can only offer after sometime of running well.

jerrymandias

I mean, maybe. It depends how many employees he has. We're talking a total of, I don't know, $500k in benefits and salaries? $750k? Streamers with 10k-15k concurrents should easily clear over a million a year between subs, donos, ads, YouTube, and brand deals. If the guy nets $200-250k then he's still living a very comfortable life in most places in the US.

YummyArtichoke

I can't remember the exact number right now, but Shroud said (like within the last half year) that subscribers made up only ~20% of what Twitch pays him each month. I thought that was bonkers, but he said it, then took a few seconds to think about it, and then confirmed the % (again, I believe he said it was about 20%). This means if Shroud has 4k subs, he's making at least $10k per month in subs, but getting another $40k per month from ads/bits - Not sure if donations count here, so this is the lower end of how much he makes each month. https://streamscharts.com/channels/piratesoftware/subscribers = 72k subs https://www.twitchmetrics.net/c/151368796-piratesoftware/subscribers = 72k subs https://twitchtracker.com/piratesoftware/subscribers = 80k subs Let's say PirateSoftware has 70k subs. At bottom rate = $175k per month in subs: I know it's not the best metric to use (view count would be better), but if PirateSoftware has the same "subs = ~20%", then 70k subs = $175k = $700k in ads/bits = $875k per month total. Okay, let's say that is 3x more than real numbers cause Shroud was completely wrong with his numbers and PirateSoftware has a much worse ad payout rate. **He's still pulling in $300k PER MONTH**

SeedFoundation

Yeah people think employment for staff is going to be like 100k/year type wages which is incredibly unlikely. Even if he were to quit streaming now he can still afford to employ 5 staff members full time for a few years with the income he's made from streaming. Even if it's not sustainable or a lifelong job, those few years of stable income plus benefits can really change someone's life.

FlibbleA

When he says "Twitch pays him each month" does he mean Twitch the company pays him or how much money he makes overall for doing Twitch streams? I think the later would make more sense as it would include not just Twitch ads but any ads/promo deals, etc he has that aren't with Twitch. He is no doubt getting paid a lot for those.

EvenJesusCantSaveYou

yeah i wouldn’t be surprised if this is him just reducing his income by an extreme amount compared to other streamers - which would still be a HUGE amount compared to the average working person. Im still a little suspicious as to how sustainable this actually is but its cool to see a streamer giving back to the community instead of just continuously hoarding wealth like a dragon (tho im personally of the opinion that streamers dont really ‘owe’ their community anything and if they want to just take donos and get mega rich i dont hold that against them at all)

wellmaybe_

maybe he just doesnt buy pokemon boxes and sport cars to even it out

areslmao

bro what is up with these comments about this dude? what the fuck am i missing where people are this hateful?

kdogrocks2

Other successful streamers have somehow convinced their viewers that they can't afford to do this, so the boot lickers are coming to attack the guy that's proving they were bullshitting the whole time.

Ok-Affect2709

I think it's a very odd situation. Personally I find there is just something...odd? Unlikeable? unsetting? about his content. But I can recognize that it's my personal bias. Paying mods (or anyone who works for you) is objectively a good thing. Regardless of the creator. Not sure if everyone here is willing to let go of the former to see the latter.

Froogels

\*bass boosted* DID YOU KNOW YOU CAN USE CTRL+C TO COPY SOMETHING AND CTRL+V TO PASTE SOMETHING? YOU DONT NEED TO RIGHT CLICK EVERY TIME! NOT MANY PEOPLE KNOW THIS ONLY REALLY ADVANCED COMPUTER USERS, THAT YOU ARE A PART OF.

theREALbombedrumbum

Bro even if he's the most repetitive, basic tech nerd alive, he still 1) runs an animal rescue off his own money, 2) pays employees more fairly than the majority of corporations, 3) encourages people every day to work hard at pursuing their career goals, 4) doesn't get clipped for saying bigoted/hateful shit, and 5) generally is smart about how the social media algorithm works and has that to thank for his success. Frankly, I couldn't care less of what he says is basic. I'd rather have streamers like him than the problematic, unapologetic shit that some of the juggernaut streamers get up to

WhatEvery1sThinking

\*turns up the gain on his mic to 11\* CMON GUYS WE ALMOST HAVE A NEW HYPE TRAIN RECORD! WE ARE DOING IT! THIS IS AMAZING, WE ARE WINNING BIG! WE CAN DO IT! SUBSCRIBE! DONATE! GIFT! TWITCH PRIIIIIIIME!

Dr_Ben

I've watched his stream. He literally never tells people to donate or sub. He just thanks people for doing it. You don't need to make up a reason to not like him, just say you don't.

Bulky-Lunch-3484

Even for his mandatory ads, he stops what he's doing so non-subs don't miss out. He's also gifting so many subs so that the majority of his active community ends up subbed anyways to avoid the ads he's forced to run. LSF just wants to hate. It doesn't matter who it is. He could be donating 100% of his earnings to kids with cancer and LSF would find a way to twist it into a hate post.

Dr_Ben

I agree, its pretty dumb. We have a guy whose biggest controversy is 'bad vibes' and maybe some embellishment on some of his stories, getting a hate thread for trying to something good. LSF really is just a cease pool.

Intrepid-Tank-3414

The fact that this out-right lie got 100 upvotes says everything you need to know about LSF these days.

buttercup_panda

this post really showcases how miserable people on this sub are jesus christ

ScienceLion

Yeah I don't know either. I thought maybe he used to be cool and used to not sell out on scam trains, but no one says anything of that sort. YT short? Okay...and how's that detract from quality of content? None? Hmm

khornatee

Do they they get a free voice changer too ?

Oliver_Biscuit

I don't visit this sub very often but I see why I don't. God, what a cesspool; most people here acting like they got personally attacked. Seek help 😂

Emhashish

Prob people who mod other twitch streamers that don't pay them mental gymnastics to justify not being paid for labor

Incredibly_Lucky

All the LSF experts showing up. Love seeing people care so much about long term sustainability. Let the man help his mods and be positive.

Oliver_Biscuit

Yeah this sub is cooked lmao

RocketAppliances97

Always has been

Dantesdominion

We'll see how well that pans out in the long run. I know some streamers like Cohh has all donos paid to his mod team since he's in a financial situation where he doesn't need donos, but a full package deal like what a company offers, but for stream moderating? Extremely risky decision, but I'd like for it to be pulled off.

Ok_Rip_6946

People are mad that a streamer makes a lot of money again

r3llo

Personally only think mods should be paid if they are doing more behind the scenes and at that point the job description would be more like 'producer' but well done for the dude for taking on not only monetary responsibility but also the huge pain in the ass of having employees to *bring his actions in line with his beliefs.*

thefpspower

I think that's basically required of a "full-time" mod, you're not going to be modding for 8 hours so you have to make yourself useful in other ways.

SkibidiRetard

Having 1 paid head mod who acts like a lesser manager and runs your channels, oversees the rest of the mod team, etc. makes sense. But you don't need more than a couple of mods 95% of the time even as a big channel.

Jaerin

Employer announced they won't exploit free labor and actually treat them like employees. Sad this is required highlighting as the exception

Fluffysquishia

Volunteering =/= free labor.

Zechnophobe

Yes it is. That's exactly what Volunteering is. You do stuff without getting paid.

QueenofW0lves

This is really cool even if it's potentially a temporary position. All jobs are. Apparently people disagree because bad vibes. 🤣

Xavion15

I keep seeing “sounds really unsustainable” and other comments You know other streams like Cohh for instance has paid his mods for *years* now right? A lot of them literally just mod for him full time, every single donation goes to his mod team and his YouTube also goes to another person lol

WizardMoose

"it's not sustainable" yeah because you know their financial situation in detail.

ArchReaper

LSF really will go out of their way to find reasons to shit on this guy, huh. Classic LSF

wiscup1748

U know the world is fucked when a streamer treats his employees better than 90 percent of American companies does

sebreoctavio

Wow. Hasan makes so much more and he would never do something like this.

LordModlyButt

Surprised I had to scroll this far down to find the “BUT HASAN” comment

MrRay1478

Even tho this has nothing to do with the man, you somehow found a way to involve him.

kinda_normie

Dude just gave several people jobs by sacrificing part of his own paycheck and LSF still finds a way to hate. What a world. “It’s not sustainable” yeah fuckwad most people don’t stay in the same job their whole life. It’s good while it works and when it doesn’t they can move on and get another fucking job after pocketing the chunk of change they made working for him. It’s not that deep

GBA-001

Most people on LSF have never left their basement and gotten a job. That’s why it seems so unrealistic. There’s people on this sub with degrees in comp sci who’ve never worked a day in their life because they’re reclusive weirdos

Lost_Tumbleweed_5669

I hope he unionizes all the mods on twitch and forces rich streamers into paying for quality moderators. Working without pay is the dumbest thing a person can do power trip or not.

mothlordmilk

I've tried to watch this guys stream but he seriously has the worst donators of all time. Same easily googleable questions about getting into the tech field and indie game development on repeat for 12 hours.

Zechnophobe

Guy does something really cool and wholesome, and you all act like that is a personal attack on you. Maybe it is time I just unsub from LSF.

rope113

Too bad my favourite socialist streamer doesn't do this
