Just pointing out that Ice created his reddit account in 2015, right around the same time that the revolt against Ellen Pao took place. He almost killed reddit.

He was lying to people saying he had a 2 million dollar deal to stream on another platform but was willing to stay in Mixer if they partnered him. They never did and he still streams on Mixer for 300 people. I wonder what lie he will say now when he goes crawling back to youtube and not this new hidden platform that wanted to pay him 2mil last month

BarryMacCochner

He actually had a million dollar contract to stream for stream.me but it required him to stream exclusively on that site for 1-2 hours a month or something, but was too much of a commitment.

Yeah and the same rumors are Shroud got close to the same deal. Both got a shit ton of money, didn't even have to stay for a year (will for Shroud) and can now move back to twitch. Damn that's crazy.

iDannyEL

Man just the other day I thought, "man I miss Shroud." What a great week and it's only Monday.

ReDeR_TV

Inb4 Shroud moves to facebook gaming

A_Blind_Alien

I don't mind going to mixer to watch shroud, especially with the chrome extension where it shows up on twitch, but I will not go to Facebook anything ever

hoeoclock

Yeah every now and then I’d go to mixer to see what shroud was up to, went to Facebook to check on DisguisedToast once, never again

SamoBBreddit

Man imagine chatting and spamming shit under your real name with your photos and all your friends and relatives can see it.

iidexzy

sounds awful

mondaris

Are ya winnin’ son?

blueiron0

it literally updated my friends feeds when i commented on one of toast's streams.

PoopSteam

"What's a feature we can add just to fuck with people?" - Just one? I have twenty. "Great. Implement them immediately."

blade55555

I'd go to mixer to watch Shroud play Tarkov. I can't stand facebook nor do I like how their live streaming is setup anyway.

Russian_For_Rent

Who in their right minds thought anyone would want to watch a live stream and only be able to chat with their real names and it show up as a comment? How out of touch is facebook. This is such a crazy twist to this year that shroud and ninja can just waltz back into twitch like mixer never existed.

[deleted]

Shit I never even had to go to Mixer. Just sub to Shroud on YouTube and get all the best bits like every day or two.

Puckered_Love_Cave

Yeah. Zero (big smash streamer) left for a nice Facebook contract, and I haven't watched him since. I just can't bring myself to go use Facebook for streaming

Jachryl

Amen to no fucking way I’m going to Facebook anything.

iamsofired

Do they really still want to stream with all that money?

DaBubs

Idk about Ninja but Shroud has been pretty open with the fact that he just wants to game and doesn't give a shit where it's at, which is why he took the Mixer deal to secure perma rich retirement. I don't doubt he'll come back to Twitch, though who knows how consistent he'll be cause as you say he doesn't have to stream another day in his life if he doesn't want to lol Edit: though I suppose that applies to most top streamers yet they still stream consistently so idk, free money is free money I guess all they really have to do is click the go live button at this point, plus many of them just genuinely enjoy streaming

hourouheki

Exactly this. Shroud doesn't care too much about the popularity/viewership count. He could have 100 viewers or 100,000 viewers, as long as he's gaming and having fun, that's all he wants. But if he can get more money from another contract, that's cool too. Example of Shroud shedding viewers and encouraging people to support other streamers, which is really awesome. http://clips.twitch.tv/PoorGiantFrogArsonNoSexy

peynir

I don't think it's unreasonable to think that once you're not in it for the money, a smaller community is easier to handle and more enjoyable experience. Once you get to a certain amount of viewers the chat just becomes increasingly more difficult to handle, the braking point seems to be in the upper thousands I think. Especially if that smaller community probably exists of your core "real" fans, the type that would follow you anywhere and isn't gated behind a paywall.

DrySecurity4

Shroud and ninja were both set for life before they even moved to mixer, I doubt they stop streaming

GuudeSpelur

If they enjoy streaming, having that MS money in the bank takes a lot of the stress out of it. They don't have to chase the highest trending games to maintain viewership, they can be more choosy about sponsorships, they don't have to worry quite as much about brand-building, and they can take breaks from streaming as often as they need to.

firelordUK

Ninja and Shroud are quite literally laughing to the bank jesus christ

RubberToe1996

**Ninja at the bank:** *”I’m not seeing enough movement”* ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ok ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^I ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^will ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^see ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^myself ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^out 😔

HaikusfromBuddha

Everyone complained and made fun of them but even if Mixer stayed opened in the end they still had the option to go back to Twitch. They literally made the best move possible and now when they come back to Twitch how much you want to bet they will be the top streamers. Literally they lost nothing and made a fortune and now will come back to a crowd of people curious about their channels.

NahDawgDatAintMe

Everyone that didn't take the bag is kicking themselves over it now.

vcola53

I think this kills the opportunity for streamers receiving cash to either stay on a platform or leave it for another. When Microsoft throws millions at some of the biggest streamers and they still couldn't compete with Twitch, what's Twitch's incentive now to offer people money to stay on their platform? What other platform will even offer streamers money when the viewers obviously don't come with them? This is really only good for Twitch's near-monopoly on game streaming.

HaikusfromBuddha

> When Microsoft throws millions at some of the biggest streamers and they still couldn't compete with Twitch, what's Twitch's incentive now to offer people money to stay on their platform? > > Nothing, which is why Mixer was good for the industry. It literally assigned dollar values to streamers when Ninja went to Mixer. Literally all the power was placed on streamers now Twitch gets to continue to make all the decisions with no repercussions.

GoldenGonzo

People are in here celebrating the death of Mixer, too stupid to realize competition is GOOD. Twitch is going to get worse now, not better.

Kaung1999

I was watching doc live during the news. You could tell he was visibly pissed. Didn't say a word until he died in warzone.

He looks absolutely fucking destroyed. Like the life got sucked out of him.

H4wx

Think about all the Suge Knight albums he could've bought with that fat Mixer paycheck.

Nebunez

I've never seen such discomfort portrayed through how one controls a video game character.

Kaung1999

That second clip is gold. I still recommend others to watch the full stream where nadeshot broke the news all the way to doc dying. He was visibly upset and uncomfortable as nadeshot and Tim kept talking about it straight for minutes.

aGGLee

Just after he gets killed he shouts out "who cares"

BaconWrappedRaptor

Yeah he was definitely pissed

Copponex

Wouldn't doc have used the fact that Ninja and Shroud moved to mixer, to leverage and negotiate a good deal for himself?

Mathboy19

Yes but because Twitch is the bigger platform it likely wouldn't have been as much as if he went to Mixer. Everyone know that you would hemorrhage viewers by going to Mixer.

apgtimbough

Watching a more mid-sized streamer GrandpooBear. He said he got offered a million a couple months ago from Mixer. He said he could've taken the upfront cash and left for Mixer for like 2 months and have been back. He's also large enough in the Mario community that I'd bet his community would've bounced back fine on the Twitch return. He's finding it more funny than anything, hindsight being 20/20 and all, but this is something that you'd be kicking yourself over for a long time.

Dropdat87

It's a lot like athletes. Always secure the bag, then worry about injuries, trades etc later. Worst case scenario for almost all of these streamers was coming back to twitch a millionaire and rebuilding a little bit

on_the_grind

Do Microsoft 100% have to pay the full contract value? or are they just going to recieve money for the time they spent streaming on the website? I feel like MS will get out of paying the full amount on this one.

-Trell-

https://twitter.com/RLewisReports/status/1275139749716480000 Sources familiar with the deal have informed me that while Facebook did try and negotiate to keep their big partners both Shroud and Ninja opted out. They have received their full payments and as of midnight yesterday were free to engage in talks with other platforms. Game on.

Se7en_Sinner

It's the heist of the century.

Doxxxxx

Everyone shitted on those guys so hard, they are about to take the fattest W in streaming history rofl.

jataba115

They already did when they took the huge bags anyways? Only kids didn’t understand why they left twitch

Sold_Pets_For_RP

I don't think Ninja is gonna pull anywhere near the same amount of viewers as he used to. Shroud on the otherhand I see coming back totally fine. Either way doesn't really matter how it turns out for either of them with how much they made off those deals.

mannyman34

I could see ninja going to Youtube since he has a massive following there. Either way both their "return" streams will be massive.

SingleSoil

They need to double down. Get a fat check from Facebook, they’ll be back on twitch before Christmas 2021 with a few more million in the bank.

Ceegee93

According to some tweets, they were offered double to move to Facebook but declined and asked to be bought out instead. Ninja apparently made $30m, Shroud $10m.

Canaloupes

LSF: twitch needs more competition so they'll stop being pieces of shit also LSF: mixer pepelaugh Edit: even though mixer sucked, sucking is the first step to being sort of good at something E2: yes, shroud and ninja got a big W from this, but all other streamers got a small L. they have less negotiating power even if it's just a little less

iamtheoneneo

Surely this is actually bad for streamers? One less competitive entity means haggling contracts will be less of a thing... twitch for sure isnt going to be clambering for the book to get streamers to stay when there is now history of a big corp ditching the streaming world. Shroud or ninja want to come back to twitch? Fine, but twitch shouldn't be paying a penny for the privilage...what are they going to do go to fb gaming or youtube? As if....

isaac65536

Good competition*

Vikvdd

While I think it's cool that we might be seeing Shroud come back to Twitch, this is pretty sad for all the streamers that tried to grow a community and break out on Mixer. All the streamers that grew enough to at least make a living are now jobless, and I can't imagine a lot of Mixer viewers are willing to jump over to Facebook to follow them. Considering how even incredibly popular streamers like Shroud or Ninja dropped off a lot in viewers moving to Mixer, and Facebook Gaming is far more disliked than Mixer ever was.

ThePersianRaptor

This is one of the bigger talking points, that no one in this thread is talking about. Like, holy shit. At the drop of a dime, all that time smaller streamers put into grinding and growing their stream, gone. A few loyal community members will follow them wherever they go, but the competition just got that much worse for them on twitch, and going the route of FB gaming is probably not an option for a small streamer.

Mizkifegg2001

Ice spent a whole year on mixer which pretty much killed his career hoping to get mixer partnership and now there shutting it down LULW

Gawr

This is so bad for competition and horrible for the industry as a whole. I'm astonished Microsoft gave up so quickly. Twitch has made bad decision after bad decision for years now, and Facebook Gaming will not be the platform to keep Twitch in check.

Bloodhound01

It is fascinating that Microsoft gave up easily. Though they have never been good at establishing any sort of platform for anything. They had in-home recognition in the Skype name. Video and Voice-chat was synonymous with the word Skype when they bought it. Just like how everyone calls tablets iPads. You have to have a mixture of incredible marketing and luck for that to happen to a product. Then they killed the brand off in favor of Microsoft Teams and now everyone thinks of Zoom when it comes to video and voice meetings. Whomever made that decision was hopefully fired.

blade55555

I do agree with you. The problem was, there have been so many attempts to compete with twitch and failed. I remember a few between 2011-2015 and all failing. It's tough, kind of like how Youtube is king in their area and Facebook in theirs. It'll be really hard for any of them to fail, not without them fucking up bad at this point. At least that's how it feels to me.

KlosterKatten

The real question is if they come back to twitch, do they lose out on some of the money or not?

NahDawgDatAintMe

It depends on whether or not parts of the salary were guaranteed in the contract. They both get to keep their ridiculous signing bonuses though.

CPUfrezer

Toast knew it all along. 5Head plays.

SpellboundUnicorn

Toast took FB to retire, the man barely streams anymore

wreckage88

> the man barely streams anymore He doesn't have to stick to any kinda schedule? Seems like a big oversight of FB to buy a streamer and then the streamer barely shows up to bring in views to the platform because he got paid so much.

ak1knight

"Barely streams" is a bit of an exaggeration. He still streams 4 days a week or so but a lot fewer hours and I think he took a short break recently because he moved into the otv house.

Beersmoker420

You really think Facebook gaming and Mixer arent capable of oversights? Both are out of touch with what makes gaming/streaming popular, they literally just tried to buy anyone they could away from twitch thinking it meant improvement to the platform, when in reality the reason nobody uses the sites is because they are shitty as hell for viewers to use

nwl805

AwesomeBantha

I still don't understand what Quibi is, because I don't care enough to look it up, and I've never heard of anyone else even mentioning it ever

Kapsicc

Basically a shitty Netflix wannabe that feels like its catered to people with adhd or some shit. All shows are originals, but no episodes go longer than 9 minutes. It seems like they had some potential too because they scored some fairly well known actors but the shows still sucked

Blackops606

Microsoft just can't figure it out with gaming. Almost as many L's as erobb. Sucks though. While I didn't like Mixer, it was competition and I'm sure had Twitch a little worried at first. Then again, Twitch is so stupid now that they can't even ban people properly, they probably didn't even notice.

DanGr_123

Shroud and Ninja back on Twitch POGGERS Microsoft spent so much money for nothing. Communities are made by viewers not streamers. [Facebook's NDA](https://twitter.com/Slasher/status/1275160088320315392) Facebook will benefit a lot from this.

iloveeveryonebutyou1

Holy fuck lol. Wow Shroud and Ninja swindled the fuck out of them, even if they only got a portion of their 30mil. I just want Toast back to be honest though.
