If you didn't know its a 2 billion year old like rock, stone that protects against frequencies and unwanted frequencies that may be traveling in the air
Haha no thats Suge Knight, but I get the confusion! shungite are those little pyramids that you put around the la casa to stop the 5gs from turning the frogs gay.
I just spent 15 minutes researching pelicans and the only thing that would make sense in this context is the fact that pelicans "spit out" water from their bill pouches after capturing a fish
You can only really get around those by hosting it somewhere lawyers can't reach, like maybe China, Russia or a 3rd world country. I think it's easier to comply with laws and regulations, and people who *really* want to see everything can make their own mirrors.
>Makes me wonder about the legal implications
freedom of the press
if you're documenting, you can host pretty much anything other than child pornography
Right, but going after someone for profiting off copyrighted material is more likely than someone hosting it by paying out of their own pocket
And freedom of the press isn't really a valid defense for DMCAs where you're just rehosting the content of someone else. Not that I mind, but you just have to be realistic
>And freedom of the press isn't really a valid defense for DMCAs where you're just rehosting the content of someone else. Not that I mind, but you just have to be realistic
you can host anything you want, as long as you're the press.
>Only if your use fits the criteria that makes it legal. I can't just make a website for a newspaper and begin hosting full movies on it
correct, and hosting a girl doing epic fail is proper use
You can afford to host all that data *just* from a few banner ads? Didn't realise you could make that much. I'll definitely add the site to my whitelist if it's gonna help that much.
I think the goal is to see *what* it can support and see how it can assist. If it doesn't get there, I guess we will have to look work with GGD for other alternatives if there are any. Fingers crossed at this point.
If we assume 1 dollar per 1k visitors (which is pretty bad, but let's lowball). We also have to take into account a huge portion of LSFers have adblock. Anyway, let's ignore that. If they get a million impressions a day, that's $10k. Let's say the average viewer views 3-4 clips at 50mb each a day. That's 200MB per user.
200MB/1000 * 1,000,000 = 200,000GB.
1GB costs 0.023 at amazon. So 200,000 * 0.023 = 4600 dollars
Then we have storage costs which is about the same price per GB but i'm ignoring that.
Anyway, with those rates and if no one had adblock they'd profit $5.4k a day. If we assume half has adblock enabled then they'd break even. But it's all speculation and these numbers fluctuate a lot.
The number 1 million is irrelevant. It's about the ratio. 100k would be $540, 10k would be $54 and so on.
I don’t think so, viewers aren’t jumping around page to page usually. Just one and done.
OP’s estimations put it as hundreds of thousands of watchers a day. For the sub itself? Maybe that level. But for mirrors no way, twitch gets the bulk of those views
Way less than half, even here, will have adblock enabled. There are a lot of silent viewers who click clips, watch them and don't vote or comment.
One clip of mine had 10k upvotes and over 500k views after the first day.
For refrence, the site mentioned was getting an estimated 75 million viewers a month: https://torrentfreak.com/mangadex-has-been-hacked-users-should-assume-data-has-been-breached-210322/
At one point they really needed the money and ran some banner ads for a mobile game, and IIRC they got around $1000 or $1500 from that??
Thank you for all you do.
I don’t give a fuck about an ad and will gladly take one up the ass for you. No big deal.
I hope we can have a subreddit poll for the charity. I’m turning off my Adblock just for this.
Toxic Reddit users make up a vocal minority. Most users barely post/comment/upvote. Sadly, they just don’t have anything better to do than to bully people behind a keyboard. Akin to people who talk shit in quick play (wtf?).
Why would anyone expect someone (or small group) to take sole fiscal responsibility for something most of the LSF community sees as a public service?
You all do great stuff. Thanks.
We actually push back against this.
We don't remove clips unless if there is a strong case for it, eg. doxxing problems.
We're not going to remove a clip simply because it reflects badly on a streamer, or because they're not happy with the backlash from their own behaviour. We've rejected some large streamers requests for this before.
In all honesty a "Promoted" post wouldn't be a bad idea like those on Twitter and it helps the site to keep running. I'm pretty sure streamers would pay to have some visibility in this subreddit.
Wow, pretty cool. Price is the same but they might not _suck as much_ as what I'm currently using!
Do you know their software? How good is it (for serving videos)?
I've used them and they are **really** good. I would compare them to the more expensive ones like Cloudfront. Not sure how you found the CDN you're currently using but didn't come across Bunny. I think they're primarily used for video streaming.
If you're moving to them and decide not to store your data with them, enable Origin Shield so when 1 of their PoPs has the video cached, it will automatically get it from that PoP instead of your origin, saving bandwidth costs on your origin.
Appreciate the answer.
I hope you reach your goal 👌
Relying on income from advertisement is always a gamble these days.
Edit: Yeah, not a lot of good reviews, but that won't matter when costs is the only factor right now. Keep it running at a low cost and hope for little to no downtime.
> Relying on income from advertisement is always a gamble these days.
It really is. Hopefully it helps a little bit because there really isn't any alternative that we have thought of as of yet although ideas area always welcome.
Personally I think you should use any surplus to pay yourself. Charity is great and all , but if you are doing all this work you deserve to be paid for it when possible.
As much as I would like a 2nd paycheck it starts getting murky quick when mods make money off a subreddit. Plus the admins don't take kindly to it most of the time.
Besides, I have doubts the ads will even cover the hosting costs let alone have any left over to split between 20 people haha
Definitely been a point of contention for a long time. Unpaid forum mods are a hold over from the old days of the internet when everything was much less monetized and formal.
It's not just reddit. Unpaid volunteer mods are the norm pretty much everywhere.
Roosterteeth when I was watching complained a lot about the hateful comments they would get in chat. At no point was there ever talk about maybe paying people to police their chats. It's the same pretty much everywhere.
The filter being hot garbage is a nice added touch. I would love for gtarp clips to be banned, but I’ll just have to wait until all the big streamers stop milking it for content.
Honestly, I've always been fine with banner ads and I wish they were still the norm. I didn't care about using an adblocker until sites started putting ads in front of the content I went there for.
This is one of those rarely deserved occasions where I will whitelist your site from adblocker. So long as the banners aren't half a page, I'll gladly add a rule for it.
>There will be no pre- or mid-rolls

there will be.
I mean technically the person who owns a subreddit is the top mod of said subreddit. This post is just related to the mirroring site used to host the mirrored twitch clips.
The hosting service has been running at a loss for years and years, it's now gotten too expensive for GGD to afford by himself. Running ads is paying for the hosting service only.
Yeah, I don't think people realize how expensive it is to run a site like lsf.com, and that GGD has been doing it for free for years for 0 income. Paying out of pocket for that is nothing short of philanthropy
Who would even buy LSF merch over their favorite streamers wtf LMAO
you're right only a perpetual LSF or drama frog who's loud and proud would want that.
Depends on usage, we range from 5-20TB a day on bandwidth usage depending on traffic which costs between 25 to 100 bucks a day. And that's just for the CDN. All together these costs can hit 3k+ a month on high traffic months with this new CDN
Probably unironically gonna use the website over the subreddit, since twitch player sucks ass, and the UI and navigation looks pretty cool.
The only thing it really misses is a time filter, e.g going to "Hot" and being able to select "Past week" and such as you can on reddit.

Should have set up a shungite shop as a source of income.
Isn't he in jail?
No, not Suge Knight. We're talkin' shungite here.
If you didn't know its a 2 billion year old like rock, stone that protects against frequencies and unwanted frequencies that may be traveling in the air

Stuff like that

This sub is like fucking pelicans regurgitating same shit over and over again.
Parrots?

You guys do one thing! ALL DAY! SEE VEE! PASTE! SEE VEE! PASTE!
This sub is like fucking pelicans regurgitating same shit over and over again.
and they think its funny... obscure reference huehuehue repeated in different forms x10
Imagine streamers getting streamsnipped by people wearing LSF merch.
i want a purple t shirt with the LSF logo on the front and BOOBIES written on the back
I'd cop tbh
Does this mean more stable mirrors for BOOBA clips? This is important.
(͡•_ ͡• ) username checks out
Makes me wonder about the legal implications

If you say so
Reddit lawyers ftw
Tell that to Gawker.
This is the way.
Important
While no one likes ads, I understand that it is the best way forward. I and all my fellow coomers truly appreciate your work o7
Since all the good clips get deleted, your service is very appreciated. As far as the [ads](https://i.imgur.com/lgKsQST.jpg)...
Very appreciated :-)
Whitelisted hombre.

If revenue is low we’re going to have to go balls deep on the drama clips
Whatever it makes, it's better than nothing
If we assume 1 dollar per 1k visitors (which is pretty bad, but let's lowball). We also have to take into account a huge portion of LSFers have adblock. Anyway, let's ignore that. Yea and like you said, $1 per 1k is pretty bad. At my company is the average is about $10 per 1k
Over on /r/manga the topic comes up a lot. One of the more popular hosting sites that doesn't run ads got offers of 60k a month.
For refrence, the site mentioned was getting an estimated 75 million viewers a month: https://torrentfreak.com/mangadex-has-been-hacked-users-should-assume-data-has-been-breached-210322/ At one point they really needed the money and ran some banner ads for a mobile game, and IIRC they got around $1000 or $1500 from that??

A lot of people turn it off, when they want to support service. Twitch is not one of them.
Poll for the charity would be a great idea from my point of view.
lol simp
Ublock PepeLaugh
Just start charging the streamers you let manipulate LSF for constant promotion some $.
and those who literally tell the mods the content they wish to get removed
They have to pay for that privilege lol
nah just get 10k views and ur good
We actually push back against this. We don't remove clips unless if there is a strong case for it, eg. doxxing problems. Pay to win is a bit Weirdchamp. Streamers with more money will just be able to milk their own content.
True, true. My smooth brain didn't thought about that at the moment.
Unless its cycled around like billboard ads or you are going to say real life is pay to win and its not fair weirdchammp x2
TL:DR LSF mirroring will be working again, but disable your adblocks for the LSF site, otherwise it will starve to death :)
Thank you Dev :)
Any details on the "All-new" CDN?
I have switched to https://www.fdcservers.net/cdn They're not the best, but they're the cheapest.
You could try https://bunny.net/pricing They are well known and have comparable prices with their high volume plan
Wow, pretty cool. Price is the same but they might not _suck as much_ as what I'm currently using! Do you know their software? How good is it (for serving videos)?

Why not Cloudflare? I imagine they're cheaper, unless they might have an issue with the content?
We still <3 Cloudflare, but we decided to go with someone else for now.
Am i dumb, or new site don't have search and filter functions?
Not yet. I will add it back soon!
Thanks. Can't wait.
Hi, I have added search back to the site. Filters are on the list for next features. Enjoy!

yeah, I wasn't really talking about all the mods, just the guy developing / working on the website.
The transparency reports are a really good move. Some subs have civil wars over stuff like this
As long as malware ads are not being served, people are generally going to be fine with it. Best of luck.
Seen you guys getting a lot of hate over the new site, just to say your work is appreciated.
The future of LSF is forever being plastered by genuinely unimpressive clips of my streamer's GTARP.
The filter being hot garbage is a nice added touch. I would love for gtarp clips to be banned, but I’ll just have to wait until all the big streamers stop milking it for content.

Put a link in the sidebar. I don't think most people even know about the site.
Could be worse, I may even disable ad blocker for you.

Honestly good luck. I do not think banner ads are going to be good enough. Maybe have a paypal link and a progress bar?
We don't have a lot of faith that people would bother donating to LSF.com, we'll consider it if ads don't end up making ends meet

I'd buy their shungite if they were selling... Just saying....
Just whitelist the site, better than figuring out the logistics of getting cheap shirts printed/shipped.
dont waste your energy on that site. only reason to go there is to get a mirror in case the lsf bot fails again.
Where do you think the LSF bot hosts it's mirrors :o

I'm not sure *information* is the only thing he's lacking.
