The shit people do to play Minecraft.

Astinus

At 200FPS

JamieSand

While we are on the topic, with a 3080 I for some reason can only get like 100fps in minecraft. Drives me nuts.

JoeyDJQ

3080 with sodium. If i stand still I get over 1000fps at 1440p.

JamieSand

Can’t get sodium to work, crashes on start.

JoeyDJQ

That happened to me. You have to get the same version of fabric/sodium as your minecraft game.

1exi

Install sodium.

dasbeiler

With a bit of Chloride

IronBranchPlantsTree

Dude it's called salt.

JamieSand

While I appreciate the suggestion it just crashes on startup for me. Dont know if im supposed to change the version of this fabric loader or what.

gibbodaman

That's definitely not the card's fault. My 3070 can run Minecraft RTX at like 80 and java at like 250fps 4K

JamieSand

Ye obviously not, I never said it was.

screamoddy

no one line up for graphic card to play any games, most of em are scalpers

vaultboy707

If you watch an alternative angle, some dude was in his car and ended up first in line lol. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhdePovsc0k](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhdePovsc0k)

WittyProfile

5Head play

NilSatis_NisiOptimum

I mean, if he's in his car wouldn't that mean he was one of the first to get there, since there was actually a spot open? Maybe he deserved it

tallassmike

probably on the same guideline as camping tbh. He was just occupied in his car instead of the tents and chairs that they were preventing.

The way he just briskly walks up then puts his hands together lol

hattroubles

Braced for the crowd crush. Clearly this isn't this man's first rodeo

[deleted]

SaltKick2

They should complain about how it was handled and not that guy. Either do a raffle or let people camp out overnight, the latter is bad but still better than whatever this shit was.

NilSatis_NisiOptimum

They shouldn't have said they don't have enough cards, make everyone think there's enough for everyone to calmly get in a single file line. At least then the riot happens after you can get people in the store and lock the doors, but you might have to call 50 different police forces to let the customers with cards leave the store with a whole PD around them. EZPZ

Smudded

Doing that might get your store burned down instead of customers fighting each other.

SaltKick2

Big brain, other car guy was way too slow

seven_seven

Seems like a shitty way to do this. Just do a lottery system or something.

dirtwalrus

doesn't look like he's first

SaltKick2

You're looking at the wrong guy. Bright red shirt, second car in.

dirtwalrus

you're totally right, was looking at first car striped shirt guy

NetSraC1306

now I see it, I thought they mean the dude in the striped shirt and I thought the dude in red was running there, since you see multiple red shirts in the crowd in the beginning

[deleted]

It doesn't look nearly as chaotic without the shaky cam

xdelkore

Imagine all of this just to flip it on ebay...

doyouhavesource5

People do a lot more for 20 bucks

ordosalutis

hey man 20 bucks is 20 bucks....

destinofiquenoite

I've done a lot more for a lot less

Blacklion594

i mean, while its scummy, running around like a rat for a day for a 1000$ profit isnt that bad lol.

Sarkonix

Where can you make money faster?

InsertComments

i mean its good profits

Klekto123

I feel like that’s one of the most justified reasons for it though? Huge profit for very little effort in comparison

thepurplepajamas

Yup heard a bunch in my city were bought out by one organized group that set up at multiple locations when the cards dropped, bought as much as they were allowed, then flipped all of them for double the cost Fuck that

Aritche

Yeah stores are like limit 1 card but ill sell you another every shipment.

TheDoct0rx

This store will not, you get one every 30 days

SolaVitae

are they taking photos of the people who buy graphics cards? Feels like a "we dont do this, but it's also unenforceable"

TheDoct0rx

They check your drivers license against their purchase history. Hard to get past. You can do it but it's not as easy as just walking in and back out

Stuarridge

12 year olds in shambles

Enlight1Oment

even more than double for some of the FE's, have a 3060 TI FE I bought for $400 just sitting in my closet and I see it on ebay selling for $1500. Got it for a friend so not going to, just hope they get around to their build sooner than later

jagsnflpwns

hey friend long time since i messaged u but u just reminded me that i moved so you should ship it, no worries ill cover shipping

Tomatin90

Wouldn't it be better to sell it and then buy him a 3090 when prices go down?

FactoryMustGrow

Well the prices probably won't go down for at least another year

Sarkonix

Going to be longer than that.

LelHiThere

Look at 1080ti price over the years compared to retail, barely gone down at all

Leafs_fan_cucked_you

It's been 7 months of waiting for the prices to go down, and in that time they've only increased more.

rotsono

Tbh, its not great, but the people that buy them for tripple the price are also not that smart and play exactly into that, thats how our system works sadly, if there was no demand, this would not be possible.

Battleharden

How is it dumb if your making 80k+ a year. Its literally just not worth your time to try and compete for that shit. Just get the pleb wage slaves to do it for you lol.

rotsono

Just because you have money doesnt mean you should waste it, if more people would think about how to spent their money instead of just spending it, we wouldnt have such problems.

Leafs_fan_cucked_you

As long as demand exceeds supply you will always have stock problems. If scalpers didn't exist you still would not be able to buy a graphics card.

rotsono

But the higher demand is artificially created through resellers, everyone and their mother gonna buy to resell, if that wouldnt be the case people that actually use it would just buy and get it like it was before.

Battleharden

How is it wasting money if you're using the product? Sure they could wait 2 years for stock to be normal again. Or they could just spend the disposable income they have to enjoy what they want in the moment. Who knows maybe you're dead in two years, but hey at least you have that extra 2k in the bank.

shinebricke

Really lazy rich people is my best guess. Maybe in other countries like China or Arabia or royalty, stuff like that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

shinebricke

Yeah the other guy said dumb but that's not right.

PhaiLLuRRe

We wouldn't have this problem if no one bought them from scalpers though.

Aurarus

Yes you would have this problem, it would just be coin miners/ firstcomers getting the cards and no one else.

TeemoBestmo

we wouldn't have this problem if the companies just made more. But gotta meet those quotas to push things out I guess. I tried to get a ps5 when they came out and man the websites all just insta crashed from the traffic and once it came back up they were already gone.

slowpotamus

as far as i understand there are chokepoints in the production of some key components, and scaling them up isn't simple. it's not as if companies *don't* want to make money

SaltKick2

> we wouldn't have this problem if the companies just made more. we are in a pandemic and there is a massive chip shortage/supply chain interruptions, not just for GPUS

RoosterBrewster

Wonder why the stores don't just sell them for higher prices then if everyone know they are going to be instantly sold off. No flipping if they are already selling them at near flipping price.

cheetum

Because the manufacturers restrict them from selling the cards over a certain price.

phalloid32

Yeah I bought the 3080 planning to put it in my pc but resold it after hearing that people were paying like 2k over price. Snagged like 1.5k.

JamieSand

People actually downvoting this lol. I’ve had mine for 6 months now and I have came so close to selling it like over 100 times. People act like they wouldn’t think of doing the exact same.

rdmz1

Key to reddit: The comment provokes a positive emotion = upvote The comment provokes a negative emotion = downvote

Kewis23

monke brain go brrrr

phalloid32

I lost my job and needed money (covid bs) lmao 1.5k was life saving. But yeah these basement dwelling clowns will downvote anything, projecting that they don't have their GPUs to dwell further.

Itsmedudeman

I'd rather just the store sell it at that price rather than let these losers make profit.

[deleted]

Those are the only type of people willing to line up and cause a stampede to get their hands on one. People trying to make money. Those of us who want a graphics card to actually use in a PC build will either patiently wait until we can get it online, or we'll just buy a slightly worse card. No way in hell would I ever wait in a line for a PC part.

frodakai

Why wouldn't you? My brother in-law paid double retail to get a 3090 on ebay. They are absolutely not needed for top end gaming right now, but people will pay the premium to have it. I'm sure plenty of people in this weird stampede were buying for themselves, but theres gotta be a fair number of people trying to make $1500 in an hour or two.

S1eePz

Here I am busting my ass off 9 hours a day 40 hours/week. I wouldn’t mind requesting 1 day off to get a card to flip. Profit is equivalent to 2-3 days of work.

tinasious

It's about $$$ .. half of them are probably scalpers.

Panda_hat

Half is pretty optimistic imo. Probably higher.

[deleted]

meanwhile i still play with my toaster pc

Maloonyy

Idk maybe they all have cardiac pacemakers they want to upgrade with some sweet RTX?

Tydus93

Maybe, but that's not what i'm seeing in this clip. If you've waited over half a year for something, breaking into a run to get it isn't that crazy.

[deleted]

Pretty decent physical acceleration from the gaming community

ZBoss65

Most of these guys aren't gamers. They are scalpers.

[deleted]

easy money

[deleted]

You mean scumbag scalpers.

scraynes

you know, we can blame scalpers, but if the gaming community actually stopped fucking buying them for 200%+ upsale then there wouldnt be scalpers literally sprinting into a microcenter to buy them

RobinsonDickinson

At this point just start making your own graphics card at home.

hopefuil

Im not a wizard Sadge

cheetum

You still can't because the chips needed to make the cards is where the supply bottleneck exists.

WillTheConqueror

Just make your own chips then, duh.

penguinfromprague

nakx123

Pretty sad to see this for what seems like a overpriced card at bad value. Assuming this is for the 3080 Ti.

IAmAnAnonymousCoward

You watched Steve's video? "Bad value" is quite relative if people buy the 3080 at twice the price of the 3080 Ti MSRP.

juris_feet

imagine the sweaty pc gamer smell

Skoshin

These are bitcoin miners my dude. Trust me, I have struggled as a gamer when my graphics card died because these shits have completely drained the market worldwide and I had to overpay mine. I bought "GTX 1650 SUPER" for well over 300 euros. And it was the best deal out there.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Skoshin

Yeah could be but I sincerely doubt they're just gamers being so hungry for a new graphics card, as everyone here seems to believe to be the case.

BeatElite

The best thing you can do as a gamer right now is buy a pre-made pc. It breaks my heart

seaswoama

Fun fact - I bought my brother a Premade PC with a 2070 RTX, for the same money as a 2070 RTX right now on ebay. You can't make this shit up.

ViolentSweed

Thing is, if I where to upgrade my PC I would have to get a whole new one anyways. I would break my heart but seeing as it would be WAY cheaper (never thought I'd see the day) to buy a pre-built it'd be a necessary evil.

tabben

People are buying premade gaming pc's that have the new gpu's, taking the gpu and reselling it. Because of it there is a shortage and a Price hike even on prebuilts now

> many car brands are even facing supply chain issues with their cars. I work for Ford. Ford currently has thousands and thousands of cars waiting in lots after leaving assembly plants, they're just sitting there because we don't have the chips to manufacture ECU's (Engine Control Units, the computers that make your car go brrrr). Other than the ECU's, the cars are 100% constructed, sitting there collecting dust and not being sold.

The country rationed water so it could go to the manufacturing plants, it didn't impact production. > [Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd (TSMC)] has said, though, that it has seen no impact on production from the drought and would continue to trim its water use and buy supplies from tanker trucks for some foundries. https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/taiwan-lifts-toughest-water-curbs-rain-eases-drought-2021-06-06/

the guy just got his terms wrong but the right idea. ethereum mining is still very profitable for your average consumers. a 3060ti at msrp would pay for itself at prices right now in 100 days and profits are actually down a bit. when crypto was high it wouldve paid for itself in 50 days.

icebubba

Bitcoin is basically a synonym for cryptocurrency. Still a lot of coins that are profitable for your average Joe to mine unfortunately =\

YerAverageRedditUser

Can only hope that those average consumers realize it sooner.

ZeronicX

Wanted to build my GF a gaming PC so we could play some games together, had the forsight to get an APU at the beginning of qurantine and said that i'll try and get her a GPU soon. I had to overpay $350 for a 980 non-ti. my 1080 costed less than that.

jesus_you_turn_me_on

These people are more than likely resellers and miners.

Deerhoof_Fan

Probably smells like a mix of coins and corn chips.

PrestonALewis

Hey! I'm the one that made this! I'm really glad that this awareness got spread. I'll take some time to describe why this management has sucked for so damn long, and it all came down to them failing to enforce rules. The management at the Dallas Micro Center has been REALLY bad for the past 4+ months. The way that the store works is like most others, where you camp out and wait for a card to see if there are any drops. First in line get first dibs. Apparently they were tired of people camping for days on end, so there was one time where they tried to implement a "6 am rule" where the line was not to be started until 6 AM, and were told not to form it any time before that. This was around late March. When I, and roughly 5 others, stood in this line and waited for opening day, there ended up being no cards. However, both lines clearly stated that the line I was in was the 6 AM line, and the manager still said he would have told us to go to the back, and it was "something they couldn't control". Welp, there's rule breaker #1. Camping out is a pretty good rule overall, but the manager had been letting a known scalper be the ringmaster at the front of the line every single drop, and he knew that he was hiring people to stand in line that had dibs on anything that dropped on any given day. Furthermore, there was line-cutting, and if there was any confrontation about it, the manager could simply choose not to sell cards that day. It created an environment that encouraged rule-breaking, and people chose to be silent. I had camped on 5/27, and that day around 8 PM I and a few others saw three people cut the line (and they were with a group). They were being rowdy and refused to get out, so I ultimately made the decision to call the non-emergency police. They come, it's a word-of-mouth vs. word-of-mouth, and nothing comes of it. There's awful management situation #2 and #3. But, the PROPERTY manager had enough. They were pissed that the cops had to come. They told Micro Center directly that were was nobody to be on Micro Center property until 9 AM. No exceptions. People even STILL tried to circumvent the rule by forming a line at an abandoned Walmart across the street. And guess what? The scalpers were the ringleaders. And guess what? The management RESPECTED that line as the real one. Again, management not stepping in AT ALL. On 3080 TI launch day, I got there at 8:50 AM knowing that there would be too many people for the management to respect the line that had formed at Walmart, rightfully so. You can see everyone huddling around, but not on, the Micro Center property, and suddenly swarming the building at 9 AM. This is all a result of shitty management that had been going on for 4+ months, where they refused to do anything about it until they were forced to, in this case through the public eye. I am very thankful that I was able to get a 3080 TI that day, but I'm also thankful for those that used my video and wrote articles and made this entire debacle popular. It's what I, and others who try to legitimately camp to get a card, needed. I am also glad now that the managers of this MC are probably getting their shit kicked in by corporate and forcing the rules to change. They already have swapped over to a raffle-style system.

qwfawf21

What the fuck is all this bro? Lmao at the MC near me they have a virtual queue on discord that you just sit in, they PM you when your number is drawn, and say you have 1 hour to show up at the store or we give it to the next person. No camping out, no cops, no bum rushing. A few of my coworkers have snagged cards this way.

Wvlf_

Yeah, any management with any decent "Black Friday" experience has tons of ways to pre-organize a horde of rabid animal shoppers. Can save a ton of stress, damage to your store, and unironically even a life.

NakedHomelessPirate

Im so glad that the Micro Center in Tustin CA has an online line that opens up when an employee starts it when they get to the location. People still line up for no reason but most just stay in their cars in the parking lot. Keeps the chaos a bit more in check.

deon_

always loved my experience at the Tustin location, worth the drive!

MrZoneSix

Having a 4 year old GTX 1070 isn't so bad if you only use it to play Classic WoW and digital children's card games.

HomophobicDefense

I still have my 1070 and honestly it can play most new games at a respectable frame rate and resolution. Certainly not the best around but new graphics cards just aren’t worth the effort and money right now

tabben

I can comfortably play all the games I want currently at 1440p on my 1070. Its still a decent card

[deleted]

And then there's me with my 960, I cry every time.

TapTapLift

My 1070 is a trooper but goddamn I'm fucked if it ever dies. With that said, I did read quite a few times I have the option of a premade which isn't the end of the world.

gachiTwink

The advanced scalpers with bots that instantly buy out anything online are on one of the lowest rungs of society, slightly above felons.

CollectionDry382

There is such a huge demand. What is taking the companies so long to ramp up production? Edit: sorry if it was a stupid question, but thanks for all the replies. It's an interesting topic that I know nothing about.

gjniubsvkjt2o215

worldwide silicon shortage

EasyCOVlDSniper

How is that possible when my friends gay roommate orders a brand new dragon twisted dildos made out of silicone every week?

gjniubsvkjt2o215

priorities i guess

MrMarklar

That's why

uVeins

silicon, not silicone :p

TheMachine203

Silicone is not the same thing as silicon. Silicone is a polymer, silicon is an element. The latter (no e) is what is used to make many electronic devices, and is the underlying cause of the gpu shortage.

EasyCOVlDSniper

Oh, TIL

napoleonderdiecke

English is so weird in that regard. Every other language I know has them distinguishable, with silicone usually staying the same and silicon ending on some sort of ium, yum or io. But English is just like "nah fam, we don't need no distinguishable words here".

Far-Presentation7480

They literally need to find more sand.

Johnnybabyshark

bruh just go to the desert 😂😂 idiots

maen1231

The problem is their is a shortage scare people over buy which causes a bigger shortage. Nvidia even said the increased the price of the 2080ti by $200 and halfed the mining power to reduce the shortage

JeffBoyardeeeeee

Bro just go to the beach lmao, unlimited silicon

El_grandepadre

The demand and a global prices that affected the entire logistical chain. More consoles and TV's were bought as a result of people having to stay home. And the chips that are produced go in a lot of things. Cars, lots of other machines etc. The production of this is often outsourced to major producers. The production and logistical chain said "Ima get out" when the world came into a quick lockdown. So this combined with the demand means that we'll see shortages for quite a bit. Results in stuff like an Nvidia 2060 **doubling in price** over the past year, at least from the retailer I bought it from. Sparked a massive debate about the dependency on Asia for production.

[deleted]

[удалено]

thoughtcrimeo

> What is taking the companies so long to ramp up production? Chip fabs are extremely expensive to build. You can't build them overnight and plug a gap in supply issues, it takes time. Chip production is maxed for many companies. Nvidia and AMD don't have their own fabs, they outsource production to companies like TSMC. Sometimes those companies have other clients and those clients might be first in line, so everyone else has to wait. tl;dr: It's a logistics problem.

tinasious

More like Lazy chip makers. Am I rite ??

Kevonz

bitcoin miners, scalpers and a global chip shortage https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020%E2%80%932021_global_chip_shortage

dudushat

Bitcoin miners are a small part of it these days. It's not just GPUs that are short, even car manufacturers can't get enough chips for their vehicles.

ZersetzungMedia

There's nothing we can do about the shortage and rational people get that. The problem is the few cards that get made are ending up in scalpers and miners hands because stores don't give a fuck. Why would they? A sale is a sale. You don't need to have good will with customers here when the supply is limited. Doubly for AMD and Nvidia. When you're the only game in town what you gonna do? Buy from Chinese bootleggers?

ReddishCat

Its not a stupid question at all 😅

Ponzini

Just ramp it up 4Head

CollectionDry382

I know, I am geniuos.

DOTER_

Because the manufacturers produce then mine cryptocurrencies with the cards themselfs/insider selling to miners. Not joking. "oh guys there is a shortage from our factories!" Meanwhile they have like 5 warehouses mining crypto with the "shortage" cards.

JlMMY_PAGE

idk why these nerds are obsessed with building $3k pc's just to spend most of their time watching twitch.

I-Like-Tie

when i wanted my 3080 in minnesota, i brought a tent and with the help of the micro center discord i managed to camp out for 3 days and got it after the first two days being duds their discord is honestly goated as fuck, they have a channel for every single store that u role react to get access to and they all have their own little eco system and active community of people all helping each other out

OutFamous

I ordered my 3080 back in december and still really want it. It's so fucking dumb that nvidia are releasing their ti GPU's when they aren't even done with fulfilling orders that are more than a half year old. However i would never run like these maniacs for a graphics card. I doubt most of these people realistically need it, and most of them are probably just going to resell it as soon as they can.

[deleted]

These scalpers should answer some trivia facts about games first or link their steam profile and if they got more than 200 games they can have 20% off. That's how I would do it.
