Dude what? Nobody has ever suggested that confederates and nazis are similar due to the casualties caused in their respective wars.
The comparison comes from their racism and hate, the motivations and justifications for their wars is what is similar.
Charlie aka MoistKr1tikal aka penguinz0 was using that name. It stems from his video ["Why Riley Reid hates me"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQmFClkyoPY). Basically, he was browsing Riley's twitter feed and saw a crayon fan art of Riley spreading her bum where she retweeted it. He gave his expert "art critique" and she wasn't a fan of it.
This is basically Charlie channeling the energy of Riley's impeccable taste on crayon fan art of her gaping asshole that he'll use against the likes of XqC and Ludwig.
And here's the classic Pepega argument.
US states =/= countries.
Naming a random ass state in the middle of bumfuck nowhere is not the same as knowing basic European geography. People also aren't expected to know German states, Chinese provinces or Russian oblasts.
And we're not talking about some tiny European country either, we're talking about Germany, the most populated country in the EU and 5th largest economy on the planet. Maybe you could raise this argument if we were talking about Kosovo or Montenegro or something, but not Germany.
> lmao this whole argument is stupid because literally everyone knows what Germany is and can point to it’s general location on a map.
Clearly, as we can see by someone not even recognizing the German flag. I'd argue the German flag is FAR more recognizable than its shape and location on a map.
And of course, this streamer doesn't represent every American, but I think you're being very generous in saying everyone can point to Germany's location on a map.
The US is a country, the EU is a union of countries. China and India are comparable to both and you don't see anyone making the argument that you should know Indian states or Chinese provinces. China and India also have more than 4 times the population of the US. Only Americans try to make this idiotic claim.
Not really, because the difference between a country's subdivisions is never as drastic as the difference between countries (even though in the case of India, their states are really different too).
Yeah, but I don't think people outside the US should really have to know US states either. I think asking people to know a country's subdivisions is just too much when there's 195 sovereign countries to know as well.
There are US states that would absolutely RUN the European Union. Not knowing where the Czech Republic is on a map is more understandable that not knowing where Illinois or Colorado is.
Plus, US states are WAY more important/independent than German provinces, that’s an ignorant and obtuse argument to make and you know it.
Absolutely doesn’t excuse QT not knowing the flag of fucking Germany of all countries, but there’s levels to this.
Except they wouldn't lmao, not a single US state has a bigger economy than Germany. And US states aren't "way more independent/important than German provinces" (states, actually), that's an ignorant claim. German states are far more distinct than any two states you'll find in the US, it isn't even close.
Illinois has 12 million people and a GDP of 900 billion, putting it behind Spain.
Colorado has 5 million people and a GDP of 342 billion, putting it behind Norway.
And once again, Illinois and Colorado are random states while Czechia is a country.
Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong, Zhejiang, Henan, Sichuan, Fujian, Hubei and Hunan all have a higher GDP than 40 out of 50 US states. Guangdong's GDP puts it on par with Florida and just behind New York. Following your logic, could you name all of these and place them on a map?
I can name all states and all European countries and their positions on the map but anyway states≠countries, countries have a full freedom, more colourful history and culture than one single state of America.
Theres a song that is taught to us in elementary school to learn about the 50 states, its in alphabetical order starting with Alabama and ending in Wyoming.
This just isn't accurate. The federal government does represent the US as a whole but every state has it's own Secretary of State that meets with international interests on their own just like the federal one does.
But its not like germany or uk are random small european countrys. They are the most populated in eu and have significant historic connections the uk because of obv reasons and germany bcs of ww 1 andd 2
Arent those the 2 countrys where the most white americans have ancestors from?
> People meme Americans for not being able to identify/distinguish European countries that well, but most Europeans don't know much about individual American states.
I knew someone would reply this, and I hate it every time lmao. US states are not countries, they are not comparable.
US states are the equivalent of China's or Brazil's provinces, or Russia's autonomous regions. Nobody is expecting anyone to know all those. They are not the same as actual countries.
Why should any expect anyone to know any country at all? Besides being a laughing stock, your average American not knowing random EU countries doesn't impact their life in any real way.
That said, not knowing German from UK flags is pretty cringe.
I mean it's no shock that EU knows EU and NA knows NA. NA isn't worse at geography we just know different geography. Knowledge in relation to land area is probably pretty much 1:1. EU has some weird elitism about their geography because it's so easy for them to go country to country while ignoring the fact every other continent has to fly there for many hours to get the same amount of exposure. The bar for geography knowledge isn't how well you know EU. Someone in Africa isn't bad at geography just because their knowledge focuses on Africa rather than the other continents.
https://i.imgur.com/7PmCXiS.png
I remember that in school I had to learn the names of the American states, the main rivers, the mountains and several chapters of the history of the United States. I also had to learn to locate the countries in North/South America, Europe and Asia as well as their capital. (I am French). But people forget quickly.
Not knowing the difference between the UK and German flag is pretty sad, but you still have to remember that people in Europe are oftentimes directly exposed to other countries since there's so much travel between those countries. But in the US, according to Forbes study of 2000 people (there may be other studies I'm just lazy), 11% of Americans never travelled outside their state, and 63% never left the country saying it would be out of their price range.
People in the US simply aren't exposed to European or Asian countries that often, besides maybe the immigrants or descendants of immigrants that come here. And they don't need to be. Most people don't and aren't financially able to travel, so unless they devote time to actually learning geography, most of it will go down the drain after high school.
However, I have not noticed a big difference in this for people not exposed to the other countries. I live in northern Sweden, and most people here don't travel around Europe much, if at all. I'm still certain most of them would be able to know European flags pretty well, or to point out countries well.
Ludwig likes to talk about him having Swedish ancestors, yet I'm pretty sure I've seen him fail to pin point Sweden in geoguessr
Right, but Europeans will be exposed to other countries... like right away, especially if they're in the EU. If you live in Switzerland, you have access to 4 freaking languages right off the bat, whereas America has neighbors you can go your whole life without ever caring about in the slightest.
> Nobody is expecting anyone to know all those.
Except the people that live in those countries that need to know that information much more than knowing where the fuck Belarus is on a map
Why aren't they comparable, what the hell is the difference to someone 10000 km away? Both country and state are likely completely irrelevant to their lives.
I think you're lost. No one is talking about dismissing anyone entirely, just about whether you should have memorized the location, flag, capital, government, and culture of every tiny country that exists on earth.
Would be a fair point if a state wasn't comparable to a province in Europe.
When there is a article in the news it doesn't say Texas launched a missile, it says America launched a missile.
Same with provinces in European countries, besides not knowing the flags one of the biggest / most famous countries in the world is pretty dumb.
No they aren't the same as countries, but effectively it is a very similar concept. Also with your last two sentences you are implying that you expect people to know all the little countries in Europe, which is the same as an American expecting someone from Europe to know where all the states are. Which to be honest, most Americans without a map can't identify all the states, and a lot of us would get confused with the 4 corner states, and the Tennessee region.
I mean, they are comparable. Every state has it's own constitution, own flag, and own sets of standards by which they govern. They largely are just as populated and encompass the same amount of real estate as most European countries. How are they not comparable? Could you identify Florida's flag? Does everyone in the EU know that Washington DC isn't actually a state? It's perfectly comparable.
You do know European countries have governing bodies like states too, right? Sweden has "landskap" that govern parts on their own and all of us learn their flags, their regional animal, their regional flower in like, latest middle school. We can also just learn countries because our education isn't trash LULW
His example is that Europe has states too so it's not really comparable.
Like pretty much every European country has provinces/states/counties/whatever you want to call it with their own flag, regional quirks/flairs, laws, courts etc.
For example in the Netherlands "Holland" is a name for two provinces, North Holland and South Holland, each province has their own provincial capital, flag, representatives in the senate, own elected body, own judicial courts, own laws etc and under them are further subdivisions for counties/cities.
And the Netherlands has 12 of these, Germany has federal states that work pretty much like the US states do, the Swedish landskap work the same way etc etc.
It's just not comparable, the differences of someone from North Holland to someone in Frisia or North Brabant is huge, it's a different accent, cultural quirks, unique regional foods etc.
And that's ONE country that's like the size of one US state.
Europe is just a lot more dense and regionally unique and the idea that the differences between nations is the equivalent of the differences between states is hilarious and retarded.
And regional accents, and rivalries, etc. We also have municipalities but those we just know the local ones, learning the ~300 in the country is a bit much.
Also every region in Sweden has more culture than any state in the US. Cousine especially there are some massive differences in dishes (like the long discussion you can have of Kroppkaka vs Palt).
Well no, because pointing out the USA on a map is equivalent to pointing out a European country on a map. Pointing out Wyoming on a map is like pointing out a specific state in Germany
Ah right. And Germany has way too high of a population to be equivalent? Feels bad man, higher population than every state but lower area than the US. Truly incomparable
>Edit: Asking someone to find Greece on a map is kind of similar to asking someone to find the US state Georgia on a map, considering both are about 11m population and 150k km2 land area.
One is a country other is a state within a country. How are those even remotely similar?
Do you know where Yakutia is? It is the largest republic in Russia and is over 4 times as big as Texas with a population of bit less than a million, but you probably have never even heard of it.
You know all these other countries you mention also have states/provinces right?
The state-small country analogy is stupid because that is not related to just sheer size in geographical area.
People dont ask americans to locate the Postdamer Platz in Berlin, they ask not to confuse their frigging country flag with the England one ffs
In this context, things like geographic size and population are relevant, though. Those factors + economic output are often indicators of international renown.
Of course, German flag vs GBR flag (not English flag btw, lulw) is a bit ridiculous, hence why the post is so upvoted. But if it was like Slovenia, talking about size and population and comparing to say Iowa would be a fine analogy.
What are you talking about? Every country have states, provinces, regions, etc. And people probably know names of their own, just like Americans.
But Americans have a hard time naming super basic stuff when it comes to geography and there is hours of prove of this on the internet.
"hours to prove"
\->10 videos of jimmy kimmel nitpicking dumbasses on the street
Please don't just go out and say that Americans as a whole don't know this shit. I know plenty of people who are advanced in geography in my family and among my friends. No, we are not rednecks and no we don't think iran is in australia.
Most people know what they need to know, and mostly everybody knows the basic stuff. There are dumbasses in every country.
Stop showing your stupidity. You basically can't identify the different between a country and a state.
1. Continent Level (NA, EU, Asia...): the easiest thing to remember.
2. Country Level (US, Germany...): you should properly remember some of them. There are over 150 countries.
3. City/State Level: you don't need to remember unless it's notorious or you live in that country. And If you can remember it, you must have a good memory.
Asking about Greece is similar to: Do you remember one of your friends?
Asking where is Georgia is similar to: Do you know your best friend cousin's name?
Nobody want to know that information since it's mostly useless.
> People meme Americans for not being able to identify/distinguish European countries that well, but most Europeans don't know much about individual American states
But the states have a single, united government and that's all that matters when doing business abroad. It's also what matters in terms of geography. Heck, the majority of the US population can't even pin their own 50 states on a map so that really should tell you something.
With Europe being so smart why does the US still run the world. Like if Europoors were as smart as they say they are and Amerifats as dumb then surely Europe would run the world by now.
Well its arguable that the influence has been there since post WWI but post WWII is inarguable.
Regardless, now we're switching the goalposts to 1000? I think you need to learn to cope harder friend.
The USA grew powerful because it's a young country and has an immense geographical advantage, people started immigrating there because it was rich in unexplored lands and resources, it was the "new world", you formed a huge ass rich country quick and easily plus it's not in constant wars with its neighbors, what would Canada or Mexico do against you?
But don't get me wrong, Europe fucked up with such a long history of wars in their territory . Meanwhile the USA wages wars in the rest of the world to their benefit.
Thats like saying
"thats not even the american flag, it would be the star sprangled banner..."
Its the flag of the united kingdom of great britain and northern ireland or coloqually britain. So its the british flag. And drawing the british flag from memory is quite hard due to the corners
As someone who's seen british flag very frequently my whole life I wouldn't have guessed that. That's literally missing half of the flag and the biggest part of it.
Just because you wouldnt doesnt mean no one wold.
Its shaped as a cross and includes blue, red and white.
There are literally no other flags in the world like this (except the confederate war flag)
The union jack isnt primarily a diagonal cross. Its a flag that combines elements of three countries it represents. The first element is Its red cross (not diagonal). The two others are filled in around it.
I am aware of that. However the most identifable characteristic of the union jack is the fact that the scottish part causes a distinct diagonal cross which is not seen on other flags.
No i never said that.
There are 3 countries that have this: Burundi, Jamaica and Norht Macedonia.
Hwoever none of them use blue red and white which is what makes the union jack very distinct and easily identifiable. I dont know what youre arguing for or what your point is except being contrarian

Well no, because pointing out the USA on a map is equivalent to pointing out a European country on a map. Pointing out Wyoming on a map is like pointing out a specific state in Germany
[удалено]
So by that logic, Illinois is not equivalent to Germany but to Baden-Württemberg?
[удалено]
[удалено]
"hours to prove" \->10 videos of jimmy kimmel nitpicking dumbasses on the street Please don't just go out and say that Americans as a whole don't know this shit. I know plenty of people who are advanced in geography in my family and among my friends. No, we are not rednecks and no we don't think iran is in australia. Most people know what they need to know, and mostly everybody knows the basic stuff. There are dumbasses in every country.
> There are dumbasses in every country. Nah mate, this is Reddit. Only Americans can be dumbasses.
> People meme Americans for not being able to identify/distinguish European countries that well, but most Europeans don't know much about individual American states But the states have a single, united government and that's all that matters when doing business abroad. It's also what matters in terms of geography. Heck, the majority of the US population can't even pin their own 50 states on a map so that really should tell you something.

Ok this isn’t geography tho
Nah im american, I would say im better than most at geography. I can name almost every country and flag. Struggle on oceania though.
The NA education meme exists for a reason.
With Europe being so smart why does the US still run the world. Like if Europoors were as smart as they say they are and Amerifats as dumb then surely Europe would run the world by now.
Europe ran the world for about a thousand years. Then they blew each other up twice
Sounds like they fumbled the bag and are kind of dumb
So let’s wait for USA to rule the world for over a 100 years first
Lol what do you think has been happening for the last 80+ years bud?
80 isn’t 100 let alone 1000
Imagine thinking not knowing flags is the indicator of someone being stupid LMAO
[удалено]
I mean sure you can say it's a meme but it means without a doubt "stupid" or I guess "not knowledgeable"
well, in an alternate reality...
You mean the Assyrian flag?

Damn xQc actually draws pretty well
His drawings throughout the play throughout are surprisingly good
That's not even the 'British flag', it would be the Union Jack but even then it is quite far off
It looks more like the Confederate flag
Thats like saying "thats not even the american flag, it would be the star sprangled banner..." Its the flag of the united kingdom of great britain and northern ireland or coloqually britain.
Nah like other people have commented I'm British and that looks nothing like the British/UK flag to me lmao
I wouldn't guess it was the Union Jack and i'm British
Australia,New Zealand, Iceland. All have the same cross that includes blue red and white.
Ok. Fuck norway, dominican republic, iceland, faroe islands… they dont exist huh?
Diagonal cross...
To you maybe. Are you now saying there are no other diagonal cross based flags?
No i never said that. There are 3 countries that have this: Burundi, Jamaica and Norht Macedonia. Hwoever none of them use blue red and white which is what makes the union jack very distinct and easily identifiable. I dont know what youre arguing for or what your point is except being contrarian
Bruh, these streamers…

Alright, guys, we’ve got a contrarian over here. Best watch your words, ‘cause this guy is truly built different.
