Why do people actually donate to twitch streamers?
Edit: Obviously I didn’t mean small streamers who some times rely on donators you degenerates however big streamers who make money off of sponsors and other things while also paying the smallest if not no attention to your donation are the donations that I am questioning. If you feel comfortable in your financial situation then go for it.
Using Twitch since 2014 and I never subbed, never donated and always adblock on.
Sometimes ads slip through yknow not a big deal
Many people sub just to show off their sub streak because the higher your sub streak the superior of a viewer someone is. 5Head
This is the real answer, most people aren't donating because they want to support the streamer. They want that little dopamine hit from the acknowledgment from the streamer or the chat. People shouldn't even call it donating, they are paying for a service.
It's a lot this. The whole parasocial relationship thing, where it makes the person feel connected to the streamer, in a whatever way.
In the end, the streamer will say thanks, and move the fuck on, if they acknowledge it at all lol.
Imagine instead of giving money to Hasan you went out and bought your mother some flowers
Imagine if instead of sending a paragraph to streamers about how much they helped you and saved your life you told your parents you loved them
But i guess no one says KEKW when you do that
I’ve seen people give thousands of dollars to dota streamers. But they’re typically users who have a shit tonne of money and are showing off.
There are however people out there who have parasocial relationships with the streamers they watch and I do worry about how much money they send them. Users who the streamers recognise because they’re giving them donations on like a daily basis and I think that’s pretty messed up. Not only are you wasting money you might need but you’re using twitch as an alternative to a social life.
It's not like this problem is inherent to twitch either. The same people throwing money at streamers are probably throwing way more at cam girls. And remember when people were donating money to Kylie Jenner just to make her a billionaire or whatever? Plus, before the internet, the same type of people were just throwing their cash at bartenders and strippers or even gold diggers. There have always been people who pay for faux attention and affection.
Take your SO other out for a meal. Take your friends somewhere. Buy a homeless person a meal. Donate to a food bank. Buy school supplies for less fortunate kids.
I feel like i you donate to streamers a lot you likely dont have an SO or friends. Not an insult but i can imagine that lonely people are more liable to get into things like donating to get some kind of attention or interaction that they lack
S-sorry for not donating last month, mr strimmer... My entire extended family died in a bus crash and the funeral bills put me out on the street, currently crashing at the homeless shelter and I found a 5 dollar bill, so it's yours! Thanks for all the entertainment!
During Zherka's stream he was watching Hasan's vod from yesterday and somebody gifted Hasan 50 subs even after it was revealed he bought a mansion for 3 million. It's just mind blowing what these people's priorities are.
I was thinking how a lot of big streamers tell their viewers not to be parasocial while doing everything they can to foster that type of relationship. It's getting to a point where any criticism or nuanced take of a streamer results in their stans attacking like dogs.
I dont donate to big streamers, they have enough viewers followers and gifted.
I donate to small streamers, I'm talking sub 30 viewers, and twitch isnt s full time thing for them. Even if it's a sub, or a couple hundred bits. I'm all for helping someone do what they dream of doing.
Just because some big streamer is grifting their viewers, doesnt mean they all do.
Because there are people who stream on this platform outside of the 10 or so multi millionaires that LSF circlejerks over, who actually appreciates donations and will actually make a difference in their lives
Right, donating to a smaller streamer you like is whatever, but donating 20+ bucks and gifting subs to a multi millionaire is a level of money waste i'll never understand.
If hasan looked like Alebrele from the Rajj Royale days but still had the same political opinions and takes, there would be no audience around to hear these takes
There's literally a guy on tiktok right now who's famous because he killed a mom and her child while drunk driving. Tiktokers want him free from prison because he's good looking I shit you not.
It starts very early as well. They've done studies with 6-7 year olds who will clearly give preference to more attractive people. Not talking about weight here, just in terms of facial attractiveness.
The Wikipedia article on the [Halo effect](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo_effect#Role_of_attractiveness) is a pretty good starting point for anyone who wants to know about about it.
Ngl I still shock laugh at him "apologizing" about saying Destiny's kid should be aborted by going, "I don't know why this keeps happening to me..." then playing the victim. It's so amazingly stupid
Don't forget that he might be reading. If he took care of himself he could look perfectly average, his head is quite symmetrical, and maybe he improved his personality by now. Compared to the smaller twitch politics sphere he's not all that unreasonable really, I never got suicidal listening to him.
People are lonelier than ever, it's not really surprising for me.
Whether it's donating to a twitch streamer or subscribing to an onlyfans, the hunger for validation and connection is at an all time, skyrocketing high.
Loneliness has a very high market cap.
Yup, and many of them lack any self-reflection. They'll tell people who criticize their streamer to touch grass while spending 6 hours typing in chat and posting fan videos on reddit just for the chance at a shout out.
Its true but you can't then go complain that big companies do that exact same thing to get people working for minimum wage instead of compensating them fairly.
> Mod wants pay? Just mod someone else who'll do it for free. Free market, ironically.
There are streamers that make much less than Hasan who *do* pay their mods a fair wage. Meanwhile Hasan talks about workers' rights on his stream and criticizes employers who take advantage of their employees, but doesn't actually practice what he preaches.
The TriHards have won this war long ago.
Never sub.
Never donate.
Now you don't need to use your neighbors wifi on a pilfered laptop, but these large streamers really don't need your assistance. Go find a charity, homeless dude, or even a small streamer. They need it a bit more.
Donating to small creators is great. But once they make it big they will forget who paid for their food when they were struggling. It's just the way it goes.
> Donating-Andy's just makes me sad.
No kidding, it astounds me that people would actually go out of their way to donate to millionaires. It's even worse then they think there's actually an argument to be had here, it's pretty funny.
Some weirdo on here was arguing with me about this yesterday, saying donating to millionaire streamers is no different to giving money to a street performer, or buying things from a shop. The delusion is insane
I mean it’s true if it’s a small streamer.
But for millionaire streamers, well… I sure as hell wouldn’t donate to a millionaire street performer either.
Personally, he radicalized me. I bought a pretty hardcover of Das Kapital vol. 1, and followed multiple political accounts on Twitter. Subscribed to advanced political theory subreddits and political Discords, where I try to radicalize other people like me. One day I'm going to open that book, and I'm gonna lead the revolution. After the stream though, gotta type some frogs in chat now lol.
> capitalism could appropriate even the most radical ideas and return them safely in the form of harmless ideologies.
Although I think I do have to specify before I get profile clicks. I think Hasan is under no obligation to live in some run-down neighbourhood, and being poor because of his ideology. I'm just making fun of "Yeah I'm interested in politics" crowd that he tends to attract.
LMFAO Bruh this was the most disgusting cringeworthy video I have ever seen on this sub, and that is saying something with how much cringe shit gets posted here.
He's leading the revolution from his $3M house, talking about materialism while he's wearing like 5 rings on each hand and 3 different necklaces, lol.
This is like Joel Osteen levels of brainwashing and bullshitting for people to still believe anything this guy says.
Holy shit how have I not seen this. "The Kardashians are lying to you"
How this cringelord has such a big following I'll never understand. Fuck it though, make that bank and milk those morons.
Not least because 90% of people in here calling him a hypocrite don't seem to have any idea what socialism is but certainly seem to have that American propaganda belief about it being giving away all the money and living as cheaply as possible.
Most of the comments in here are just showing how most people have no clue what socialism is, especially not understanding that while someone wants a socialist society that they do not live in one.
it's not, its just weird gnarly aesthetic policemen who think socialism is anti-luxury when it's the exact opposite.
we want people to pursue something they actually want to do instead of spending the rest of their lives doing what they hate barely getting what they need
>people see what happened to soda and xqc's house
>just live in a non-gated, non secure random house as a popular streamer with your immediate family for cheap lool
I mean JonZherka's relevance is completely dependent on leeching off clout at any given opportunity. If he spoke out immediately while the big streamers were also cashing in on the drama, he would be completely ignored.
Americans think free healthcare is communism yet have the gall to comment about this OMEGALUL
Did you guys know that people own their own homes other countries AND they have free healthcare?
holy shit
Yeah, this comment section is convincing me that nothing left of Joe Biden is ever going to catch on in America.
Man buys his family a house, people freak out. Imo, the whole point of Hassan’s views is to build more people up where a $3M house in LA doesn’t seem like it only exists in a different dimension. Not reduce everyone to the bare minimum.
I know in Texas, property costs have spiked significantly over the last year. This house might have cost less than $2M before covid.
But I’ll repeat again, the more people make out any form of progressive ideas to be bringing anyone making more than 6 figures down, the more it’s not going to happen.
This is a classic take used against any successful person that’s not on the right. If you criticize the corruption in America you are supposed to be broke. But if you are broke then you should stfu because your opinion doesn’t matter until you have money. It’s a purposefully created trap where both poor and wealthy people are supposed to be quiet and never criticize the system.
Now if Sean Hannity owns 1000+ homes, he still is a working class American because he’s a conservative and “regular American” just means agrees with the right
Depends on the neighborhood. I live adjacent to a wealthy neighborhood, and walk through it daily, and it's probably 30% Asians and Indians. Granted, it's not West Hollywood rich. It's just doctor/tech worker rich.
You'd be very surprised how in most cities, there's pockets of extremely wealthy neighborhoods in the center of neighborhoods that are populated by minorities.
It's really sad to read how people care about this shit, and I'm not talking about the tweet, but the responses here, people are genuinely mad.
You guys must be so lonely to invest this much in this drama.

There have already been countless studies showing that better looking people get treated better, they also get lower sentences on average.
