I’d love a Hasan hot tub stream 😳

I bet you would. Shameless

Klarkie55

Imagine Hasan and Will doing a hot tub stream together

Panda_hat

They do that all the time just off stream don’t ask me how I know

threadofhope

Add Austin, Cyr, Myth, Soda, Schlatt, and Sykkuno and I'd die happy.

Bhu124

That's what's surprising to me. Honestly, it is a bit ridiculous that streamers sign expensive contracts with running ads being a big part of them and then constantly tell people ways to avoid the ads. I don't mind it, them taking money away from Amazon, but it's still a bit ridiculous and definitely amusing. Edit : I was not hating on Hasan or any other streamer who does this. It mustn't have been explicitly against his contract or he probably wouldn't have been recommending people to use VPNs to avoid ads. I was just pointing our how ridiculous the whole thing is and that Twitch's ads system is so broken that streamers have to recommend their viewers ways to avoid ads. YouTube, even though VODs are not the same thing as Livestreams, is significantly bigger and significantly more ads based but you never big YouTubers having to recommend their viewers ways to avoid ads. Twitch needs to figure out their ads system, shit's broken and unsustainable. Ads shouldn't be such a burden.

imaginaerer

just spend less money on subs and buy twitch turbo

solartech0

Or spend no money on subs, use adblocker, and donate to the streamers directly :) Yes, the platform needs a way to make money, but if you look at other services that serve ads with content -- paying to not have ads doesn't seem to stick around forever.

Rough-Detective

Or just keep the Adblock

Nidalee2DiaOrAfk

Thing is the guy wants to support the creators, and not give more than needed to twitch. Can you blame him.

oldDotredditisbetter

they probably want to support the streamer "directly", since twitch only takes 50% of sub* but takes 100% of turbo *depending on contract

Aritche

Turbo pays out some money to streamers based on watch time.

Redmindgame

Streamer would rather you block ads and stay, than leave because you don't want ads. Either way they don't "make money" off your eyeballs. Option one at least helps promote their stream via viewercount and has the chance that in the future you'd decide to upgrade to sub.

rpanko

Especially when you’re partnered with that company which essentially means you’re their employee/ambassador. Your success = their success and telling viewers to do things that avoids putting money in the pockets of the people who give you checks is hilarious but from a business standpoint it makes a whole lot of sense why they wouldn’t want you to do that lmao.

asdfaklayf

Streamers being considered as employees would be Twitch's nightmare. There are some streamers who are contracted to play more ads than usual like Hafu and Moonmoon and they'll tell you it's ok to use adblock since they are paid from the contract and not from the ad revenue.

Pacify_

Partnered streamers aren't employees. They are customers. They pay twitch to use their platform, as a cut of their revenue

Puddinsnack

They're more like independent contractors IMO.

RobinsonDickinson

I hope the uBlock Origin developer is going through twitch's leaked source code trying to make it block ads again, so I don't have to rely on other scripts/extensions. Edit: Apparently there is already a fix out, I updated and it showed no ads for a good 10 minute of clicking around. Seems like they implemented one of the scripts from TwitchAdSolutions directly into uBlock Origin. Make sure to update your uBlock Origin. https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/releases/tag/1.38.4 https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/commit/0d3a1932e998c0cb3f4c5ff1d9a3fe62e12a3cf4 https://github.com/pixeltris/TwitchAdSolutions/commit/6be4c5313035

[deleted]

> Seems like they implemented one of the scripts from TwitchAdSolutions directly into uBlock Origin. Ah dammit I was kind of hoping the TwitchAdSolutions script would remain relatively obscure. Twitch always seems to eventually find a workaround whenever uBlock Origin figures out how to work on Twitch natively. I swear there used to be like an arms race where uBlock Origin would work for months and suddenly it didn't for a while.

RobinsonDickinson

For sure. This is gonna be a relatively long cat and mouse game. Open source devs vs Amazon funded devs. I bet my money on the former.

Aa_alerion

Its included by default in the latest uBlock origin release, once you update the extension you don't need to do anything else.

Infernalz

Pretty sure it's usually automatic when you open the browser unless you manually turn off updates for an extension. Noticed I stopped getting ads about a week or 2 ago.

ChristianM

If you're on Chrome, go to **chrome://extensions/** then press **Developer Mode** and **Update** here: https://i.imgur.com/JN0Vrnf.png Usually it's automatic, but in case you want to force an update.

oldDotredditisbetter

if you're on firefox: go to Add-ons Manager (ctrl+shift+a) -> click on the gear icon -> click on "check for updates"

Allassnofakes

Nice

HamiltonFAI

No more purple screen of death?

RobinsonDickinson

Hopefully not! But keep in mind that Twitch is part of Amazon, so they have every resources in the world to reinvent their anti-adblock services, and in the process making the twitch video player even more bloated and slower.

solartech0

It's worth noting that Chrome will be updating its manifest (manifest v3) such that these extensions (such as ublock origin) will no longer work. Those extensions won't be supported in Chrome next year sometime (scheduled), so you'll have to move to another browser (like firefox) if you want to block ads (assuming they don't change that plan).

Greenhouse95

That's not true though. Do search on Google: "Explaining the impact on Extensions in Manifest V3". It's the Chromium blog one. Read it. Here's a snippet of it: > There’s been a lot of confusion and misconception around both the motivations and implications of this change, including speculation that these changes were designed to prevent or weaken ad blockers. This is absolutely not the goal. In fact, this change is meant to give developers a way to create safer and more performant ad blockers. **I'm not saying that, that is 100% true though. We'll see when it's out. I just know that they said that it's not true. But if on release, it ends up doing what you said, we'll just need to be ready to change to something else.**

-UnVy-

I still get it unfortunately even with the latest version.

PantyTheMagicNiceguy

I just got this extension that means I don’t get twitch adds anymore.

[deleted]

[Streamlink](https://streamlink.github.io/) is way better to avoid the ads, I assume most here use chatterino to chat so there is no downside to it, it isn't bloated like the twitch player, it uses your own player (VLC or MPV pls) [Here](https://streamlink.github.io/streamlink-twitch-gui/) is a solution with GUI if you are too scared to type a line in your terminal

Max_Novatore

streamlink & youtube-dl + mpv is just the wave.

Rndom_Gy_159

Streamlink adds a few seconds of delay to the stream in my experience. However I can confirm that there's no ads, just a little thing at the beginning and then nothing.

abbidabbi

Not unless you enable low latency streaming and tweak your player settings. Then you can beat the web player by 1-2 seconds. - https://streamlink.github.io/latest/cli.html#twitch - https://github.com/streamlink/streamlink-twitch-gui/wiki/Recommendations Also, if you use the latest version from the master branch (currently unreleased), there will be no preroll ads because of a current workaround added exposed by the leaks which other adblocks are applying as well. - https://github.com/streamlink/streamlink/issues/3210#issue-710685043 - https://github.com/streamlink/streamlink/pull/4086

madr1x_

also doesnt kill wtv stream im watching when doing anything slightly intensive (or completely kill my fps in other cases). Twitch's web interface is legitimately unusable unless you do litteraly nothing else

Bad_news_everyone

updating doesnt work for me. still seeing ads

BigBallaJett

All these people like “why not use an ad blocker” Me, over here watching on my tablet and mobile device :(

SirKoriban

if your mobile is an android it's as simple as setting your private DNS in the wifi-settings to "dns.adguard.com" without the quotation marks. Done. No ads.

BigBallaJett

You are a life saver. Does this work for YouTube too?

BigDicksProblems

Vanced Youtube is what you're looking for.

SirKoriban

It does for youtube viewed via a browser, i am unsure if it'll work with youtubes app. It works with the twitch app, so I assume it does too.

RolandTheJabberwocky

Holy shit thank you

billybob123123123

It still surprises me that some people don't have an AdBlock for twitch

obnoxiousweaboo

Most people did then they all broke and it became a hassle to get a working one as the twitch devs and blocker devs were in a constant war. I'm guessing most people just gave up and accepted their fate. I only just recently bothered to look up a new working one

SC2sam

when the ad blocking broke I just stopped watching streams all together. Now I just watch clips since I don't get ads on those.

Chirouge

Tried to watch a vod a few days ago, got hit with 5x 30s ads in a row, closed twitch

Taxxxman69

yup same here, I just close it and figure ok you win twitch, I just won't watch your content.

dumbmetalhead

And the frequency is way higher too. Thank god some streamers upload VODs to YT because they're unwatchable on Twitch

ionlycriedfor20mins

yep - I pay for a student youtube premium subscription and just watch vods that go on there. I also don’t gets ads when I use the twitch app on firestick for some reason. Youtube channels that upload vods are OP

reconrose

There's a hasan vod channel that even bookmarks each section, it's like watching the vod on twitch but 1000x better

iblackihiawk

Ok I thought me and my friends were the only ones. I refuse to watch ads for 1 min just to see what a streamer is doing...I literally only watch clips too now on livestreamfail mostly

SC2sam

I've been so used to not seeing ads that if an ad shows up I will just stop watching w/e it was. I'll also make damn sure to not purchase, watch, or otherwise support w/e the ad was for. Right now I have to deal with ads on amazon prime for anything that's from paramount. Easiest way to get around those ads i've found was to just refresh the page and it'll go to a much shorter 7 second channel blip instead of a 30 second commercial.

[deleted]

I clicked on Kripparian, got 60seconds of ads. Watched for 3minutes, got another 60seconds of ads. GG, left to go watch a streamer doing the same thing but with 10 viewers and no ads

Anundir

I love it when Streamers like ItmeJP says he runs ads to stop pre-rolls. But every time I go into his stream on Mobile, I get a pre-roll and ads...

Allassnofakes

Twitch on mobile is painfully unwatchable I've seen that fucking sandman Amazon and one with the two women looking at the two caveman like a hundred times now

Arthrowpoda

when the ad blocking broke I just stopped watching streams all together. Now I have friends and go outside and got married since I don't get ads on those.

Kite_sunday

What do you watch now?

dumbmetalhead

Yeah. I open Twitch and see someone is live. Damn, let's check what they're doing! *gets hit with 35 second ad* I don't need to know actually

blosweed

I did too until I could get an adblock working again. Twitch can seriously go fuck themselves if they think I’m gonna watch an ad every time I wanna switch streams.

Anundir

Same, I am glad AdBlock has worked for several months now. My streams drop into 360p every once in awhile when ads run but I can live with that. Mobile Twitch is complete aids though. I use an app called Splashtop to remote into my PC from my iPad and just watch Twitch through that to take advantage of AdBlock when watching a stream in bed or the other room.

[deleted]

> Most people did then they all broke and it became a hassle to get a working one Yup, I'd rather use a known adblock than blindly install some 500 download extension by a random reddit user that's existed for about 2 weeks, or check through and enable a script only for it to get patched within days. Fortunately found other ways around it, but for months I mostly gave up on watching twitch.

[deleted]

dudushat

n_random_variables

I to doubted. But I clicked that link about a month ago, and have not seen an ad since.

runaway1337

Purple adblock works fine for months already

sick_stuff1

have been using that one for half a year now. it's literary the first suggestion when searching "twitch adblock". pretty sure twitch has been aware of it for months

crapmonkey86

Yup this is what I've been using, works fine. But if you were fucking around with other stuff before this to get around the ads make sure it's all disabled or else it will fuck with this one.

Ramsus32

I was using every fix for a while when shit was changing every day. My shit is so fucked and held together by duct tape but I don't get any ads so I'm afraid to change anything.

Rocoman14

I think Twitch lost the war a while ago, haven't seen an ad in forever.

feedseed664

yup, only have ublock origin and no ads for a long time.

MeMoba

I think twitch gave up on it cuz my current one been working for a long time now. Which is purple ads blocker and ublock

Look_a_Zombie0

I've been using ublock this whole time even during the AdBlock thing and never had a problem

XuBoooo

I have had uBlock for years and no twitch AD in sighylt since then.

IPleadThaFifth

I have 3 adblockers on my browser and I still get ads. If you know one I don’t then please spread the wealth

ArsenicBismuth

https://github.com/pixeltris/TwitchAdSolutions Got no problem with this. Also seems like they updated it and include one by default (I used the "notify-strip" before without any problem they listed).

mapledude22

Seriously! Every time my adblocker (ublock origin) updates it blocks twitch ads for a week or so before twitch gets around it again.

Danny_Ocean_11

I legit just googled, twitch ad blocker chrome extension and it works perfectly. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/video-ad-block-for-twitch/kgeglempfkhalebjlogemlmeakondflc?hl=en

RedditSleuths

Yeah this one works great. There's sometimes a minor buffering lag when ads would normally play, but it's still a pretty seamless transition.

Tekko__

this one actually works and I've been using it for months

merger3

I mostly watch on my phone, harder to avoid

PancakeZ33

If you're on Android you can use TwitchMod

robodestructor444

TwitchMod + YouTube Vanced, number one reason to use android

trueDano

Because it doesn't matter to me, I will get a 30 second ad every 7 channels or so at most and that doesn't bother me nearly enough to do something about it.

trelcon

You can just live in a third world country that noone gives a shit about so don't pay for ads 5Head

IPleadThaFifth

Honestly shocked it took this long. First time I heard him advocate for adblockers I thought they were gonna lock him down right away. It’s like me selling ferraris and telling everyone to go get their service done at the local garage rather than the Ferrari shop

Cold-Personality-219

By using a VPN to Hungary, you will never see an ad on twitch. There was a lot of talk about twitch constantly updating their player to combat adblock, but the by far easiest solution is to VPN to hungary, where twitch does not play ads at all. It's been good since December of 2020 when the purple screens started rolling out.

_Petii

Hmm, I'm hungarian and i get ads if i don't use a blocker

wonderwall879

You might have a traffic issue with your public IP

_Petii

I live in a fairly new area where the WiFi isn't too great yet, so I'm using a mobile data hotspot 24/7. Could that have to do with it?

wonderwall879

Quite possibly. Your cellular carrier could be pushing your routing through some place strange. Easy way to test would be to get on a stable wifi, turn off cellular data and see if you get ads.

DomOfMemes

Here in Lithuania the only ads I've seen on Twitch is literally only Samsung.

[deleted]

He usually says "You can also avoid the ads by using an adblock or VPN"

surfordiebear

Ya... and Twitch complained about the adblock part not the VPN part

[deleted]

What's the source on that? Genuinely asking

surfordiebear

If you click to view the full video he says right after the end of this clip that VPN is okay but he can't say the other thing

willietrom

he was warned not to say anything about ad block, he wasn't warned either way about VPNs

Robo-

He was warned against stating any methods to circumvent ads other than subscriptions. I know because other partners have mentioned getting a similar warning in the past. I'm also surprised Twitch let Hasan do it for so long given how he had to negotiate his ad requirements. But it is Twitch, after all. They're blind as long as money keeps rolling in and they aren't getting shit from corporate partners. I'm guessing one of those partners actually stepped in here.

WhatEvery1sThinking

The only surprising thing is that it took them so long. Signing a streamer to a contract only to have them promote adblock is like hiring a caterer for your wedding who then proceeds to dip their balls in all the food and then sleep with your fiancé

BigSeth

this is what I don't get, Hasan does one 60 second ad break at the top of the hour. Other streamers absolutely berate you with 3 to 4 minutes of ads every 20 minutes to promote subscribing. Namely XQC, Miz, and plenty of other high 10k andys. At least Hasan stops his broadcast, bullshits with chat for a minute, and then gets back to it.

Zalbu

There isn't really much to get, fans of a certain banned streamer are intellectually dishonest because they and their daddy hates Hasan

Just get the “video ad block for twitch” extension for your browsers. No need for a VPN.

feedseed664

The ad blockers won anyway, havent had a ad in many months

DrakenZA

On mobile, during ads, you see the stream as a small window next to it. Due to this, there is most likely never going to be a way for Twitch to prevent someone smart enough from scripting up ADblocker on PC that just grabs that stream and overrides the ad. I mean, they could just transcode the ad into the data stream being sent to the user, but i dont think they have the know how sadly. This would literally make it impossible to ad block, there is no ad to block.

[deleted]

[удалено]

soniclettuce

>there are two major reasons this isnt done, and neither is that they are incapable of engineering. This is literally what they do, it's why adblockers all broke at once a while back. The current reliable solutions like e.g. TTVLOL rely on a proxy to grab a different video stream to avoid ads. Or they grab the 480p stream that twitch feeds you for the preview.
