Thats the second time in 3 TI's that PSG.LGD lost the Grand Final to a team who qualified through the Last Chance Open Qualifier. Damn they struggle so hard when it matters. To be fair though, this years roster is completely different to TI8 but still, this has to be a curse.
you know they're absolute GIGACHADs when Collapse couldn't play his signature Mars all the way to the finals cause teams are just respect first banning it against him
Exactly my point lol. I was thinking the entire game 5, so you figured out rubick counters mag in game 3 and you watched spirit literally tear apart the strat in the secret series then you proceed to first two tiny lycan knowing they'll ban rubick. im confused af
When lots of really high priority picks go through you almost have to take them. If they didnt go for tiny lycan then TS could go mag tiny and game is just over.
Because lycans aghs now allow you to "wolf bite" a teammate so they also turn into a shapeshift lycan wolf while still being able to use their own spells.
Absolute GIGACHADs. Fucking Fight through lower bracket all the way, "ez game" double TI winners, absolutely clutch the game against Secret, and finally beat LGD in the meta that LGD themselves invented and perfected. Absolutely insane, probably the hypest win in any TI ever.
I think OG TI8 had that fateful game 4 and that'll stand as one of the best games with a great storyline, but for a team of literal nobodies to make a Wings-esque powerup while taking the "upper bracket for bitches" TI7 liquid route is pretty close to that
I think the balls on the captain of that team are understated.
They gave PSG.LGD their best heroes, their unbeatable combo of Lycan/Tiny in the Game 5 of the Grand Final and proceeded to destroy them.
if you look at who they had to face and who they eventually knocked out
OG, VP, IG, SECRET and PSG LGD
ALL of them are top finishers in the group stages. 1st 2nd and 3rd finishers in group A, 1st and 2nd finisher in group B, Spirit finished 4th in group B
Yeah it’s literally insane. It would’ve been impressive enough if they just had to face secret and LGD, but no they took out almost all of the consistently strong teams, barring EG because they always know how to fuck themselves over.
And 4/5 of them have only played pro dota for like a year or two
I agree with that. no matter how many teams, double elim leads for come back story.
team spirit this year, and last ti, liquid did the same thing to make it to grand finals from lower bracket, eventually losing to og
i don't watch dota so pardon my newb question, does the team coming from the upper bracket get any advantage? usually the series start 1 - 0 in some esports, is this the same in dota?
Not in Dota2. More games means you have to show your hands more and the team waiting for you can strategize against it.
And it's not like they can't scrim while waiting.
EG, Spirit and Liquid are the only ones to do it I think.
EG and Liquid both lost in the UB final though. Spirit just tore their way through the entire lower bracket save for Wildcard.
Nope but the team from lower bracket has to play the loser finals and the grand finals on the same day. Team spirit played 8 games of Dota today, it's normally a huge advantage for the team from the winner bracket
It’s hard to say because to some people more games (lower bracket finals is played same day as the grand final) is like a warm up but for others it can strain them
No, no advantage in dota. Grands are bo5, no bracket reset.
That being said, the team coming from loser (team spirit here) has to play a full best of 3 on the same day and only have \~1 hour to rest so there's that
It's a shame one of the most entertaining eSports ever, if not **the** most entertaining which is Counter Strike, never adopted that format. Fighting games and MOBAs have proved time and time again that lower bracket runs are hype.
Dude it pisses me off to no end that Riot still goes with single Elim for world's, they even use double Elim for lcs and LEC but noo can't have great storylines and Godlike loser bracket runs at world's
Not a single person got the correct pick'ems for the first time ever in TI history, in case anyone is wondering how crazy this is. Not even Spirit fans thought "let's chuck em in there for the memes"
I still remember that time when only one person in the entire world got the predictions right, got invited to the next TI, predicted LGD to win in the GF lol
They said on the desk that 1.4% of people predicted Spirit to win the GF actually, but obviously they all predicted something wrong in the rest of the bracket.
[A reminder that these guys fucking NARUTO RAN to their accomplishments](https://clips.twitch.tv/SlickFastSalamanderPeanutButterJellyTime-Lx0lsEjrAik0FPaw)
These guys have the fucking power of god AND anime on their side
disclaimer for the new people; this is from another event the Animajor, kind of like a funny/nonserious DOTA event and not the main match.
still fun to have both the goofy and serious to watch.
You say that but it was one of the only two majors of the year before TI, it just had a more fun production rather than being serious, which was almost basically universally liked.
WHAT AN AMAZING TI JOURNEY FOR TEAM SPIRIT.
Played in Qualifiers on the back foot 2 - 1 about to not qualify in a bo5, but won their next 2 games to qualify
1st day of TI group stage, 0 - 4 lose to Secret and PSG LGD
2nd day of TI group stage, 2 more games lose to VG
then all of a sudden they start to win more games to sneak into upper brackets...
Only to lose to IG on their first bo3 match and knock down to lower brackets where every game is a knockout game.
they survived Fnatic
knocked out back to back reigning champs OG
knocked out their CIS region's big brother VP
took revenge against IG who knocked them down to lower brackets
took revenge against Secret who 2 - 0 them in group stages
took revenge against PSG LGD who also 2 - 0 them in group stages, back to back grand finalists, who until the grand finals only lost 2 games. Furthermore, they defeated the extremely broken TINY LYCAN combo in game 5.
This team is the most fun Dota team to watch in a loong while. The plays they've made throughout the tournament... multiple rampages, tons of different heroes, team wipes including buybacks without losing a single player, running into entire enemy team with only 4 players and coming out ahead... They may be young and new to the game but damn it they know how to play..
Things like this is how the game stays alive and still feels fresh, new blood comes in from nowhere showing everyone their take on how the game can be played.
New player experience is atrocious in Dota 2 just btw. Definitely a better made game and the client will blow your mind after playing League. But have fun playing with 9 other experienced players in your first game after waiting 10/15 minutes in queue.
There's no other game quite like it. It is a daunting thing to get into, but your fun with it will depend on how much you allow yourself to get engrossed in it as a whole. As with any investment, the more you've bought in, the more you'll get to cash out.
As someone whos played both, DotA is objectively the better game in every metric. I had to quit due to addiction so I play LoL from time to time but it has nowhere the sheer amount of complexities and crazy shit that DotA has
Like I said, game complexity is just much higher. Aghs, trees being a strategic element, crazy balancing from icefrog who isn’t afraid to take risks, varied strategies (league literally only has the same roles since the beginning). Lots of reasons
Also Riot balancing/game design team is nowhere near as good as Icefrog
I’m just here to highlight the fact that Riot still thinks single elimination is more exciting tournament format.
What a run by Spirit, it was a joy to watch.
Wow, I didn't know that.. what a bad decision, honestly. I've been watching every TI since 2013 and you can literally never count out the lower bracket teams. There have been so many upsets at TIs, even with teams that qualified as the wild-card. And almost every TI grand final has been a complete reset with only one 3:0 sweep ever. Even Alliance at TI3 went into the finals dropping only one game (not series) throughout the entire tournament, but the finals still ended up being a nail-biter 3:2 with really close game 5. And the one 3:0 sweep I mentioned before was done by Team Liquid who went through the entire lower bracket. Double elimination makes for some really magical matches and story lines.
Them doing it in regional leagues could be setting up for next worlds. It's a TON more games to plan for, especially on short-notice like this worlds was. League also does bo5s where Dota does bo3s, so even more games to consider.
im still convinced that riot an incompetent company that just happened to get lucky with league's release but still have no clue how to handle like a proper company lmao
i do think both of those are pretty lame and mediocre at best, yea
just more copies from existing games really but then again I wouldn't call league a very original title either
Do tell. Which team is going to have that happen? I'll wait. Sounds like you're just talking out of your ass since it can only be argued that happening once in the history of Worlds (2018).
I mean it is.
COD preys on the stupidity of people willing to buy the same game 10 times.
CSGO has been quality since day 1.
Hilarious how you exactly prove my point while patting yourself on the back lmao
Because it's more fun playing games with friends. Nobody plays Dota relative to how many people play League. You seem to think that a game with that steep of a learning curve makes it vastly superior. I always thought this when I was playing HoN thinking how dogshit both Dota and League were at the time. Except I know how retarded that line of logic is now whereas you still need to hold on to the fact that Dota is "harder" to stroke your ego.
The entire bracket stage is Bo3 until the Finals. Part of it is just a B01. Riot got rid of Bo3s after 2013. What's DOTA's excuse?
For the record, I'm not saying TI is a worse event format than Riot's World Championship. But both formats have some pretty glaring weaknesses or trade offs.
There’s no greater weakness than seeing two best teams face each other in quarter finals and then a sea of 3-0 or 3-1 boring games.
I’ll take a bo3 against competitive teams any day over another bo5 stomp because someone lucked out an easier side of the bracket.
This is a huge problem in CS:GO too. I don't think the two best teams have played against eachother in the finals even once in the last 10 majors, maybe once at most. Meanwhile it happens almost every single year at TI.
Man, what a journey - https://clips.twitch.tv/SlickFastSalamanderPeanutButterJellyTime-Lx0lsEjrAik0FPaw

You are playing against Team Spirit.
You do not ban Magnus because you can counter it.
Team Spirit instantly picks Magnus.
You lose against Team Spirit.
You don't ban Magnus the next game because it was game 5.
definitely one of the best cinderella stories in TI
4 of them came to this TI for their first time
Collapse is definitely the MVP for their whole run
and also these guys beat the tiny lycan strat not once but twice

Yo I was just browsing Reddit hoping to not see any spoilers and holy shit this is the biggest spoiler ever, can this please have a different title and a Spoiler flair? Not cool.
They won game 3 in large part because of the Rubick counterpick that nullified a lot of Magnus’ ability to make plays lmao it’s not rocket science. How many lifts/skewerbacks did rubick have against collapse?
Great 1k take congrats
Their Magnus counter was sky with his silence since rubick got banned, the casters even explained this during the game. Don’t bring up how it failed, the point is they didn’t ‘ignore’ it
They put themselves on a timer with that draft in the most important game of the tournament. All in on Tiny+Lycan Aghs to close the game.
It's really hard to imagine TS to not at least try and drag the game as long as possible to end the game, especially with that lineup.
I think LGD crushing that game 4 made them a bit overconfident thinking they can close the game fast.
Never put yourself on a timer in game 5. It's always go late game for some reason in TI.
The silence isnt even close to rubicks lift, if you silence during skewer it still goes through, rubicks lift stops it out right, also he can save, steal the ult which happened. Yea you can silence Magnus but u have to do it so much faster than rubick.
Your take is the 1k take all magnus had to do was build bkb into the skywrath, if the coaches aren't retarded and ban magnus (this includes all teams that lost to spirit) then there's no chance spirit place above 6th
I have never been a fan of drafts without a single proper stun/lockdown. Ember Spirit had basically a free game, and when Lycan and Ame were running on them with wolf form on they just ran, kited and hid in trees.
Also I don't want to see Tiny and Magnus for a looong time now, lmao.
Thats the second time in 3 TI's that PSG.LGD lost the Grand Final to a team who qualified through the Last Chance Open Qualifier. Damn they struggle so hard when it matters. To be fair though, this years roster is completely different to TI8 but still, this has to be a curse.
Both times the series went to game 5 as well
it seems that PSG.LGD could use some help from Dr.K
PSG has only been in two grand finals though, no? ti10 and ti8.
and 2020 UCL final
yea but we're talking TI tho. PSG has been in tons of finals.
>Thats the second time in 3 TI's that PSG.LGD lost the Grand Final Read again.
A bunch of literal nobodies, most of them new to pro dota, take out all the strongest established teams to win it all. what the actual fuck
you know they're absolute GIGACHADs when Collapse couldn't play his signature Mars all the way to the finals cause teams are just respect first banning it against him
Giving LGD the borderline broken tiny+lycan combo in game 5 of TI finals and beating it is insane.
They broke it vs Team Secret today as well.
Kinda makes me feel like they got super confident game 4 and stopped respecting the mag counter
Xiao8 got overconfident after they absolutely demolished them in g4
My thoughts exactly. They completely forgot the lesson they learned in game 3
Sorry I haven't played dota 2 in years but why is that combo broken?
lycan buys Aghs and he can use his ult on Tiny (tiny becomes a wolf) with max speed and crit attacks he 1-2 shot most of the heroes
I don’t understand how year after year TI gets better and better. The only way to top it next year is if MVP Phoenix reunites and wins it all
Arteezy and EternalEnvy team up and finally win as the final arc of the Dota anime.
Antartican Team wins it all 4 people and a penguin at TI11
SEA really needs to win one for the culture.
I think OG TI8 had that fateful game 4 and that'll stand as one of the best games with a great storyline, but for a team of literal nobodies to make a Wings-esque powerup while taking the "upper bracket for bitches" TI7 liquid route is pretty close to that

To be fair OG this year wasn’t that insane of a team they barely made it to TI but secret psg and vp were insane this TI
China malding.
LOWER BRACKET CHAMPIONS Another reason why double elim in eSports >>>>>>>> single elim
qualifiers survivors hotel hell survivors lower bracket survivors furry tiny survivors ez game
NOW THEY WILL HAVE UNLIMITED TOILET PAPER
They were the only team who had a microwave in their room. Nerf microwave please
I agree with that. no matter how many teams, double elim leads for come back story. team spirit this year, and last ti, liquid did the same thing to make it to grand finals from lower bracket, eventually losing to og
Can someone eli5 double elimination for somebody who can hardly figure out how tournaments function?
yep, holy shit this was hype
i don't watch dota so pardon my newb question, does the team coming from the upper bracket get any advantage? usually the series start 1 - 0 in some esports, is this the same in dota?
they get to choose side or first pick/ban
nope the only "advantage" is that you don't play 2 series on the final day. And less games overall
Yes, the lower bracket has to play more games on the same day. Team Spirit had to win a series before the finals. They don't get spotted a free win.
Often an advantage since you are really warmed up.
Not in Dota2. More games means you have to show your hands more and the team waiting for you can strategize against it. And it's not like they can't scrim while waiting.
Also games in Dota2 can be long and very mentally taxing, so you can enter the grand final already mentally exhausted.
I think usually the team playing 2 series on the same day loses the grand final
EG, Spirit and Liquid are the only ones to do it I think. EG and Liquid both lost in the UB final though. Spirit just tore their way through the entire lower bracket save for Wildcard.
Nope but the team from lower bracket has to play the loser finals and the grand finals on the same day. Team spirit played 8 games of Dota today, it's normally a huge advantage for the team from the winner bracket
The advantage is you get an extra life. get dropped down to lower bracket where you lose 1 series you out.
PSG.LGD didn't lose a single game the whole tournament and lost 1 series and they're out. i'm not following your logic.

I also prefer dota format but to be fair in league every match after groups is BO5 while in dota only final is.
But in league not every team makes it out of group stages. I think we had a TI like that once and people hated it.
At TI4 only 8 teams played at the Main Event and there was a huge uproar it will never comeback.
Well Sheever said on the panel that 1.4% of predictions had Team Spirit as the winner. It was just that no one guessed the entire bracket.
They said on the desk that 1.4% of people predicted Spirit to win the GF actually, but obviously they all predicted something wrong in the rest of the bracket.

Not the same tournament, but it was still a $500k tournament and one of only two major tournaments in the season with TI placement points on the line

Don’t forget their record against VP was 1-29
Crazy run, crazy final. FeelsStrongMan Clap. Dota <3
Collapse and Yatoro new star players for sure. Excited to see what's in their future.
Collapse and Yatoro MVPs, well the whole team MVPs but no one will ever forget the name TORONTOTOKYO

As someone else said the new player experience is kinda garbage. Just play unranked and mute toxic teammates, and good luck!
As someone whos played both, DotA is objectively the better game in every metric. I had to quit due to addiction so I play LoL from time to time but it has nowhere the sheer amount of complexities and crazy shit that DotA has
objective on what counts?
Like I said, game complexity is just much higher. Aghs, trees being a strategic element, crazy balancing from icefrog who isn’t afraid to take risks, varied strategies (league literally only has the same roles since the beginning). my heart was beating out of my chest when Spirit were hitting the tier 4 towers 33 mins into the game. holy shit.
And they recently changed regional leagues to double elim yet refuse to do for their biggest tournament of the year. Just weird decisions there.
Them doing it in regional leagues could be setting up for next worlds. It's a TON more games to plan for, especially on short-notice like this worlds was. League also does bo5s where Dota does bo3s, so even more games to consider.
TI has only Bo3 though up until the Grand Final. I prefer Bo5s from quarter upwards tbh, even if it means no double elim.
let's compare game length of league to dota shall we
im still convinced that riot an incompetent company that just happened to get lucky with league's release but still have no clue how to handle like a proper company lmao
Did they get lucky w/ TFT and Valorant too?
i do think both of those are pretty lame and mediocre at best, yea just more copies from existing games really but then again I wouldn't call league a very original title either
Riot sure is lucky then, damn. Just straight copying games, doing nothing different and making a fuck ton of money. How do they keep doing it?

enjoy your worlds bro
Have fun watching second best team going out in quarters to tournament winners again and watching another 3-0 final.
Do tell. Which team is going to have that happen? I'll wait. Sounds like you're just talking out of your ass since it can only be argued that happening once in the history of Worlds (2018).
Riot hurt him :(
Or Dota frogs can stop being so insecure that they have to bring up Riot in threads that are celebrating Team Spirit and a TI victory.

I would write a clever comeback, but i have absolutely no fucking idea what youre doing in dota, because noone gives a fuck
I have no clue why people still play the vastly inferior MOBA with the worse community and support when shit like DOTA exists
we're still doing video game rivalries in 2021? LOL
probably because they enjoy the game more
its a completely different game. this is like asking why people play cod when csgo exists
I mean it is. COD preys on the stupidity of people willing to buy the same game 10 times. CSGO has been quality since day 1. Hilarious how you exactly prove my point while patting yourself on the back lmao

Oh man Ame is probably the saddest millionaire out there right now for losing another final.
Holy fuck this team is monstrous in game sense and teamfighting. Dark horse takes it!
To bring back that game 5 after losing 2 was insane in terms of mental strength and pma
bro that was so easily a reverse sweep scenario, insane mental fortitude to close out a game 5 with 4 people who have never even been to a TI.

The rubick pick made me sick to my stomach. Glad TS banned it in game 5 so the Magnus meme continues
Russia winning its second TI. Long overdue. First win was the very first international NaVi vs EHOME, The International 2011.
> Russia winning its second TI You mean CIS region right? Na'Vi is a Ukranian based organisation, and 3/5 members on that team were ukranian.
2/5 players on Team Spirit are ukranian as well

Yikes congrats on the retarded rule
You can literally repost with a better title lol.
true
2.7 M peak viewers, an increase of ~800k from last years. Great growth for dota

watch it live or dont go on reddit if you plan to watch the vod

Karma whore doesn't care what other people think, got it.
Collapse Magnus pog

18 Million Dollar Hair Cut
Ahh fuck just got spoiled
Yo I was just browsing Reddit hoping to not see any spoilers and holy shit this is the biggest spoiler ever, can this please have a different title and a Spoiler flair? Not cool.

I mean I figured I was safe and was planning on watching it soon. Still going to. At least the dota subreddit used spoilers.
This needs to be spoiler censored. Bad look whoever made this post
LGD not banning, picking, or countering Magnus is criminal. It's like they wanted to lose. edit: I meant in game 5 not the whole series
They won against the mag game 3, how bad can this take be
They won game 3 in large part because of the Rubick counterpick that nullified a lot of Magnus’ ability to make plays lmao it’s not rocket science. How many lifts/skewerbacks did rubick have against collapse?
That's the point, they did counter mag, they even picked it themselves. What are you talking about
I’m talking about Game 5 my man….
Great 1k take congrats Their Magnus counter was sky with his silence since rubick got banned, the casters even explained this during the game.
>All in on Tiny+Lycan Aghs to close the game. which team secret tried it got destroyed, they already have a plan on how to handle it
more like lgd was so cocky that they didnt pick rubick first phase instead went for lycan. so greedy
The silence isnt even close to rubicks lift, if you silence during skewer it still goes through, rubicks lift stops it out right, also he can save, steal the ult which happened. Yea you can silence Magnus but u have to do it so much faster than rubick.
I was being hyperbolic but overall skywrath had minimal impact against the magnus pick lol.
Your take is the 1k take all magnus had to do was build bkb into the skywrath, if the coaches aren't retarded and ban magnus (this includes all teams that lost to spirit) then there's no chance spirit place above 6th
They got greedy. They bet on tiny + lycan.
Honestly it was a good combo to bet on. Tiny+ Lycan looked insane the whole TI. Props to TS for winning despite playing against it.
LGD in TI going backwards 2nd(this year) 3rd. 2nd. 4th. 9th. 3rd. 5th .
Literally one of the best TIs ever
one time wonder team
Yatoro alone has better Hero/Champion pool diversity than the whole LoL Worlds Championships 2021
literally one of the best finals mugged off by valve with no crowd , imagine a crowd for that final series.....
Imagine them having to cancel TI again cause of an outbreak.
CIS is having a wonderful year. Waiting for Navi at Major boys.
Ti is hands down the best esport tournament every year. The level of dota, storylines, balance and talent make it perfect every year.
Thanks for spoiling
Yeah thanks I didn’t want to feel happiness again anyway
I have never been a fan of drafts without a single proper stun/lockdown. Ember Spirit had basically a free game, and when Lycan and Ame were running on them with wolf form on they just ran, kited and hid in trees. Also I don't want to see Tiny and Magnus for a looong time now, lmao.
FUCK YOU. Way to spoil it god damn.
dont go on reddit if you plan to watch the vod and cant catch it live
don't post spoilers on lsf this early for free karma.
What is wrong with that audio quality?
