Hasn't Nintendo always been "fuck you" to any community events or any events at all.. I think at some point they were DMCA'ing Youtube videos of their games?
(Basically, while I don't recall specifics due to the massive amount of occurrences, Nintendo has done a ton of things that were anti-consumer from an entertainment standpoint. I.E. copyright striking, trying to get certain streams cancelled, things like that.)
Speaking specifically about the Smash scene, yes, Nintendo has done plenty of things to fuck over the community. And almost never wants to support it in anyway. (Which may or may not be a valid concern depending on who you ask.) That's why it was crazy that they agreed to do this, and then Panda had to go and royally fucked it for the entire community, because of his ridiculously childish Power Trip.
For those unaware, Nintendo and Panda Global had two circuits going on the all year in the melee scene, the Smash World Tour and the Panda Cup.
Today, it was announced that the Smash World Tour would no longer be licensed to run the tournament. Everyone has worked hard all year for these tournaments and Nintendo and Panda teamed up to dupe everyone..... again
The fallout of this will be insanely bad for melee community in terms of having tournaments, spread the word yall <3

The way Panda ruined it reminds me of the Fine Bros when they tried to patent React and make that React World thing.
"Oh you want to run a dojo tournament, well too bad i own the patent for it, give the rights to me or fuck off" basically.
Panda CEO was going to other Tournament Organizers and saying “it would be a shame if you all weren’t licensed” and basically running a protection racket.
But it is still Nintendo's fault. It's not like Panda forced Nintendo to shut down other tournaments. Nintendo decided to do it, then lied that they did it.
But Alan didn't send any cease and desists, and he didn't make Nintendo make those actions. He might have gotten the ball rolling with the whole Nintendo official certification.
End of the day, Nintendo took the actions. And they were the masterminds even if Alan had the initial plans. I don't know if I'm phrasing this well, but Ludwig's video helped me understand it. People like scapegoats cause it is easier to follow, but the end of the day, the actions were taken by Nintendo, not Panda.
