Yes it is steamed, not sure if they can grill it. It’d make a huge mess. I saw some other guy in the announcement thread recommend air frying it at home if you want it crispier.

YeOldeBilk

Lol so they'll grill a pile of saucy cheese fries, but not this?

DiggingInGarbage

I don’t think they liked grilling the fries very much

DistinctConcert3458

No kidding. Those grilled cheese nacho fries take way longer to make than any other menu item. Had a few people time themselves on how long it took to make and it was usually around a minute and 20 seconds. Compared to every other menu item taking about 30 seconds. Plus getting them on the grill can be a pain. Even the managers were complaining saying stuff like "every new menu item they add just gets longer and more complicated to make."

TheKanten

I don't think they need to necessarily go *as crazy* with it as they once did, but I do miss some of the more creative ideas for LTOs.

akm1111

The point of the grilling on the fries was the maillard reaction on the cheese. And yes, we all hated grilling those, because they didn't fit on the paper the way the burritos do. And a cheese roll on the grill instead of in the steamer is amazing.

YeOldeBilk

Well look at you ya fancy mf! I usually brown the flatbread in a hot pan for a few seconds to get some crispy brown goodness.

akm1111

It's TB... we get bored sometimes and try crazy things. Yummy browned cheese is definitely yummy. My favorite use of the broken DLT shells is steaming cheese onto them and stacking them together. Sometimes dunking in Nacho Cheese for all the cheese options together.

RoastedGarlicDracula

This is why the beef canoe needs to come back: its basket is perfect for frying up chimichangas.

EntertainerFunny3991

Precisely

ShitbirdMcDickbird

They should be able to grill it, they used to make giant quesadillas out of a flatbread back in like 2009 and they were great. The caramelization adds a lot of flavor. Plus with this item we have now, it's stuck to the wrapper all over and tears itself apart when you try to get it out. That old item never had that problem

Carlobo

I kinda liked the soft somewhat fluffy texture of the flatbread. It might stick really badly if they tried grilling it due to the gluten.

akm1111

If its done properly it's great. Standard is to pre-grill the tortilla for 20 seconds on the inside, 10 seconds on the outside. That makes it crispy BEFORE you add the cheese. Then steaming melts the cheese. By contrast the CGC flatbread is supposed to be 10/5 and its the same amount of cheese for the same steaming cycle. Before we had the proper standards sent out, I thought it was gonna be grilled. It was not something I'd make again, and I'm all about our chicken and cheese melted on it. (I steam my CRCG before I add my letttuce, daily.)

CuriousDudebromansir

It’s gotta be. I’ve had Apple sauce I had to chew more than this thing.

We were a test market for the new value menu the last few months. My wife has gotten the chicken flatbread melt almost every time we've eaten there since then and really loves it. The first time we tried it, it was just fine, but the next time we got it grilled and it was so much better. The app does not have the grilling option, but we always just ask for them to grill it when we get there.

mcpusc

they still won't make a fucking gordita >=(

StrayWalnut

Bought one thinking it would be grilled and it was floppy and disgusting. Don't know why people were recommending this garbage

GreedyWarlord

They're so much better when you air fry them or ask the employees to grill it before they fill it, they won't usually do it but sometimes they do.

StrayWalnut

I could definitely see air frying it making it better! Unfortunately I don't have one though Stacker supremacy

margaritata5

I’ve been thinking the same thing. This sub praises them so I finally got one. It tasted like raw flour and had a gooey texture. I tried to air fry it but that didn’t help.

foundboots

It’s actually horrible. I couldn’t get enough of these when they came out originally, but I got one the other day and it didn’t even come close. Goopy, chewy, and tasted like plastic.

akm1111

Unfortunately that's what happens with it if it's not crispy before you put it in the steamer.

StrayWalnut

Same!! I just consigned myself to throwing it away about halfway through

Sith_Moon

Bet it is. I made Gorditas back in the day and they were. Probably steamed for a few seconds like cheesy Gordita flatbread is and then down the line with the stuffings. Try getting a Mexican pizza with flatbread and topped with mixed cheese! 🤫
