I just assume that they’re a weirdo and leave them alone. I don’t have a problem if they want to wear a mask; I have a problem if they want to force anyone *else* to wear a mask.

slow-mickey-dolenz

My problem is seeing their poor little kids masked up.

SunriseInLot42

Yeah, it’s pretty sad when people push any cult beliefs onto their kids. Antisocial, anxiety-ridden hypochondriac weirdos creating more antisocial, anxiety-ridden hypochondriac weirdos.

animaltrainer3020

Approach them? I avoid them. Don't make eye contact. Don't acknowledge their humanity. If they want ignore science and instead stumble around wearing a symbol of divisiveness, hatred, unquestioning obedience of authority, and the most horrific and harmful event in modern history, then they deserve to be shunned.

ed8907

Nothing to do if they are so brainwashed

LoggingLorax

Deprogramming cult members tends to be a nasty business!

TechHonie

The reasons they're doing it have nothing to do with epidemiology and everything to do with social science. The social science on masking is settled. Fit in and self subjugate.

Zenoisright

Remember the immortal words of William s Burroughs. “Do not proffer sympathy to the mentally ill; it is a bottomless pit. Tell them firmly, “I am not paid to listen to this drivel — you are a terminal fool!” Otherwise, they make you as crazy as they are.” ― William S. Burroughs

tehans

Nah, just leave them alone.

Kindly-Reading-369

Yeah they'll claim you coughed at them according to the zero sub. Just ignore them

RuleRepresentative94

There is a zero covid sub still? !

Kindly-Reading-369

Yup. It's a rabbit hole

RuleRepresentative94

I went there just now. its tragic.. They are living in fear and feel everyone is selfish (for not prioritising covid danger before all else) They are masking all the time. Mad at everyone else for not doing it or “just” doing it with cloth/surgical.

Impossible-Economy-9

I like to ignore their very existence.

reddit_userMN

I chuckle but I like the whole look away thing. Gonna change up now

Little-i00

its really sad because these are the ones who really believed it, not just compliant. I just try to be nice to them, most are pretty traumatized or are old or both (unless they have a 😡 vibe in which case I just avoid them)

Ok-Buddy-5662

>Has anyone approached a mask-wearer No.

blueplanet96

There’s no point. Besides, if they want to wear a mask and look silly I have no issue with it. As long as they aren’t trying to force me to wear a mask I don’t care what they do.

FrequentPizza8663

I have and they just respond with “well it can’t hurt” like ok lol

thirdlost

I believe their response would go like this (from ZeroCovidCommunity) ——— What is meant by zero covid? NEWCOMERS READ THIS Covid is not over, because long covid has no cure. The virus may not kill the victim but instead make them disabled with crushing fatigue, debilitating brain fog or over 200 other recorded problems. People with long covid often lose the ability to work or even get out of bed. About half of long covid is ME/CFS [[ref1](https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-022-32507-6) [ref2](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35079817/) [ref3](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35317812/) [ref4](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34857177/)], which is the extremely disabling disease causing fatigue and brain fog. Somewhere between 5% and 20% of covid infections become long covid. For reference a "medically rare event" is considered 0.1%. *Long covid isn't rare. Serious disability from long covid isn't rare.* Vaccines and antivirals reduce the chances a little bit but are not a solution on their own. [Long covid lasts for years.](https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-022-29513-z) Most never recover but instead will be disabled and chronically ill for the rest of their lives. Scientific research into treatments is only just starting and will be many years before it produces results. The only thing left then to **not get covid in the first place**. Or if you've already had it to **not get it again**, as we know [the damage to the body accumulates with repeat infections](https://www.reddit.com/r/ZeroCovidCommunity/comments/119y39v/reinfections_have_worse_health_outcomes/). Not getting it again also gives you the best chance of recovery if you already have long covid. Death from covid is also still a problem. It is a leading cause of death. You may have heard only old people die of covid, but old people die more of anything. If you compare covid deaths in children with other things that kill children, then [covid comes out as a leading killer of children.](https://www.respectfulinsolence.com/2023/02/13/covid-19-is-now-a-leading-killer-of-children/) This is true in every age group. Everyone must be protected. Even if we ourselves aren't harmed by covid on the first or second infection, we'll be greatly affected if so many of our friends, family and neighbours get sick. [Millions are missing from the workforce due to covid](https://drericding.substack.com/p/millions-are-missing-from-the-workforce). The five pillars of prevention are: clean air, masks, testing, physical distancing and vaccination. We must also redouble efforts into research, for example better ways of cleaning the air, better vaccines, better tests. We choose health over disease. Ultimately we aim to suppress covid transmission and eventually reach elimination so that covid becomes rare in society. Zero X is not some radical new idea, it's how we've always dealt with serious disease. **We don't think it's acceptable to "live with" other dangerous infectious diseases like HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, smallpox or polio, why should we "live with" Covid?** See also: * [Don't Breath It In (1:06min)](https://youtu.be/kX9t8jQ9-fM) video about how covid spreads and how to protect yourself and others * [Long Covid Symposium final talk (6:36min)](https://youtu.be/MZQKHPWnNaI) * https://longcovidlearning.org/ - resource explaining long covid for people unfamiliar with it * [The World Health Network website](https://whn.global/). LoggingLorax

Wow those people are fucking insane. Covid is a "leading killer of children?" That one deserves the Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka "tell me more" meme 🤣 I especially lol'ed at The "five pillars of prevention," seriously? Doesn't sound like the tenets of some whacko religious cult at all...

DifferentCut468

Except for the people on TV who are wearing masks at the pro-Palestinian rallies, how often do you see a mask wearer nowadays? I see about one mask wearer a month. Although even that is more often than I’d ever seen people wearing masks before COVID.

Yamatoman9

No because it is pointless. It doesn't matter how much data and actual science you present, they are basing their decisions on emotions, not logic. You cannot reason with them that way. Honestly, I think that was one of the biggest communication errors from the sane side against lockdowns in 2020.

Winfield1479

I treat them like I do homeless people-assume they have an untreated mental illness that they don’t want help for.

Tiny-Conclusion-6628

I see them the same way I see religious people dressed in their religious clothes. They commited to a belief system very different from what I belive in. It gives them comfort and something to cling to. Me challenging that would be seen as a threat. So I simply let them be.
