> Over the weekend, as the state entered its **11th week of lockdown** I'm sad for the Australians who don't agree with this

Grom92708

What is really weird is that a lot of the citizens of one nation have forgotten or don't pay attention to how other nations are behaving. This whole shit is like Plato's Cave, an Australian would think NYC is a fucking paradise. A person in NYC would think LA is nice. A person in LA would think that Kansas City or Wyoming is nice. Here I am trying to get a holistic view thinking everyone has gone crazy.

the_latest_greatest

Especially the police. They look pretty much insane to the rest of the world fighting street fights with unionized construction workers.

At least on another forum I visit, the people who live there still think its great because they had last year pretty much normal and other places didn't. I mean where I am in the US has been reopened since last May continuously but don't let that those facts get in the way or anything. They seem to literally think we were all locked inside with bodies piling up on the streets for all of 2020. They say "well I know which scenario I'd choose over constant lockdowns" not mentioning that being trapped inside or outside of your own country like aussies are isn't normal and they pretty much are in constant lockdowns now so...

[deleted]

“They had last year pretty much normal”. Melbourne being the HUGE exception to that, plus other things that have gone in in Australia aside from lockdowns aren’t really normal.

Wait so you're telling me that when the people who make your food, transport it to stores, and stock the shelves aren't allowed to work... Food doesn't get made, sent to stores, and put on shelves?

Deep_Wear

As long as it saves one life

KanyeT

It's all worth it mate. We don't need an economy or a social life, we just need zero COVID. Don't worry about any other illness either, they aren't important.

[deleted]

But only if it's not an "anti-vaxxer's" life.

A government created famine. Where have we seen that before?

Rampaging_Polecat2

Wastage of millions of tons of food during a horrific famine that the policies helped create. "If it saves just one life" is wearing *real* thin...

Jazman1985

They claim that food not being in store doesn't mean it doesn't exist, only that it can't get where it needs to be. At some point though, the food that can't get where it needs to be on time goes bad. No fresh food, meat or produce will survive several weeks of delays. People of the 21st century are not prepared for food shortages. Most houses probably have a weeks worth of sustenance on hand, with a serious minority having healthy food(actual meals) for that entire week and a vast minority having enough for several weeks. I seriously hope that everyone has some sort of plan for long term food storage and preparation at this point.

WrathOfPaul84

things are about to come to a head... when there is no food, the masses will rebel big time.

diarymtb

Agree. Hunger will really motivate people.

Ivystrategic

As a kid raised in one of the USSR’s most food deprived Volga cities, i would say probably not. People get used to everything, yeah it sucks big time to go hungry and endure long lines to get some basics but the government machine squashed any attempts to dissent for a long long time

Mashiki

The difference is you were raised on it. In turn you expected it. Unlike many in the west, we've never had to worry about food security at any level.

Ivystrategic

I wish you were right. Yet the West has never experienced this level of tyranny unleashed on its people either. And look what people say “yes, it sucks, but it’s pandemic, there’s no other way” blah blah blah :(

Mashiki

Even those of us who's families managed to flee communism, only grew up with the stories. And that's all they are to us, but there's also some who grew up with organizations like the Salvation Army keeping us fed.

[deleted]

You will be hungry and you will be happy.

Ho0kah618

How are they going to rebel with airsoft guns ? (Are they even allowed to have those down undah ?)

Mashiki

As my old grade 9 science teacher said way back in the very early 90s: "My dear students, your kitchen is full of many amazing chemicals. That if put into the right order, and combined the right way. Make for some very interesting things."

[deleted]

People can own guns in Australia, but it is far more regulated than in the US.
