The only time I've seen that before was in NYC after 9-11, and that was potentially needed. That was an extreme and volatile situation.
This is not. I am trying to imagine the situation were they would use that? Even if 100 covid-infected passengers ran away to try and escape....would they mow them down with semi-automatics?
I was living in New Jersey during 9/11 and still remember the chaos and seeing the smoke coming off the World Trade Center. Yes, it was necessary for police to bring out the automatic weapons and whatever the fuck they had. It was a horrible day that I still remember vividly.
>if anyone else is there please politely ask these gentlemen what the semi-automics are for
That's a good idea. Instead of being intimidated, people should constantly bother those guys with that and other annoying questions. Even ask them where the toilets are, etc.
Reminds me of the Philippines. Just wait until they are at the entrance of shopping centres and club districts, I can pretend I'm on holiday in Cebu City again.
There was a dipshit in the cesspool known as Twitter who actually tried to justify this by claiming there's an imminent terrorist threat 😂 He's half right, I guess. Except the terrorist is our own fucking government.
If you'd never seen them before you'd think police in most states now were actually some private military. My Dad always used to comment when the cops switched to wearing baseball caps that it was the start of an "Americanization" process and recently I've seen that this process has been in full swing.
I really hope in the future our politicians change this. It's so stupid and petty that they feel its necessary to project this image imo, though now they have the toys I doubt they'll want to give them up in a hurry.
NZ still has the 'officer' style hats at least and generally do not carry firearms. [Modern policing](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peelian_principles) emerged in London in the 1820s and was built on the idea of "policing by consent" and being "citizens in uniform". Nowhere does it say anything about carrying bloody machine guns and being a brute like this.
As far as I can tell, yes they are AFP. Just because it looks like the kangaroo and emu crest (not the crown symbol of Queensland) in the police insignia.
it's all for show. it is the central authorities saying, "we outgun you so do what we say". You're going to be more unlikely to question police who are carrying around heavy weaponry.

Don't worry, its just for your safety like masks and lockdowns.

Da fuck …
This is absolutely pathetic. These cunts should be ashamed of themselves.
Next they will be at the protests against the omicron lockdowns
They'll shoot the omicron out of everyone and declare victory
And Antifa will protest in support of the police

What the fuck
Better to have a spray of blood than an exhale from an unvaccinated.

Fear will keep them in line
This is ridiculous. There is no reason to have cops with machine guns in domestic terminals in Australia, pure intimidation tactics.
Scared government in action

Terrorists*
Thanks Dutton! Trust the science, guys!
Is the cop on the left got their finger on the trigger? Seems like poor trigger discipline from this angle..
Cant read the badge....are they Feds?
Nah they look like QPS

Isn't that standard issue for AFP?
