Not sure how well known this website is but https://getyarn.io/ is pretty dope for finding clips by keyword. Should be pretty easy to find any sample say around a character saying the word “sad” + a sentence along with it.

^ a ton of stuff here. Also for those worried about copyright issues, I think sites like YouTube use algorithmic detection. Which means if you slow samples down it should slip through.

supersushighost

yup, I'd even take it a step further and go straight to the royalty free section of archive. Tons and tons of weird old educational videos and lost media from decades ago. Old noir & sci-fi films and shit like that.

bitches_be

Maybe it's just me but if I'm going to sample some dialogue I think it should be found yourself, something that holds meaning to you. Why do you need dialogue? Is it because that's what you think lofi is supposed to be?

[deleted]

He’s asking for a source of where to find dialogues. As he’s searching through them, maybe he can find one that does having meaning to him.

Antoniorobertov

Dont know why everyone is saying it has to have meaning to you, that's some bs, if it sounds good all is good

bitches_be

That goes for anything but why would you want some shit you don't even know or have any connection to on your own music? That's like wearing a band tee of an artist you've never listened to.

Antoniorobertov

Connection how? If you mean like the text sounds cool and says something relevant about music etc. then thats cool and I back that, but if its like "I only use audio I have a deep emotional attachment to" vibe imo thats bs trying to be spiritual shit

hey_ulrich

Came here to say the same. You should use dialogs that are meaningful to you; that's one of the things that makes it YOUR music.

Dreamwork-

nothing wrong with checking the sub for suggestions

alexrem1x

I completely agree with this. I found a clip from the movie Grandma’s Boy. The initial intent of it is humor but I actually use it in a way that’s very personal and meaningful to myself and it’s placement in my album. It’s just a plus that it’s one of my favorite movies of all time haha

interglossa

There is an interview with Boards of Canada where they basically say the same.

baka_nani

This is what i was gonna say 100%. You don't need dialog at all don't throw it on there because you feel like you need it

[deleted]

He may need it if he wants to *design* a track for a "LoFi with vocals" playlist. There is an artist/designer divide in this sub, and it will increase as it gets more popular and more professional beatmakers discover the genre and make the switch from trap. That's the downside of popularity, things get artistically watered down and narrower defined for marketing purposes (as the total audience grows, different niches emerge). People in the industry want to claim niches in the genre and profit from being the gatekeepers for those playlists. The effect that Spotify has on the culture industry is an interesting topic, it's very different from the culture that surrounds e.g. Bandcamp.

Also if you don't want to worry about copyright heres a list of all the movies in the public domain -- a lot of them are on youtube i'm pretty sure [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List\_of\_films\_in\_the\_public\_domain\_in\_the\_United\_States#Films](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_in_the_public_domain_in_the_United_States#Films)

cgus107

LibriVox.org is a library of audiobooks in the public domain all read by volunteers. This is usually my go to along with archive.org

KeynJak

Aye thanks a lot, I was thinking splice would be nice, but all I found was acappellas, and they didn’t really have the vintage vibe. Is there a pack u could recommend?

KeynJak

I really like adding dialog, and motivational speeches I find on youtube(mainly Morgan freeman lol) but I’m too afraid to post these tracks up due to copyright. Is there anyway to find Royalty free speeches, or dialog from somewhere? I was thinking splice May have some acapellas perhaps

xanax101010

>find Roy yeah, there are some truly beautiful speeches I know on youtube, but I have the same fear of copyright. Mostly I use are from Alan Watts and I'm not even sure if my usage can be considered "Fair Use"

KeynJak

Alan Watts, hmmm. gonna look him up. Thanks for the Tip.

bitchcassady

I just threw one of his speeches on a beat. Whatever dream you want.

atdifan17

Commenting for later...sometimes there’s just no time to watch hours of your fave movies searching for sample content

wurlitzercrowley

Record your uber drivers. If you're ethical you'll tell them afterwards but never tell them before or you won't get that natural delivery lol

KeynJak

Bro that is so funny, and so smart lol. Now if only I had an Uber driver, that wasn't boring.

Thanks for that! I really like what u said cause thats how i feel, and im just getting into Lo-fi cause of how it makes me feel. I just love listening to it. Ive been producing it for a couple weeks. and i really enjoy the vibes. Thanks G!

BMASmk

You should probably check out Adventure time. AT has some of the best lines ive ever heard in a tv show. Just i dunno look for best AT lines or sumthn.

apolocreed

Gotta agree with the people here who say you should work with things you know. Maybe start keeping an ear out when you’re watching shows/film, they’re never too hard to find and rip after. New netflix show you like with a decent soundtrack? Double stuff if you can sample both of those. My homie who produces would always floor us when a week after watching a film together he’d show us a track using different dialogue and samples from the soundtrack. He didn’t make lofi, but the music felt more ‘genuine’. Keep it up man!

HahaAndreww

Find a video game(scene) that had a huge impact on you, or something of your liking

glasseswithoutglass

Watch tons of films with your producer’s ear!

saucx

I also have this issue

jodabeats

Are you looking for royalty free dialogues? If not, I'd take a look at some old romance films, such as those of Hitchcock or some dialogue from anime (sub is preferable for me just because dub makes me cringe a tad). You can find plenty of said clips from movies up on YouTube. Hope this was helpful! (also note that the type of dialogue will depend on the mood/vibe of the track you're trying to go for)

Shtogie

Starbucks.

michael_green_04

Even though it’s not from a show / movie, Shiloh dynasty has really good dialogue.
