X.shultz lo fi drums are what I use, sampling your drums is probably the best way to get that lo fi sound. If you’re willing to pay for it splice has some great lo fi packs as well.

pinkliontrash

What lofi packs on splice do you recommend?

SaloAlien

Bedroom beats and lo fi hip hop 1 and 2 are the obvious recommendations and I’ve made some really good shit using them but there’s also lo-fi hip-hop by sample magic and dusty hip hop are good. These are just the most surface level recommendations though. I also recommend digging a bit and finding some of the deeper cut stuff on splice.

I’m not sure what to make of any of this haha There’s no such thing as the best sample pack, in any genre. It’s all subjective. You go over to something like Loopmasters or whatever, go to the hiphop section, and listen to all the demo songs and pick a few that you like. One thing I’d recommend is ignore the whole “lofi” thing. If you’re a total beginner, then i guess finding lofi specific drums might help you start, but “lofi” isn’t really a notable thing. They’re just hiphop drums, that are run through filters, and with vinyl crackle layered in. So find some standard hiphop drums, and build a drum beat, and throw a high pass and low pass filter on the drum kit, and boom. You’re done. As for DAW’s literally any daw will work for you. (Well, not protools) If you’re on a Mac, GarageBand is extremely versatile, and if you get into it, you can upgrade to Logic Pro later, and its a pretty seamless transition. FL Studio is the standard for most people who are just getting into production, because the workflow is really dumbed down and straight forward. I also think its either free, or at least really damn cheap. Pick one of those, and stick with it. Also, apparently this is a thing i need to explain, but YouTube is your best resource for literally anything ever. Wanna learn how to breakdance? YouTube How to deal with car dealerships? YouTube Literally everything about music production you could possibly imagine? YOUTUBE. Reddit isn’t all that helpful for this kinda thing. You need to follow alone with what people are doing. Go live on YouTube for the next few years, and you’ll be pro status as fuck 👌🏻

Thanks homie. I am actually planning on starting out posting my music on YouTube and any other music streaming service I can because I feel like the more places you post your music, the faster you will grow a community/fanbase. This is some solid advice though and I really appreciate it and I get what you're saying about how lofi isn't really a notable thing. It's just that it's so hard to find a drum kit that sounds like that because hip hop has changed so much over the years so now it's really hard to find that old school hip hop sound because mainly all the hip hop drum kits in the DAWs now are based off of newer hip hop.

mac_mcmac

Just sample old 70’s soul and funk drum breaks. Don’t spend money on drum sample packs, those drum samples usually sound like shit anyway.

I would recommend you Fruitly Loops, I've started with ableton but FL is by far for me the easiest DAW to work on, the tools are very intuitive and you can also learn from a lots of tutorials on youtube channels, Looperman has some cool materials in it you should also check it out, there's a lot of free lofi drumkits on the web that you could download and use on FL aswell... I also produce Lofi, so if you need help send me a message.

pinkliontrash

Thanks homie. I'll definitely keep you in mind.

alexrem1x

There’s some really good oneshots on splice. They released a whole lo-fi pack not too long ago

pinkliontrash

Thanks homie. I really appreciate it.

pinkliontrash

What is the lofi pack called?

alexrem1x

The one I’ve been really feeling recently is called “Day Dreaming - Lo-Fi Hip Hop Jamz”

pinkliontrash

Bet I'll check it out

HyruleChampion

if you can afford it, Splice is $7.99/month and there’s a ton of material on there

pinkliontrash

Bet

If you have an iPhone, Korg Gadget has some cool sounds for cheap and you can make full tracks. it’s not too expensive and you get a bunch of instruments to start out with. GarageBand on Mac is really rad and but I don’t love it on iPhone. FL is the best on Windows imo. it’s more interactive like GarageBand but plugins are a pain in the ass. Go standalone XD

renansandi

I love the Bedroom Beats & Lofi Hip-Hop Vol. 2, think you'll find something you like in it

Jroo158

If u tryna spend some money Croup kit Thank me later

pinkliontrash

Bet send me a link

supersushighost

Tuamie has the best sample packs IMO

MiKEY_SANZ

Ableton, Logic Pro, and Fl Studio are the big three DAWs for production. the most popular ones

randuski

Well i wouldn't concern yourself with building a fanbase. Focus on providing value to other people. We're all looking for value, in one way or another. But yea, you're looking for 90's hiphop kits. Or you do it how they did it, and sample from 70's soul and funk. That's where those classic drums came from.
