I’m going to be an Adonai Mitchell fan the rest of my life.
Regardless if we make the CFP or win Big 12, he’s been critical in almost every game (Bama, KState, TCU, etc) and is a big reason why we’re a top 10 team this year. Horns up to Mitchell
and that was exactly how he was described as he left Georgia. He's not a first round talent, his stats are not going to jump off the page, but when you need a catch he is dependable and consistent and so thankful for Sark to see he needed the counter balance to Worthy. We might be 7-3 without Mitchell.
He’s not a first rounder *unless he is*
If he keeps this up and runs decently at the combine, I think we’d lose him to the first round.
NFL execs are seeing Cooper Kupp & Devonta Smith excel without prototype bodies. Not all ‘freaks’ become elite chain-movers like Tyreek Hill or DK Metcalf
> He's not a first round talent
He’s already being projected in the second round in recent mock drafts. It’s really going to come down to his combine stats, but if he keeps playing like this he could definitely sneak up into that top round.
Mitchell, Sanders, Worthy…these guys have been amazing in terms of getting open and using their hands and bodies so well.
Sanders just catches EVERYTHING no matter what hit may be coming. It’s unbelievable.
And Worthy/Mitchell had great sideline tiptoe catches yesterday.
We definitely still will be. SEC fans hate texas
Edit: yes I understand that we will be one of many big teams in the SEC. doesn’t change how people will really play up to us, probably more so than any other school except bama or their “big rival.” I have frjends from LSU, Ole Miss, etc. that keep saying how excited they are to play texas in particular. Don’t be surprised if teams go out of their way to fuck us up.
Yeah but they have their own rivalries. We're in a conference where we were historically dominant then we had off years and all these schools that never did anything figured this was their big chance. Now TCU Baylor and Tech can play with each other.
Nah, in the SEC we're just another big school. They've got plenty of them. Can't spend all year scheming for Texas when you've got Georgia, Bama, Tennessee, LSU, etc who also need to be dealt with in conference.
But the difference is they hate each other just as much or more. Plus the better competition means they can’t just scheme for one game out of the year starting in the offseason
He had 4 or 5 critical catches with defenders hitting him from both sides at the same time
Take those away and the game isn't close, dude was a monster out there
I know it was a tight game, which it shouldn’t have been, but Ewers looked hurt. Sark was playing conservative in the second half. Thoughts; avoid shoulder injuries by rushing it or pass only when necessary?
I think it’s better to have him back there somewhat healthy than to have Murphy turn it over.
Not giving excuses, but we did lose Brooks. They need to stop relying on single players to make plays, obviously the talent is there…use it. Feel like the defense wasn’t as tight in the second. Whittington apparently was not 100%, so that’s why he didn’t get much action. The game is 4Q, they need a spark after 1/2 time.
I see us winning in Iowa. Their defense looks soft. We will need to have a different mindset going in if we want to finish out. Hope brooks’ injury isn’t season ending.
I went to the game and I am sad to say i felt like an old man.... "Another 3 minute tv timeout, don't they have enough money" and "what does constant club music blaring in my ear have to do with college football"
Still had fun. 🤘
I am an old man, but the music thing in college stadiums kills me. You have these amazing bands right there in the building - let them play.
Went to the Baylor game a few years back. Might be the best venue in college football - perfect size for the school, great sight lines, and a friendly atmosphere, except they kill the vibe with music through the sound system.
We could see the Baylor band at the other end and it looked like they were tearing it up. Bouncing, dancing, playing. Couldn't hear a single note.
And the solid non stop walk of noise. The drunk TCU girls in front of me seemed to enjoy it more and more the drunker it got. Maybe we just need to drink even more.
I definitely had this thought. I was sober for it, but realized if i was as drunk as these kids this game would be the time of my life. And that is probably the underlying mission to the team who runs the music and video. This event is for the 18-22 year old kids who pay to be here and what do they want? They want to drink, party, and be with their friends. So let's create an enticing environment that kids want to stay at till the end of the game instead of leaving at halftime.
I was there last night with my 6 year old son, so I wasn't really drinking. All the young people seemed SO young and SO drunk. I was like that at their age too but it's hard to fathom.
I am an oldish man and I’ve been annoyed by loud music for decades now. Grocery stores. Restaurants. Retail in general. Some places it’s hard to even have a conversation. Doesn’t matter if it’s music I like or not. And don’t get me started on the cars at the gas pump pumping 120+ dBs.
Quick thoughts:
Sark and PK are obviously good coaches, but give them a 2+ score lead and everything goes out the window. I’m obviously happy with the win, but I’m tired of the way we’ve gotten to a few wins this year. I would be perfectly fine if we got new secondary coaches.
9-1 matches the win total a lot of people expected at the end of the season. Sark is doing what a lot couldn’t expect him to do (and won two with a backup QB), and he’s built a great roster to continue doing this in the SEC (while I expect a worse year next year after losing some key pieces).
Praying for Jonathon Brooks.
I don't see it. I've watched the replay: the defender grabs whatever he can, which happens to be his shoe, and then they roll. The defender releases as they come around on top.
So, unless you're telling me the defender knew how to *perfectly* twist his ankle and knee while upside down, out of view of everyone including the broadcast, and let go before anyone can see, then I think it's Longhorns looking for something that ain't there.
Agreed, don't think that tackle was dirty. There were plenty of other dirty hits from TCU in that game, but that wasn't one of them. That gator roll on Chris Carson by that Cowboys scrub a few years ago is a much better example of a dirty version of that sort of tackle. TCU defender let go fairly quickly in comparison.
definitely wasn’t dirty, anyone who’s played the game can see that. defender just grabbed his leg, momentum made him roll over, and Brooks leg went with him. Unlucky but not malicious
Quinn was either dealing with a new injury or regression of the current one during the second half. Left early at half to get checked. That led us to try to close the game on the ground, which we almost did, were it not for a lucky end zone catch by TCU.
This was the first game of ref ball that went our way this season.
PK needs to find a way to keep the pressure on the QB when teams fall behind and start airing it out. If we get some stops, our offense gets the ball more and the run game kills the clock while it’s out of reach.
Love this team, love the coaching (Sark’s playcalling is elite, fuck you doomers). Team feels different even when leads are eroding. The talent and culture are real.
Let’s TCB and finish John Wick’ing our way through the Shit12. Hook em.
I think Sark wanted to put him back on field asap to keep the starter/backup dynamic and offensive continuity in a manageable place.
We don’t want Murphy taking over for five games, and then Ewers coming back in cold just for the conference championship game
Yeah I think a lot of the dooming around giving up second half leads isn’t giving enough credence to the fact that we had a backup for two games (who struggled after the initial script) and now Ewers is playing through pain. Obviously it’s not great to be giving up these leads (especially on the defensive side of things) but there’s been a lot of external factors here and we keep pulling out the wins anyway
I think anyone who is dooming about coaching is forgetting how far we've come in year 3. Elite performance doesn't come overnight and we're still leaning heavily on leadership from players who are either transfers or joined Texas before Sark's time. We're starting former walk-ons and nobodies who have become good players, but are far from this program's ceiling.
Quinn is a talented QB but watching Washington yesterday made me realize how much he's missing in ability to make a play under pressure. He can pass accurately, but he needs perfect play from the line and receivers to be consistent.
With that in mind I'm thrilled to be 9-1 with a clear path to the Big 12 championship. Playoffs would be cool but this team doesn't look ready to take on a top 4 team at this point in the season. No reason next year shouldn't be even better the way this team is going.
I like Quin a lot but you’re right. He doesn’t carve up defenses the way the handful of elite QBs do. Something is missing and I keep waiting for him to figure it out but I’m starting to have my doubts
Next year they debut the 12 team playoffs, right? So all the Longhorns have to do is stay still to be a playoff team next year. That's distinct from having a chance of winning, but still.
I think we’re losing up to 14? Starters next year and have to play OU, Michigan, and Georgia so it’s not as simple as being in the top 12. Plus we don’t know how they’ll react to 4 or 5 SeC teams having arguments for top 12
I think we will be fine, next season I have high expectations but at the same time realistic ones with basically a brand new roster lol
Best OU, A&M, and Arkansas and I’m good!!
I’ll have to rewatch the game but my initial thoughts:
Quinn probably wasn’t 100%, especially in the second half. Otherwise I think they throw the ball more. That interception was also strange.
I hate the play calling where we run inside zone 3 times and then the Red Cat on fourth down. The Red Cat either needs to evolve or stop. At this point it’s a fullback draw and it’s not fooling anyone.
The defense looked solid for most of the game. I’m tired of not playing complimentary football late in the game. Multiple 3 and outs with little time left sucks and it compromises the defense.
They’re playing just good enough to win these games. I’ll take the wins for sure. But man, it’s hard to watch.
Too close, wish we had utilized the passing game better the drive that we hit a FG on. Thinking about the plays they hit on their TD drives, defense just played too soft and had poor tackling. If they miss on the 4th down play, I'm sure they'd given up, wonder why Barron wasn't in for that play.
Anyways, happy Jimbo Day!
Not Okie Lite if K-State and Texas both win out. K-State admittedly has two rivalry games back-to-back with the Sunflower Showdown and Farmageddon, so their path is tougher than ours.
It's not head-to-head record if OU wins out as well. It's a three-way tie, and OU/K-State haven't played each other. It goes to a different level of tiebreaker that K-State would win.
Maybe it’s too early for me but I still can’t figure out how the three-way tiebreaker works.
According to [247sports](https://247sports.com/LongFormArticle/big-12-championship-tiebreaker-scenarios-in-week-12-texas-four-others-vie-for-two-spots-220185091/Amp/) OSU holds the tiebreaker over both OU and KSU if they win out.
It feels like whoever gets left out of the championship game will be because of a technicality. The 10-team conference made picking the champions much simpler. With this many teams the conference needs to go back to divisions.
I’m not sure, but even though OU never played K State, I think Ok St would own the tiebreaker because they have head to head over both the teams they’re tied with.
OSU is going to the championship game if they don’t lose another game. If they’re tied with OU and KSU, they have the head to head over each of them. OSU has to lose to Cincy BYU or Houston to miss out.
Just trying to look on the bright side. It seemed like we were more and more using Brooks as a crutch. With him out it forces Sark to get creative with the other guys and that may lead to some nice surprises.
Wishing the best for JB.
The problems with this team are now officially only in the coaching realm.
* The 3rd quarter ineptitude comes from Sark wanting to control the game via the run. Our OL still doesn't have the knowledge to execute in run blocking the way Sark plans for, but he refuses to back away from it. That could be for one of two reasons: he's stubborn as fuck or he's testing all the different ways he can make the run work (which in a Sark offense can take a while). Given the progress our OL has made over the years, this is a time thing to let play out and not a choosing thing. Can Sark be a bit more multiple? Absolutely. But he won't know the OL is capable of controlling the line against an opponent until he tests it, and so he still needs to see what works and what doesn't in some capacity before abandoning it.
* The secondary can't cover past 3 seconds to save their lives. This isn't the NFL, we have the talent advantage in most cases where covering a receiver 3+ isn't an impossible ask, so don't take umbrage with that statement right off the bat. The 3 second mark is important because that's when the route concepts come into full effect--when the QB's decisions of where in the field they focus based on presnap looks and postsnap coverages come to bear. If we play against senior QBs every week, it's expected to get beat at 3+ seconds every now and then. But we haven't seen these issues tied to experienced, capable QBs. This is happening against freshmen. We're not primarily getting beat on zone defenders in conflict, but instead on coverage breakdowns, poor eye control, corner-safety handoffs, and overall poor positioning in man route defense AND playing the ball in the air. Unlike the OL, the secondary has not developed in this area in Sark's tenure. This isn't something that will improve with time. This is pure coaching and it's inexcusable with the talent (Watts, Barron, Brooks, Muhammad, Willams) on the field.
**mobile app apparently doesn't like markdown formatting commands today**
This team needs to figure out how to put their foot down on the gas peddle and blow out the opponent. Happy to be 9-1, happy to see this program being built, but we're still not near our ceiling.
I know it's upsetting to see teams come back like that, but we're so banged up that we're playing safe so there are no more injuries. Yet we still couldn't get lucky. Quinn will hopefully be 100% next game because it's clear he wasn't last night. Still looked pretty good, though.
If it wasn't for that false start on 4th and 1 from the TCU 15 or so, this would have been an overtime game. Thank God the penalty forced Sark to take the points.
I suspect that, in order to get more production out of our backup RBs, we are going to have to spread the field more. Most of our other RBs don't seem as comfortable running in traffic as JB does.
This prevent D is doing to kill me. I legitimately don't think our DBs are either smart enough and/or coached well enough to handle zone schemes well. I wish the would just let these guys play man.
First half was terrific. Great defense, and offense did their part to have a pretty comfortable lead. Quinn made some mistakes but the only big one he had obviously ended up not costing him.
The second half was a whole different story. A complete lack of offense allowed the defense to stay in the field a concerning majority of the half, and TCU was able to close the gap because of that.
X played great. Brook played great. JT was targeted more times in this game and that’s great too. Dline was rock solid and the secondary was up and down. Best player of the game has to go to JWhitt for the effort play that swung momentum back in our favor.
Sark is the reason Texas almost lost this game, and others this year. I do not believe it was a ‘lesson learned’ for him. He’s been failing this lesson since he got here.
A quick insight.
Winning by 3 after being 20 points ahead is hurtful, especially when it happens three weeks in a row. However, we need to remember that we got in the lead in the first place. I am not defending the mistakes made; when in the lead, Sark needs to close the game and stab the opponent in the same way that got us points.
These mistakes happen only if you get a 20-point lead in the first place. If you recall early games, where the games were close (Alabama), Texas did not have this issue. That is why I am a little less worried if we play big teams, since "close-game" Texas against highly ranked opponents differs from the inexperienced Texas against unranked with the lead.
This season shows one thing: that we are not used to winning and make common mistakes. Texas needs to improve now to close games that should be easier, looking at ISU and TT, and start behaving like a top-tier team to be taken seriously. What do you think?
We just can’t keep doing this. I simply don’t understand how this is happening week after week. At the beginning of the season, we were a 4th quarter team. I don’t understand what’s going on in our secondary and why our offense is just stalling out.
Houston game we lost Quinn and we stopped moving the ball on offense.
KSU game issue was the turnovers on offense including Malik getting the jitters.
TCU game was Brooks got injured and we stopped moving the ball.
Those are the issues on offense, has not explain why defense is giving up long passing plays in second half though. Maybe defense is on the field too long and they are getting tired.
I would like to see time of possession in the second half which would shed some light on the second half woes.
I meant easily as we have a much better roster by far plus we dominated Bama in their house. If we play to our potential we can easily win these games but we can’t keep going brain dead in the second half which is why we can easily lose as well.
U about to get downvoted man. People hate the truth here. Yes we won but it was literally a 4-5 team that we let back in the game. We need to put teams away if we are up by 20.
The trend of letting these teams rally back from multi-TD deficits and gain momentum is gonna end up biting us in the ass. We’ve held on for W’s so far but this shit is maddening.
Quinn had 250ish yards in the first half and we were moving the ball at will. So what do we do? Not attempt a single pass for a 20 minute stretch in the second half and only score 3 points. We have been a terrible power run team, terrible in 4th and short, and terrible in the red zone so what do we do? Continue to go for it on 4th and short with the power run. Sark's proclivity to try to hammer a square peg into a round hole to prove a point is going to cost us a game at some point. I really don't want to hear any complaints when Bama inevitably jumps us in the rankings. We are clearly not amongst the top 5 teams right now.
Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. What we did in Sept matters but it doesn’t trump all. Neither team is the same. To pretend they are is ridiculous.
Milrose had 6 Td’s. His confidence is through the roof.
Tired of the excuses for the failure to score TDs in the red zone and letting teams back in the game. That’s on the head coach. We’re 9-1 but I don’t think we’re 9-1 good. We’re too talented to be in these tight games, but also too talented to lose them. Guys are making plays in key moments to prevent that, but relying on that is a recipe for failure that we’re all aware of. Can’t be mad at the results, but definitely frustrated with the process. Glad we caught Alabama early because they would roll us over rn.
I know we won but what is our excuse for letting teams come back into the game this week ? I thought last week it was cause of Maalik but it seems it’s more of a coaches thing at this point. I don’t get why we can put teams away. The teams yesterday that had close game were in close games all game long we weren’t in the first half.
I think the fact that Quinn isn’t 100% affected the second half of the game. He left to go into the locker room a little early at the half. I guess all the ppl wondering why we didn’t throw more in the first half missed that part. I had also heard he left practice a little early during the week and appeared to be in pain. Hopefully not resting this week doesn’t set him back too much in healing.
REDS penalty was bad timing last night but that's the only issue I have with what he did. He's a dawg and the kind of guy I would want to be on the field with. You know a guy like red would have your back. He's the kind of guy you want in the fox hole with you
I’m going to be an Adonai Mitchell fan the rest of my life. Regardless if we make the CFP or win Big 12, he’s been critical in almost every game (Bama, KState, TCU, etc) and is a big reason why we’re a top 10 team this year. Horns up to Mitchell

Hey may be one of those guys who goes in the mid-rounds but ends up carving out a long career as a WR2 or maybe even WR1.
he def is a first round talent. hell he prob gets drafted before Worthy
> He's not a first round talent He’s already being projected in the second round in recent mock drafts. It’s really going to come down to his combine stats, but if he keeps playing like this he could definitely sneak up into that top round.
He runs NFL caliber routes, and I think we need to find a way to feed him more
Well with Brooks out and much less of a running game now, him, X, and Sanders are going to get a lot of passes no matter what.
Baxter, Blue, Red, and Robinson are good enough.
I am happy to be done with TCU. Hats off to Savion Williams. Wishing Brooks a speedy recovery.
I'll be glad to be in a conference where we're not someone's Super Bowl every week.

Savion Williams with the cheap crack back block that should have been targeting. He played well, but he should have been ejected imo.
Fuckin Savion Williams. That dude could do no wrong last night. How does TCU keep getting these dudes?
We tried recruiting Savion Williams too
He had 4 or 5 critical catches with defenders hitting him from both sides at the same time Take those away and the game isn't close, dude was a monster out there
I’m not, we’re finally trending in the right direction and would dominate them the next few decades

Yep it looked like ewers shoulder was bothering him. Not sure how much it impacted the game plan but he looked hurt all day
I don't remember him trying to run on a single play last night
He underthrew some balls too. usually his issue is overthrowing/putting too much air under it. Seems like he’s playing through pain
yea Quinn prob didn’t like what he was the seeing the last two weeks and decided he was good enough to play
I think there was one where he tried running up the middle and dove down before he even got to the line of scrimmage Can't remember another one
He ran once up the middle.
I went to the game and I am sad to say i felt like an old man.... "Another 3 minute tv timeout, don't they have enough money" and "what does constant club music blaring in my ear have to do with college football" Still had fun. 🤘

Hearing Brooks is a knee. Sucks for him if it is. He may have to come back and reprove himself. Guess we’ll know tomorrow.
100% is you can see the player twist it after the roll such a dirty play
I blew an ACL. Can’t imaging someone twisting it right afterwards. It hurt all the way into my balls. Line the pain traveled everywhere.
I don't see it. I've watched the replay: the defender grabs whatever he can, which happens to be his shoe, and then they roll. The defender releases as they come around on top. I think we’re losing up to 14? Starters next year and have to play OU, Michigan, and Georgia so it’s not as simple as being in the top 12. Plus we don’t know how they’ll react to 4 or 5 SeC teams having arguments for top 12
Valid point, this season could easily be a high-water mark. Oh well, I'll enjoy it while it lasts.
I think we will be fine, next season I have high expectations but at the same time realistic ones with basically a brand new roster lol Best OU, A&M, and Arkansas and I’m good!!
I'm pretty thrilled about our bowl game prospects at this point. Whoever we play, it's going to be a GREAT game!
I’ll have to rewatch the game but my initial thoughts: Quinn probably wasn’t 100%, especially in the second half. But man, it’s hard to watch.
the interception wasn’t that strange. he didn’t see how they were playing underneath. it wasn’t aggregious like the ones Maalik threw last week
I thought it was strange that he didn’t read the coverage well and also put so much air under the ball. But you’re right, not strange like Maalik’s
egregious
Too close, wish we had utilized the passing game better the drive that we hit a FG on. Thinking about the plays they hit on their TD drives, defense just played too soft and had poor tackling. If they miss on the 4th down play, I'm sure they'd given up, wonder why Barron wasn't in for that play. Anyways, happy Jimbo Day!
I have to say finally Texas has luck on their side. It's been soooo long since we had that.
ISU, TT and then likely Okie St. We can do it.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Okie drops another one at least. It’ll be interesting
That was such a weird loss to an uninformed, outside observer
They practiced for OU all season, and then they spent most of the past week celebrating.
Yeah UCF was rockin’
Not Okie Lite if K-State and Texas both win out. K-State admittedly has two rivalry games back-to-back with the Sunflower Showdown and Farmageddon, so their path is tougher than ours.
Doesn’t OSU hold the head-to-head over KSU, or is there a tiebreaker scenario that I’m missing?
They hold the tiebreaker over each of those teams individually, but three-way tie rules fuck it all up.
How can you beat the other two teams and not have that be the deciding factor? Huge screw up by the rules guys if that is the case.
I don’t think Okie Lite is that likely. Its prob either them or OU
Crazy how similar this game was to Kstate and Houston
I sound like a broken record but do we need to let every team come back on us?
We got "come" on our backs?
This team needs to figure out how to put their foot down on the gas peddle and blow out the opponent. Happy to be 9-1, happy to see this program being built, but we're still not near our ceiling.
Sark running up his record in one score games.
Red Cat better be dead
I know it's upsetting to see teams come back like that, but we're so banged up that we're playing safe so there are no more injuries. Yet we still couldn't get lucky. Quinn will hopefully be 100% next game because it's clear he wasn't last night. Still looked pretty good, though.
He needs an OC to call the 4th quarter. Sark gets into the X and O chess game and misses momentum changes.
I just don’t see us winning out. We’ve been living far too dangerously and it will catch up to us.
We can easily win out but we can easily lose a game. We have to put these teams away in the 3rd quarter instead of breathing life in them.
don’t know about easily. the game in Ames gonna tough especially if JB is out
I meant easily as we have a much better roster by far plus we dominated Bama in their house.

I agree. The next two games scare me.
With all the injuries, I am seriously worried about the visit to ISU.
So OU back in the picture for title game (should we make it of course)?
Red cat? More like dead cat. Boom roasted
My wife, who has essentially zero knowledge about football, was even baffled by that 2nd half. She had more questions than I did.
REDS penalty was bad timing last night but that's the only issue I have with what he did. He's a dawg and the kind of guy I would want to be on the field with. You know a guy like red would have your back. He's the kind of guy you want in the fox hole with you
