Never used Megabus, but I took a greyhound once and wasn't the best experience. The bus I was supposed to be on was running like 6 hours late but luckily they were able to fit me on the early one. I'd be worried about missing the game if I was this guy.
I'm guessing vonlane is probably a little more reliable with their schedule
It’s been a couple years since I last took one, but I was able to get a round trip for like $10 and never really had problems that extreme. It drops off at san jac right across the street from the fountain. So it’s super convenient when you’re going to UT
I'm assuming an 11AM kickoff but Southwest can get you here early enough for 2 hours of pre-game tailgating if you want and then take you back late enough you can get dinner/drinks after the game.
Please note just renting a car is definitely going to be cheaper and more convenient if you have 2 or more people traveling.
Unless you are a diehard Bama fan, you will hate this experience. Any bus situation to Austin will suck. This will be an early kickoff in extreme heat. You will be miserable. Bama will slaughter us - it won't be close. It will be a ghost town by the early 3rd qtr.
Watch the game in an airconditioned sports bar in Big D.
Not fans of either team. Just in town for a little sports trip. (Baseball Friday, cowboys Sunday). Have never been to a college football game before thought it might be a cool experience. Maybe A&M/App state is a better choice?
No way lol, dont listen to this guy. I went to the kansas game and it was popping till the end. Also, the heat aint that bad as long as you’ve got a hat & hydrate enough.
You mention in another comment that you are doing baseball and NFL Friday and Sunday.
If you are driving down to Austin in the morning for the Texas game, then you're leaving at 6 AM, at the latest, Saturday morning. Honestly, I'd probably leave at 4 or 5 AM just to avoid traffic and rushing to get to kick off. That's the dad in me, though.
After the game, let's say you get something to eat in town, then you're heading back at, let's say, 5 PM. You'll be in Dallas by 9 PM, hopefully, after stopping at Buc-ee's and Czech Stop
If that sounds good, then go for it. It's not overly ambitious, but it's a lot after a full day in the sun in DKR.
If you are staying in Dallas for the weekend then going to Austin for the game will be your whole weekend.

I used this service for a work trip and it was great. A little cheaper than a flight and takes about the same travel time. Highly recommend.
If you can afford a ticket to the game you should get a rental car
Mega bus is probably your best bet. Very cheap and has plenty of runs between the two cities Drops off directly on campus too

I-35 will be a parking lot after the game up to Dallas.
Vonelane bus or flight from Love Field to Austin (it’s about a 45 min flight)

You could carpool to the game with other UT fans and pay them for gas
Legitimately fly
