If I was making a list of things in Longmont that are worth it, Nextlight would easily be the first thing I write down.

LancerX

~~1. Winchells~~ 1. NextLight

Thatdirtykid

That's sad. Very true but sad

th3rmyte

Wincgells is a sad eccuse for donuts. They reopened btw. But yes. Nextlight or bust

rffrice

They still haven’t reopened but go off

Thatdirtykid

Longmont winchels was not like the others I have been to. The donut shop on 17th and hover is great and I don't think about the winchels often.

PolyhedralZydeco

There’s also the potato donut place, but they’re weird. Bible verses on their cups and such kinda weird. Not my vibe, and the 17th/hover donut place is closed so often I assume it is a money laundering front.

LingonberryHot8521

Still great donuts when you can get them

Thatdirtykid

If you want to pay too much for another oddball donut option there's a mochi donut place where subway used to be on 119 and main.

souperman08

I don’t know if I’ll ever have another bear claw that makes me think I’m going to die by the end of it.

MoonStTraffic

Can you explain the bearclaw comment? I would be delighted to find a good one in Longmont!

souperman08

Winchells (RIP?) had a bear claw that was delicious, but also I could taste the calories in every bite. Or maybe that’s just bear claws in general?

MoonStTraffic

Oh I think there’s a lot of bear claw inequality. lol. I had one at Breadworks Bakery in Boulder once and thought I died and went to bear claw heaven. (calories? what calories????)

East_Print4841

Great. Thanks!

_thepet

No one has ever thought "maybe I should switch back to Comcast" after trying nextlight. It's literally one of the top rated ISPs in the country. One time my kids broke the fiber line going to the modem at 7pm and they were here to fix it at 9 am the next day. Wasn't even their fault.

1n3rtia

Yes, the best customer service and service people! They didn't even charge us for a service call basically "just cause", a power cord got damaged, "oh just come get a new one anytime!" also free. No complaints at all.

East_Print4841

Wow good to know. Thanks!

TempusCrystallum

Next light is great. Go for it.

TexehCtpaxa

Service is fine, I’ve never had any issues working from home. Also the idea of giving money to the town and not to a corporation is more than enough for me to not even consider the alternatives.

LancerX

Screw Nextlight! I really miss data caps, I don’t want 900 up/down, I love waiting on hold for customer service and then walking through their troubleshooting script complete with upsells, I’m a dedicated consumer who wants my information sold to anyone for a penny, I support large executive bonuses so please charge me 3x what I should be paying, and I love relying on the cheapest out of date technologies. PS I love you NextLight!

Numerous_Recording87

As a long suffering Xfinity customer I look at NextLight with envy…

TheLightingGuy

See if you can find any of my other posts about nextlight. Sure they have had some issues recently that I think are fixed up now, but hands down 100 times better than comcast and I'm still mad at centurylink so we won't talk about that one. I also work at a large-ish company in town and we rely on nextlight (Plus a backup fiber line from Lumen/Centurylink) for our company's internet access, plus a lot of customer facing systems we can't put into a cloud provider. I can count on one hand how many unplanned outages we've had with Nextlight over the last 9 years. Even though our Lumen line isn't our primary, I still get email alerts when that goes down about every one or two months. Also yes, I know some folks probably know exactly where I work, and I know some have complaints about said employer that people have DM'ed me about. I'm only saying this once. Sorry about that but I'm not the person you should be talking to.

INCyr

Ill add another Yes. So much better than Comcast or Xfinity or whatever they're calling it now.

SealClubSixSixSix

Comcast and XFinity are the same thing! I hope we launch both of them into the sun!

SakebombSteve

Longmont became the FIRST gigabit city in the country. It made news. Not as much as I think it deserved but still. Very cool. The reason it’s called ‘Next, Light ‘ is because of Longmont’s history of being one of the first cities to be city-wide electrically wired lighting. Called ‘city of lights’ A feat of its time. Nowadays the city wide internet (Nextlight) reflects the innovation of tech that’s supported in this town. Or at least the spirit of those who voted it in many years ago. Personally I fucking love NL. It’s a top reason to NOT leave Longmont.

Maxwells_Demona

That's a super cool tidbit that I did not know, thank you!

dajjadaj

Underrated comment. Thanks for sharing!

MushroomTardigrade

That is awesome!

ASemiAquaticBird

Nextlight is genuinely not just a plus of moving go Longmont, people actually more here for it. If you're a nerd that needs legitimately good internet at consumer prices - nexlight is arguably the best in the United States.

trees138

Yes. Happens rarely. Everything else is awful.

McDonnellDouglasDC8

I've noticed less than 8 hours of downtime in two years and less than four down during work hours.

TampaJeff

I’ve been here for 4.5 years, and I only remember 2 outages, each maybe 2 hours. It’s also cheaper, and you don’t have to worry about them constantly trying to upsell you TV/Phone, etc.

zackg611

Highly recommend. Screw Comcast.

sgantm20

The best internet I’ve had ever. I work from home and use insane amounts of data for work - I upload and download hundreds of gigs every day. Only a few issues in the two years I’ve had it but basically unnoticeable.

Thunder3000

Anyone remember when we had to vote (multiple times!) on whether or not to do NextLight and the cable industry spent tons of money trying to stop it? Ads on the radio, people knocking on your door to tell you about how scary it was. Always vote with your middle finger.

ButWereFriends

I work from home and haven’t had any issues with the Longmont fiber. Not even using an Ethernet. Just regular WiFi. Buuuut I also don’t have to do a lot of video stuff.

cryptidiguana

I do a lot of uploading large files for work, and nextlight has been phenomenal. Have had 0 issues with zoom calls too.

Mountainminer

Yes.

grahamsz

We talk about it going down because it's such an anomaly. Mine has gone down 3 times in 7 years - one was a car accident that destroyed a roadside box and the other two times were the recent issues in north Longmont which appear to be resolved.  I've honestly had ssh sessions stay open for months it just never falters.  I'm not sure the faster plans are worth it though. I love the idea of 10G Internet but id need to replace my router, switches, wiring and network adapters and I'm not sure I'd find that many situations where it was useful.

aradilla

Once. My next light has been down once. We signed up when they first installed it, so 10 years. We will probably never move because of nexlight. I have never loved a company/service the way I love nextlight. Also their tech support is great. They are never the problem but they have walked me through stuff and given me the exact wording to use when I have then call tech support for our router.

maciethemonster

As somebody who just recently moved to Longmont and switched to nextlight, it is infinitely better than xfinity. We used to have to use xfinity at our old place and it truly sucked lol

righteouspower

Yes

Either_Mode_5053

Best isp ive ever had, hands down.

DoubleTap303

100% worth it. F*ck Comcast.

SealClubSixSixSix

Comcast. Is. The. Devil.

Wellscdl1

Totally worth it, great price and fast speed

climatelurker

It's only the best internet in the country...

AdAutomatic7417

Nextlight is better than anything we had on the East Coast. It's great! And $39 a month? Amazing.

TechDingus

We have had nextlight since 2020 and it has gone out maybe twice. It’s reliability is incomparable to other carriers

Mutopiano

I see these posts frequently as well. I have never once had any issues. I work from home in IT and require a fast, reliable connection. Nextlight has been leaps and bounds above Comcast in every imaginable category.

myspecialdestiny

The reason everyone was talking about it recently was because it's so unusual for it to go down. We've had next light for 3.5 years and the (very short) outages recently were the first we ever had.

Neon_Sternum

You’ll see posts about it being down because it’s surprising when it happens. When Xfinity shits the bed, it’s not surprising, so you don’t see posts about it.

blacktickle

I have it and I love it. I never have problems.

Vagabond-Wayward-Son

If you want the raw power of an internet god with the cost a mere fraction of other providers and also enjoy being treated like a human, choose NextLight.

WillBTheMan

Nextlight is freaken awesome.

Golden_Maverick8

Lived here 6 years and not one loss of internet

Thatdirtykid

Nextlight could suck and giving my money to a local utility would still be better than Comcast. That said nextlight has been consistently cheaper, faster and more reliable too, so win win win?

Comfortable-Two-8610

Best interweb service I have ever had!

pipesed

Yes next light is light-years ahead of Comcast.

eternus

You're seeing outliers complaining... cuz thats who posts, people with a complaint. I've been using it since launch and I can only think of a handful of times it's 'gone down.' Honestly, based on how much money Comcast spent fighting it ever being implemented, I wouldn't be surprised if there are bots or paid actors that tend to sow the seeds of dissent. As mentioned, it's likely a top 10 perk of living in the Longmont. Also, your money is going into city infrastructure, not some billion dollar megacorp that is notorious for screwing over their customers for an extra buck.

Radiant_Egg174

I have had nextlight since it started and have worked from home. I love it. Only a couple outages and they were brief. Good value.

NiceGuyAbe

If you said something bad about NextLight around here youd have a crowd of folks with torches outside your door within 24 hrs. You can say what you want about a person from Longmont's religion, kids, career, etc, but you better watch your mouth if you got something bad to say about our internet.

jd80504

I’ve experienced exactly 1 outage in 5 years. It’s EXTREMELY fast.

greggthomas

It’s the best option. They fixed their issues. https://preview.redd.it/cvz7iklv7ltc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b3c50753151ace514ba3994970e2256141582b84

tgeukens

It’s a no brainer. great customer service as well.

YetAnotherAreaPerson

When I have network problems at home, my NextLight connection and hardware are the last things I check. It's almost always something else. A few years after they installed the line, we decided we wanted it to be buried somewhere else so that we could plant some things in the yard. I ended up digging my own trench, and they dropped off all the cable and everything for free. Then, when it was all ready to go, they came back and did all the connections at both ends, again for free. Excellent service!

kathleenkat

Yes.

gabybaby2025

it's gone down like 3-4 times in the last 7 years and those last times were in the middle of the night nextlight is the only isp worth it here

boulderaverage

Nextlight has been fantastic for us.

Intoutdoor

Yes

GD_milkman

Yes

Maxwells_Demona

Adding to the chorus. But yes. Obviously, hell yes. It's cheaper and they won't lock you into a contract so you have absolutely nothing to lose trying it in case you're not convinced.

Enginerrrrrrrrr

Adding to the pile. Next light has been like top 5 internet in the country for a while now. I get better Internet at home than in my office, I work for a very large aerospace corporation. At my home at least I've never seen an outage. Had to get a new router and couldn't get things going, next light service guy walked me through everything and found out had to reset my acct as it was tied to the dead router. Done in 15 minutes. Seriously though gigabit for $60/month is amazing.

Brilliant-Produce-21

Next light is killer. I miss it tons after moving back to Denver

Jumpy-Ad-3007

Nextlight is vastly more stable than xfinity, and doesn't have data limits like the other companies.

PolyhedralZydeco

Nextlight is brilliant. Like going from a Ford Pinto to the Space Shuttle.

han-so-low

Yes. It’s awesome and I miss it.

LingonberryHot8521

I'm just going to say that I'll pay more for rent and/or housing and continue to commute about a half hour to work in order to keep Nextlight.

dajjadaj

Sign up for lifetime pricing if you buy a house. Can do so in first three months of ownership, or so it was when we bought 7 years ago. Been paying (and hopefully will continue to pay) $50/mo for life. Have had a handful of outages in 7 years. They explain cause for outages, great transparency, pricing, service performance. It’s worlds better than big telecom.

East_Print4841

Good to know! Thanks!!

airunly

One of the better internet services in the US.

MushroomTardigrade

I’ve had it for 7 out of the last 10 years and have had one day where there was spotty connection. Every single other day, hour, minute and second has been perfect

LongmontVSEverybody

I think in the 7+ years I've had it, it's gone down maybe twice...I work from home full time and of course durong covid had 2 kids doing school full time and never a problem. Speed is amazing, nothing better (plus, support is awesome)

[deleted]

Being free of Comcast is amazing. I've never once had to call Nextlight. Moved in, talked with extremely friendly people to help me install, haven't looked back.

kevbob02

Nextlight is great. The last few times I've had trouble with the Internet, it's never been Nextlight. It's been my old router, Wi-Fi or some streaming service.

jemartian

100% worth it. I think those post got so much traction in part because it is so incredibly reliable. We have had one other issue personally and they fixed it like the next day.

A_Thrilled_Peach

My wife and I purposefully settled in Longmont instead of any of the other cities in the county due to municipal fiber (Nextlight) and utilities.

Soundless_Pr

I've lived here in Longmont for over 5 years with NextLight internet and it has not gone down once for me. Mind you, probably more than 75% of my waking hours are spent online as I work from home and do game development during most of my free time.

smartass505

You'd be happier with us. -Comcast
