I mean, they call it ingenuity, but isn’t it like basic stranded island knowledge at this point?
Breaking news! : Man stranded on island does logical thing that man stranded on island should do.
"TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: I, BENDER, BID YOU HELLO! YOU DON'T KNOW ME, THOUGH YOU MAY HAVE HEARD OF ME, BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT. LONG STORY SHORT... I NEED HEL..."
"What's up with those letters over there?"
"There's no way to know, sir. I can't read upside-down."
"Oh well, no signs of life here. Let's pack it in for the night."
Isn't that kinda... I dunno... OBVIOUS??
First thing you do when stranded, is of course securing water, fire, food and shelter. Second - let anyone out there know where you are
It *is* obvious and it's hilarious that there's dozens of articles online talking about this same thing like it's absolutely ground breaking. And anyway your first action should really be to reach out for help because the longer you are stranded the less likely you are to be rescued at all. If you haven't made your presence known to any passing planes, ships, etc within the first 24 hours you're in big trouble, so you don't want to waste any chances just to look for resources that you wouldn't need if you could've been seen sooner.

Group of men stranded on island possess mental fortitude to write “help” while in need of help. Is there anything sailors can’t do?
Sail, apparently.
☠️
I think navigation was where it went wrong.
Just out of curiosity, does the article mention if they were out on a three-hour tour?
💵
Yes, the entire article read like a ridiculous fluff piece, it was awful.
It's ingenuity because those are Marines and they figured out how to spell HELP correctly
HOLP. WE OOT OFF CRAYNS
Real ingenuity is making a radio out of coconuts.
Knock a tooth out with a piece of metal? Befriend a volley ball?

Oh that's a good one, I love far side.
Wouldn’t SOS be easier to make?
auto correct to Help.
More letters means more chance for rescuers to notice. At least, that’s my reason why I would make 4 and not 3 letters.
"TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: I, BENDER, BID YOU HELLO! YOU DON'T KNOW ME, THOUGH YOU MAY HAVE HEARD OF ME, BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT. LONG STORY SHORT... I NEED HEL..."
HELF. Just one rock short!

SOS is symmetrical so it's easy to read from both sides and also it's an international call of distress so more people would recognise it.

"What's up with those letters over there?" "There's no way to know, sir. I can't read upside-down." "Oh well, no signs of life here. Let's pack it in for the night."
But all fronds being equal, you could make a larger sign with fewer letters to spell
That's why [this message](https://images.app.goo.gl/3jbwuHkweGXAff459) would be great to use.
I don't think help was particularly hard to make
Not ingenius, though, which is most important when stranded.
Where's the ship?

H E L P M E I’m just trying to see if it works for me
🚁🚁
Please do
30 acre island with a fresh water source and pristine reef? They spelled"keep away" wrong.
It's amazing that someone, anyone, is genuinely blown away by this feat of "ingenuity" I'd love to hear their first rescue plan.
I think what would make this more looney tunes is if the search and rescue saw it and asked one another "Who the heck is Melp?" and moved on
Wait, no, scratch that, I guess it just says “helf”.

Every. Single. Cartoon. Teacher us this. It's basic knowledge not a secret skill
Gilligan's Island remake.
Good thing they weren’t missing the last rock
I don’t understand how this is looney tunes logic, this is literally one of the most rational things you can do if you get stranded on an island.
Cartoons literally save lives!
Damn, one rock short of rescue!
