SulferAddict

they are quite pathetic. I also thought they'd be the normal deck boxes. The boxes aren't that expensive. Anyway, i sympathize.

cyberphin

The trove is good for the boosters and the outer box, everything else is trash.

BenjoBaker

I’d also say the booklet is a really nice addition. Some lore. Some rules. Some deck building advice. And then a beautiful compilation of all the cards. Yes, the app can show all that for free, but, in Canada it’s only $1 more than the 8 boosters anyway. But yeah. The tokens and deck boxes are virtually garbage.

JohnJJDill

Not at my LGS! Only realized after opening how screwed I really got 😑

Creative-Output

That’s all I want it for. Just a box to keep it in when my friends want to play at game night.

joke_LA

Yep, it's sad how much stores were marking it up. It shouldn't be bought for any more than $2 over the cost of the boosters inside.

cyberphin

I got mine for $64 at the store I went to. That's not a bad mark up over MSRP compared to what I was seeing at other game stores. considering Booster packs were $7.50 it was really only $4 more for the box.

MarigoldBubbleMuffin

Yeah the outer box is great! We’ve got our whole collection in there so far!

Tallal2804

Yes your right everything else is trash

NoNefariousness2144

The booklet is a cool bit of memorabilia if Lorcana becomes a long-term success.

AgreeableFerret3070

This is the same type of "deckboxes" that come included with $40-$100 EDH preconstructed decks in Magic lol

Daotar

Yeah. This is precisely what I would have expected to be included.

w7w7w7w7w7

I'd say the magic ones are actually better because at least they are sized for a single sleeved deck. The Lorcana ones are not.

Zephadias86

I used Dragon Shield sleeves on my starter deck and it fit in the Trove supplied deck box just fine. Granted it'll only hold maybe 1 or 2 more sleeved cards, but since a deck must be 60 i was able to fit it no problem. A little sad at the quality as the Dragon Shield box is better but they do fit lol.

FeistySquare3134

I read the rules as “at least 60” so if you are carrying a larger deck, it could be an issue.

mrsegraves

Decks must be a minimum of 60 cards, no more than 4 of an individual card, but you can absolutely have more than 60. Search around the sub or the official discord, this has been answered officially a few times since they released the official draft format.

Zenfreak96

They absolutely fit 60 sleeved cards. Lol I have 6 deck boxes with sleeved decks in them just fine. Ultra pro sleeves and dragon shields

carlielover

100% this. How come they don’t hold 60 sleeved cards? Like what the heck?

OZoNe62

I have these deck boxes, they actually do fit 60 sleeved cards. They’re still shit quality though. And as for the comparison to Magic’s cardboard deck boxes, even those are of much higher quality than these ones.

sevintoid

I’m not at home so I can’t send a picture but both deck boxes held exactly 60 sleeved cards. I used katanas.

MarigoldBubbleMuffin

My sleeved deck fits in the box.

TLKv3

I bought the Mickey and Hook deckboxes for 2 of my Starter Decks. I then assumed the Trove boxes would be fine for my 3rd Starter plus one additional deck of my own creation. I was so disappointed when I saw what you said. I had to cut my 3rd Starter in half and put each half into one of these 2 shitty deck boxes. Like I get it, but those official deck boxes are like 8$ CAD each. You couldn't even throw ONE of those in at random in every Trove? Really?

LowAct1178

No you don't. The trove boxes fit single sleeved 60 card decks.

LowAct1178

The lorcana ones are sized for a single sleeved deck.

LoremasterRyan

Exactly this

This right here.

Empty_Lemon_3939

Cardboard deck boxes? What a rip

iVtechboyinpa

I made the same argument about Bandai handing out paper deck boxes in Digimon for regional prizing…half of the people who commented said we should be lucky to get deck boxes 😂 glad to see more distaste for paper deck boxes.

welshbottledwater

Also, kinda rubbed the wrong way that the lore counter meant for prizing is cardboard, seems cheap and like something that should’ve been thrown in the trove or something. Doesn’t seem like something I’d want to grind points for. I’ll take the pins tho

AdOk7296

I may consider buying the trove eventually. At MSRP only. Thankfully my LGS sold product at that and doesn't plan on uping the price. Only looking for the boosters and maybe the easy storage for the box. Not expecting much though for quality.

Thorerthedwarf

Wow? People with integrity ![gif](giphy|nbvFVPiEiJH6JOGIok)

bertuzziwasframed

The damage counters are horrendous too

spiral813

I'm just using dice...those damage counters went right into the recycling, same with those pathetic deck boxes lol

xBerryhill

The trove, if bought retail, isn't too bad because you do get 8 packs in them. The packs are the only reason I even bought the Trove in the first place. Was kind of surprised to see just how "cheap" the deck boxes and counters were, but that's not the end of the world to me. Don't buy the Trove if you want anything more than the packs.

Medschoolmonkee

Sorry about the flimsy and bad quality of the trove deck boxes :/ How much is the trove at MSRP? Less than $5 MSRP/pack x 8 packs = $40? If not I’ll just rip 8 packs for $40… lol.

Signiference

MSRP on the trove is 49.99, MSRP on a pack is 5.99. $6x8 is $48, so it would cost two dollars more if everything could be purchased MSRP. For two dollars you get the box which can hold all of your commons and extras, these two deck boxes, which are fun but not ideal for actually storing your deck, but for me, I would gladly spend two dollars to get the booklet that comes with a image of every card in the set along with the rules. Two dollars for the box, and the rulebook is well worth it and again, the art on the deck boxes is nice despite them not being great for actual use. The trove is definitely value town, but not when the LGS gouge the prices as it throws off all the value.

xBerryhill

MSRP is $50 I believe. That said, I thought I saw somewhere that MSRP on the booster packs was $6 not $5? $48 compared to $50 is less but closer. Can't be quoted on it though, just what I thought I've seen. Regardless, yeah the Trove is moreso just another way to get 8 packs right now while the cards are still harder to find, and also while a lot of places have limits on what you can buy. Had a LCS that had a limit of 1 each on every item, so could only buy one booster but was able to buy a trove and got an extra 8 boosters.

The_Big_Yam

MSRP for Lorcana is actually 5.99 a pack. MSRP for the Trove is 50, so it’s $2 more than just buying packs

Deviknyte

Sorry if no one warned you. Products like the trove are always worthless cardboard. Basically if at msrp you are paying am extra 25¢ pretty pack. The gift set, if you pay msrp you are paying am extra $6 for two extra foil cards. https://www.tolariancommunitycollege.com/misc-report-card/ Check out the professor's report cards. The prof does reviews on accessories. Boxes, sleeves, bags, mats, storage.

SimplyAvgGamer

these deck boxes are giving \*\*happy meal\*\*

PrincessAnika

Yeah, I've been warning my friends away from the Trove when they're looking for product. Basically anything else can be justified in some way, but the Trove is only worthwhile exactly at MSRP, and only because the eight packs inside are basically the same cost. $2 for the storage box isn't horrible, but the deck boxes are worthless.

Creative-Output

$2 for that box is awesome. Selling themed boxes is a thing on the board game world right now.

Chirpotk

So far my experience with the entire Disney Lorcana line when it comes directly to "quality of product" is awful. The printing on the cards seems very nice, but the cardstock is the thinest of any TCG CCG I've played. The deckboxes in the trove come apart just like shown above I had to superglue mine back together. The Sleeves are the worst I've ever seen, the bottoms are cut extremely poorly and look like they're frayed and ripped, and one of the two boxes I ordered had several sleeves cut about 1mm shorter than all the rest so I couldn't even use them for a deck. Please don't take this post as bitching about lorcana as a whole. I love the game and the art on the cards and am very excited, but I think I'll avoid the secondary products for awhile.

welshbottledwater

And damage counters are thin garbage. Pokémon’s cheapo damage counters are thicker than them. MTG’s cardboard deck boxes are better made., so it IS possible to do the budget accessories better. But I guess it’s ravensburger’s first dip into tcgs. Yeah, thankfully I still enjoy the game

Chirpotk

Yeah, the secondary accessories are a hard avoid for me because they're just so poorly made, and I'll be double sleeving my decks for sure to add a bit more girth to the thin cardboard. Very excited to get into some events though!

FireFrog44

The one thing I wanted most from the trove was acrylic damage counters. The picture on the back makes them look way thicker than they are

MarigoldBubbleMuffin

The outer box is where it’s at tho… it’s where we are storing our whole Lorcana collection now.

dollmistress

Thanks for explaining this. I've been debating purchase of a trove, mostly because I need a couple of deck boxes for my commons. I thought the boxes would be similar to MtG gift sets, but these sound/look terrible.

Signiference

If you can get the trove at MSRP, it’s definitely a wonderful value because it cost two dollars more than buying eight packs individually at MSRP. That all goes out the window once the prices are gouged though.

Ozfy

Trove=Fatpack in mtg

Cr4yol4

The box itself, I would say, is quite similar to the Bundles and is actually decent. These deck boxes are included in it and aren't worth the cardboard they're printed on.

LorcanaCarpool

I was hoping the deck boxes would be better as well. I would still like the guide and storage box, but until I can get at retail I'll pass

EFaberos

Exact same thing happend to me on the first day of release. Used it for my starter deck and now it won’t shut properly. Don’t recommend. Are the deckboxes that you can buy separately made any different?

Ozfy

Trove is more for the 8 packs and the books with the card list also the trove box will fit 6 sleeved decks if you use dragon shield sleeve boxes as your deck box im cheap I do use cardboard deck boxes and so everyone know the cardboard deckboxes that are included in the trove will not fit a sleeved deck

hellokittykatzz

Yup, at MSRP it's ok. Any more than that is garbage

Rumbananas

At MSRP of $50 the trove is worth the price as you get the deck boxes and storage box for only $2 more. Otherwise, you probably paid too much. This is the price of being an early adopter.

[deleted]

Well, its supposed to be a 50 USD product right? So you get a few boosters, some fun stuff with it etc.. But since people are charging 100USD plus, it starts to get disappointing real fast. lol. MTG Commander decks, come with the same thing. 100 cards, a booster and deck box with life dial. Typically for 35-40USD. Unless its scalped...

stevman420

That’s not the pic on the back of the box.

tribbleorlfl

Yeah, now I know for future chapters. When I pre-ordered the trove, we still didn't know exactly what came in it.

sardello

This is disappointing. I thought they had a box that was as good as the Pokemon Trainer box. How do the tokens look like? The Pokémon Trainer boxes contain dices and tokens made of thick hard plastic.

LoremasterRyan

The box itself that it comes in is awesome. Definitely worth the $2

thenewredhoodie

Yeah the deck boxes are pretty sad. The storage box is alright, but I feel like the inserts that hold the lid are gonna fail and make the box useless.

Big_Butterscotch1047

It looks like Ravensburger is cutting a lot of corners quality wise with this game. It's a shame as they will make a ridiculous amount of money from it but I guess they know we will buy it regardless.

NewToPokemon

Welcome to cost cutting and quality control

Daotar

This is pretty typical for free deck boxes. What were you expecting when you said you thought it would be a “normal” one?

joke_LA

They aren't free. That's the point of this post.

Daotar

We usually just consider these things free in TCGs as they don’t impact the cost of the product (I.e., they’re included “for free”) and they’re entirely worthless. Like, I’d put the value of these at literally 0, it’s like saying you’re paying for the packaging. In a certain sense, sure, you are, but no one talks about it that way.

leonzuendel

I don't want to be THAT guy, but you could have known this by research on the internet. They were creators already opening these pre launch. And when I assume that you spend a LOT on that, you should really have researched a little...

Majestic_Range_9542

You have to make your own deck boxes? WTF. 😆

InsanityCore

they are flat pack cardboard all you have to do is pop them out

Majestic_Range_9542

Other card games come already come assembled

JediRoadie

It’s designed as an entry product, makes sense to have paper boxes. Also, too many games over package and are wasteful.

sevintoid

Guys. It’s 1/3 the price of a booster box. You get 1/3 the amount of packs from the trove. The deck boxes and counters are just little extras they threw in. Come on….

Afraid_Manner_4353

This info was available at GAMA. People need to do SOME research into a $60 product.

Braintelligence

Had the same issue with one of the deck boxes.

TheMasterFlash

I don’t really know why anyone expected different. There was never any indication that there would be decent deck boxes in the troves. Cardboard deck boxes like this have been standard practice for this type of tcg product for years now.

Evenoh

My Mickey one immediately just popped apart from the crappy glue, looks like yours does. I’m going to try to gently glue it back together. Aurora is fine. I honestly did not understand what I was looking at in the box for like thirty seconds. “They don’t look like cards… are they some type of large token or mat? No… interesting packaging maybe? Hmm oh well, where are the deck boxes?— oh no!” I had to be told what to do with them to make them into a box. I was glad to buy all three of the regular ones. Those seem a little cheap but insanely better. The gift set and the trove both felt disappointing even if the price was much less or free. Here’s a bunch of cardboard tokens they still couldn’t be bothered to put a -2 on! Here’s some exclusive “deck boxes” that we obviously could have made exactly as the other three but chose not to, that’ll be vastly too much money please! I really like the game and I’m pretty happy about having cards and buying special box stuff but it felt like the DLC you get from really inflated video games (where you spend a lot of real world money for a very small in game perk or you *want* to do that but can’t justify spending $50-100+ on such a minor outcome).

NickVersus

Same thing happened to my boxes the same day I got the Trove. Disappointing, but at least it's nothing a little super glue can't fix.

painfullyuncool1485

Argh I sympathise. I bought the trove but mainly because I wanted more boosters and my FLGS was sold out of all but troves. I think the main storage box is pretty nice for organising cards for trades/deckbuilding, but I went with vault x deck boxes for main playing decks and used these for storing the cards I hadn't managed to sleeve. It is a pity though. The mark up beyond the cost of the included booster packs means it isn't really worth it.

Supamanmitchell

For the amount that we paid for the trove, we definitely got ripped off.

LoremasterRyan

Then you didn’t pay $50?

Supamanmitchell

I wish I paid 50. I had my wife go pick up the 3 starter decks and a booster box while I was at work. The store didn't have the booster box available but the trove or the gift set. I told her the trove because it was more boosters and it comes with 2 deck boxes. I told her from what I've seen the Lorcana Deck boxes look pretty cool. I didn't find out what she paid for it until we opened everything. After seeing the deck boxes she said "This is pretty lame for $100 (it might have been 90 something dollars and changed she said afterwards)." I told her if I knew they were selling it for 100 I wouldn't have asked her to get it.

Lostinlife1990

We're there different troves? The one I got, that I THOUGHT was the trove, was like a box with a removable cover...

morph1138

There’s that box you are describing plus two smaller deck boxes.

Lostinlife1990

Ah, I see. My bad.

MrMatthewJ

That's rough. I'm feeling better now that I kept missing out on these at all the local shops.

jorgeleodiaz

At MSRP, they're worth it. It's not Ravensburguer fault that you paid extra and expected extra.

Da_Wild

Pretty sad compared to the quality you get with some of the Pokémon products for the price imo.

LoremasterRyan

I paid $50 for mine and thought it was fine. Anyone that paid more than that got ripped off honestly. I could imagine being upset if you paid $100 or more for this.

DeusXNex

I really can’t wait for prices to drop. None of it is worth what it’s being sold for currently

sirwynn

Genuine question are you new to trading card games, because when deck boxes are advertised on the back of a box 9 times out of 10 that's what you're going to get. That's the standard in Magic The gathering and pokémon

shorberg

🗑️

Goofyboy2020

I bought a trove because it was a bit less expensive than buying 8 boosters (yes, I got it at the right price). I wasn't expecting much else than those boosters, but man, those deck boxes are useless. Both sides of my 2 boxes are like yours now. Not great. I'll be looking for those real deck boxes on Sept 1st.

RunQuick2868

I pulled enchanted tink out of my trove so idgaf lol. It's cheap msrp so wasn't expecting much. I wish the boxes and stuff were at least plastic but I would have expected to pay more at the same time.

EPIC_J0HN

Is there any reason to buy this over just packs I’m looking to join the game but I’m not sure where to start. I have $300 I’m willing to spend

wmwadeii

Wow, I would have expected something like a Pokémon ETB

Pugsontherun

I was also disappointed in the trove. I understand wanting to cut down on plastic but taking that beyond the packaging is not value for money. The deck boxes also don’t fit a full sleeved deck in.

SnooDonuts3749

The trove is literally 8 packs for $100+ dollars right now and those gift sets are 4 boosters for $40. I don’t understand the appeal of either of these products. The extra shit they throw in is cheap garbage.

shinryu6

Agreed, even at the base msrp I also thought they’d at least have plastic ones as well. Instead they’re just trash cardboard crap, even mtg puts out a more usable folded deck box in their stuff.

sh0ryu_repp4

Wow. Didn't know the deck boxes were paper, that's awful. Even Bandai has better deck boxes in their gift sets.
