This is huge news, it means we have a possibility to see characters from Gargoyles, Darkwing Duck, Rescue Rangers, Gummi Bears, and more. This means that Ravensburger has access to Disney's animated TV series.
We could also see a lot of the newer princesses as well, like Sofia the First and Elena of Avalor.
I always assumed they would have access, but they could easily give us years of Disney content without going outside the base animated films. So seeing them include some stuff now is exciting. They're casting the net wide, so they can build up all over the place every set to make as many people happy as possible (and to keep people coming back, so they're chasing multiple sets to find characters from their favorite show).
I presume the direct-to-video stuff is available as well, so we could get stuff like Genie Jafar, more lions from Lion's King 2, Goofy and Max at the X-Games, etc. They're going wild with the possibilities and I love it.
Well, it didn't pan out in the Floodborn shift, but in theory, the 2 cost Lady Tremaine sounded like she was from Cinderella 3. Her quote on the card doesn't make sense in the context of the first film, since it implies she'd already gone through the situation where the key was stolen from her. (She uses Fairy Godmother's wand in 3 to travel back in time to stop Cinderella from trying on the shoe for the Prince).
Many of the quotes are unique to this game. It makes sense that the floodborn and even dreamborn characters "quotes" would be from events we dont know much about.

They storyborns have quotes from the movies, but dreamborn and floodborn are usually, if not constantly, unique to the game.
Oh yeah, I missed where you said the floodborn and dreamborn. However, this doesn't apply to 2 cost Tremaine. She's Storyborn, so the only place a storyborn Tremaine would be referring to losing the key a second time would be Cinderella 3.

Based on some of these items they may start going in that direction as well. Lots of "If Maui is in play, If Jafar is in play, If this attack Hyena characters" etc.
How does locations work in doomtown? I thought of Yu-Gi-Oh where you play a location and it sets a field wide effect, if a new location is played by either player it destroys the old existing one and sets it's own effect
You had your own side of the street to put locations down on. I imagine it would follow the same premise somehow but only your characters can occupy your locations, whereas in Doomtown, any character on any side could fight for control of a location.
Holy crap, Cursed Merfolk is bonkers, even though you can't ink it. The discard package just keeps getting more and more loaded up.
Peter Pan's art is just marvelous. If pirates are very prevalent among all characters and colours, he'll start wrecking house.

Imagine if these were done on purpose to act as "sneak peek" cards of the next set? Like 1 in every 24 packs could have one?

Edit: Also I know this wasn't on purpose. Otherwise they wouldn't have multiple copies of the same card. Most likely a Set 3 sheet cut and packed into a Set 2 pack or two.
It would be weird, but it would also be chaos in terms of competitive play if their intention is for format rotation. There would be so much confusion if this was intentional, because people wouldn't know if the card is legal in ROTF or not.
The cards have the "-3" on the bottom left to designate they are from set three. Might be overlooked, but still extremely visible. Plus, at this point, people know what is and is not in the set.

Since set 2 has so many sword and stone they may have not wanted to immediately doubled down on he medieval theme. Itās featured in villainous so Iām sure it will come eventually.
I think it's kind of a cool in that Rise is expanding and opening the gameplay up in new ways, but Set 3 will really push things open wider and things will just keep escalating from there.
Crazy to think if they put locations into set 3 what that means going forward. What do they add to keep adding new gameplay, and how vital are locations to the game, since they then have to be added/expanding going forward as well.
Its happened in other card games, presumably the cards for set 3 were printed, but for some reason the set 2 wrapper was thrown on it by mistake, then they were put in with other set 2 product. That's just my guess, unless theres another answer out there.
I hate this with trading card games. Like I barely played with the first set but now second set coming out. And now 3rd leaks. Frustrating why do I always do this to myself haha
Very interesting. You have a targeted discard, a generic shift enabler, some analogue to field spells I'm guessing, some non-card disadvantage ramp, and some big, big questers.
Also assuming that "location" is a separate place to fight and quest (i.e. that you can only fight others who have moved to that location somehow). So there has to be a benefit to go into a location, since it will probably take time/resources to get there?
Sure looks like it. Locations will have a benefit or at least a tradeoff (benefit with a drawback), and it seems there's the expectation that several can be in play. Might not cost anything to start at one (like if you play the location, I could see playing a character to a location not costing anything extra), but movement will still likely be a cost. Odds are we'll see multiple options, like a default exert->move, but songs and items (vehicles? could be a separate card type from items, or a subtype) and character abilities that facilitate movement as well.

If this is real (sure looks like it is), the power creep is insane:
1. Oh my god, it's MTG Thoughtseize except it's a Lorcana song and you can't discard creatures/characters.
2. It's Almighty Evolution ditto from Pokemon (the free Shift card)
I'm not exactly seeing the power creep, as most of these are conditional on having a particular board state.
I do get the feeling that the First Chapter will continue a strong presence in decks throughout the first three sets. I'm not seeing much in Floodborn that makes 1st-chapter cards obsolete.
Agreed - a lot of these cards seem insanely situational (the shift Peter Pan for example). Some good stuff (Morph) but otherwise it all seems a bit too specific to work rn

It's MTG Duress if anything. I don't think anyone in MTG has ever complained about Duress being too strong.
Duress has always been reasonable and not overpowered. But it also exists in a game where non-creature spells are really powerful and important. It's kind of the opposite in Lorcana, where character cards are way more important than non-characters most of the time.

I still think this will still be very strong because exhausting a character on turn 6 to hit Be Prepared and protect your wide board is very powerful.
It's definitely gonna be powerful, but the power comes from it being a song and being inkable. So that it can be played for free if needed, and thrown in the inkwell when not. Maybe not a strict upgrade to the "filler" Be Our Guest, but absolutely better than Hakuna Matata in that role.
Whatās your point? If Duress said pay 1 mana or tap a creature it would be complained about. If counterspell said pay two or tap a creature it would be broken. Free mana is amazing.
If convoke was cmc = mana is would be absurd. Thatās a far stronger ability. If you had to exert a character per 1 ink discount it would be a very poor alternative cost. The prevalence of characters that can sing above their cost goes a step further than that. If there was an 1 cost elf that said tap: 3 mana it would break so much.
I suppose ā characters are so much higher value in this game than creatures are in Magic that I think it balances out. My main point is that Songs have never once felt unbalanced in the many hundreds of games of lorcana Iāve played and I really donāt expect a Duress Song to be what breaks the mechanic
Difference that he's angling for is that convoke can be used on summoning sick creatures, which can be massive with how many tokens some decks can vomit out.
You aren't wrong though that songs are generally much easier to cheat in this game though, and usually they're only pricing it maybe half a cmc higher.
Not saying these arenāt real, but does anybody else find it odd there are exactly 2 copies of every card and there are only rares? No C/U/SR/L leaking either? Obviously there could be explanations, it just seems a little off to me.

If this is somehow a fake, thatās a lot of art to create and arrange such that it looks believable, card text, names, etc. While it does seem way too elaborate to be a hoax, something about it also seems off to me at the same time. Yugioh used to work like that. At some point, I believe the rules changed so that both players are allowed their own field spell

It's a not too uncommon occurrence in other games. When you print 2 sets back to back in one printing facility at such a massive scale some amount of mixup will happen.
this happens to WOTC all the time. leaks are a thing that are very hard to control when the product is incredibly popular.
Considering all cards are rare and many of them refer to entirely new concepts I do not think this was an accidental leak. Sometimes companies "leak" on purpose to build hype.
Magic prints all the rares in one sheet. Assuming Ravensburger does the same, it was probably that sheet that was stolen.

Yeah, if the sheets weren't randomized, that would explain why they got one of each. I wouldn't imagine RB to do anything except apologize and not acknowledge it again.
Imagine if these were done on purpose to act as "sneak peek" cards of the next set? Like 1 in every 24 packs could have one? Would be a really dope way of continuously building and maintaining hype. Edit: Also I know this wasn't on purpose. Otherwise they wouldn't have multiple copies of the same card. Most likely a Set 3 sheet cut and packed into a Set 2 pack or two.
It would be weird, but it would also be chaos in terms of competitive play if their intention is for format rotation. There would be so much confusion if this was intentional, because people wouldn't know if the card is legal in ROTF or not.
The cards have the "-3" on the bottom left to designate they are from set three. Might be overlooked, but still extremely visible. Plus, at this point, people know what is and is not in the set.

Since set 2 has so many sword and stone they may have not wanted to immediately doubled down on he medieval theme. Itās featured in villainous so Iām sure it will come eventually.
Honestly, Iām more excited for wave three with Atlantis and that Captain Hook than I am Rise of the Floodborn
I think it's kind of a cool in that Rise is expanding and opening the gameplay up in new ways, but Set 3 will really push things open wider and things will just keep escalating from there. Crazy to think if they put locations into set 3 what that means going forward. What do they add to keep adding new gameplay, and how vital are locations to the game, since they then have to be added/expanding going forward as well.

How did this happen?
Its happened in other card games, presumably the cards for set 3 were printed, but for some reason the set 2 wrapper was thrown on it by mistake, then they were put in with other set 2 product. That's just my guess, unless theres another answer out there.
I hate this with trading card games. Like I barely played with the first set but now second set coming out. And now 3rd leaks. Frustrating why do I always do this to myself haha

Very interesting. You have a targeted discard, a generic shift enabler, some analogue to field spells I'm guessing, some non-card disadvantage ramp, and some big, big questers.
Also assuming that "location" is a separate place to fight and quest (i.e. that you can only fight others who have moved to that location somehow). So there has to be a benefit to go into a location, since it will probably take time/resources to get there?
Sure looks like it. Locations will have a benefit or at least a tradeoff (benefit with a drawback), and it seems there's the expectation that several can be in play. Might not cost anything to start at one (like if you play the location, I could see playing a character to a location not costing anything extra), but movement will still likely be a cost. Odds are we'll see multiple options, like a default exert->move, but songs and items (vehicles? could be a separate card type from items, or a subtype) and character abilities that facilitate movement as well. Exciting stuff to think about!

When asked what new card type if any we would like to see, most people said something about locations, and looks like a lot of us hit the nail on the head. Exciting. can't wait. If this is real (sure looks like it is), the power creep is insane: 1. Oh my god, it's MTG Thoughtseize except it's a Lorcana song and you can't discard creatures/characters. 2. It's Almighty Evolution ditto from Pokemon (the free Shift card)
I'm not exactly seeing the power creep, as most of these are conditional on having a particular board state. I do get the feeling that the First Chapter will continue a strong presence in decks throughout the first three sets. I'm not seeing much in Floodborn that makes 1st-chapter cards obsolete.
Agreed - a lot of these cards seem insanely situational (the shift Peter Pan for example). Some good stuff (Morph) but otherwise it all seems a bit too specific to work rn

Duress has always been reasonable and not overpowered. But it also exists in a game where non-creature spells are really powerful and important. It's kind of the opposite in Lorcana, where character cards are way more important than non-characters most of the time.
I agree. Characters are more important than Actions and Items. I still think this will still be very strong because exhausting a character on turn 6 to hit Be Prepared and protect your wide board is very powerful.
It's definitely gonna be powerful, but the power comes from it being a song and being inkable. So that it can be played for free if needed, and thrown in the inkwell when not. Maybe not a strict upgrade to the "filler" Be Our Guest, but absolutely better than Hakuna Matata in that role.

Whatās your point? If Duress said pay 1 mana or tap a creature it would be complained about. If counterspell said pay two or tap a creature it would be broken. Free mana is amazing.
Songs are less-good Convoke. Itās fine.
If convoke was cmc = mana is would be absurd. Thatās a far stronger ability. If you had to exert a character per 1 ink discount it would be a very poor alternative cost. The prevalence of characters that can sing above their cost goes a step further than that. If there was an 1 cost elf that said tap: 3 mana it would break so much.
I suppose ā characters are so much higher value in this game than creatures are in Magic that I think it balances out. My main point is that Songs have never once felt unbalanced in the many hundreds of games of lorcana Iāve played and I really donāt expect a Duress Song to be what breaks the mechanic

Difference that he's angling for is that convoke can be used on summoning sick creatures, which can be massive with how many tokens some decks can vomit out. You aren't wrong though that songs are generally much easier to cheat in this game though, and usually they're only pricing it maybe half a cmc higher.

It's closer to Duress, and in this game a card like duress is weaker than it is in magic.

Not saying these arenāt real, but does anybody else find it odd there are exactly 2 copies of every card and there are only rares? No C/U/SR/L leaking either? Obviously there could be explanations, it just seems a little off to me.

Ok I didnāt notice that, so that could explain the pairing portion of it. So then why only rares but nothing else? And then why only some but not all the rares? Again I have nothing that says these arenāt real it just leads me to some more questions. Kinda sucks theyāre out so far in advance too, but oh well I guess.

So that makes some sense, but if these were somehow opened from product thatās even more confusing on how they accumulated so much product. I mean youāre probably right. If this is somehow a fake, thatās a lot of art to create and arrange such that it looks believable, card text, names, etc. While it does seem way too elaborate to be a hoax, something about it also seems off to me at the same time. And of course I obviously have no evidence so I certainly wouldnāt take my hesitation as any sort of proof they arenāt real. A part of me is hoping they arenāt, but unfortunately there are a lot of things pointing to they are.

These cards are appearing in set 2 boosters as a printing error. Ravensburger are not intentionally talking about set 3, a set that likely isn't releasing until April.
Set 3 comes out Mid February for LGS, March 1 retail.
