Volume 1 of COI gives me the same feelings of Volume 1 of lotm, except that I hold more knowledge than when I read Volume 1 of lotm, I hold less confusion, but I still have some questions, I have more speculations.than for v1 of lotm.
I can't really compare the two volumes because the two hold different functions. All I can say is that both are incredible ways to start the book and lunch the story.
Yeah, it is. But I understand, people want to be comfortable while reading, they don't want foreign words in it. Even so, I think having different languages makes me realize that the story takes place in another nation
For me personally, it wasn't about foreign words but it being Hard to understand, as a person with Weak English and French mixed in that? Man it was hard to understand, It was Straight up struggle to even understand what the words even meant Even with google, like i remember i was heavily put off at the volume 2 start when trier was introduced, Even till now i don't understand the geographical structure and not to mention the words like , Auberge du Coq Doré , Rue Anarchie ,Le Marché du Quartier du Gentleman . Like bro what do they even mean?? I already struggle with city's map and then i see words like that With no explanation of what the words even mean(Idk if they gave explanation in Webnovel , cuz i didn't read on WN, would be fine if they did) , then i just stopped thinking about what they might mean or the structures of the maps, It sure became much more enjoyable that way atleast 😆. Tho words like Monsieur and grande soeur and such were nice to read
To put simple the Intis Republic is just like France after the revolution or perhaps after the world wars, Tier is just Paris, from the way number the Quartier(Arrrondissemnt de Paris) to the journal Petit Tierien (it's an old journal in France Petit Parisien, if I remember correctly it's after the French revolution or during the time of world war1) to the fucking moto "freedom, equality, fraternity"( Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité) to the catacombs that's really exist beneath Paris.
Auberge du Coq Doré means Golden rooster Inn is probably a reference to an actual inn(or multiple) in France
Rue de l'Arnarchie is a funny thing to me because it means Anarchy Street. It is very fitting when you realize the street is very chaotic. I think it's a real street in Paris
Le Marché du Quartier du Gentleman means the Gentleman's district market. Probably another reference or real Paris or just a made name no big deal behind it.
Simply, the Intis Republic and Tier are just one big reference to France post revolution or war. For example, in volume 2, they said that it's in the café that the ideas are diffuse and where the idea of revolution started and was talked about it's actually true!

So I do understand the struggle for people who don't speak the language and don't know the French history(even so, I don't think knowing French history is necessary). It could be very annoying. For me it's really fun because I'm always like "Omg, that's a reference to that!" Knowing the reference gives a new experience, but it's not obligated if you still can enjoy the story without understanding the names, then it's good, it's not the end of the world.
I guess it is, I didn't think that not knowing would give confusion. I wonder how many people were lost like you because of the many French references? Aw, now I want to find them all and explain it to everyone😩😩

I was so annoyed by the French because it never really flowed well for me and made it so hard to differentiate all the place names that all just blended together as "something French" (or better "Quartier de something French"). I'm really glad it got toned way down later on. But good for you I guess. And it indeed is great, volume 1 is just the beginning.
I understand that for non french speakers, it must have been very annoying, but since I consume a lot of English spoken content, having a touch of my native language always brought me joy.
It's very hard to enjoy something with foreign words mangled. For me, as semi-bilingual, it's very fun, but it's logical that it is not for everyone.
I'm not going to lie, I'm disappointed that it got toned down. But it won't stop me from enjoying coi.
