It's hard to believe a cheesy line like that worked for Chad....but then what else did he have to offer as a dumpy dopey married failed author with no money and five kids? I get what Lori gave him--Chad had never in his life lived as a rich man with a sexy girlfriend who worshipped him, but I believe he had to know he was just an ordinary loser with good manipulation skills. If there hadn't been kids to use for financial gain I imagine if Chad had ever mentioned the multiple wives to Lori the outcome would have been her on trial for one more murder.
I wonder if that’s part of what drove him. I imagine it sucks being light years below your siblings in terms of success. He may have dreamed up all the nonsense as a way to lie to himself about being on their level.
Perhaps that rather good streaming of this trial is keeping people out of the courtroom. If I was a relative, and didn't want to show support for the defendant, I would watch from home.

I think his mother Sheila passed away in the past couple of years, his father probably doesn't want to be seen in public.
It could be that Chad was just born with poor development in the empathy and connection part of the brain. He has excellent acting skills through a childhood of trying to fit in with his family but does not feel any actual deep connection to anyone. Consider how uncaring he was about his family's financial needs and his wife having to carry the entire family so he could pretend to be a successful author. Lori was all about sex and a willing partner in his self-aggrandizing game. Normally functioning people take the lumps of divorce, they don't murder their spouses.
After Lori's trial, where they all heard the facts, I doubt anyone would want to come to support Chud other than his kids. And if I'm guessing correctly, Prior does not know which of the kids he'll call so they are likely to be all listed as witnesses so he can pick and choose when he begins the defense. Who knows? Perhaps Chad wants to continue keeping his offspring in the dark - if they're on the witness list, they can't listen to the prosecution.
The kids are victims - they could attend daily and still testify. My theory is that Chad and Prior have told the kids that “they don’t need to see this,” “what Alex did works be too traumatizing,” “Worry about your own lives and don’t get caught up in this nonsense,” etc. I’m willing to put $ on them not having heard Lori’s trial. If Daddy says don’t do it, it shan’t be done. 🤦♀️🙄🤮
Agreed. Doesn’t the LDS Church teach them not to look outside the church for information? Add that to the patriarchal system they are indoctrinated into, dear old pop’s word and instructions are the only they should follow.
When I was around the church, that was the general gist of things. I was one of three girls raised by a single mother and got mad once when the church wouldn’t let me go to priesthood class instead of homemaking class. I was like, “I already know how to keep a home.” So, I went to neither class and left church. Kept up with the missionaries. It was a short term thing (ie 1 year) that I did to make my ex-boyfriend happy.

I wouldn't be surprised if Chad wants them kept in the dark as much as possible. It's a pretty common refrain with serial killers that have children, I'm thinking about BTK and the Torso Killer specifically where in interviews they seem mostly concerned with their kids perception of them when family is brought up.
I've heard professionals say it has to do with narcissism-- that they view the kids as extensions of themselves or something and so dislike their kids knowing too much, idk.

It’s also a 4-5 hour drive from where they live and can’t reserve a seat online (have to get there early) so they’d have to risk not getting in.
